This Gym is included in the category of Gym.
This place is a scam. Don't ever go there or give them a dime. They will tell you, your membership has been cancelled and then send a collection agency after you.
This place is very cheap and has a good selection of equipment, but nothing, from the equipment to the lockers, is ever clean. For a massive gym they never have more than two sanitizer bottles, the paper towels are almost always missing, and no one that works out here ever wipes down anything. I actually got ring worm on the inside of my bicep shortly after using the preacher curl pad/bench this past week. Please just ask the staff that are working to wipe stuff down and encourage others to. The equipment is always dirty.

Extremely crowded during peak hours. Not enough machine to accommodate everyone. I cancelled my gym membership, got a confirmation, and it turns out they never cancelled it. Wow, They even sent my “debt” to a collecting agency. If you would like to avoid paying $500 for something you shouldn’t even have to pay then I suggest you look for a better gym else where.
Things to remember if you join this gym. Their financials are handled by ABC Financial. Just do a google search to find out about them. If you decided to cancel, they require a 30 day notice, so you will be charged one more time after you notify them. PLEASE, make sure when you do cancel, get some type of paperwork verifying they canceled your membership and have them sign it. Trust me, you'll save yourself the **** I had to go through. Two stars because the club itself isn't too bad and my heart is healthier b/c of their equipment.
Great staff, cool gym, low prices. Clean!!!
Considering how many members you have coming and going during different times in a day, I think it would just make sense for you guys to have a bigger parking space. It takes me about 10 minutes, on average, to get a space.
At first I was like this gym is to good to be true and then I began my workouts and it was then I relized that in an instant that I was home. The gym was not like other gyms I've been at before, this gym had every type of machine and then some more. There were plenty of isolated equipments to work every group of my muscles in plethora of machines and unlike other gyms, this gym had plenty of duplicates machines and it was always avilable. They also had push sled unlike mist gyms near by, which made it start and finish with a bang of cardio filled, breath taking, mental pushing, start and finish to a wonderfully crafted routine for my workouts.
Only $20 a month, hence cheapest gym in area that has weights. But their timings sucks along with the crowd that goes there. And poor maintenance e.g. equipment could use repair, no toilet paper in bathrooms, front desk does not pick up phone, or unattended etc.
They continued charging me for membership after cancellation, and I had to call my bank to charge-back and block them. Be warned that they have a "contract" that you'll never see when you sign up with terms like needing to cancel a month in advance that they'll superimpose your signature onto and send you in an email. Seems illegal, but they'll do it anyway. In my case they never even sent me this "contract," and management pretended not to understand this failure while they referred me to an owner who never responded for comment. I reported their refusal to cancel my membership to the Maryland Attorney General and BBB, but they still proceeded to harass me with automated collections calls for months without responding to the Attorney General's call for arbitration. At this point, they have stopped and are hopefully no longer trying to defraud my credit card, but I would recommend finding another gym unless you want to go through a lengthy cancellation dispute or have a lawyer on retainer if they have the gall to send you to collections.
This gym is great with an amazing atmosphere, the staff are always friendly and willing to help. lately the the improvements and attention to maintenance have been phenomenal. Last but not least the price for membership is incredibly low. I 10/10 would recommend this gym to anyone thinking about joining!
I've been a member since they originally opened. The maintenance and replacement of the equipment has suffered dramatically over the last couple of years. I am at the point where I hate to go because I usually have to try several different machines to find one that works and most of the TV's don't work or have been removed. Several of my favorite pieces of cardio equipment have broken and have never been replaced. Consumables like the paper towel dispenser in the ladies' bathroom is rarely filled. It is like they just don't care.
I am a type 2 diabetic. Retro helped me lose weight, increase fitness, and contributes to my overall control of the condition.
Great price! Love the music!
Had stopped working out for a year due to a surgery I had on my knee. After a while I was cleared by my doc to go back to the gym, and as soon as I did, the instructors at Retro gym were patient & really helpful to me. The staffers as well were very supportive. Glad I enrolled here.”
I have been going to this gym location for two years. The staff have been very friendly and helpful and know customers by name. The equipment is well maintained, especially now under the new ownership. They have a variety of equipment which continues to grow. Besides free weights and machines, they have balls, hand sliders, weight belts, bars, punching bags, ropes and a sled. They have a small movie theater with treadmills and stationary bikes. The personal trainer I work with there is really knowledgeable and creative about training exercises. Update: This gym hasn't had any billing issues since I joined. When I had an issue with my Trainer Contract, the management gave me several options that I could work with. This kind of professionalism is one of the reasons I continue to use this gym.
Great inexpensive gym. Tanning is only $5 extra a month, and they offer a stand up bed (and it is never busy). There are lots of cardio machines and I've never seen them all occupied even when busy. Speaking of busy, it never feels crowded even though there are always people there. It is pretty much the perfect balance so you don't feel completely alone but yet you're not waiting for any equipment. They have a set of kettle-bells which is a great addition to the free weights area. There could be a few more bench press machines since they are popular, but there really isn't anything I would want to get rid of in order to accommodate them. All of the cardio machines have TVs on them with something like 20 channels, and they all have iPad/iPhone/iPod hookups. The hookups don't work with the new port on the iPhone 5, but I'm sure this will all come in time. They have a couple of neat stationary bicycles that you actually play a game on the screen while you're riding them. Additionally, there is a cardio cinema room for those that like to watch a movie and run (in the dark!). I wish there was a set of still rings (like what you see in gymnastics) set up like you see at some gyms. The locker rooms are clean and you have plenty of room, and while there are showers there is no sauna/steam-room/whirlpool. However at the price you pay per month for membership ($19.99/month) you can't really expect those features. Great gym over all, rated excellent based on what it offers and its value. Really wish it was open later on Saturdays and Sundays, but during the week it is open until 11 (there are not a lot of gyms in this area open 24/7 from my experience!).
one og the best Retro Fitness I ever been, nice lot of space. .
Signed up today and later found out there shakes machines is out. What is this McDonald's?
Staff is amazing, price is great and it is extremely convenient to get in and out! Overall great!
There is no better value for the dollar. I have been a member since 2013, and the equipment is always well maintained, the locker room is always spotlessly clean, the staff is friendly, professional, and helpful, and the trainers are the best in the business.
This is a great place and very clean. Staff and customers are friendly.
I love this place wholeheartedly. Joined over a year ago. I'm a freshman at UMD, and all my boys go here during the summer. Everyone is friendly. You all need to join and refer me as a friend
Love it here!

Cant beat the price and the staff is great. They play movies in a theater like setting for those interested in extended cardio sessions. Perfect gym for $20 a month
Well equipped gym at affordable prices. Home to Courage Karate, best karate school in the area.
I really like this gym. I am a gym rate and have belonged to LA Fitness (really dirty and kind of expensive) and Fitness First (which is inexpensive but seemingly always overcrowded). This is a nice blend of both. Relatively clean. Never overcrowded. Friendly staff. The gym features a darkened theater with aerobic equipment that really makes running and lot less boring.
Great gym with many friendly trainers, staff and members! Would recommend to anyone looking at gyms in the area!
Great Price, Great Staff, Knowledgeable Trainers, Excellent Equipment, Functional Fitness as well as Strength Training, Friendly People, Not too Big and Not too Small Neighborhood Gym! 5 Star Rating
I joined a couple months ago, and for the past couple of months they have been out of the antibacterial wipes for wiping down the machines. I am about to find a new gym because this is a serious hygiene problem. No one cleans their machines because there are no wipes, and that is disgusting. I tried contacting management about this both in Facebook and their member experience form on their website, with no response.
I had two account with them n closed one, on April this yr , two times( may , jun ) that they charged me twice. So i called two , three times but , manager didnt call me back, i went there one of staff got on the computer n dont know why charged twice. Jun they put money back but it happened again , late jun they put money back , and July did it again. WTH!!! Today (08/01) early afternoon (like 12) i went there talked to manager, tell her why iam here and i told her if this problem is not solve i want to close the account. Basically i want her to takecare , but 1st she said we do not charge over n over , and she got on computer find the problem , did changed twice . even tho u closed account it will take two months to clear out(u have to watch out bank statement , and complete so u get money back). I asked her is this gonna keep happening , if it is then im gonna cancer the membership and she said "we put money back " " u can caner anytime" . Instead Apologize for inconvenience. I couldn't believe that shes a manager . She has bad attitude.
Everything is great at this gym now and I know that it's because of the new manger Larry . he's a great guy better than the old manger they had. Him and the employee jo together are the best . I use to go to Lanham and it wasn't the same as this one . great job keep up the good work
Quiet, no frills gym. Clean equipment and good upkeep.
Recommended for anyone in Garret Park, Rockville, or North Besthesda. Chill gym, but can get busy and small real quick. Great employees and trainers!!
Possibly the best gym in the whole DC metro area (in my opinion). I signed up when I lived in Grosvenor and worked out until my year ended. Now I live in DC and I'm coming back to RetroFitness to sign up again (DC gyms are too pricey and too crowded). I lift weights and been doing so for 27 years for about 2-3 times a week for an hour. I don't care much about locker rooms, saunas, pools, yoga, or classes. I like a gym that is not overcrowded, where they have nice help and the prices are reasonable. Most gyms are more concerned with getting your account numbers. I pay for 1 year cash up front so I am not auto rebilled. From my knowledge, this is the only gym in the area that will do this. Great price, great people, great equipment and not over crowded. Highly recommend this gym.
Leaves a lot to be desired, especially with regards to weight training equipment. They have plenty of useless machines, but only one squat rack, with the safety bars permanently set such that it is impossible to squat properly. Discourteous and unprofessional staff, inflexible membership options, and bizarre, unnecessary additions like movie theaters and juice bars... I guess if you're into all of that stuff and every piece of equipment you would ever want to use absolutely HAS to be yellow, then this is your place. But if you're serious about training and fitness, best look elsewhere.
I join this gym about 3months ago and I seem to constantly requesting the mens locker room cleaned. The showers are very dirty, bar soaps, shampoo bottles etc have been left in the shower for weeks. Bathroom floor, sink and counter is just a mess. I have shown the staff at the front desk numerous times but it seem to be the same. Eventhough the gym is 5mins from my office, I end up driving 20mins away to use a friends shower since I live 45mins from the gym. Its terrible.
Great place to work out very good priced
I highly recommend this gym. It’s by far the best bang for your buck and the staff is amazing!
Are you kidding me went to the gym im in town doing work only to find it closed till the 24th i guess someone couldnt update the web site eh thanks for nothing
I have no pressing issues with the gym. its a African American own gym and former pro football player. I'm month to month. it's a little more expensive, but it eliminate the contract, controversy.
