Merritt Canton is a great gym. They have all the latest equipment and terrific group fitness classes. I particularly like the Cycle classes, a great workout thanks to great instructors!

I used to love working out at the Merrit. Unfortunately I have some severe health issues and ended up in a wheelchair, completely unable to workout. The merrit made it extremely difficult for me to pause my account. I had to provide them with a doctor’s note and was told I have to come in in person. I cannot drive or walk and told them this was not a possibility. It took multiple calls to be able to get a manager to agree to pause my account via email. A few months later, they started charging me again. I called them to cancel and it took a few times before I even was able to get a manager on the line who could help me. Doug was extremely rude and insensitive to my medial issues. He was condescending and would not reverse the charges on my account, even though it was their error. He told me I have to cancel my memebership to get my money back. I told him to cancel it and he said I have to send an email in order to do so and refused to just do it while speaking to him.

Pretty standard gym, really. A little expensive. Sometimes there are issues with machines, but on the whole equipment is new and in pretty good working order. Things are clean and there's a full menu of options. They always seem a little behind the 8 ball (basketball court should have been resurfaced long before it was), but they're trying. And once the parking garage and poolS are open, there will be a lot to love.

Several bad experiences especially over the past two months. I had previously notified management (via written complaint) in January of these problems but no response and minimal improvement. 1) Several times no hot water in shower. At one time throughout an evening there was no water pressure at all (hot or cold) 2) Locker space insufficient for mens locker rooms especially in the evenings. If too many members then either one needs to limit membership enrollment or improve capacity of facilities. 3)Locker theft that has been reported to BPD (2/5/18). Several members with locked lockers affected. Staff/management did not feel it appropriate to inform members. Later find out from night crew that entrances through construction corridors not secure. 4) Lots of turn-over in group fitness instructors; disappointing changes.

This location is Canton is awesome. They offer great classes! The Spin class has awesome music that really gets you into the ride. The Barre class which is newer is an awesome toning class that gives great results. I haven't been a member long enough to use their gym in the summer, but I'm betting I'll be there every weekend!

I love the amenities of Merritt, specifically Canton. I love the variety of classes. Mysty is one of my favorite instructors! She makes classes so much fun, especially on a Saturday morning! Her attitude is great and she makes coming to the gym a much more entertaining experience!

Been in fitness/gyms for 20 years. Best club in the city...except the other Merritt clubs. Amazing free group classes for members: everything you can think of. Take a spin class, you won't regret it. Also note that the pool is off the chain amazing. The nicest pool in the city is being built and will finish sometime in 2017. I like the Merritt's Downtown location during the after work rush at gyms 5-:30 time. twice the size, so you have all the equipment you want :)

I had done a trial here about a year ago when the gym was under renovation and was not impressed; however, when I received a 3-day trial offer, addressed to me, in the mail, I decided to give the club another chance. After working out, I was told that someone named Paul, who at no time had spoken to me directly, had said that because I had done a trial before, I was not welcome to come back for the two remaining days of the trial. No one even tried to talk to me about membership options; I was just told not to come back. I feel that this is deceitful marketing and appalling customer service.

My husband and I both belong to Merritt Clubs in Canton. We picked this particular club because it’s close to our work and it offers free parking as well as a wide variety of equipment. It all started June 15, 2019 when we both went to Merritt Canton to work out. My husband’s locker room was broken into, but the lock was intact. The thief walked away with his credit cards and his drivers license! We filed a police report and visited Target and Harris Teeter where the cards were used, and used! We documented everything and handed it over to the police. The General Manger from Merritt was contacted and we thought we would be taken seriously, instead we got brushed off with a “oh well, the important thing is, you have a better lock now!” or when I voiced my concern that there was a predator at their location, praying on their members and that our address was now exposed to this criminal who could easily target our home, our child, he told us that we were "worried about to many ifs!" We were not happy, felt unheard and knew that we would need to up the security in our house. We got mega locks for the locker room at Merritt’s and left our wallets at work. We were trying to move on and let this go, until... Saturday, July 27th we went to Merritt Canton. We both scanned our tags while one of the front desk clerks held the scanner in her hands and confirmed our identity by looking at the computer. My husband got finished ahead and was waiting for me in the car. While I got in the car, the phone buzzed and a member who knows us was on the other end, telling us about the appalling behavior he witnessed after I walked out. He said he overheard the three (3) women at the front desk hound another Merritt employee for my name. Why, because they wanted to pull up my account. The commotion went on and they were all so submerged in this that they did not see who was hearing it or watching them. The reason for this odd request was, so that they could find out my husband’s name (and info). Yes, I have a handsome husband, but what kind of unprofessional behavior is this? They knew that he was married and that I was his wife, because during the heated conversation, “we want to see her husband” clearly was overheard. The shift manager even tried to bully the 4th employee with “I am your manager and I am demanding you to tell me her name!” My husband realized that he forgot his ankle weights in the locker room, so while I was still on the phone, he ran inside to secure his bag. As he went in, he had to scan his membership tag. When leaving the 3 girls were seen smirking and waving to him, a bit more bubbly than before. So yeah, they saw our account obviously and know his name, contact info now. What kind of establishment is this? Do you want to bring your spouse there to be hit on, worst yet, have his and your privacy invaded by titillated unprofessional women? How much information have these female employees have accessed, what will they do with it? How many other unsuspecting husbands/accounts have they done this to? You, your sanity, integrity, privacy, wallet and your cute husband are not safe at Merritt Clubs in Canton. Caveat emptor!

I had a horrible customer service experience with both Douglass Warner and Alicia Jones regarding this gym! Let me begin by saying when you initially show up the gym attempts to show you all the bells and whistles... what they forget to mention is all the construction still being made to the building. This causes a major inconvenience while working out! The locker room is being remodeled, the "amazing pool area" is closed majority of the year, and several areas of the gym are constantly undergoing construction which does not make for a peaceful gym experience at all! After realizing the false advertising and relocating I attempted to terminate my advertised "flexible" contract. FALSE. I was berated by the manager with their extensive terms and conditions and had a very dissonance conversation with Alicia Jones from billing! Do yourself a favor and find a better gym that puts honesty and customer service first.

Large facility with a large variety of equipment, the surrounding neighborhood seems to be safer and more pleasant than a few blocks down the street. The smell of the surrounding area is very strong due to the refineries?

I have been away from the gym for awhile and have just started back. I love the body pump group class. It is perfect for all ages and me because you can gear you work out based on what you body can handle. Suzanne Cox has been one of my instructors from the beginning of my return. She is so in tuned to her students. She is there 30 minutes before the class starts and is constantly asking if there are any new people to pump, or folks like me who are returning. I love her commitment, energy and enthusiasm!

I love the Merritt in Canton! It has the best fitness classes - wide range of classes as well as multiple time offerings, including lunch time classes too. The instructors are top notch - motivating and pushing you to your best. The gym is clean, friendly and a great staff. Not to mention that in the summer, it becomes the local hangout for some sun and fun!

All the recent changes have not been for the better. The place is hilariously overpriced, crowded, filled with douche bags and some of the rude staff give the others a bad name. Will be quiting soon. The new gym being built at yard 56 is going to be bigger and cheaper. Edit : Thanks for trying to look me up, but unfortunately I'm still a member.

Merritt is a great gym and has a wide variety of group fitness classes. My favorites include the barre class, body attack, and pilates. The instructors are wonderful and very receptive to feedback!

I really like Merritt especially their classes and instructors but I feel like the gym is getting more and more crowded. Even with the new parking garage it’s difficult to find parking some evenings. I’m ending membership not because of the crowding but because of their price increases. When I initially joined I was able to get the “young professional” rate and I was promised that each year after my monthly rate would only go up my $5 a year until it reached the current rate. However, I recently got a letter stating my rate would go up to the current rate effective may 1st. I called to ask about this and to remind them what I was promised only to be told this is legally what gyms are allowed to do with rate increases. Awesome. With such an overcrowded gym you would think they could fund the facilities without hiking up everyone’s rates and breaking their promises. Thanks for the response Merritt but I don’t think you understand what my complaint is. Yes, I was told my rate would increase once I was over 25. What I was told when I joined was that it would only increase $5 a year until it reached the current rate. It already increased by $5 earlier this year when I turned 26 as was my original agreement. My complaint is that you are increasing my rate by another $15 starting in May. This is not what was promised to me when I originally joined.

CONVENIENTLY LOCATED GOOD AESTHETICS PLENTY OF ROOMS. YOU HAVE EVERYTHING ONE COULD WANT IN A GYM AS WELL AS A GREAT LOCATION, GREAT STAFF. PERSONAL TRAINING FEATURE IS FANTASTIC - PERSONAL TRAINERS ARE GREAT PROFESSIONALS IN THEIR AREA. Merritt Clubs Canton has 2 pools - one indoors and one outdoors. They also have plenty of group classes to offer: Unleash Studio for group trainins like Body Pump, Body combat, Body Attack, Revive - Yoga, Barre; and Xcelerate - cycling studio. They offer free coffee at all times. There is plenty of parking, and there is also a garage available for 3 hours for all the members. Gym staff organized big events like new launches, challenges, pool parties with food available and specialty cocktails for purchase. There is also a point program (Perkville) that gives you discounts (hotels, concerts, movies) and freebies (such as free smoothies, free month of membership). Locker rooms are newly renovated and have plenty of space. If you have a question, there is always somebody from staff to help you! I love starting out my day at Merritt Clubs!

My roommates and I absolutely love the Merritt, and do a variety of the group fitness classes from Power Yoga (Cathy is great!) to Pure Barre (Ann-Marie and Kelly are great!) as well as take advantage of the cardio/weight machines. It is always super clean and everyone there is friendly and helpful! Also, the pool in the summertime is amazing. Highly recommend this gym to anyone in the Canton area!

If you want to try a spin class at Merritt, I highly recommend instructor Mysty Edrington. By far the best spin instructor I have ever had. She doesn’t SCREAM AT YOU like a drill sergeant. She also doesn’t get all spiritual and talk to you like you’re in a yoga class. She is all about having a good time and does everything by the beat of the music. She encourages singing if you know (or don't know) the words and she even gets off her bike in the middle of every class and dances. The playlists are always on point and sometimes she will throw in a theme (last time I went it was all 80’s /90’s remixes- amazing). Rather than dread an intense work out, I look forward to her classes because I have so much fun.

I love this gym! I do the group fitness classes only, and they attract a wide variety of ages and abilities. The instructors are wonderful and very enthusiastic. Also, I originally joined to use the outdoor swimming pool which is an added bonus during the sumer months. Everything is clean and top notch. I highly recommend this gym. #Groupfitnessrocks

I signed up at for a year membership based upon an expansive facility and very cordial staff. Shortly after signing up I was introduced to the other side of Merit Fitness. I routinely have to wait more then 15 minutes for a treadmill. My standard 45 minute workout takes me over 2 hours because of overcrowding. Now that January is here I wait an hour for a treadmill and the workout normally is given up on. In addition to this I had a very poor experience with their personal training team. I scheduled my free personal training that came with my membership for my first week. I was very excited to renew my weight loss and achieve new goals. When the night of my training arrived I received a text from my trainer. "The appointment before you canceled and could you come in early". I indicated that I intending to come right after work so I could not do earlier. Fast forward to my arrival at the gym. I checked in for my training and got on a treadmill to warm up. I receive a text from the trainer ten minutes in to our time. "Where you at man". I told him I was on the treadmill and he indicated that he would come get me. 20 minutes into my session and I text him "are you still looking for me? I am still on the treadmill. 25 minutes in I get the reply "sorry couldn't find you we will have to reschedule". I say no big deal and continue on my day. The next day I receive an email congratulating me on completing my personal training with him. Over all this gym has oversold their equipment and under provided their customer service.

If you need a jump start to your Saturday morning I would highly recommend taking spin class with Mysty Saturday morning's at 10:00 am. She gets the entire class involved and gives you an amazing workout. You leave class with a smile on your face and feeling great. GET INVOLVED!

I'm a confessed gym rat. This is a remarkable gym. Spacious change rooms. Great equipment with free weights, squat rack, calf and dip stations... Which is frequently neglected at other gyms. Proper spacing to feel comfortable doing power cleans and 24 hours access. I am a frequent traveler so I was looking to try before committing to a drop in fee or membership. The 7 day no pressure trial was most appreciated...still in shock there was no forced tour. A gem in Baltimore.

Nice club... However I am super disappointed that during the tour I specifically asked about pool schedule and was told the only time lap lanes are reserved is for masters swim 2x a week... I even asked for a schedule to confirm... Up one my first visit 3 of 4 lanes are reserved for swim team which seems to be on the schedule about every night... Again giving the one star for untruthful salesmanship.

LOVE Merritt! So many great group fitness classes to chose from with varying, convenient times. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and they do everything they can to keep members updated on the what is going on at the club- whether it is new offerings, holiday hours, or special classes. Many staff members even take the time to get to know you by name! While I haven't tried the new blow-dry bar service yet, I'm really excited that is now available. Also, can't beat having a pool to relax at in the summer :)

Merritt has made Volo city a priority over its regular gym members. Every day this week I’ve tried to play basketball (3/11, 3/12, 3/13). Volo is there occupying the court as usual. It’s frustrating to pay over $80 bucks a months for a basketball court I cant use. They play from 6pm to 10pm. So unless you get off of work super early or really late, your out of luck. I called today and was told you can play after their done. I’m not sure if this is Merritt Athletic or Volo city athletic gym.

I absolutely LOVE the group fitness classes at Merritt- and really appreciate that I can have access to ALL of the downtown class schedules to pick the type of classes and the time that works best on any given day!! I mostly tend to work out at the Canton/Fed Hill gyms- and they have done a lot of upgrades to cardio machines (love the new group fitness cycle bikes) and free weights lately which has been super nice!! LOVE the salt water pool at Canton all winter long!!

I like the physical layout of the club and all of the machines have been in working order every time that I have visited. My only gripe is that the parking lot is extremely limited. If possible, I'd recommend walking or riding a bicycle here .

Great gym that should be the best in the area soon once the new construction is complete. I just think it is so expensive ($79/month) if you don’t take the classes offered in the price, like me who only lifts weights and hits the pool. I’ve thought about leaving but haven’t, so there must be something that’s keeping me there.
