You will see all the feddbacks of people like you who consumed the products and services of World Gym (Gym) in the area close to Maine.
Nowadays this business has a score of 3.6 stars over 5 and this score was based on 49 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is very high, and it's based on a very large number of opinions, so we can say that the valuation is quite faithful. If many people have bothered to give their opinion when they've done well with the service, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to give feddbacks when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Gym corresponds to the category of Fitness center.
Decent price and they have most of what you want for powerlifting but they only have one oly platform with cheap bumber plates. Would have liked to see 3 platforms with higher quality bars and weights.
I walk in to get a quick workout late tonight: Me: "Hi. How's it going." Guy behind the desk: "We close at 22:00." Me: "Yeah, I know." Guy: "Be prompt." Hr turned off the music at 20:25.
I love World Gym in Portland so much! I have had memberships at Planet Fitness and Anytime Fitness and World Gym is by far my favorite.
Cardio equipment is consistently out of order making them full all the time. Staff seems unconcerned and doesn't mark equipment as unsafe even after being notified.
I was walking out tonight at 7:59 and they guy working was standing in front of the last people working out, looking at his phone, waiting for it to say 8:00. He then yelled "8:00 guys! You should be going home..." Throws up his arms and shakes his head. If you're going to treat guests like this I'd change the big WG clock on the wall so that it's not two minutes slow.
is a good gym, a lot of weights, but they need to update the inside of the building
Good price, great location. Good trainer. If my trainer left, I would be gone. My negatives are that the showers are disgusting. Black mold on the ceiling. Floors in showers are dirty, visibly so. Gym area is generally clean but possibly because customers frequently clean the equipment before or after use.
Love this gym
The members and staff were like a family to me. I will miss them dearly. Check it out if you want to meet good people.
Nice crowd of members, friendly staff, clean facilities.
They have a lot of nice equipment good energy they have an awesome dip machine
I thought the gym had good equipment and it was clean. It has a good layout and plenty of room and mirrors to accommodate a crowded gym. I saw no broken equipment and most of it appeared new. I thought the lockers were big compaired to most gyms and the locker room was clean. They have a sauna and steam room which is a huge plus. My main complaint was the staff, if not for the front desk person I would have given it 5 stars. I've never seen someone who obviously hated their job more than the girl at the front desk. She had a permanent frown on her face and I honestly felt like an inconvenience for interrupting her standing at the empty front desk. I arrived at around 3pm and after paying for a day pass I was informed they were closing at 5. Two hours is plenty of time to get a workout in, but I think I should have been told before paying.
PROS & CONS: I appreciate the cleanliness of the gym, the machine and free weight options, as well as the friendly staff. During the times I go (generally off-peak), World Gym is not overly crowded. However, I have five negative comments with regard to malfunctioning/broken equipment, lack of management response to ongoing problems, temperature of the women's dressing room, and the loud volume of the music. If a piece of equipment is not functioning properly, when you talk to management or staff, they will listen but sometimes they simply do nothing to solve the issue, even after being kindly reminded several times and allowed months or years to fix the problem. There is one piece of equipment widely used by members that has been broken for about three years. The fix is simple and inexpensive, and management is aware of it but does nothing. The women's dressing room is unacceptably cool most of the year. Management has heard about this problem from numerous members over the years but does nothing. Lastly, World Gym plays typically plays poor quality music LOUDLY (esp. loud in the women's locker room). If you have the misfortune to be working out near the cycling room, which BLARES its music with the door open, you will be exposed to two forms of loud music. For an establishment devoted to health, they should be aware that exposure this volume of music, especially for any length of time, does irreparable damage to hearing. I recommend they hire a local audiologist or the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for a one-time visit to do an evaluation. I recommend people wear hearing protection. (Other issues with World Gym are minor, and I accept or overlook them because the membership rates are low and, therefore, some compromises are to be expected.)
This place has the worst customer service in the world and I will never be obtaining a membership from this establishment again. The gym staff needs some serious updating if they want to gain any customers.
I have to say that World Gym is one of the better gyms that I've belonged to. World Gym is huge. They have a good amount of benches and squat racks. Plenty of Cardio equipment and more than enough free weights. Join this gym, it's awesome.
Place hasn't been updated in 3 years. The locker rooms always reeks of ass. I canceled my membership and they tried to charge me additional money after I was no longer there and immediately sent it to a collection agency. Why not just give me a friendly call? No professionalism
This place has a great gym and there is a great group of people that go there, the staff are pretty friendly as well. However, on numerous occasions this place has wrongfully taken, or attempted to wrongfully take my money. I canceled my membership because my wallet was stolen from THEIR locker room, and the staff made no efforts to help me track it down. I canceled all of my cards and the card I signed up with was one of them. However, despite me cancelling my membership, I was charged at the beginning of next month anyway. I was informed that even though I had canceled at the beginning of January, I still had to pay for the following month of February. I also paid late fees because my stolen card was declined. A few months later I get another call from their collection agency, Twin Oak. They tell me that I now owe World Gym $40 more dollars, on top of the $31 that I already paid for a month in which I never once stepped foot in the gym. This $40 charge was a "maintenance fee" charged every February to annual members... mind you, I had a one month membership from December 10 or so until January 3, at which point I cancelled my membership. So now I was being charged for an annual maintenance fee for a membership to a gym that I had cancelled not even a month after signing up, and after all was said and done I had paid for 3 months of membership, plus late charges for the last month, and a $40 dollar "maintenance charge" for annual members, just to spend 3 weeks at a gym in December, only to have my wallet stolen out of their locker room. Moral of the story, great gym, but a great place to have money stolen from you (in various ways, they're greasy.)
Positives Include: Great Parking, Great Price, Good Location. Negatives Include: Very Dirty Locker Room, Gross Moldy Shower, Broken Sauna & Steam Room, Sweaty Equipment, Lazy Staff. Overall: You get what you pay for at Worlds Gym.
Decent gym for the price. Good assortment of equipment. Usually enough lifting stations. Wifi. My only complaint is that it is too hot and humid. There aren't any fans besides a few overhead. I can't do cardio without having a heat stroke.
Good gym.. Not great, definitely a weightlifting gym, they actually have dumbells that go over 80lbs.. Some douchey roid heads.. The trainers are mediocre and unimaginative.. Definitely better than the planet fitness down the street.
They Condone Sexual Harassment - fact. As long as its a 50-year old woman doing it to a 29-year-old guy. Happened to me twice. Talked directly to the manager about it. This thin old creepy blonde woman that touched me is still working out at the facility, making it awkward for me to pass by. Oh, you think I'm faking this review, world gym? Keytag number 228621. Go ahead and talk to me. Lets make it a WCSH6 story :)
Mediocre gym, terrible service. The equipment is often broken or missing. At one point one of their two bench presses broke, and it took over 7 weeks to replace it (yet upon asking every week they would say "oh, it'll be ready in a few days"). Tried cancelling my membership and got charged an extra month. Tried resolving it by calling them numerous times, and the manager was never in. They always took a message and promised that I'd get a phone call back from the manager to sort things out, which never happened. There is a surprising lack of affordable gyms in Portland, and the price of this makes it attractive, but avoid the headache.
I love this place i lost 12, lbs thanks to world gym
Management is terrible at this gym. Responds poorly to feedback about the lack of cleanliness in the gym, continuously broken equipment, and cancellation of classes that members like. They frequently get rid of good instructors and the classes they keep are outdated. Basically, it seems as though they couldn't care less about their customers, because with their low rates they are always pretty full, with a large young crowd. I have noticed a good many of the regular members are no longer putting up with it and have left, as have I.
Feels comfortable. Good equipment, nice members.
Great gym and staff but not enough plates. Constantly looking around for plates while I could be working out.
