I started going to this location after a friend who had a membership offered to take me as a guest. I began getting more invested in fitness early this year, but had a hard time finding a gym where I felt comfortable and welcome. From my first visit, Crunch in Anderson was it. The staff is always friendly, and other patrons are as well. On a recent visit, I found out that Brandon had been fired. I was shocked - Brandon was almost always the one working when I would go in, and was always extremely welcoming, friendly, courteous, and helpful. I still workout with the friend who originally brought me to this location, and he and I both really valued Brandon being there. There were multiple times where Brandon would even offer us advice on routines, nutrition, and other factors. He really went above and beyond to make this a great place. It already doesn't feel the same without him there, and I honestly don't know that I will continue to visit this location without him there.

The actual gym is great, however, the childcare is the most hectic place I've ever seen. Honestly, I feel really bad even taking my kids there but there aren't many other options in the area. If you like to go in the morning just know there are about 30 kids in a small room with one or two adults. They should consider extending their childcare hours so that it's a bit more spread out.

Great management. Great staff. I love all the different machines that are at this location. Always feel like like i can do what i need to do.

Card still being charged after cancellation. I have politely tried numerous times to get this corrected over the phone and staff has been incredibly rude each time.

Dave B

Ridiculous customer service. Unresponsive management. Not enough equipment for the crowd. Saw their obese "trainer" have a novice client engage in very unsafe movements... and then both left the equipment without reracking the weights. And I thought Planet Fitness was a circus... they don't compare to these clowns.

No employees in sight to check me in. There were no employees in sight the entire evening even as I was leaving. Didn't feel comfortable that anyone could literally walk in off the street. Extremely vulgar music was also blasted through a set of speakers that the entire gym could hear clearly even with headphones in. Overall just disappointed and don't plan to come back to this location anytime soon.

I like this gym, pretty basic. Staff is helpful

Non working wifi seems to be a common problem here and there is no phone service inside the facility. Very rarely get to actually listen to your own music because of this. I left after 20 minutes trying to get the wifi to work and after talking to an employee. I'm heading to another gym to get a workout instead.

Updated after I finally received my refund— took several emails and calls to actually get that taken care of. I still should not have to write a bad review in order to get my issue addressed. Let me start this by saying that this is the first negative review I’ve ever written. I generally give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but I am really disappointed in Crunch. I signed up a year ago for the peak membership. A few months in, I realized that I don’t use the classes and went in to downgrade my membership to the base option and save the extra $10/month. I received my new key card for the base membership and assumed everything else had been taken care of with the monthly payment. Fast forward to now when I decided that I’d like to cancel my membership alltogether because I rarely go. I happened to look at my bank statements and noticed that my membership fee had never been lowered. Today, I went in to cancel my membership and get a refund for all the months I was overcharged. I was told that there was no record of my downgrade and that my “downgrade fee” had not been processed, so my membership price was never lowered. Being that this was not my fault, I expected to still receive a refund, but instead, I was told there was nothing they could do and that they would wave the downgrade fee. How nice. How is it my fault that their employee never completed the correct documentation to downgrade my membership? Please consider another gym that doesn’t nickle and dime it’s customers. I went in politely and left when I realized that they weren’t willing to help and be understanding of their own mistake. If you are a member, I would highly recommend you check your statements every month because they apparently keep very few records and are unwilling to help if there is a mixup.

The facility has several aspects that make CRUNCH an excellent choice from a price point perspective. First, they have a very competitive yearly membership price for the services and equipment provided. (Child care, hydro massage, spin classes, fitness classes)Recent improvements include Free wifi and paper towels in the locker rooms. With that said CRUNCH does have more room for improvement.I believe that their membership numbers have exceeded their expectations with regard for the size of the facility. CRUNCH could benefit from a utilization report of which equipment is used most and which is used less and adjust inventory appropriately. Other suggestions would include adding the spin classes to be included with premium membership. At the time of this review spin classes are not included with premium membership. No gym is ever going to make everyone happy. With all that said CRUNCH is the best bang for your buck if you looking for a gym on the East Side.

The Company continues to charge my credit card twice a month. The monthly fee and then a second charge that is not in accordance with the terms of the agreement. I have politely asked them on numerous occasions to stop the second charge. Every time I talk to a person at the front desk the person agrees I should not be charged the second amount and they will look into it and fix it. It has been six months and they continue to charge my card for amounts that everyone agrees should not be charged to me. Would simply like them to correct the problem.

Jeremy Begley

Decent enough gym. I am a transfer member from the Fitworks days. I loved it at first. Anymore it is too crowded. I haven't been able to get on a bench in 3 weeks. Between being too crowded and trainers hogging the equipment clearly in open areas of the gym, it is time to look for a new spot. I would like to find a gym that looking at paying members the all the same and didn't give presedent to "trainers". It makes you feel like just because you don't pay for or need to pay for additional services they don't place the same value on your membership and give those with paid training sessions presedent on what would appear to be otherwise common use equipment and space. Not a good policy IMO and not something I have experienced at other facilities.

I have been a member of the Anderson Crunch since it opened. Why are things not getting fixed. I would say 75% of the treadmills have non working headphone jacks and the ones that work won't pick up TV 2 and 5. They have been like that for months. I told the manager and he put it on the list but no one comes to fix it. Now one of the hand blowers in the women"s restroom is broken and the weight machine in the training section is broken. I am beginning to think I need to go somewhere else that does proper maintenance.

Hola mi Amigos!

Changing my review from 5 stars. This gym has become last resort for me. I've been a member since their build out gym location which I will add I liked much better than the current way they run their gym. It is every other month I get extra money taken out of my account then they have to refund it back and I could deal with that no problem exept it is very often I have one of the trainers kick me off of the machines because they have "classes" about to start. More often than not those classes don't start for 5 minutes after then don't consist of the machine I was thrown off of. Today I was doing land mine pressing with a barbell and the trainer kicked me off so I timed it. 6 minutes and 38 seconds later (Plenty of time to get my last 2 sets in) they started a class doing push ups in front of the barbell swivle... Because there's no room anywhere else in the gym to do push ups? Come on. I pay money to use your equipment so you shouldn't be kicking me off of it. Currently looking for a new gym where the workers aren't an annoyance.

Nice place

This place is great. My only complaint is that they need to add a Glute Ham Developer (GHD) machine. And a space to do wall walks and handstand push-ups. ***There is a bit of wall space by the cycle room, but I'm afraid my gym shoes will mess up the walls when doing wall walks, etc.

Coming from Planet Fitness, and I love it at CRUNCH. The sign up was easy. They set you up a free session with a personal trainer. I was with Jacoby and he was super helpful. They have child care. I've been going to Crunch for a few weeks now on weekly passes while my employer wellness program gets processed. The staff has been very friendly and accommodating. There is always plenty of available cardio equipment: treadmills and elipticals. I've been early morning and around lunch and never had a problem finding open free weights or machines. There are two power racks and a squat rack. In addition, one of the Smith machines (two total Smith machines) can also be used as a power rack with a free barbell and safety pins. The T-bar row is actually an attachment near the base of the cross fit area. Dumbbells max out at 125 lbs and there is a rack of EZ curl bars up to 110 lbs. Clean, new, well maintained locker rooms and showers. The one time I noticed a piece of damaged equipment, it was repaired by the next day.

Too crowded. Really need more gyms around east gate Batavia area. And you really should tell your trainers they need to put weights back. You have one guy leaves them on and just goes to next machine EVERY TIME

Dragging Dad Around

A good gym for a reasonable price. Good classes. TRX straps available for use. Exercise class room available for use when classes are not in session. Child Care hours (+$10/month) Tanning booths (if you do that). 2 HydroMassage chairs (not as comfortable as the beds, though). Plenty of parking. Big windows. Since they do not have a "Suggestion Box" I will mention some items here which should explain the 3 STAR review. -Management very unprofessional. **I replied to the managers comment below about him wanting to discuss my review. After quite a few emails we scheduled a day and time. He "forgot" about our meeting - never showed up - and nobody there knew anything about it. I did get a 'sorry, I forgot' phone call. -Many very inconsiderate members: They throw their sweatshirts on weight machines they are not using, like a coat hook. They sit on the machine in between sets so you cannot get on. Sometimes for as many as 10 sets. They use equipment to put their drinks, bags and phones on, instead of the floor (in the plyometric area). Very few people wipe down the machines when they are done. -Send someone into the locker room and bathroom once an hour to CLOSE LOCKERS!!!, check the hand soap, wipe down benches and bathrooms. The bathroom is always filthy. Today, there was drink mix all over a bench when I arrived and still there when I left 2 hours later. And no paper towels in the bathroom for me to wipe it up. -Toilet seat covers in the bathroom. -The employees could be wiping down some equipment once in a while, picking up equipment and the stray piece of trash. -There were at least 2 machines out of service for a while. The 1 row machine they have had a broken handle for over a month. -Please add 1 or 2 large, digital clocks to the walls. It would be a major plus for tracking rest periods between sets, keeping an eye on the time instead of having to check my phone, not being late for a class, or whatever. Nobody can read the analog clocks as they are too far away and grey on grey. -Off Peak at least, increase the default HydroMassage time to 15 minutes. 10 minutes is just not long enough. -The members should be more important to the staff than whatever conversation the staff is having with each other. The staff is friendly (enough) but always seem to be on their phones or in the middle of a story about last night with a coworker. I will not single any one out, but regardless of how long you have worked here you should make the time and effort to be polite to everyone. -As far as the Personal Trainers go, the tall Personal Trainer, Dave, is professional and friendly, always has a smile and says hello to everyone. I have not seen this behavior from any other trainers. They do not smile or say "hello." I have seen this even with the members they are training. They look around somewhere else, talking to friends and heavy lifters. If you do take advantage of the Personal Training here, demand full attention from your trainer, and you should be pleased with the results. ***One thing I did notice is that they have female Personal Trainers, which is a nice option for any gym to have, especially if you are a woman looking for a Trainer you are more comfortable with. -They should offer an exercise class or Small Group Training class for lunch hour. Maybe 12:15-12:45. -How about we scan our own passes when we arrive? You can still say "hi!" Waiting in line to check in is very annoying. Overall, it is an adequate gym.

I went there tonight hoping it wouldn't be very busy, but there were a few guys blasting music with their own speakers. I didn't see a single employee the entire time I was there, including the front desk, so there was no stopping them. It was very unpleasant, and it made me not want to go back.

Will Hawkins

Decent equipment. Great group classes and trainers. Decent cardio equipment. They are VERY busy. Which makes it hard to use some pieces of equipment I wish they were a little larger so that they could have more bench presses, leg press machines, and squat racks. They do have childcare, BUT your child has to be able to walk. So parents of young babies or late walkers, this is not the place for you to join unless you plan to work out separately.

Steve Habegger

I wash my hands each day before I leave. This piece of gum has been in the men's restroom sink for 6 days or longer. You can also see the film of dirt in the sink. The weekend employees do a great job of keeping the weight room organized and I've seen them wiping down equipment and vacuuming. However, I haven't seen the normal cleaning staff in a while, which suggests that no one is cleaning the restrooms.

Things started off great they talked us into signing up. When signing up Asked about child care as we have a 4year old and 9 month old. Female worker asked if baby walked yet advised her that baby didn’t walk yet but would only be there when brother was and worker said everything would be fine. First day of attending the gym the worker in the kids crunch area asked if baby could walk, advised not yet busy she’s trying. Was told she would be fine. Took the next day off from the gym. Second day at the gym, last Wednesday, went for the morning HIIT class with Jacoby (great trainer!). Took kids to kids crunch area and there was a different worker there, asked if baby could walk advised no but girl at desk told us when we signed up she would be fine. Worker said usually they have to walk but that she was fine. After working out I approached the female worker at the desk that signed us up and let her know about the incidents in the kids area. Her response was that the baby was fine she wasn’t the only one the couldn’t walk that was in there and that if the guy in the office didn’t say anything then we were fine and he had seen us this week and didn’t say anything so there was nothing to worry about and she signed us up to meet with a trainer the following Monday. This past Monday we go in to meet with said trainer. Same girl is working the desk with another girl on one computer and a guy I’ve never seen before standing beside her on the right talking to her. When I go to hand my key tag to the other worker she tells us to wait and taps the other guy on the shoulder (Name tag said Mike) and he asked if the baby could walk at about that time she walked away to the office. I advised no and his response was well sorry she can’t go in there then. When babies can’t walk they require more care than those that can and their staff can’t provide that care. I advised him I needed to cancel our memberships then and that we had been told she was fine and went last week and was fine. He asked who told us that and I pointed to the girl who left the desk and he stated that he would address it with staff. I told him I needed to be refunded because we were lied to and couldn’t use the gym if we couldn’t use the childcare. He told me he would call the company that processes payment and see if he could do it and that it was beyond his control, asked for my phone number and told me he would call that afternoon or the following morning. When I got home and reviewed my cancellation the reason for canceling was marked that we moved which was another lie. I waited until 1pm Tuesday afternoon and no call so I called and asked for a manager the girl who answered the phone was hesitant on getting one but got someone who identified himself as Micheal on the line I advised him I spoke to a Mike the day before which I was guessing was him and was supposed to have a call back but never got one. I needed both memberships to be refunded and he was supposed to have been contacting abc financial or something but that after reviewing the agreement I should be eligible for full refund. He said I must have spoke to the assistant manager (not sure who he was then) but that he would go in the system and refund them right then. Advised that it was not coded in the system as to why we had to cancel properly either and he said he would change it. He didn’t want to hear much of what I had to say and rushed me off the phone. I feel that we were mislead just to get us to sign up. That the staff doesn’t take ownership of problems. They don’t hold themselves accountable when they mess up or own up to their actions. None of this had to happen had the girl just told us from the start the baby couldn’t be in the care area. There was nothing in the agreement or posted anywhere stating kids had to walk or an age they needed to be. I’ll be watching for a refund and taking another course of action if it’s not issued within a week

Samantha Nocella

I have been wanting to go,but after reading all if the reviews, and being double charged I might have to find another gym.

This gym is outstanding! The staff is friendly, helpful, and full of information. The locker rooms and the facility are always clean. The memberships are very affordable and the cheapest one they offer is $10 a month. If you pay for an upgrade which brings you to $21 a month you get access to every Crunch in Cincinnati and you can bring one free guest with every gym visit. They also offer over 27 varieties of group fitness classes that come with the upgrade. And you also get one free consultation with a personal trainer who will help you reach your goals if you get a membership. There's a cardio area, a HIIT area with turf and punching bags, weight lifting machines, free weights, barbells that exceed 80 lbs, a group fitness room, a biking room, and etc. Also the upgraded membership comes with access to tanning beds and hydro massage beds!

Typical gym. No WiFi! Said "building owner" won't let them. Don't believe it. They already have internet for POS and computers they are using. Too cheap to pay for it.

Tonna Duvall

I joined CRUNCH last week after visiting most of the gyms within a 30 mile radius. I found two employees especially exceptional. They are David and Bishup. I watched David very patiently and professionally guide a young client with a learning disability through several of the weight machines. David ensured the boy had a rewarding experience. David has an inner quality that shines through to those around him! Bishup helped me first over the phone. He carefully explained all of the levels of membership to find the one that was right for me. Then as I began to come in for my workouts he provided me with off the charts customer service. You could really tell he wants to help as he often went the extra mile several times. He is friendly, caring, knowledgable and professional. The only thing that stops this from being a 5 star rating is that some of the other employees stand around a lot just talking. I would prefer they walk the floor, clean the machines and assist the gym members. When a member is working out, it is difficult to clean a machine after using it AND keep up the heart rate. If I were the owner, I would want to get more work done from other staff members. I am sure labor costs are not cheap! Great job through to David and Bishup!

I visited this Crunch Fitness location on 11/29 from 9:30-11 pm. Not a single employee was ever at the front desk, let alone the rest of the gym. I walked straight in. I am also pretty sure members cant use full size speakers on a cart to blast their personal music for everyone to hear. Honestly just shocked and want someone to know.

Overall, nice gym. The average review score for this gym is lower than my impression of it. I’m visiting from out of town; been to approx. about 10 other Crunch gyms - in CA. I would rank this as the second nicest Crunch that I’ve been to. The equipment looks new, the facilities look clean, and staff were friendly.

I've been going to the Anderson location for 3 months. Equipment stays broken for weeks before they fix it. Half of the bulbs are burnt out in the tanning booths. I contacted them about the bulbs being burnt out but no response. Booth number 1 literally had 20 bulbs burnt out (i counted them) and one of the other booths the glass is broken on the door. One of their employees is always on his phone and seems to be yelling a lot at the person on the other line, and spends the majority of his time sitting on the couch.

Having been a member here for over 2 years, I was never really motivated to go to the gym and never had any one to teach me how to make proper gains. One day in Early May of 2018 I met one of the employees there named Brandon. This guy was one of the most down to earth caring guys that always looked out for me, and held conversations and gave me advice as if we were life long friends. He started me on a plan and for the past 8 months, there has been nothing but positive thoughts and the upmost respect for Brandon. He truly motivated me and changed my whole perspective about fitness. We developed a bond together and always work out together. When I figured out that Brandon got fired, it struck me. I was so shocked!! What could he have possibly done to get fired? He brings the energy and motivation to the gym. Before playing his music on the speakers he always asks people if it is ok to proceed before doing so. And if there are any customers in the front he always goes to assist them if they need any help. This guy goes above and beyond. With Brandon being gone, it’s not going to feel the same now. We worked out 4-5 time a week and he was like a personal coach to me. He was the one person that got me into a healthy lifestyle. If there was anything he was doing that was offensive he would have fixed it immediately. Judging him off one experience is wrong. Having known him for the past 8 months has been a positive experience. We developed a brotherly bond and it only makes sense to get him back to continue giving off positive vibes. He is one of the most motivational employees giving advice to everyone and making sure that everyone feels comfortable. I’m hoping that he can come back. The gym isn’t the same without his presence.

Tom Marx

First off, can't beat the prices and you aren't locked into a contract, so you can cancel at any time. Gym is new and all equipment is well maintained and cleanly. During early morning workouts, the gym is not overly crowded and there is rarely a wait for a piece of equipment.

Randall Miller

Great gym, no contract cheap dues with a daycare. Only catch is some of the “personal trainers” are no way possibly qualified to be personal trainers, I’ve personally never used the “personal training” services but I’ve seen them with clients during my workouts and it jut isn’t very good. Other than that if you’re going to actually do the research and figure out what you need to do to meet your goal on your own it’s a wonderful place.
