Great place
It's great, but needs to be cleaner
Great area
Awesome facility with walking track that has a nice view of downtown KC, kids zone is extremely well-staffed and professional. Great variety of classes and a nice lounge area.
Beautiful facility, helpful employees.
One of the best YMCA's in the Metropolitan area. I suggest everyone to visit for a relaxing swim to an intense workout.
I work here
Waterslides were not available at time of visit due to staffing issues
The pools great for all ages. The gym is decent and the kidzone is nice. Great staff
Loved it! Great staff, very clean, not very crowded either
Very big. Sad it doesn’t have a racketball room. But other than that they have everything I want to work out on.
I love this place! They just remodeled and now it has a X gym, the only thing that would make this place 5 stars is to build an outdoor pool in all that grassy area they have over by the parking lot!
Drove some people here from Australia that was for a wedding. They wanted to go swimming and Oceans of Fun was closed today. Call the YMCA and explained the situation the Guy at the front desk let them in for free on a 3 day pass. They was delighted. Made their day. Thank you
Great asset for North KC! The YMCA did a pnenominal job of retooling the City's community center when the City needed a partner. I love the produce pantry they provide. A very creative and effective way to address those witg food insecurity.
Don't swim here you will die. Life guards only guard their own lives and cannot distinguish when one is in trouble. The only thing they are good at is blowing the whistle.
Great place
Great YMCA! One of the best in the metro and definitely the one that has the most natural lighting. Almost always pop in when I am passing by.
There is this lifeguard manager always screaming at kids and parents, it seems like you are not allowed to have fun there....
Beautiful building and extremely nice employees.
Great gym. Only one down side friend of mine had something stolen from locker. But over all good facility
It is a fun place
Pretty good facility with nice staff. It can get busy nights and weekends and you'd better be mentally prepared to see people working out in jeans.
Great services, great staff, and a great value for your cost of membership. Glad I am a member
Great place. Clean organized and staff is always welcoming
Nice place for a meeting for insurance
Beautiful building but some of the staff I don't care for
I wanna apologize to the Atchison Y, I posted my review to the wrong Y. My comments were about the NORTH KANSAS CITY YMCA! This week i came in to workout and i was just fed up with the rude desk workers that sit and negatively answer your questions, or not at all. And the frigid climate of the center all throughout. Try working up a sweat in that one! I mean everybody wears a jacket, it's ridiculous! They said something broke in there and they cant fix it. Now you know where your dollars are going. The door less women's lockerroom is so drafty, I dare not shower in the winter months, with all of the sickness that goes on. It's a formula for disaster!
Fun especially if the pool is fully opened. Slides whirlpool and hot sauna so much water fun
Huge place, friendly atmosphere, good yoga instructor
On Wednesday, January 31st 2018, my disabled American Veteran father was the victim of shameless discrimination & prejudice at the hands of your staff & members. I spoke with Randy the Director of Operations & his overall attitude was he did not care, apparently Randy thinks that discriminatory, prejudicial bullying of a disabled American Veteran is no big deal. We will see if he still feels that way when we file a discrimination lawsuit & organize our national boycott of the YMCA. You should be ashamed Randy, for allowing this to happen on your watch. NOT COOL RANDY.
My kids like the pool and i like the classes. Now with Ruby Jeans open its easier to grab a good food choice on my way out. Much better than previous where i went across the street to qt and grabbed junk food afterwards.
Best gym ive ever been at. Plenty of equipment and room to exercise.
Everyone is really nice I would go here weekly and swimming was also fun especially because the life guards were super nice!
Love the Y! Swim instructors are awesome!!
Clean, well maintained. Busy but still open machines. Lots of free classes to choose from.
Well ran establishment great for the community
Good workout
Amazing work with the remodeling. Can't wait until they incorporate the healthy snacks to go (I heard that it will be supplied by Ruby Jeans)!!! So excited. The equipment is top of the line and the customer service is amazing. The personal trainers (Becca and Tang) are absolutely amazing if you have any questions about any machines or equipment. They are an irreplaceable resource to ensure comfort and results for members. The only suggestion I would have would be to declutter the rooms used for consultations. We went in to measure our BMI and there were quite a few mens jackets out that made the office looked cluttered.
Our kids are currently going through the YMCA soccer and baseball programs. The YMCA creates an environment that is perfect for kids of all skill levels to learn a new sport or continue progressing in the sport of their choice. The coaches are first class and the facilities are adequate. We are fortunate to have these YMCA programs in our area. If you have a child that is interested in pursuing a sport, the YMCA offers great programs to get the ball rolling.
I normally go to the Parkville "Y", but with highway 9 closed to flooding, I tried NKC "Y" f ok r the first time and I'm a convert.
Very nice YMCA! Definitely the nicest I have ever been to by far! We don't have a membership as it's out of our price range but our daughter takes swim lessons there and it's been great so far. If you're in the Kansas City area and looking to get a membership to a YMCA you definitely need to check this one out!
I have had a membership here for 7 years. It is always clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. The child care is nice and they often have parent's night out themed programs for the kids. There are lots of treadmills and similar machines, many with their own televisions. There is a nice easy to moderate rock climbing wall but check the schedule. Indoor track and basket ball courts. There are only four lap swimming lanes although there is a great lazy river, slide, and toddler pool. Check the pool schedule before you go as there are lots of classes offered that sometimes use the lap lanes.
Excellent, the best one I have ever seen
Great gym. Great selection of equipment, including 3 squat racks, 2 deadlift platforms, two bench press benches, a punching bag, dry sauna, wet sauna, and whirlpool/jacuzzi/hot tub. Staff is very friendly. Some minor problems: equipment breaks a lot and stays broken (2 fewer benches and 1 fewer punching bag than when I started), the climbing wall they bragged about still isn't open, the locker rooms aren't cleaned very often, whirlpool and spas always seem to be broken. The water slide has only been open twice in the months I've been coming. Despite the downsides, I'd definitely recommend the gym. Never really had a bad workout here: just occasional frustrations when I want to steam or soak after a work out.
This place is amazing with all the services they offer just wish it would be 24/7 to work out in.
Amazing staff, making a difference, friendly, understanding, easy to work with.
The children's pool slide is hardly ever open. Not even on weekends
Wonderful place for entire family
Very nice facility. Unfortunately not enough lifeguards at the pool to keep all areas open when we visited.
We are new participants in the Y's youth sports programs. I think the infrastructure and organization of the youth sports program is superior to my local parks and rec department, and we are having a great experience.
Best place i could go swimming.you should also if you want.
This y is friendly it's like you know everyone and actually you know no one
I love love love this ymca. Its probably the most fancy one I've ever been to. The staff is super nice. The locker rooms are always clean. The pool is wonderful and has lots of features. I love how they have a dry sauna and a steam room. The workout room has a ton of cool things to do and its super up to date. I go every week and its awesome.
Nice pool, not too cold or hot and basketball court not bad either
Great place to work out.... kid zone loves me baby what can I say and he loves going too. That's saying a hell of lot. Kids don't hide there feelings now on the other hand front staff could be a little bit more friendly but other than that the place is Awesomesauce!
Always clean! Very friendly!
Love the hot tub!
Great place to join for the whole family! We love it!!
One of the best facilities in the city
Great facilities
This place has so much potential. The facilities are great. Unfortunately, it is the staff that makes it a bad buy. There is always about 5 people standing at the desk in the evening loitering around. Please do not ask questions because thus is just a summer job for them (all year around)
Great place for kids. My kids love the Rock climbing wall. The pong table seems popular. I love the indoor walking track and steam sauna.
My daughter is in a swim class on Saturday mornings and she really enjoys it and likes her teacher. She had also made new friends.
Probably the best YMCA not funded by the Koch brothers!!
Facility great but not clean, men's locker rooms filthy and the swimsuit dryer leaks water all over the floor and smells bad. I stopped using it, very disappoint.
Been a YMCA member for over 20 years so this rating is my first. I love the kids night out and the childcare. That along with the small water park that is part of the pool sold me on my membership. The complaint I have is just about every time I have taken my family to the indoor pool the slide has been closed due to never having adequate lifeguards... or so that’s what they’ve told me for 3 years now. We have gone on days that the kids are off school and still not open. The kids are so excited to play on this equipment when they come through the door. It is a complete let down when they are told it’s NEVER open. It’s what I consider a bait and switch. These amenities along with the rock wall (that seems to be closed the majority of the time) are part of the sales pitch to get you in the door, however you can seldom utilize the benefit from them. One experience my family had at the pool was when my husband and two daughters were in the shallow play area. The life guards roped off just about the whole area for swim lessons. I took my girls out to the more open area of the pool to swim with me and to play in the bubbler. I was immediately reprimanded and told by the life guard that I needed an adult for each child, that each child could only be at arms reach?! I looked around and their was a Middle Eastern lady with 7 children ranging from about 12 down to 1 standing on the side of the pool in full dress as her children played freely in the pool with no one in arms reach and with NO wrist bands. She was vigilant. (In order to get a swimmers wrist band you have to swim the full length of the pool without stopping!) The female children had long pants on... street clothes in the pool. I let the lifeguard know that both of my girls were fine and that I was teaching them to swim.(How do you teach them to swim a whole length of the pool when you can’t even work with them to swim to you?) It is impossible when you have to be in arms reach. It’s an absolute joke. The life guard at that time asked me and my girls to get out of the pool. I thought there was some sort of mistake so I spoke with the manager over the lifeguards and explained to her that I didn’t appreciate being treated like an irresponsible parent. I tried discussing with the manager the situation with the other woman with the 7 kids and that I did not understand how they are able to make an exception for this lady but others have to abide by this unrealistic rule. My husband and I both tried to get answers but were told these rules were put in place for safety. The more I insisted on answers regarding the other family the more she resisted. It was like she was programmed to repeat the rules that didn’t apply to everyone. Not a warm person. I pointed out the children in pants and dresses In the pool. Not only is that unsafe as the material could hinder their ability to swim but all of the outdoor contaminants these garments are adding to the pool making it unsafe for others..They merely singled us out that day and humiliated my family. We have not been back as a family in months which is sad. They should value the families who come to this facility. So parents with more than 2 kids can’t swim? Not a welcoming facility. I continue to monitor the pool amenities along with the rock wall. If they are closed on a continuous bases I will consider My options. These amenities are part of each members membership. We pay for them. Life guards should be there to over see swimmers not to harass parents who want to spend family time in the pool. Management should focus more energy on properly training lifeguards & leave parenting to parents. You shouldn’t penalize everyone for someone else’s mistakes. Provide more lifeguards if need be to cover your membership or reduce the number of members, but by all means show some dignity to those of us who just want to play in the pool with our kids! By treating parents like they are not responsible and by placing restrictions such as these on them is a complete insult to all of your guest. Not fair to families.
Staff is great, place is clean.
Nice, new, clean gym in the area. Love the pool area with slide and separate baby area. Helpful staff will find the answer for you if they don't know it. The kids sports are great, my daughter has been doing girls basketball for a couple seasons now and its a great program with practices once a week and a game once a week also.
I work in kid zone at this YMCA & I love going to work . The staff is great, the kids are awesome! I love my job! Come to the nkc YMCA if you want a great place to workout & take your kiddo for free for 2 hrs while working out. They are well taken care of!
They have a swimming lesson program that is one of the best I have encountered. I have three boys of various ages and all have a good time.
We went there for a Birthday Party. Really good Community Center to host Party's for Children.
I like it.The staff is really nice and helpful.I like the going upstairs punching the punching bag.Excercise and swimming
Wonderful gym with nice upgrade.
Good gym.
Clean good atmosphere
Nice equipment but not enough it's always busy you have to wait your turn to use whatever you want
This location has improved since its days as a community center. Thank you YMCA!
My daughter took swimming lessons this summer. They were well managed and she had a blast! I highly recommend their swim classes!
Just became members...we have only been once because there are a LOT of children so forget about basketball. But we will go again soon.
Great place to get a pump in or to relax poolside
Great place for all ahes
Good gym
This is a good peaceful ymca.I love the machines. They only have one problem. When they cleaned the pool area they took the big jets out of hot tub.Now it sucks big time. They need to put the jets back.Parkville has a nice hot tub with good jets.I love the peaceful atmosphere here better.I dont want to go to parkville but i have a bad back so who knows.I would give 5 stars if they fix this.I have went here for 3 years so i would hate to leave and go somewhere else.
The best Y on the KC area. The facility is beautiful, spread out, with room, machines, and a track enough for everyone. I found their free weights to be lacking in some increments and kind of old, but other than that it’s a beautiful place to work out.
Pool, climbing wall, sauna, steam room & plenty of workout equipment. Something for the whole family!
The best I have seen
Great place and free classes. Silver sneakers for seniors
Hands down, the best smelling hand soap of any gym I've been to. Like Jolly Ranchers and Sunshine. Could be 5 stars but too many kids and dangerously-old people in the free weight area.
They have it all! Pool, equipment, classes of all kinds, for all fitness levels.
This YMCA HAS SILVER SNEAKERS. IT HAS IT ALL , SWIMMING, YOGA, ETC.
I great place to swim, exercise, and partake in community activities and at an affordable price.
Great place to work out in to swim. Also has sauna and steam room. Very friendly staff.
Pool is alright. Facilities were semi clean. Life guards are too strict. My 6yr had to put on a life jacket to play in the 1' deep kiddie pool area because he wasn't staying arms length away from me.
I wish the slide would open in the pool. They said it's a staffing issue and it's been like this for a year or more. Other than that it is our favorite ymca for customer service! Pool could use a good cleaning.
Nice be carefull some how people our getting there lockers open the some body stills the charge card
Went a watched a wheelchair Rugby tournament there with my son who has CP. Easily accessible and very clean place
This is a very large facility with multi use pool, climb wall, etc. Offers many many classes, plus Silver Sneakers for seniors. A real community center. It is the voting spot for all residents of North Kansas City. Lots of parking.
Very good
Super huge and friendly staff. The pool offers plenty of space and enjoyment to
Nice people, good place to enjoy exercise!
This YMCA in NKC has really welcomed my kids in to the community here. Tang (I think is his name) has really made my special needs child feel so included which if anyone who has a disabled child knows, this makes a parent more happy than anything b/c we all want our children to feel equal. They have also made my other children feel very comfortable too. My youngest son has learned to swim as well which makes me feel like he'll be safe around water & that ALWAYS helps a parents nervousness.
Clean. Great amenities. Friendly staff. Pool always has lanes available. Steam room and dry sauna. Great place to work out
Great place..full facility.. everything you need is there and the staff is so helpful...thanks YMCA
great facility
Great amount of workout equipment and free weights. The pool is great for your kids, it has a giant play area with shallow warm water. The locker rooms are very nice and have all the amenities you could need.
Has everything
I remember going here when I was younger and it used to be the spot! But now not as many people go here. It has a great work out area and all other facilities. It just doesn't attract as many people anymore. If you're thinking about going don't be alone expecting to find people there all the time.. To could be disappointed.
Super-friendly staff and knowledgeable instructors, a wide variety of engaging classes, always available exercise equipment, and (most importantly for us!) a kid’s zone. We should’ve become members sooner!
Currently under construction. Locker rooms were nice and they have a steam room and a sauna. Everything was clean. The staff unfortunately were pretty rude. They didn't smile and were not accommodating.
The young lady spoke with was not very friendly didn't show me around at all will not be going there
I have been to YMCAs of 12 states as a travelling salesman, and this is thr crown jewel of Midwest
Nice facility.
Staff is always very pleasant and helpful and equipment is clean. Just wish they could take better care of the building - peeling mouldy paint in the showers, broken faucets, amenities like the pool unusable for weeks while awaiting repairs.
This center is so clean and we'll managed. Staff is good and my son has one of the best coaches I have ever meet from the YMCA.
Remodel brings this gym in sync with fitness trends.. I love it!
Today me and my family came to enjoy a day at the pool and play some basketball when we arrived at the pool an older woman begin taking pictures of me. Me and my wife ask her why the heck she was taking pictures of us and she said it was because I was in the FBI she was obviously mentally unstable and begin ranting and saying crazy things I approached one of the lifeguards and ask him to deal with it he went and got his supervisor the supervisor came and informed me that the lady has had many problems there before and told me that I need to keep away from her and that if there continue to be a problem that she would ask all of us to leave. I was very confused why I was accosted by this unstable woman and then told I did something wrong the supervisor's name was Rachel and she is the Aquatic supervisor she miss handled this very badly the woman took pictures of me and my children in bathing suits and she was allowed to stay even though it is against YMCA policy to take photographs of people I am very upset and doubt I will ever go to this YMCA again.
Great for swim lessons. They do well with beginners.
Great place to workout and swim
They have something for you to do everyday and there's always something fun to do there
Great gym
Love this YMCA. It has a lot of amenities. The Zumba on Saturday and Sunday are great. I consider it the most equip Y in Kansas City.
What a clean YMCA. Staff is friendly and helpful. Really enjoy the classes offered. The YMCA IS for the community and this Y makes alot of effort to be community focused.
amazing place to workout, and swim.
Beautiful facilites with all the amenities you could imagine.
Amazing facility! I would recommend this Y to everyone!
I think it's always busy but it's also great. They have tons of classes. I just wish there was more lap time in the pool.
Awesome and friendly staff. We go here regularly with the kids from a school I work at. Very accommodating
Friendly and inviting front desk staff. Love the steam and sauna room!
Has really went downhill!!!! Over packed and they took out a hole basketball court and rent out courts and always have two many people and showers are always out of order. There is just always something broken. Used to love coming here before ymca took over
This YMCA is our favorite in the metro area that we've been to (out of 4 total). The atmosphere is so welcoming, and they go to great efforts to include ALL members of the community with greetings in 2 dozen languages written on the walls and a resource table near the welcome desk filled with activities, free courses, legal resources, ESL opportunities. This YMCA is the most diverse in every sense, and we love bringing our kid to meet all the fun staff and kiddos at the Kid Zone. Amazing equipment, the cleanest and most modern facility we've seen, and a recent remodel. Loads of classes. Huge and clean locker rooms (including a family locker room), and the only YMCA in town with a sauna let alone a steam room, too. Flexible hours, awesome facility, and great staff.
Excellent facility! Great aquatic center, and the fitness area is top notch. Can't wait to see what the remodel brings.
I was here to work a career fair 4 oak Park high School for seniors
No excuses for not being physically active when you join this YMCA. Family oriented with various activities for everyone of all ages and sizes.
Recently moved here from out of state. After also visiting a few gyms and YMCA locations north of the river, we have picked the North KC location as our favorite. The folks that spend time here seem to reflect more diversity and friendliness than other places we've been in the area. Husband enjoys the fitness facilities upstairs and I like the group classes. The class instructors are high quality without being overbearing.
Love this place. So much to offer but they're hours of operation sucks
Lots of things to do .nice place to go for excerise or walk.
They keep it simple so I can do what I came to do, work out.
MY QUALITY OF LIFE HAS SKYROCKETED THRU THE HEAVENS, SINCE JOINING & PARTICIPATING IN WATER CLASSES!!!
Great Y! Lots of equipment and basketball courts. Only 4 swim lanes though. They are doing upgrades on the building right now. Always a ➕
This is the nicest YMCA facility I have visited in the KC metro. The aquatics department is versatile and well kept up. Plenty of activities for people of all ages. Caters to a diverse community of people from NKC as well as the northeast portion of KCMO.
Enjoy going to this location. It is always clean and I love the variety of classes offered and the kid zone!
Love the variety of classes at both NKC and Platte County South. Especially enjoy the great workouts I get in Beth’s classes!! Such a motivational instructor and always has great music in class.
Love this place
Clean....Family Friendly atmosphere.....Plenty to offer in latest tech on physical health as well as community support and outreach
Excellent place. Awsome service. David at the front desk took good care of me and my wife. Highly recommend.
Great Y!
We enrolled our 3 year old daughter in the swim program. She was the smallest and least experienced in her class, but the instructors worked with her very diligently. They are very dedicated to teaching children water safety and learning to swim. Thank you!
Great facility, very fun pool area for the kids.
Great spot to work out. Fantastic facilities. Wonderful childcare.
Horrible experience today at The YMCA. A lady was recording my family in the pool area. That's not okay with me and I brought it to the attention of the Aquatics Director Rachel Brame. She admitted that they have had problems with the lady in the past. Yet, she wasn't apologetic, didn't do anything to rectify the situation and even threatened to make us leave. Brame has zero tact and should have never gotten to the position she is in. Brame is obviously in the wrong line of work.. If you don't care about people, then don't work at The Y.
A nice place to go alot of people clean good enviroment
Great place to workout, isn't too packed mid day like most gyms. Friendly atmosphere and plenty to do both gyms have basketball or pickleball going on most days. I hope to workout here for as long as I work in north kansas city!
Awesome location!! Love coming here with my family. So far no complaints.
Truly a facility for all people young and old. Excellent facility
They have a deal that gives 3 free visits. That's nice of them to do, however we just came for the pool for my kids and most of the time the kids area was closed and the whole time the big slide was closed. Those were reasons I brought them. Very disappointed. It was pretty boring for my little one and the only reason my older ones had fun was because they made friends to play with.
Easy to access from the local byways. Floor plan is well thought out and separates excersise from activity (pool/gymnasium) space well. Very friendly neighborhood and staff. If you want calories before or after the visit the local venues are decent.
Great swimming pool area, complete with water slide, whirlpool, lazy river, and other waterpark features. There is even a water slide for little kids. Indoor walking track, rock climbing wall, and more. This is the first location in KCMO to have on-site food. Ruby Jean's Juicery inside. They have a wonderful selection of nutritious food that tastes great.
This YMCA isn't like the other ones. It has everything you need!
