I like the staff. However, the conditions of the club are really bad. Mold in the showers, excessive dust in all the vents, dirt and grime around all the walls and under equipment,, etc. They do have a plan to remodel and it will start in the Spring. I have the confidence it will become a great club. Until then, it's one of the worst.

I was charged double for my gym membership and been working to resolve the issue for over a month. While Darcy, the club’s manager, has been very polite, the rest of the staff has not. I sent the request “proof” over to Darcy who forwarded it on to the billing department. I called back again today to check on the status, and the gentlemen who answered my call said he had “no recollection of a billing department.” When I asked to be transferred to someone else who could help me, he said there was no one who could help and that he wasn’t sure what do. This shouldn’t surprise me, because friends tried telling me NOT to sign up with Genesis because I’m their experience, the staff was less than helpful. The gym has been updated beautifully (other than a really gross pool) so I took a chance over using another gym. I’m starting to regret this, especially since my incorrect charge still hasn’t been resolved. If a helpful staff and accurate billing is important to you, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

It's a good place BUT the daycare needs better hours and I feel like I'm already paying an arm and a leg to be a member I shouldn't have to pay more for someone to watch my kid for an HR or less. Also the pool is nasty I like to swim that's my work out but the bottom of that pool

Throw the whole gym away horrible horrible service and communication skills between employees on site and corporate i never had an issue with billing until they made they horrible switch June 15th... they blame the card i had on file so i switched it like three times after multiple calls and complaints i was told don’t worry about it from the on-site ops manager that they will get it worked out just continue to come then the next was well it’s independence issue not ours what but y’all billed my cards every time i switched it i hate the service wish they never changed it now I’m stuck with a 400.00 bill due to they horrible service broken promises and lies

Pretty good. Glad to see upgraded equipment for aerobic exercise. Wish some of the weight machines would be upgraded. Often find equipment out of service. This location does not have upgraded locker room facilities like several other Genesis Club locations in the KC area. Although there is an effort to keep locker room clean, this area still looks dingy.

Be VERY careful before committing to their contract. Educate yourself before signing their membership/personal training contract. Like any business, they are money driven, and will bleed you dry if your personal plans change.

I love this gym. I’ve gone to this location for a long time and during the last days of 24 hour fitness being in charge it got kind of sketchy. However I’m very happy I stuck it out, Genesis totally turned it around. In the short time that Genesis has taken over they have made a lot of improvement and more are coming. The best so far are the outstanding locker rooms. Huge, clean and very modern, I love the keyless locks. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also you can't beat this location, super easy to stop by Trader Joe's or Target right after my workouts.

This has been my gym since before Genesis owned it, so I’ve seen it go through it’s ups and downs, but overall everything is always working properly and the team is there to help if needed. And I’m pumped that they are finally renovating the place, it definitely needed it.

Great equipment and space that includes things like kettlebells, boxes, battle ropes, etc, for people interested in functional workouts (vs. traditional weight lifting). The locker room is always clean and well lit. The regulars are friendly, but focused.

Staffs are very friendly to my friends and family members when I brought them and showed them around or let them try the club for a week. The club is always maintained clean , and I rarely saw towels being left messy around. Towels are always supplied. People are nice and classy. Great indoor tennis, clean swimming pool, wonderful Jacuzzi, and active tennis leagues, and of course, always free HOT COFFEE!

I’ve been going to this gym for over a year now. Previously I was at the Overland Park location. This gym is smaller and feels cramped, which they are working to fix right now with a huge upgrade and construction. It’s looking pretty good, so I’m excited to see it. They have really stepped it up cleanliness-wise, which was a comment I had made to them before, so I’m glad they’re listening. The only issue I have is that streaming music is a nightmare because there is no WiFi and my signal gets low in various parts of the gym. Once construction is done, and if they can manage some WiFi in there, it would be a really great gym.

I joined this club in March of 2017. It is a perfect location for me as it's close to work. And if I can't make it during those hours, it has awesome child care as well. The current renovations are almost complete and the gym looks awesome. Can't wait to see it finished and get to use it to it's full potential!

I work out at this location almost every day during the work week. I'm a weightlifter and I find the variety of equipment to be very good and the condition of the equipment to be good. I've seen some broken things on occasion but I can't honestly blame the club as I've noticed a few weightlifters abusing things (dropping weights, leaving weights on the floor and machines, etc.). The staff are always very friendly and courteous. The weight machines are always clean as well. The only thing I don't really like is that the showers seem a bit awkward. I haven't noticed any shower curtains on them, and call me a prude but in today's digital age I'm hesitant to shower in public in full nude because internet.

I shouldn't be paying full price and a full on sign-up fee to deal with limited hours and construction and outright closures. The equipment for the last month I've been a member is...used...as the best way to put it. I'm looking forward to the new stuff and have seen the renderings, so hopefully that comes about quickly. The staff is nice. Not sure there are any actual trainers at this location, at least certified. Definitely haven't seen anyone on staff so far I trust to spot me. With all that said, the location is great for me and the hope is that all of the hassle and hour restrictions and closures and everything else like limited water, no towels, etc. is finally resolved as we enter the new year. It's unfortunate that my membership at my last gym expired before this location was done with the remodel, but I guess it's almost done so there's that. Staying positive.

Ever since I joined I have more energy and stamina. Before I would be tired all the time and ache everywhere. My therapist and my doctor are very pleased and proud of me doing exercises to get me back in shape; I'm even losing weight. When I started I weighed 277 lbs, now I'm at 247 lbs. I love all the different machines and the classes that are offered. I also like being able to go at all times of the day and different gyms around the area.

My gym has multiple workout areas, each with a variety of machines, stations, stretching areas, etc. The equipment is in great working order and I rarely have difficulty getting to the machine I want, even during peak hours. I also love the towel service and the complimentary personal hygeine products provided in the locker room/bathroom.

Gym is under construction. It is quite messy, the only women's restroom is closed, there is extremely loud construction noise constantly. Would STRONGLY recommend you go to a different gym. Will not return here

My wife and I were members and regular attendees at this facility for three years. At first it was owned by 24 Hour Fitness and we had no problems. This location has since converted into a Genesis Health Club and been renovated. I'm not sure if they advertise more heavily or what, but the place is always packed now. We go at 5:30 in the morning and decided to cancel our membership after waiting over and over for 10+ minutes to use the power racks. We opted to skip the hassle of waiting for people who do curls and bench presses in the power racks and build a home gym instead. Best decision we ever made for our fitness. Friends of ours complained that Genesis jacked up their rates, but we never saw that happen. The front desk staff were always helpful. It does seem like in the last year many pieces of equipment developed tears in the padding. I attribute this to the same reason we cancelled our membership, too many people using equipment without enough care taken by the owner to maintain it. Be warned that like most gyms, this place has terms and conditions for membership that are a mile long. We were told at time of signing that there were no annual fees outside of the regular monthly payment. Lo and behold, we were charged annual fees each year. When we decided to cancel, they charged us the next month's membership fees even though we had no interest in ever attending the gym again. Do yourself a favor and find a smaller gym if you cannot build at home.

Update- wifi was installed a couple weeks ago. It works great. The recent and long overdue renovation is a significant improvement. Feels like a high end gym now. The surprising thing is that there is no cable tv in the cardio room. There are half a dozen TV's to watch but they are not on cable. They are Over the air with poor reception. I'm also surprised that they didn't install a Wifi network.

My husband and I sign up here but every time he went to the gym he found some racist person being a jerk. I never received my email confirmation when you first sign up but the moment I wanted to cancel my membership they reply fast with paperwork that had my signature on and why I couldn't cancel. They want me to pay $200 to be able to cancel the contract. I sign up to pay certain amount every month but within two months they were charging me more than what we agreed on. They are racist and don't really care about their customers.

I have to say, this can only be a positive move for this particular gym. It's a dump, & has been in need of deep cleaning & updating for a long time. Rusty, torn, & odorous equipment is not what anyone wants to work out with. I am looking forward to a much better environment to work out in.....very soon I hope. I even stopped going & joined another gym that is MUCH cleaner. I haven't completely given up though. Still paying for it....again, hoping to go back to a cleaner, brighter facility.

I am very excited to see the improvements happening at this gym. Right now, the main reason I go to the Ward Parkway location is because Kate Crockett is the absolute BEST cycle instructor in town. She gives her heart and soul to every class, and I leave drenched thanks to her fantastic workouts. Getting new bikes will be a HUGE improvement that I very much look forward to, along with the additional upgrades that gym desperately deserves.

I love the atmospheric environment created by the members. It is a picture of a community of people who have the same goal in mind. That alone warrants five stars, but billing issues (husband and I got our membership together, yet we pay different prices), unprofessional staff and the fact that we are paying full membership fees and do not have full access to the club (no pool, no restrooms, not 24 hrs, no sauna or steam room) renders 2 stars. Yes, we were offered to go to other locations, but most of us chose our club according to personal convince. Again, awesome environment!!!

Literally just read a review that is similar to mine, I turned in military orders to cancel my membership because my wife and I were moving to California due to her orders and they are still charging me after I went in and talked to a manager and he told me everything was good, then I get charged a month later and I call and repeat the process over the phone with a different manager who tells me that member services will email me before the end of the week with directions on getting my refund. Guess what? No email so I call today and THEY STILL HAVE ME AS A MEMBER! I had to email them orders once again, and now I’m praying I get my 50 dollars back. Guy today the “club manager” said the same thing as the last guy but no email about a refund yet. If everyone that cancels their membership with legitimate reasons has these problems, you guys should really fix it instead of lying and telling them everything is taken care of but then they look at their bank account and they are still getting charged.

LOVE going to Turbo Kick with Kristen on Monday nights - that class is killer (in a good way) and I always feel like I’m starting the week off on a good note. Of all the Genesis gyms I go to (usually Metcalf Super Sport or Shawnee if I’m not at award), this one definitely need a facelift the most - which it’s getting and should be done any day now! Excited to see the improvements. The staff is very friendly and the instructors are awesome. Recommend Genesis all the time to my friends!

Everyone is so nice and attentive here. My trainer Kendra Dougherty has been amazing! She is very aware of some problems with knees and back and we work around them to help me succeed. I just signed up for 12 more hour personal training sessions with her. I feel at home and not out of place with the fit people that go here. I will be glad when the remodel is done though

I read the yelp reviews and was still considering checking it out myself, despite the low ratings. Just got off the phone with a guy who didn’t know the information on his website and was arguing with me. I’m not a idiot. I’m former military and was on my way to become a certified personal trainer...he was patronizing when I asked him questions he was unprepared to answer. He told me the gym didn’t offer youth programs, even after I read it directly from the website to him. When I asked about the indoor running track, he told me they didn’t have one but have “plenty of cardio equipment” (anyone who is a runner realizes my frustration). Glad I had a conversation before heading in.

This place has a bunch of people at the ward Parkway location that are always staring at you doing nothing it’s over crowded already and to see some employees wandering around like stray dogs in the street is a distraction.... and some of the female employees are condescending with answers to questions it’s small and they are charging $47 a month for using gym equipment to stay healthy.... this place is a joke because it’s partially racist headquarters proved to me why I cancelled my membership and don’t recommend this racist over priced gym to anyone they suck worst than planet fitness but at least planet fitness is global....

Club is currently going through a lot of construction, but despite this, they have remained open and accommodated clients and users needs. The staff are friendly, especially Greg. The sauna and steam room are a great feature. Even during peak hours I am still able to get through my workout in a timely manner.

Fairly good place to work out. 24 hrs is unbeatable. Has basically all you need. Nice stuffs and helpful coaches. Go there 3 to 4 times a week. The only thing upsets me is the remolding which takes too long but I fully understand and I can not wait seeing what it looks after the major work.

This gym can best be described as a dump I have been working out here since I was in high school and the gym just opened. Today, nearly all of the weight lifting equipment is the same, and has not had the proper maintenance completed to keep it working properly. They have recently upgraded the cardio equipment, and it is nice. However, many of the capable weight machines "stick" making the weight hard to pull. Machines sit brocken for weeks, including a squat rack in the back right corner which has a safety bar permanently stuck it in that management has completely ignored. Many machines originally had 5lb weights that could be added to the weight stack, but those broke years ago and management still has yet to replace them. Those are only some of the many issues with the gym. The bathrooms are the stuff of nightmares: shower drains don't work properly, it is dirty, lockers are old and unkept. I understand that Genesis only recently bought this property. However, they have made empty promises while closing other gyms around that they also purchased. The only interest Genesis has is signing up more people, and using new sign-up money to hire more sales people so that the cycle continues. I will not be at this gym long if things do not improve.

You can’t charge the prices you do and have the issues you do in your Kansas City area gyms. I am getting pretty fed up with genesis as a whole, but my frustration came after a visit to the ward parkway location on 2/3. I went for a swim tonight after work. The first thing I see is this massive counter where i guess I can order a smoothie among other things. Also sitting on the “check-in” portion of the desk was a sign, saying only one small towel and one large towel. I was handed, very nicely I might add, one flimsy towel. How I shower, swim and maybe go to the steam room with only one flimsy towel? I don’t i leave, which I did. I can not believe this is what is expected.

Although the gym has been renovated. There are a lot of worn down machines with rips in the upholstery. Members are charged a $39 yearly club maintenance fee and it doesn't seem like it is being utilized efficiently. Also, the cleaning crew does not do a thorough job of cleaning the facility. There are dust bunnies, crumbs and hair balls around most machines and the cross fit turf. The locker room carpets are brown with club traffic and need to be shampooed. When these concerns were brought to the management no changes were made. If you care about cleanliness pick another gym.

They ripped me off. Gave them my card info and account number and all that.. Turns out they never took any money out of my account. And ended up sueing me for their mistake.. They ended up charging me 2800 for a 2 year contract.. Inused the facility for about a month or 2 then moved outta state due to family purposes. My brother never got no mail from then until they came to knock on his door about the sue.. Made me go back to kc just to go to a court that could have been settled if they had took their 50 or 55 dollar monthly fee..

On hold for over 20 min just to be told that i need to call corporate to cancel. Then they put me on hold again for over 10 min to find corporate number. Hung up called a different genesis and was helped immediately but was told by corporate id have to cancel with written requests in the gym. gym itself is fine but the staff is undertrained or dont care

The group classes are top notch and are better than any other gyms have to offer all included for the price. The best part is the remodeling, just wait until it's done. I believe this Genesis is probably one of the nicer ones, since they've done reconstruction. Ever since Genesis has taken over, I feel all the Genesis gyms have went downhill. My biggest issue is the towels to wipe down the machine should always be disposable towels, not cotton towels. 9 times out of 10 when I go to get a towel, there are none out. Wiping a machine with a filthy, sweaty cotton towel doesn't sound smart either. Put the paper towels back up!! Overall the gym has good equipment and is fairly nice. Some of the trainers there aren't very knowledgeable, so be careful with that area. I give this gym 3

This gym is awful. I voiced my concerns over the lack of cleaning especially in the mens bathroom which stunk and seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. They were more than happy to cancel my membership with for a buyout. Great collect monthly fees and don't bother cleaning the gym. Spoke to their corporate office and stated the same thing. Not one time would they entertain my concerns. Another gym that only cares about collecting fees

The workout here is cool but the staff sucks... Other than the kids area... They will push you to get things you don't need and don't explain the contract with you. As soon as you walk in the door they force you to interact with the door "security" to scan your badge. It's very unprofessional!

So I used to come here all the time. I got a job in the kids club and now I regret it because my opinion has changed drastically . I’m disappointed in this place, it’s unprofedional, it’s unclean, and I will be canceling my genesis membership all together once I finish out my two Weeks. As a mother I’m not sure I could recommend any genesis to you! They have no standards through the city or state and no inspections or regulations when it comes to sanitation’s or guidelines. Like i said, i used to love coming here but after being an employee I’m pretty turned off. The managers child doesn’t even send her kid into the kids club! He stays in the back office with her all day, that has to tell you something.

it's a great place but customer service is terrible. a lady at the front desk was completely rude to me and my friends. I can't believe genesis allows customer service like this. I'm reporting this higher up the chain link.

I have been at Genesis for a short time, my experience has been good so far. My personal trainer is awesome, the front desk staff always greets me with a smile, the water aerobics instructor is great, she keeps it moving. The saunas are not cleaned often enough, neither the dressing room.

After Genesis bought 24 Hour Fitness prices went up, promised improvements have not happened, & the gym is even dirtier. Today there was no soap in the men's locker room. We shouldn't have to ask for basics like soap.

Great place to go and workout. I haven't had many experiences with the staff but they seem really nice for the most part. Can get really really busy around 5:30pm on weekdays and 10am on Weekends, and it would be nice to either cap the number of guests at a certain amount or give incentives to people who have had long memberships that have to endure the seasonal people (The new year resolution-ers). Only reason I give a 4 instead of 5 is due to the disgusting bathrooms and lack of maintenance.

I have only been to two other Genesis Health Club locations and have only reviewed one other location, which feel free to read that post. The ward parkway location is where it all started for me, back when it was a 24 hour fitness. Things have remained relatively the same since the buy out, but i cannot attest to the rates (I've heard they've gone up). This gym may not be flashy, or have the newest equipment, or the biggest space but its purpose is stronger than most. It has everything I need as a predominately weight lifting gym goer. They've got several racks on hand, although a bit snug, you aren't always combating for a spot on a rack (after work hours tend to be the busiest). They have an aerobic room which they do host several classes in, a separate bike room as well as an upstairs basketball court. In addition to floor space, they provide a pool and hot tub, a steam room, sauna and a kids area. The staff is friendly, the trainers seem very nice, and I've only had one issue with another customer but has since been dissolved. I'd say this is a great gym for what you get, given it's age and location. There is plenty of cardio equipment (bar the stairmasters as they are pretty popular and there was only 3 but they've added another) and depending on when you go you don't need to wait around to get a machine. My only nitpicking issues for not giving it a full 5 stars would have to be cleanliness and maybe lighting. Sometimes the towel dispensers remain empty for long periods of time causing me to go to the other dispensers hoping they aren't empty either (I do sweat A LOT) because I do like to wipe down the machines I use before and after use(as everyone should!!). The lights are decent but there are some really dark areas of the gym (this is a very minor complaint) Overall, I always tend to come to this gym even after visiting their "super sport" locations. I ranted a little about those in my other review of another club I went to. This gym to me sticks out among the rest and I always look forward to coming back!

This gym isn't that great...NOTHING has changed besides the price they charge new comers since they bought out 24hr fitness...the sign hasn't even changed to genesis! Equipment is always out of order...they say it's a luxury gym....luxury where!? Only go here because it's 24hrs and I live two blocks away.

Trainers are awesome and knowledgeable. Adequate amount of machines and areas to life, even for rush-hour. Complete and utter oversight of health conditions within the gym and I am not the only one who has noticed. Severe lack of cleaning, especially in the showers, BLACK MOLD ISSUES. Even after cleaning, there is still residue left near the bottom. I am sensitive and am unable to use the facility due to health concerns that arise while showering... This is something no gym-goer should ever have to worry about.

I first gave this club a bad rating due to them getting rid of the basketball court. I received a email then a call from a representative that was very nice and what the did changed my whole perspective of this gym. They fixed my membership in a manner that I didn't think was possible. Now I will never leave genesis. Best club I've ever been apart of. Thank you! Since Genesis took over from 24hr Fitness it has a different feel to it. The cleanliness of the gym has gone down the drain. 2 stars for the decent customer service. I had been a member of 24hr fitness since the spring of 2013. I never got any kind of notification that Genesis was taking over and i recently decided to cancel my membership. I am currently looking to join planet fitness.

I really appreciate that you have kept the Independence and Ward Parkway locations 24 hour. These 2 Genesis Gyms are very convenient locations (shop , see a movie squeeze in a work out etc), both are well equipped and offer wet areas. The staff is friendly , and greet you coming and leaving. Genesis would gain another star had the not closed the North Oak location. The 24 hour concept/convient locations/ AFFORDABLE memberships are the reasons I keep renewing year after year.

I understand other Kansas City area locations have free WIFI. Our location needs WIFI. The men's locker room has desperately needed a makeover for years now. Otherwise, the machines are generally in good working condition. The weight area is kept picked up and you don't hold the TRX hostage. Free WIFI is a must, though. Seriously.

Won a 30 day free pass and even after I have told them that I would call them when I was ready to join. Every 2-3 days they call, sometimes twice a day (including a text). Someone else can definitely take my 30 day free pass! I don't like being constantly called! I mean it seems as though their being desperate for new clients and I for one don't appreciate all the phone calls!

Gym has everything I need in it and a big selling point is the sauna. The staff is also always nice. They are currently going through renovations so I'm really excited to see what it'll be like after wards. Only bad note now is it's kind of crammed because all the work out equipment and cardio equipment is on one floor but I think this may be resolved after the renovations.

Genesis is a decent gym. However, I joined when it was still 24 hour fitness in the Midwest. I move a lot due to being military, and I'm pretty sure I won't be a 24 hour fitness member anymore if I move somewhere where they still exist, so I don't like that aspect of it. Having kids clubs is a good idea however I wish the kids clubs had better weekend hours. If I choose to sleep in on the weekend I can't go to the gym because kids club will have closed when I get there.

I want to write you and voice my love for the cycling classes this location provides. By the instructor, Kate, I was encouraged to invest in cycling shoes. I’m so happy I did. Had I not been told, I’m sure I would’ve gone months or years without knowing. I've been a member since January 2017 and did take the opportunity to visit many of the classes you offer. Which again, very thankful and all have their part! However, cycling is the one that’s stuck. I started with Kate’s class at 5:30am. I’m thrilled to be a part of the class. I love that she knows my name, has different song categories, encourages me and has amazing workouts! I honestly can’t believe I look forward to waking up that early for class. I’m adulting, ugh! I’ve been coming to Deborah’s class on Wednesdays lately and really love her style of class too! It’s hard to go to those three classes within 72 hours, but they do such a great job, I can’t stay away. It seems on Mondays you are still looking for that instructor but hope to give it a shot too. Thank you again for hiring passionate people that enjoy their job and make it enjoyable to workout again. It’s a wonderful cardio exercise that I’m so grateful you carry at your gym. **ALSO HUGE SHOUT OUT TO GREGORY ON OVERNIGHTS** He's got the best smile to see at 4:30am and has amazing customer service. When Genesis takes over a gym all maintenance stops. No new equipment arrives. Even the website stops getting updates. Love showing up AFTER checking there site to make sure their open, only to find they closed early in observance of Arbor Day. I expect they will go belly up like Gold's, Bally, ect.

My experience with this gym has been up and down. Let me start by saying the staff has always been helpful and provided a positive environment. But over the first 6 months of our membership, 5 of those months we were billed incorrectly causing quite the headache. Next our location went under construction where the locker rooms began to be renovated. For several weeks there was no restroom available to members and we were directed to leave the building and go to a neighboring store to use their rest room. I found that to be ridiculous. I do enjoy this gym, but for the amount we pay every month for our 3 year contract, I feel as though these should not be issues we should have to be concerned with.

Most of the staff is really friendly, especially compared to the previous owners. The prices are just about reasonable. The only drawbacks are the lack of public Wi-Fi, the charging ports on the treadmills aren't working and the treadmills and TVs aren't always in sync when you plug in your earbuds. Out of the 3 of those issues, the Wi-Fi is most important. The closer you get to the back of the club, the weaker your cell connection is. Wi-Fi would allow customers to continue to stream music, TV or movies. I love that the environmental services are always working to keep it clean. They do a great job. I would love to have a few more paper towel/cleaning bottle stations around the facility to make it easier for DNA clean up. Even with all of those issues, the environment is still great, fun, easy and familiar.

When it was 24 hr. Fitness it was run better. It has never been a very clean place in over 2 years. Now you can't swim in the pool and should avoid the hot tub. Pool has filth floating all over the bottom and has been blocked off, more than its been open. Don't walk barefoot in the locker rooms. They told us when rates raised when Genisis took over, it would be better. Maybe they need to re-evaluate that statement. Being regulars (3-5 times a week) we've watched most other regulars find a new place to work out. We will be doing the same at the end of this month. The people at night at Ward Parkway are ok, but the leadership is lacking. Their accounting practices are atrocious, as well. Don't waste your money. Go somewhere else! Leaving 1 star for the people who work at night. They're good people. Nothing else gets any! Very disappointed.

Mixed bag and I'd honestly wait to see how reviews come back on the Genesis pricing schema to see if there are going to be hidden fees, etc. I can tell you this though, I've been using this specific facility for the last 2.5 years and the equipment was upgraded before genesis bought out 24hr fitness. The only thing Genesis has done so far has been introduce a new pricing schema for new members. That and remove the handy fingerprint scanners 24hr fitness used as ID verification. Now you get to keep track of another keychain pet! If you lose it, they're usually out of replacements too. One thing Genesis did do right was keep a lot of the original staff. A lot of those characters were good personal trainers and knew 24hr fitness "not in your face" style of customer interface. Pros: -Well maintained equipment and no shortage of treadmills, cardio, etc. Very wide variety of weightlifting machines. Good freeweight selection. -Open 24hrs a day (not sure if that will change) -Wet and dry sauna with swimming and whirlpool. Basketball court too. -Friendly, non-intimidating environment Cons: -No paper towels or hand towels. They do this to increase profit (as many lower end gyms do nowadays). Trust me the place is ridden with bacteria. Yes there are a few paper towel dispensers to wipe sweat off machines. That isn't keeping them or you clean though. -Bathrooms are usually not well maintained. Neither is the dry sauna. -Newer staff seems to be more oriented toward making year to year revenue increases than the satisfaction of the current members. -Annoying key card system. Bring back the fingerprint scanners

I have lifted here for about 2 years or so. The layout was fine, but now they are remodeling! Which is great but at the same time frustrating because of the smells during construction and the inconvenience of no bathroom and a legit place to change. However, I still love lifting there. Staff are helpful and friendly, besides the one guy who was so set in on spotting “trainers” outside of his company and kicking them out. He kept eyeing my friends and I while we lifted together and it was very unsettling. He did this every time. He even found one of my friends Facebook profile just to justify his accusations and screenshotted a status that was dated back months ago and showed it to us while we lifted. I won’t be that person and say his name, but he did not make my experience any better there. He honestly made us want to switch gyms. (I think he moved anyway) Other than that, the rest is great! I’m excited for the finished remodel.

I have been a memeber at this club for 4+ yrs. It had been 10months or more since I had been. I was very surprised and happy with the remodel. It looks fantastic!!! Great looking facility and fun updated equipment. I would say that the sauna and steam room need make overs but Ill take it for now. Great job! Not even upset about my monthly dues being "wasted" for the period of time that I did not attend. The new look is motivating and makes me want to be there.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! At first I thought this gym was ok, but check out what I've seen in the past few months so you can get an idea of what happens there: -People were boxing in the sauna. The sauna is rather small and there is certainly no room for this. No pads, just two guys hitting each other HARD, not sparring, but full on fight, gonna leave a bruise, aggressive. One of the girls in the sauna asked them to stop since she felt uncomfortable and the guy started complaining about her and stormed out. It appears this group is friends with a few of the staff, so I don't expect this behavior to change anytime soon. -One of the trainers was taking pictures of people working out without permission. -People randomly bark, I'm not sure if this is just one or two people or some growing trend at this gym. -People drop weights constantly. Full loaded bar, hip drop. -Almost every machine is messed up in some way. ESPECIALLY CARDIO. There is a stair step machine that every 8th step feels like you're in an earthquake. Most off the treadmills have messed up tv/audio or just don't work. No signs on the machines, they're just off. Ellipticals have loose parts and wiggle in a way that make it very uncomfortable to use. -The locker rooms are disgusting. -The hot tub is ALWAYS under maintenance and what's better is people still use it. Full on ropes around it, someone is still in there. -The recently implemented a "No shoes in the pool/sauna area." NOBODY obeys this rule, not even the trainers. It's obvious that nobody respects the rules in this gym. Basically, use your money somewhere that takes care of it's members. If you MUST join Genesis, use the one on Shawnee Mission instead, even though it's busy at least it's clean.

Construction that takes out both bathrooms at the same is a real pain. BUT 'no pain, no gain', right? It will be worth it-eventually. Fortunately, at 5:30 am Greg checks you in with a smile at the front desk for Kate's Spin class! The workout, energy and music ease that pain, she is THE BEST!! Until you need a bathroom. Then you just get a little more workout running up to the mall!! Thanks Genesis!!

Stay away from this gym! The management/staff cares little to nothing about the health and safety of this gym or occupants. I (along with several others) have reported issues with cleanliness and rancid smells from the equipment and weights but yet they do nothing to fix the problem. Machines are in need of repair (greasing, cables fraying, rust, etc). Save yourself the headache and money and choose Planet Fitness instead.
