REVIEWS OF Midtown Athletic Club IN Illinois

James Spadavecchia

Very nice facility after the renovation but a bit overcrowded at times

Matt Wilborne

Midtown has amazing facilities and friendly staff members. It's worth the membership.

Ed Garland

Nice modern remodel.

grace kim

Cute. It’s like a little country club in the city

Jose Davila

Discrimination, is greatly present in this facility. I came into this facility to explore and possibly partner. Instead I was discriminated against because of how I look. But I am a famous photographer. I stand up for injustice. I've never felt that way before. It is sad

Avery Harris

Sherri Liberatori

I love it but way to many kids. Wish we had an adults only pool.

Carrie Kempler

Great tennis and great coaches

Eric C. Hinderberger

Incredible Health Club- all amenities and services are available and provided provided for individuals seeking Health and Wellness

John Anthony Reyes

Amazing club since the renovation. Offers swimming, fitness, tennis, spa, restaurant and much more! One of the more elite clubs in Chicago. Family friendly. Would recommend to a friend over any other club or gym in Chicago

The best club I've ever been to

I have a less than stellar experience at midtown as a member. It's a new beautiful space, but I found the tennis program to not match its reputation. Group classes are sometimes oversized with up to 10 students for an instructor. I had a 50/50 chance in terms of getting a good coach vs mediocre one. Tennis nights which used to be free now cost extra. Turnout for the have been low resulting in cancellation of program. Instead club is more focused on being a posh resort sports club. Overall I think Midtown did not offer enough draw for people primary interested in tennis.

john haymer

Has been around for years and still great

Sophia Guzman

Natasha Madkins

Gorgeous facility

Ellen Coffin

Beautiful and excellent service

Travis Williams

Very nice gym, great new facilities. As of now I’d say: 1. More weights could be good as weight room is bit full at times already. 2. Limit all memberships 3. Have some adults only pool days as it is unusable/not enjoyable now due to huge families kids (screaming).

Danny Player

Offers no day passes? Not even if you're willing to pay? Or was that just for me?

Najuan Mack

The Midtown Athletic Club was a lot of fun. Over 500,000 square feet of space to do (or at least practice) pretty much any sport you can imagine. From crossfit to boxing, and weightlifting to swimming, toy can do it all. The place also has a hotel upstairs which I stayed at that was beautiful. This is a definite best kept secret in Chicago.

Crystal Dierks

I love the facility, never too crowded, great classes, nice instructors, BUT...their business center is awful. To be a member, a personal credit card needs to be on file, which is fine by me, except over the past 7 months, my card has been over charged about $900! I have been refunded for these "mistakes" (they usually double charge me for my drills classes), but it is frustrating having to call every other month to tell them they have double charged my card AGAIN. I am glad I pay attention to my statements, but I do not feel comfortable having my card on file with Midtown because they are abusing it.

Tim Keiser

The gym is wonderful, the classes are wonderful. I've referred family members to mid-town... and am starting to regret doing so. My concern is that the sales/membership arm of Midtown is either very deceitful or just incompetent. The interactions I've had left me feeling mislead, unappreciated and overcharged. I just wish they cared as much about members as they do membership dues. To date, I've dealt with Bill S. & Rick F.. I met with Bill S. to sign up. He promised that my my single membership could be converted to a couple's membership when my wife's current gym membership ended without any initiation fee, so long as she did so within 1 year of sign up. Based on this representation, I joined Midtown. When I sought to take Bill up on his offer, I was unable to reach him. I then spoke with Rick F. Rick F. informed me that there was a $250 upgrade charge for my wife and that we'd be receiving a "discounted" couple's rate. Apparently, this change in procedures was buried in an email sent around the holidays - and that he didn't care about the prior promises made at sign up. He didn't realize that friends of ours were offered the same monthly rate AND paid no initiation/upgrade fee earlier that week. Based on this information, I knew Rick was insufficiently empowered to offer discounts previously promised to us or unaware of what rates were being offered. During our Sunday AM conversation, Rick was extremely combative and refused to so much as address the inconsistencies in the message I'd received - instead, referring me immediately to his manager. For someone whose job it is to attract/retain membership, he seemed awfully disinterested in current customer satisfaction. We're still debating if we will upgrade our membership, fees and all, but the lack of attention to customer satisfaction has been frustrating. Midtown made a bunch of promises to get our business, but then has failed to follow-through on them

Dante Ragozzino

Great facility, but quite costly

Yvette DeBois

Best athletic club in town!

Erin Shanley

Bait and switch. Super shady. Signed us up as a family membership but no matter what time I want to go they're always 'too full' to accept my child. It's the whole reason we signed up!! Crappy business practices. They scammed thousands of people to sign up early, then delayed the opening of the new club, and when it did open it was so full you couldn't move. It's NOT at all worth the money. Over-hyped BS

My wife and I joined Midtown a few months before the completion of the renovations. We were looking for a beautiful gym, with a nice pool and hot tub, and really were happy to pay luxury prices for that luxury feeling. And Midtown has completed a beautiful renovation. The equipment is great, the facade is beautiful, the wrist bands and locker rooms are very smart and easy. It is a beautiful gym; however, we feel like we are at a luxury YMCA. It is absolutely designed for families. The pool is flooded with kids, swim lessons, swim teams, swim camps. My wife expressed how important swimming 4-5 days a week is, and they told us about how their would always be designated swim lanes, but that is just not the case. And I love kids, but I am not paying nearly $300 a month to be splashed by kids while i'm trying to work out. Or waiting for a swim lane because they are taken by kids playing games. I also do not want to listen to screaming kids while I am relaxing in the hot tub. And no one is managing this. Honestly, our biggest gripe is that we feel duped. It is fine to be a gym that caters to families, but make that very, very clear to people who are signing up. We are now stuck in a contract that they refuse to let us out of. We will absolutely be leaving as soon as our contract is up. And had they worked with us to find a solution, and given some validation to our concerns, which are felt by many people who do not have kids (and even some with kids) -- we would be recommending them to families, but they have been pretty useless since we first expressed our concerns, and that is reason enough to never recommend this gym. After reading other reviews on other sites about midtown I can see that this is a global issue that they are choosing to ignore. Good luck Midtown, but I strongly suggest you take your money elsewhere.

Maureen McMahon

Beautiful and comprehensive facility. Child care available. Tennis, Indoor / outdoor pools. Instructions and youth clubs. Adjacent hotel .

Lauren Penson

I love playing tennis here. The club is nice, but I prefer the Bannockburn location for its facilities and the fact that it's not as crowded for certain classes.

Amazing club since the renovation. Offers swimming, fitness, tennis, spa, restaurant and much more! One of the more elite clubs in Chicago. Family friendly. Would recommend to a friend over any other club or gym in Chicago.

Brier Creek

Max Hilke, new guy, totally self centered..... avoid him.

Steve Bulcock

Great workout gym.

Shaina Nolley

This is the biggest indoor tennis club in the US. My team practiced there. The courts are very nice.

Ashish Ansal

Overpromised, underperformed. Signed up for the facilities which are nice, however sales person told us that basketball courts would be available and ready to go in APRIL!!! She knew that this would be a huge selling point for us, it’s now July, and no word on when they will open up. I wrote an email to the sales person but no response. I guess they only respond when they want your initiation fee.

Phil Targun

Greedy club, after being members for 8 years, we moved from Chicago to Nashville. Missed the cut off day by one day to cancel our membership and they charged us an extra month. We also had 2 car tires pop during construction in the midtown parking lot, they said this was our fault - fine until we ended up finding loose screws by the pool. The club is over packed, the steam rooms and saunas are weak.

Greatest athletic club ever

Siri Thongpan

Definitely an upscale urban sports resort! Very nice facilities and friendly services. Great for family, as the place has Kidstown Area where you can drop off your children. Big indoor Olympic lap pool and an outside lounge pool. Love the restaurant, however exclusively for resort guests and club members. Huge tennis courts and they offer so many different classes!

Todd Thorson

Midtown is THE club to belong to!

Mike Groft

I was recently a guest at Midtown and was extremely impressed by the facilities and all the activities taking place but mostly it was the sincerity of the staff that made me feel most welcome...

Hobz Qe

nice courts and they let vets play free sometimes

Will Pross

I love tennis. They have decent facilities and are making them much nicer. Excited for the future.

John Cleary

Fun

Helen Adams

The club is beautiful. Especially the outdoor pool which was very crowded. The noise was the problem. They pipe in music from 5 AM until 11 PM. The music along with the weights woke me up at 5 every morning. That was after a night of hearing every person in the hallway and every door shutting all night long. They did not think about how sound carries when they put the hotel rooms in the club.the road noise was also a problem. I paid way too much money to not be able to sleep

Tyler Rellings

This is more that gym people go to , to hangout and feel like they are "someone". The equipment lacks all the basics. Very few benches, very few working attachments. It's more a social club then a place to workout.

Gilbert Castilleja

Israel Fernandez III

Beautiful facility and friendly staff... food amd cocktails are great too!

Levi Kane

Great club, moderate execution

Zachary Cho

Expensive but good facility

Nicolle Poche'

Nice facility, but horrible customer service!!! I called multiple times to cancel my membership since I was moving, but because I didn’t email them, they charged me for two months that I was not able to attend! Really disappointing.

Serena Kleinstub

I can't say enough about this place and I haven't even seen it in the summer yet! My boys are loving Kidtown! I am loving all the different classes and rooms I can go workout in! And I am pretty sure my favorite thing is the eucalyptus steam room! Can't wait for summer to experience the outdoor pool. Oh, and Kaitlyn is doing wonders with my 4 yr old in swim lessons! Thank you Midtown for my home away from home!

Hau Chyi

The new midtown really is epic! Especially how clean it is. Staff always are present to clean and tidy things up. Peak hours can get a bit busy though.

Jazz Burks

This is where I learned to play and love tennis. I still have not found a better tennis facility that I have been allowed to play at. If you can afford it this is the place to play! Having been back since the hotel renovation the place is now truly mindblowing. My only criticism is that the walkway that allowed for viewing in the main building is gone. I wanted to watch my mixed doubles team play and had to rely on the niceness of members on the adjacent court to allow us to sit on the bench and watch.

Beth Babcock

I feel like I'm on vacation when I'm there. Beautiful facilities with fun group classes, really nice indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs.

Shanae Sterba

One of a kind!!

Deonna Melton

This place is about a year old now. When socializing with others the debate of "is this place better than East Bank Club (EBC)" is the only question. My answer would be yes AND no. Midtown (MAC) is simply beautiful and modern. It feels like a place I could easily spend most of my day here bc its a one stop shop with many offerings to keep yu both entertained and feel comfortable. Almost all of the classes are included in the cost of the membership (with the exception of a fancy Pilates class). That is a HUGE win for MAC over EBC. The classes are well structured and designed to give you the best workout experience. One could easily get in shape here. They also offer over 200 classes per week and at most gyms, yu have wait around for a class to start. Not here, and no shortage of options! The classes, the rooms are beyond impressive. The Spin studio has the large interactive screen, the Boxing studio is beyond cool and the BEST room is the Yoga studio! If I can't find my inner peace after leaving that, I won't ever. Especially considering the fight of traffic to get to this place. LOL I think the cost is reasonable but a commitment is required once yu join. I would absolutely suggest checking this place out. Its well worth a 30 min tour!!

The family I work for and I always come into this athletic club on a daily basis for tennis, swimming, and personal training! I brought the child I’m baby sitting today for swimming and Kate the manager was very disrespectful and not understanding at all! She not only denied us any services but consistently kept telling me I’m not a member I understand that but the fact that I was just here Friday with the kids and they let me in no problem, and no I’m getting kicked out because I’m not a member is ridiculous! Also to note they charge a $60 fee for every time you bring a guest! You guys will be getting a call to the supervisor by me!

Veronica Martinez

Not so good too many families with kids

Matthew Delfino

trying to join this club has been a complete nightmare. Staff is rude, GM & CEO don't return calls. The club looks like it'll be nice (when it finally opens) but this is a company that clearly doesn't care about their customers. Stay away.

majed assaf

Beautiful state of the art facility with all the amenities. You feel like your on a cruise ship. But very expensive membership. Not meant for blue collar workers with a family to supprt

Ian Scott

I'm a current member of midtown athletic club, for one more day. Don't walk away from this place, run. They're liars and they conduct shady business practices. We joined the club during construction over a year ago. We were told our rates wouldn't go up, that they were locked. We were also told that the parking in the garage would always remain free to members. We would have never joined without this incentive. The workout facilities were absolutely awful during the construction, totally inadequate. Well, they just notified us a month ago that our rates were going up by 25% and that we would eventually start paying for parking. I emailed and called the GM, after much discussion we came to a compromise. We were going to give it a shot, to see what the new club had to offer when construction was finished. He told me to get back to him, so I did a few days later. No response after a month and two emails. My wife also emailed looking for information but received no response. There are many other members that are complaining and haven't received responses to their emails. This place is a money grab, guilty of the old bait and switch. Do not join. I am very disappointed I fell for their lies and that I wasted over a year training in such an awful facility.

Todd Schnack

The best health club in Chicago hands-down ...

chris lietz

Amazing facility, more like a resort than a gym. One star off because they don't seem to have water fountains anywhere.

Colin Goodale

Midtown is a very nice and clean club. Generally friendly staff, but beware of their business practices. Whenever they have a problem, they generally look to add mandatory charges to your account. The latest example of this is them charging us $10 for every single occasion that you forgot your gym tag. This happens to a lot of people, sometimes you just forget to bring it to work. I reached out to management, they were very old to the idea that this was unfair. There are a lot better plea es to pump or workout I. Chicago that aren't going to nickle and dime you outside the annual contract. Avoid this place at all costs if you care about saving your money.

Rhiannon Naslund

I belong to the Palatine location, and the management and tennis program are terrible. I used to below to East Bank, but now live too far away. Do not be tempted by the Chicago Midtown rehab. The professionalism and offerings at Midtown do not compare to other clubs. The membership here is not worth the money. I hope something else opens in the burbs.

Andrew Wilson

This is the best club ever. Totally redesigned and gorgeous! A must see!

John Palfrey

Amazing gym. Great restaurant.

Patrick Moorhead

Just joined! Really looking forward to the renovated facilities, child care, and indoor pool this winter!

Rachael Babiracki

GORGEOUS!!! Super luxuroius facility. Great ameneties, classes are really fun. The only bad part is it is a little awkward to get into from the street.

Amy Shevokas

The classes are great because you do not need to sign up in advance. The instructors are some of the best I've had. The locker rooms are amazing. The parking situation is okay and the pool could be warmer. Overall, my family is thrilled.

Ashish Gheware

Midtown tennis coaches see Champion in every kid and strive hard to make them better players every day.

kunuji adeyemi adeleke

Great workout place in the city

Geoffrey Harris

Great "new" club.

Haider Istanbouli

So the most valuable thing here are it’s people. Kidstown area people treat us like VIP every time we come. This part makes the membership worth it alone. It took a little bit to win my one year old over but my daughter now loves everyone their. The restaurant and cafe people are very nice and welcoming as well. The hosts especially. Sha the personally trainer/MMA fighter is well versed in training beginners to box. I’ll be a member as long as the service stays the same and live in the area. Well done.

Samuel Miller

Great atmosphere for athletes and healthy shopping

Ethan Aquino

Enjoy tennis facilities!

Molly Leahy

Very pretty rehab! Parking, workout facilities and lockerrooms are great!! The customer service IS PRETTY GROSS. Start at the basics- “the CUSTOMER is always right.” (Or should be treated as a customer, not an inconvenience ) As well as, “Yes and ...or No, however....” I came in to sign paperwork for a membership already paid for and was treated very poorly. The woman I interacted with seemed annoyed and struggled to communicate her annoyance in a polite way.

Dan Bourbeau

The gym is nice, albeit delivered late. But this place is way overpriced. The weights equipment area is small given how big the facility is. I have referred several people and all walked away saying its too expensive. And they nickel and dime you for everything. $4 per hour for parking!! They sell you on, come and hang out, take a meeting, work out, eat lunch...but then institutes a $4 per hour parking fee when you stay a while. $180 a month for single membership is outrageous. $30 an hour for golf simulator. $4/hr for parking. $40 men's haircut. $50 for lunch for two. And you have to deal with the fact that it is also a hotel. The trainers are good, but the training manager will interrupt your very expensive session to tell your trainer they aren't wearing the right shirt or enough flare. You are a cash machine for this place, they don't care about the members. Also, they run slow R&B jams on the overhead speaker, which sucks to work out to. This place could be great if it were run better. The GM Brad Houx needs to be fired and someone with some sense put into that role. I just canceled my membership. Parking at a gym you pay a premium monthly membership for is not a perk.

Elena Frankel

High end health club or family club?

Shafieka McRae

Unbelievable!!!!! I visited there Wish I could move there just for the facilities!!

Katrina Derhake

Midtown is my happy place. The staff is so amazing and they have really tried their hardest to keep everything running smoothly during construction.

Robert Molina

I’ll happily pay more for my membership if the service gets better. It certainly can’t get any worse

Melissa Carter

Called a "sports resort" for a reason. I want to go spend an entire me-day there every week!

Mark Hopkins

Lisa Penelton

I've been a member for over 10 years. The staff and facility are exceptional despite the construction dusts. The club is downgraded from 5 stars to 4 for the time being because we're missing key amenities like the club lounge and reasonably sized practice courts. That said, the construction has us on the way to something great.

Amazing club since the renovation. Offers swimming, fitness, tennis, spa, restaurant and much more! One of the more elite clubs in Chicago. Family friendly. Would recommend to a friend over any other club or gym in Chicago

Mary Debrizzo

Fabulous place, our son and family belong and we went for dinner, it was delicious and the staff was so acomidating. It has it all even a simulated driving range. Really amazing club.

Eduard Antonyan

Extremely overpriced unless you're that one person that actually uses everything they offer. Their main draw is that they currently enjoy a monopoly for covered tennis courts in the area, which allows them to be awful to you - I'm looking at you Stacy Brown and tennis management - with no repercussions. I sincerely hope a competitor will show up to straighten their business practices out.

Owen Garrick

They would not let me use stuff that I am allowed to but the rest of the club is great.

I loved midtown as a member, but canceling your membership is more complicated then landing a rocker on a drone. If you want to be a life long member sign up, if you have any doubts then avoid it.

I love the new club! Always family friendly!

Frank Harmon

It's ok. Over promise and under deliver. Still experiencing lots of growing pains.

Rem Johannknecht

Amazing design and great equipment. The only downside is a 50 dollar tennis court rental fee which is high for an amateur.

Carolina Cerda

The overall club is great but they need to work on the food and the restaurant. The burger I got had no taste and was kinda dry. The ham panini was dry and had no flavor and the tomatoes were gross.

Use to be the best tennis club in the city. Now it's just another millennial froo-froo club, lot's of cross-training b.s. Both new members and staff aren't very nice to the older members. They don't care about the tennis players anymore...sad.

Jenna Spurrier

Wow. This has to be the best indoor tennis facility I've ever seen. Ate at the restaurant and the food was superb. If I lived in Chicago, I'd have a hard time NOT joining.

Zachary Ginzel

An amazing athletic center.

Kara Sagebiel

I was a guest for yoga class with knowledgeable teacher and tasty lunch. Beautiful building, excellent facility.

Tyler L.

Incredible facility but they need to get the kinks worked out and finish construction.

Casey Hoogstraten

The best full service athletic club and hotel in Chicago.

Asher Stewart

This is a great place, where if you want to do maps, you can while your kids are in the kid pool having a great time. Or if you want to do workouts but you have nowhere to bring your kid, you can drop them off at kidtown (in the new building) or if you just want to play tennis, golf and so much more. There is also a very nice kids menu, and a variety of chooses on the regular menu. I do have to say that the food there is kind of expensive. Overall it is a great place to be. 5 stars!!

Joe Feltham

Beautiful facility. Took multiple classes while staying at hotel and enjoyed all of them. Fun mix of boxing and cross fit classes as well as typical spin, yoga, etc.

Regina Alvarez

awesome athletic club! I went on a guest pass, great amenities, clean very beautifully designed locker rooms, I enjoyed the indoor lap pool & the restaurant. They also have a great kids town, where kids can play while you work out!! The also have family locker rooms as well as male & female ones.

david hussar

Claire Dolan

This place was so nice it made me feel bad. Doesn't even feel real. Wow.

Eric Lehr

Terrible for weight training. The club is more focused on group fitness and creating space for people to record themselves stretching vs. putting in work.

Jenesis Lopez

Sarah is a great instructor! I love her class and appreciate the early schedule. I get my workout out the way before work and all daily tasks. (6A.M.) She has grest music and an awesome routine to keep you awake and motivated!

intrinsic focus

Bad business to deal with. The club is average. Undergoing construction- everything is a mess. My wife went in last year to sign our little boy for the summer camp and was sold on a membership to get a 'membership rate' for the camp. We got $40 discount and have been paying an arm and a leg since then since it's impossible to get out of the contract. If you move you can't break the contract before 1 year is over and you still pay the fees. It's a very unethical institution. You can suspend the contract but you still need to pay monthly dues and a huge chunk at termination. I would never go there had someone warned me

Lakeesha Shaw

Beautiful club

Jason Mantzouranis

Exceptional renovated facilities and lots of tennis courts.

Cathy Rubey

#30daychallenge #chicago +Google Local Chicago Midtown Athletic Club has been my goto Chi location for exercise and relaxation. Ok, so it's not relaxing to play tennis, but they make it easy to transition from urban life to a focused sport activity. I've competed on club teams there in days gone by (aka before kiddos) and the facility and staff were always welcoming and accommodating. That's huge for me....can you handle a curve ball...wait, that's a different sport. Anywhoo, the suburban location in at 63rd Street and Clarendon Hills Rd in Clarendon Hills is equally nice and conveniently located for us suburbanites. Any chance I get to play at either, I'm all about!

Danielle Songero

My family and I have been members here since all the construction. It's been disappointing so far. Everything is over priced (literally everything). You can get a bottle of water anywhere for less than over $3, all pastries are $5, and spa services are the worst. There isn't even a decent, casual restaurant to hang out and dine. The menu is terrible! They're not changing the menu despite the fact that I haven't heard one member say they like. It's too small to service the entire club and it's still half empty at the busiest times, that's how bad it is...also very, very overpriced. Even the brunch menu is bad. The facilities are nice as far as working out. I would be blasting the kids club for making us make reservations to use it but they're fixing that...beware though, it is geared towards little kids. Once a kid hits 6 years old they start to outgrow it. We have to set our 8 year old up in a sitting area with a tablet these days...not great. We're going to give it one full summer to see if the outdoor pool makes it worthwhile but having it for the end of last warm season gave us the impression that it will be way overcrowded.
