The facility was decent my only complains are that they attach TVs to all the cardio equipment so you are forced to watch something or at least a screen in front of you and be no area for core

Josh Jeffords

Lifelong gymrat thats me this is thebonly real gym in town open to all. Even after all the remods and facelifts still has same feel. Even when lot is full still plenty of room to workout, shower and swim. Onlyn detractor is price and location.

Victoria Avery

They have a pool, which I like. There has only been one or two times the pool was too packed for me to use. Staff is friendly. They keep clean locker rooms and showers whenever I see them. I am mostly there in the AM. I live the hot tub, especially when it's -30 outside. I would love to try the racket ball courts--that is next on my list.

So we don't honor holidays here? Open on MLK day? Normal business hours with no mention of the holiday anywhere in the gym

Wow for the money we pay you would think they would fix the steam room it's not working for 4 weeks now

The facility is nice, updated equipment and pleasant staff from previous experience. However, the company is doing a disservice with the policy of not discussing prices or information over the phone. It is NOT a secret how ridiculously expensive the facility is (even if the price is to facilitate in keeping up with expansion, overhead, maintenance, etc). I receive phone call after phone call and the one time I answer, I am told by the representative that they are unable to give me information over the phone. If you have no intention of discussing information to sell me your facility over the phone, upon my request, as I and many others have very tight and busy schedules, QUIT CALLING ME. It's terrible customer service on your part and has actually impacted our decision to ever return to your facility. The fact that my questions of pricing and such were avoided on the phone, made me question any other intentions the company may be trying to hide from me or have. Getting me to come to the facility to discuss this, which I am assuming you are trying to get me there to see whats inside, to sell your price, makes no difference with how expensive it is. Honesty truthfulness, full disclosure and great customer service is what sells and I personally would have been more willing to pay a more expensive price had this been the case as your facility would have met the needs/wants of our family. It's called basic business in the consumers eyes. I hope the company decides to change this in the future. It's about serving the community, not your company.

Got roped into this place when they bought out anytime fitness, none of the bonus features worked, took months to get my badge to work at the 24 hour location. decided this wasn’t the place for me. 60 days written notice required to cancel. What a joke, for the $100+ a month this place costs maybe get some equipment that Arnold wouldn’t point at and say ya that’s what I used when I first started.

I will be glad when the construction is done but the remodeling is a big improvement.

Always a great place to work out. Kid friendly , adult classes and weight room. Been going here since I was 8 years old am now 34, so that should be a testimony to its quality.

Not a high-class or even medium-class gym but you will definitely pay the price of a high-class gym! Their recent "remodel" consisted of tearing down 2 walls upstairs and moving some equipment around. The ladies locker room only has one bathroom stall that I can find. The 'new" group fitness room has no fans and the water fountain has been broken now for a month. Because they're the only gym in Fairbanks that offers group classes and a pool, I guess they feel they can get away with charging people so much money and offering such a low-class facility. Thought about going to Planet Fitness, which is only around $20.00 a month, but all they offer is machines and weights, no classes, pool, etc. The only reason I'm giving this place any stars is because of how awesome the group fitness instructors are. It's too bad they can't put their talents to use in a nice gym.

I love and hate the Alaska Club. I love the pool and jacuzzi. I love the changes. I love the food choices in there snack area. Much more wholesome and healthy foods. I hate the cost to be a member and I hate accounting and I hate how much they charge non members. ATTITUDE! I hate the attitude of most the new ppl. Since the roll over with new mgmt and new employees there is a hardness towards members. I miss the kind hearted employees. In adition to this it is the best fitness club in Fbks. I do think if we had another fitness club to give them some competition like the YMCA the Alaska Club would be singing a new tune. Oh how I wish the YMCA would come to Fairbanks!

Llots of options, like bb court, workout rooms, deli/ cafe', tanning, mini rockwall room etc. But, I think everything is overpriced and they need newer everything... Especially equimpment.

I love taking my kids here during the summer. The swimming class are great.

I would give this gym zero stars if I could. Most of the equipment is very outdated. A lot of the cardio equipment doesn’t work correctly. The turn over rate for the employees is insane. There will be all new employees every couple of months. It takes them forever to fix anything if it is broken. The play center is a nightmare. I will say I love Peggy and Heather. The manager of the play center last year got fired for sleeping on the job. They found her sleeping inside of some of the big tubes the kids play in. My children have been hurt countless times by other children because, they never have enough employees working for how many kids are there. One of my sons had a chunk of his face bitten off by another child who got on top of him and held him down. The employee watching them thought they were “ playing”. They also change the hours of the play center ever couple of months. If there was another gym that offered childcare I would have left years ago. The bathrooms and locker room are usually pretty gross. There used to be a bad mold problem in one of the bathrooms. Employees have told me that they water down all of the soaps to cut down on costs. Even though family memberships are almost 200 a month. Parking is horrible too. There are not enough parking for how many members there are. The gym is one hundred percent not worth how much you pay for it.

If you like to do the gym thing everyday, then this is your fairbanks place to go. Personally, I can not justify 100 bucks a month if I go a couple times a month. They should really think about having a 15 dollar one day fee option.

LANE Grimsley

Great equipment great staff! Theyre pool is amazing n have you seen thier locker rooms!! Omg

Troy Thomas

I like the new equipment.

Kai Mack

Poorly maintained facility, extremely disappointing for the huge price tag. Both suggestions and complaints fall on deaf ears, and the constant employee turnovers prevent any reliability in any department. Constant complications with membership, unmaintained equipment and unsanitary conditions are just a few of the primary concerns of a vast majority of current members. It should also be said that the locker rooms are deplorable, and quite frankly dangerous; with inches of standing water and the same months-old scum and grime, it almost makes the handles falling off the lockers seem reasonable. This facility needs serious scrutiny.

I love what they have done with the gym. New locker rooms, new cafe, and the kids love the kid room although it is over heated and gets stuffy at times.

Alaska fitness club is the worst gym I have ever dealt with. They tried to not honor my separation orders then tried to make me pay a cancellation fee even though I was with them for a year. Please beware of signing up to this gym. The gym looks nice but will try to rip you off money wise.

A majority of my time is spent at the pool swimming with the Fairbanks Masters Swim Team. The Alaska Club has tons of fitness programs. I stick with group fitness. Overall, the instructors are well-trained, funny, and personable. They have good equipment that I use when I don't want to go outside to run. There are tons of features that I pay for but rarely use (like tanning), but it's nice to have it all set up when I do. Like the Alaska Club way more than their nearby competitors.

I am adding this review because I called them up to inquire about memberships, and there is a policy not to tell you the prices on anything, no matter how much I politely pushed. The girl on the phone was very friendly, told me all about the facilities, but was not authorized to talk about the price unless I came in in-person. This is not Hogwarts or some secret society. It’s a gym. To not be able to give out pricing information over the phone is insane.

Jesse J

We had a membership there before but I can't see myself spending nearly $2,000 the year for a membership there I can pay for a membership at another location for a lot less or another thing is I can buy equipment that way I could go out and explore other places Alaska with that every year it does go up but $190 a month for a plan it is not for me if you do go there I hope you enjoy it and see the value of the new has a really nice hot tub and a steam room from the amount of money we saved from going there from when I canceled my account with them we purchased several name brand bikes for my family also name brand skis and we do go out and enjoy hiking paths in the interior of Alaska

I have been taking my son to swim lessons here and it has been a nightmare dealing with the staff, no one knows what the rules are, they don't understand simple questions about locker rooms, and want me to let my six year old go through a locker room alone... The first day some older woman in the swim area chewed me out for using the girls locker room (that the girl at the counter told us to use) then when I asked for clarification on which locker room we were supposed to use this morning, the counter boy almost had a brain aneurysm after looking at his computer for a minute, then a binder he spouted "open swim is at 530!" Omg.... the only person who is even competent enough to give me the correct information is his swim coach. Thank god for her or these people probably couldn't even blow their own noses.

I received my membership through a family friend as part of a multi-person deal, been using 4 or 5 different gyms around Fairbanks and North Pole. In terms of gym equipment it’s a solid 4/5! Different rooms that cater to different styles of training. Anything from racketball, pools, sauna, and steam room and all high quality and clean. The staff and membership system is ridiculous though, and really deserves a 1/5. Expect to pay around $100 for a single person and $170 for a family package with extremely specific rules($120 and $190 for respective. The club has a system that feels more like a car dealership than a gym, brought two friends to workout with me and the membership people were at the door ready to scout and nearly did not let them workout because they continuously see about getting a membership. If you’re looking for a gym that has options beyond working out and don’t mind spending an obscene amount of money then it’s a great gym.

Too many things wrong. To put it simply check out northside athletics or R&N fitness. The Alaska club is by far the most egregiously overpriced “gym” in Fairbanks. You will not get anywhere near the value you should for the price you pay.

Adam Strack

Family friendly. Overall one of the better gyms I've been to. Meets the fitness needs of my wife and I. Membership is definitely worth it's cost.

Very expensive for not being a 24/hour location. We signed up to use the pool mostly and occasionally use the equipment upstairs. It seemed like there was always equipment down (for days in a row) the little food court upstairs was barely opened and there were several times the towels and/or spray solution weren't there to use for wiping off the machines. In the locker room they had given it upgrades and the lockers were nice but not always easy to get to if you had to take a corner locker. Also the towels in the locker room weren't always available and some times they would just throw them in there without folding and so you never knew if it was actually the clean pile or the dirty pile that people misplaced. As for pool usage- which is why we signed up... there are so many activities scheduled in the pool that having time to just swim was usually accompanied by sharing a lane with other people sometimes 3 or more. There were unscheduled events that would go on and when I asked the front desk about it they couldn't provide an answer as to why the swim team had a schedule to come and use the pool but people who paid a membership to use the pool wouldn't be given that information. Oh and as for the 24 hour information- they have a location that is 24 hours. It is across town, completely out of the way, and a quarter of the size. So you would literally have to wait to use a machine if it was remotely busy. All and all, we felt that there was too many negatives to outweigh the positives. So we canceled our membership and will just swim at a local pool at a fraction of the cost.

Its the best gym in Fairbanks, I like the hours, and its comfortable working out there. Down side is the walking/running track, its ridiculously small and uneven, the 'family' locker room is in bad need of remodeling, and I think that it could use more attention in both appearance and cleanliness. If they invested a bit more into the place and moved it in a more convenient location, it would be really great!

It's a rip off! Do not sign anything there, you're going to be in a big big trouble. The consultants just wanna sign you up to make their pay check bigger, they don't act in your interest, don't explain anything and completely skip the dues and fees info! Unless you wanna pay hundreds of dollars, do not sign up, it's a trap!!!

Nicole Stewart

I just received awesome customer service from this club's manager - Bonnie Brooks. She has always been extremely responsive to suggestions, and just now went out of her way to find an item I'd left at the club. This woman is a gem. I wish I could steal her for my company!!

John Huynh

Apparently pooping on the workout equipment is shamed upon on this fine establishment.... Nothing turns me on than strict rules mmm

I called this morning to ask about family membership details, the lady I spoke with insisted on a walk through even though I've been there many times over the years. I wanted some ball park prices and after a few minutes of the worst customer service I've ever experienced on the phone I said if I can't get any information then I am not going to get a membership, she said ok. I get the feeling that Alaska Club doesn't really want new members. I understand the whole reason behind a tour but didn't have any time to spend, just wanted to get the family up and running, so to speak. I was bummed all day about this.

Been a member for about a year, the ladies locker room is extremely dirty, I’ve talked to staff/manager several times but nothing is being done, cold showers just about every day, staff turning the steam/sauna off half an hour before closing, never consistent, crying babies and kids walking in, tanning rooms are filthy and broken, there is mold growing in the sink over flow hole and smells bad, hair build up in the shower drain and you can smell it when you shower, walls and curtains have dirty stuff on them in the dressing stalls, lockers have trash in them, vents have layers of lint and dust, there is dust hair lint on the trim around the entire locker room, new staff every week, I have pictures but not able to post on my review, although this place seems to be going down hill I keep going to use the steam/sauna room, hope they can get caught up on cleaning, most of the staff is super nice but the cleanliness is very poor.

The racquetball courts have not been resurfaced in over 10 years and they are so slippery they are not safe. One has had construction material in it and unusable for two years. Management won't even tell us when it will be cleared.
