Locker broken into: Went to this gym and for how much I pay a month the lock was broken on my locker and bag with wallet was stolen. Looking for a new gym immediately.

Please do not go here with your children !!! A friend of mine is now fighting them and has video of a women pushing her two year old into the bouncer forcefully and also this two year old has no reason to even be in the bouncer.. Not to mention it happened right in front of her along with the lady yelling at her son in a not so appropriate way. I hope and pray something happens to that woman and this place. I am disgusted by your place.

If I have the opportunity to give zero star I would . I have signed up my kids back in 2016 whom didn’t know how to swim, one day my kids happened to go swimming pool.since they didn’t know how to swim. one of my children ened going to deeper or 12inch and he tried to get back to The edge but he wouldn’t because the water were pulling him to deeper and deeper , my other kids saw it and they start yelling for help to this people so called “lifeguard “. Three of them standing there and no one tried to safe my kid until he was The bottom of the pool unconscious. They start blaming kids saying that they were yelling and it hard to tell if they were playing or needed help. To make matters worse I tried cancel the membership after long process they still didn’t give my Balance back and its been 2 years now.

Hard to workout when it's colder inside the gym than outside. How you expect me to sweat when I gotta wear my full winter gear inside to workout

We are just having an awful time communicating with someone about a double billing we received. I have left messages and my wife has sent emails. Apparently there is only one person named Debbie who is responsible for the summer childcare programs and she doesn't respond to emails from their accounting department. We were double charged for a week of childcare and it's almost $200 but nobody in the billing department knows how to get in touch with this person for authorization to process a refund and they aren't permitted to reach out to a supervisor for help with it. EDIT: I am updating this review to include the final resolution and thank the Alaska Club for refunding the duplicate payment. It seems that we did have to make an awful lot of noise before the issue got their attention and even then the official response went from what was initially "we have performed a complete audit of your records and all charges are correct" to them offering a sincere apology for the mistake but at least it was resolved and refunded. We will likely keep using the summer childcare because our kids really enjoy them and keeping an eye on billing is something that we need to be doing anyway.

I have been told by many people that the Alaska Club has a very bad reputation and now they have earned that bad reputation with me. I joined the Alaska club at the end of last years summer. First they had a lot of fine print which really seemed like I was buying a used car from a sleezy used care salesman. its a one year contact at $98 a month and if you cancel you are charged $500 cancel fee. You can cancel in the fine print if you cancel after 60 or 90 days but you have to have gone for 30 days. All sort of bad fine print. If they were a good company and treated their members good they would not need the fine print. Well a month ago I added my girlfriend to my account at the east location and was asked if I was in a sexual relationship with her. I asked her to repeat that and the member service person repeated it again and asked if I am in a sexual relationship with my girlfriend which is none of her or Alaska Clubs business. Then I was forced to sign a contact saying I was in a relationship with my girlfriend which I did not want to do. If I want a contact I would be married and now Alaska Club has forced me into a contract I did not want to be in just to add my girlfriend to my account. So now I pay $150 a month for the Alaska Club I then move and have to go to the south club which is not far from my new house. Yet it like East both have turned into a day car center and your surrounded by kids. Except the East has a section for adults only and a adults only locker room. The south club has the same thing, except if you want to go to the adult side you have to pay $50 more a month which is just wrong. You already pay for every little extra that they have but now I have to pay to be single and not have kids and not to be around kids. They try to even lie and say its a whole separate club, but in fact its in the same building as the south club and you don't have to go outside to get to it. Its just all double talk and fine print. I write them a letter to complain and I get a condensending email from a manager called Ricky White. Who basically thinks he is going to tell me that I am full of it and nothing like that has happened. He said all conversations are recorded and to tell him when this happened. I told him when and where and what time and then he gets back to me and says oh we don't have that conversation recorded. How convenient that he does not have it. Just shows how much they disrespect and treat their current customer like garbage and take advantage of them. He acted like they were the greatest company yet when I call BS on them and say lets get to the bottom obviously they don't want to go their. I am now thinking about a lawsuit against them because I think my rights were violated. Especially since Mr. Ricky White, wanted to be treat me even more terrible. Bottom line, run from the Alaska Club, they treat customer very bad and you will regret it like I did and still do. I cant wait for my membership to be done so I can no longer have to deal with this company.

Alaska club body shames It is a small guy; very disappointed for the price we pay. Apparently the old stingy Russia ladies get upset when you wear shorts and a T-shirt into the sauna. Because it says swim suit or naked. Sorry that i don’t feel comfortable in my body, to sit in a sauna naked! They felt the need to go tell management and try to get me and a few other ladies i never meet kicked out because of this. If i can wear a shorts and a T-shirt into a pool, i don’t see why i couldn’t wear it in the sauna because i am ashamed of my body after 2 kids!

Don't know what all the malarkey is with the "cleaning crew doesn't do a good job in the women's locker room. It's always been clean and neat when I go and there are always lots of fresh, warm towels available. There's almost always an attendant going through the locker room both when I come and then when I am preparing to leave.

They recently renovated, So a lot of those old reviews of things being run down are out of date. It looks very nice inside now. I hate spending so much on a membership but I love the wide variety of classes and time. Not to mention they have the best child care of any gym in town. The play equipment in all of the Alaska Clubs are awesome. Ball pits, slides, tumble mats, toys, crafts. The highlight of my child's day to be able to go in there and play and be warm and have lots of kids around. It makes going to the gym a lot easier for me.

Kaya Porter

The Alaska Club East is the best/cleanest club in my opinion and Richard, the membership coordinator was very friendly and helped answer all my questions!

Lindsey

Uncompetitive pricing. The "promotion" is a scam. Made a personal training appt with Erin, when I called to confirm I'd be meeting him at East... I call him after 10 minutes late and he's actually at West.... Literally pulled a Patrick star. Bottom line: not on my paycheck.

Amy Conn

My favorite Alaska Club, the front desk people are really friendly, & helpful.

Won’t let us play tennis because teams are reserved there even though the members should have priority, there is nothing else much to do here. If you live in Alaska don’t get a membership here, don’t get one at the ymca ether.

fay ond

Refund was most difficult to get, it took weeks! Charged a late fee when I wasn't late. Trainers show up late or not at all. Don't waste your $ here.

Chris Perry

Great staff, Richard and JJ took great care in setting me up with the package that fits my routine. Awesome new equipment. Not a lot of fighting over space either. Also after being in Alaska during the winter, you can't beat the indoor pool and sauna.

Watch for their scams! The Alaska Club has no problem taking advantage of people knowing that 80% of people will not go past the 5 month mark, let alone the 3 month. The Alaska Club will attempt to pull you in with a 3 month comfort guarantee and tell you, "you can cancel any time in the 3 months", This is not the case. Read your contract before signing. 1: You must have a health consultation. Not bad right? Keep reading 2: You must go to the gym a certain number of times which they will attempt to verify using security camers make sure you don't simply go in, scan and leave. This is why they're so eager to get your photo day 1. 3: you can cancel within the 3 months if you pay $500.00 and submit a 30 day notice. 4: you can only cancel the membership on the 3rd month (thus paying 200.00 after the 1st "free" month) and submit a written notice 10 days of your final 3 month time period expiration. So their comfort guarantee is a scam. The salesmen will not verbally inform you of this. suggest avoiding this company all together. If not, i at least read the ENTIRE contract taking all the time you need to do so.

I love everything about the Alaska Club except their hours of operation. :( Need hot tub after hours!!

Customer service these days has gone to the dogs. 2 stars because the club has a great deal of features. Front desk is horrible. Except the 1 lady that was there early mornings...older lady, because the young ones haven't a clue about customer service. Management either. Front desk little girls, nor management greets you upon entering, picking and choosing unless I guess they know you. I'm frustrated because the club is very convenient but I Hate dealing with accounting and the "management" I've asked to be put on a 3 month hold back in Nov., which they offer. But still got charged full FAMILY membership after requesting to move to individual membership. Finally spoke to a "manager" and she assured me that it would be changed. but didn't hesitate to (in a reprimanding tone) tell me they wont correct there error again. as if I am at fault. The cleaning company does a poor job in the women's shower and locker rooms. When leaving I directly reported the same gross body fluids I saw two weeks in a row still there and got no response. It's shameful. I grin and bare it. If only someone would open a quality gym and care about the many poor reviews. Staff needs an overhaul, starting at the top. They are the standard and example. Ok had to come back and give the accounting department another star. I was shocked. really. I think her name was Lindsey. Very friendly and straight forward. She resolved my issue with being charged too much right away. If I wasn't on the phone I would have hugged her. Clone her Akclub. I was expecting the usual AKclub run around.

Jose was great, I was going to redeem just a free pass till Jose recommend I sign up, which as for free. I don't know what the $20 was for but I enjoyed the club, apparently I feel like I'm being judged by one of the employee, she look Chinese American and has dirty blonde hair. I will come here more often for such a friendly staff, besides that one girl.

Long story short: The front lady Charlotte would not let my little daughter's in with me to go swimming because they weren't on my account. I understand she had a bad day but to give my daughter's attitude after ignoring us for 5 minutes. I said I've been going there for 1 year and never had a problem and I would clear it up on Mondy; she said that she doesn't care and it would be $15 for each of them. Needless to say, I or the gentleman I brought in to get a membership will not be renewing our membership.

Please read the fine print and don't sign Directly ,they are good sales people and they will do anything to convince you to sign! Once you have signed impossible to leave Alaska Club, is like a prison !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miranda Marsh

I have not had any problems at this location, always had towels, hot water, clean facility, nice staff, not too crowded, great child care, nothing broken and I go here 3-4 times a week. My only negative is the HotTub in the pool area is often crowded with kids, but if that’s my only negative it’s doing pretty well.

I loved going to the Alaska Club East. Front Desk Staff are always friendly! This was my first time getting a gym membership with this gym and every time I had questions membership accounting always had the answers I was looking for. But I definitely do recommend reading the fine print before signing anything.

Wow this place is Bad, really bad. I’ve been a member for 5 years and it seems to get worse and worse every time I visit. (It’s also amazing with what we pay that they can’t evet have a working hot tub.) Time to hit the “Y”!

Leila J

I have always loved this place but I am sick and tired of their customer service and everything! It's the worst it has ever been. Anthony with Alaska Club East membership asked me to leave because I wanted to get the day pass and I didn't want to sign up for any of their membership plans. As a previous member for multiple years, I was absolutely horrified at that treatment. I think they want to be marketed only to the rich and they don't want any other kind in their club. What kinda...? I was told to leave because this is "a members only club" even though they have a nonmember daily fee option. I'm a good member of this society... You guys make enough money, maybe you should pay your workers a little more so they will be nicer to the community. Come back down from your high horse and be a community oriented business that treats our community good. Thanks for today... So appreciated.

Great customer service! Richard was super helpful, personable, and answered all my questions. Highly recommend the East club.

Michal Frystacky

The gym is pretty good. With an okay section of weights and machines. Cons: The lights, the flickering CFL's are rough, too many bad lights gives me a huge headache after leaving every time.

Clarissa Zeller

I've been a member for over a year and finally ending membership If you are tight on money or a college student like myself do not go to this gym. This place is meant for people who are financially stable. I first signed up at this club not knowing I signed up for a year contract, it's been a burden. For UAA students there are no student discounts, it's $96 a month. Students would be better signing up with Planet Fitness or going to UAA facilities. There are also big late fees if you do not pay on time. Also when you can finally cancel do it 30 days in advanced before your last payment, their cancellation paper makes it if you don't give it to them in person 30 days in advanced you are contracted to pay for another month, even given a day late. I only gave 2 stars for my trainer I had, he was amazing at showing me how to lift properly and effectively. I would give 1 start for facility and customer service. Overall I payed over $600 in late fees and extra month from the 30 days advanced cancellation on top of my monthly bill. I would only suggest if you are financially stable or if you want a trainer to show you the ropes. I would not recommend this place to a friend, because it has been a financial burden for me and It's made me slightly depressed.

JoDe Lyon

totally ripping people off. I was promised 1 month at $49. I canceled and they still charged my account over $200, forcing me to cancel my card.

Erinn Brian

I really would love to see more water aerobic classes in the evenings and weekends when I can attend. You used to have them but now only when I work. The pool is one of my favorite things.

Jim Mitchener

Even without a contract these guys make it incredibly difficult to cancel. They will jerk you around on the phone and play tag with voicemail never offering any details. You will eventually find out you must submit written notice and even then they bill you for another 30 days past the point of cancellation. I will do everything in my power to persuade everyone I know to never do business with them again.

Bobbi Dotson

Love Love Love this place!!

Jessica Yang

I've been a member with the Alaska club for little over a year now, and all I can say is that I'm very happy that I joined!! If it wasn't for Jariel (JJ), I would have never joined! He greeted me with a smile, asked what my fitness goals were, and if there was anything he could do to help me achieve them! After signing up, he gave me a tour of the gym. Asked if there were any equipment I didn't know how to use and if I didn't he'd show me. He's pretty amazing! Other than that, A+ on keeping the women's locker-rooms clean. Wide variety of workout equipment to break a good sweat. Complimentary towels and headphones when you forget yours!

W C

AK Club's membership & accounting is very dishonest. It is very difficult to cancel your membership. Also, they will increase your monthly dues despite being under contract. When you cancel, be sure to have everything in writing. I should have listened to other people & not signed up. AK Club is very shady & dishonest. Not to mention, too expensive for what they offer. Half the time, things you use at the facilities are broken. Please don't make the same mistake. AVOID THIS GYM.

Not worth your time although this is probably the only one of their clubs even worth glancing at. The administration of the Alska clubs are a bunch of useless money leeches. DO NOT sign up here, or any Alaska Club for that matter. If you want an actual gym check out planet fitness.

Nice facility. Helpful staff. Good sauna and hot tub. Great squash work out with Charles.

I've been a member of The Alaska Club since 2015. Every day I am greeted by name and a genuine inquiry about how my day is going so far. From the clean team to the executive team, the staff at The Alaska Club is rooting for your success in wellness. The members at The Alaska Club East treat each other like family and you can see it the group fitness classes, you can hear it in the locker room, and you can feel it in the weight room. Members openly cheer each other on, share equipment, and lend a helping hand. This positive daily energy is what lead me to join the team and it has been a great career move. My supervisor is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and challenges me everyday. I feel lucky to be surrounded by a team that is truly dedicated to changing lives through fitness.

John Darnall

Not awful, but they need a few more squat racks.

We purchased the special 12 day pass for $25 each. It’s a great bargain. JJ was quick to assess our interests and needs. We primarily signed up to use the pool. The pool hasn’t been busy during this holiday time so we haven’t had to share the lanes. The water temp is a bit cooler than the APU pool, but the hot tub compensates for that. Appreciate the private showers, warm dry towels, and clean locker rooms. Great staff!

Alaska Club East I believed I had an issue that needed to be brought up immediately. The employee was very friendly but could not resolve my problem. She suggested that I speak with the new manager Ricky. I waited till Ricky was available. When I had the chance to speak with him and another co-worker, I was able to present my problem that me and others felt were a problem at the Alaska Club. After hearing my problem, Ricky and his co-worker came up with a temporary solution for the moment and explained that they will continue to work on the problem till they can come up with a permanent solution. I believe that my problem was handle professionally and with a positive and direct response. The professionalism of Ricky and his co-worker as well as the young lady at the front desk was on point and appreciated. That being said, the staff at Alaska East do a great job. Thank Ricky and you employees that helped solve the problem.

Qichaq Snyder

Watch ur end with ur personal trainer or you will get screwed over and have to pay for another month for free. That's what I call a bad personal trainer.

Disgusting, go somewhere else

Holly Reinheimer

Richard Park, not to be confused with Peter Parker, did an amazing job selling the membership package.

This is a great gym. It is clean, roomy and has everything. And the people are super nice. I am getting back into swimming now and I love it. I wished I had joined years ago.

I have really enjoyed my membership with the Alaska Club, and have usually felt like I get my money’s worth. In June, our daughter was diagnosed with cancer and life flighted out of state for 9+ months of treatment. When I called to discuss my membership, I was informed that I could not put my account on hold. And that if I cancel, I would need to pay for the rest of the month (understandable) and the NEXT MONTH. $150+ for an extra month of services you no longer have access to is A LOT when you’re now paying significant medical bills and travel expenses. I was disappointed in their business practice of money over people

Deborah Barta

Cool place, it has everything you want. Clean and well kept.

Sara Bergsagel

Worst customer service ever. If you bring a paying guest, The Club will still make them take a tour. When they go on the tour, the tour guide will belittle them for their choice not to join The Club. If you email or call people about your concerns, they will not respond. My blood boils a little every time I hear the words "The Alaska Club."

Aisha

Save your time, don’t book a tennis court after hours because the door will never unlock for you!!! If you call the 24/7 help number, they will literally do nothing to help.

SaulPaul Panasonic

its a physical experience but mine was pretty cool meaning its a place of sweat and work out , but they prices is way to much for me its expensive, and i was lucky to get the 12 day pass for $25 bucks thats like paying $2.83 dollars a entry, for 12 days, and the staff is rude at the east, location off Tudor and Boniface they gave me the TSA airport Check In, backround check mode, like i was a 2nd Class citizen, but it was more people in the locker rooms then people working out in the Club but my experience in the locker room was ok the hot water was on point, i give that a star but some Fabreez air Spray would make it a better experience of body odor, and the pool at the East Club was clean, even the Jacuzi, as well. and the weights and workout need some upgrading, and the West Club was more up graded weights and the bike group work out was on point, but the down fall of the west club is no pool, yea thats my experience at the most Expensive workout Club in Anchorage, Alaska. yea they try to give me the sign on for a year but dont what to owe them a fortune so had to stick with the 12 day pass cause its very hard to cancel membership at this club and cant wait till my lake otis YMCA reopen from being under construction for the piping of the entire building on the 2nd of the 2017 year hopping for the Best.

Ryanne Tyler

Terrible staff. The one girl at the desk gave me serious sass and was rude to me because I didn't reply to her "Good Morning" at 5am...sorry my brain doesn't function that early? Several other occasions the staff were very snippy at me for asking simple questions.

Just know the terms of the contract before you sign, there is crazy fine print here. Overall they provide what they claim but it is not cheap to be a member.

Works well for me, people seem angry at the financials. I use the gym, attend free yoga, always end the day with a hot sauna, get post workout drinks and snacks if I'm in a hurry. You can pay for multiple memberships, or one.

Scott Lawler

Their membership guidelines are a bit obtuse. There are numerous hurdles to hop through if you need to cancel. If you don't meet them all they hit you with a $500 fee. The reason they make it so difficult to get out of the contract is because they know that once you do, you will never go back to them.

Anna Anthony

It is way overpriced, but then this is Alaska. The front desk has terrible service. If it's close to your house, probably makes sense. If you can go anywhere else, go do that. It does have two squat racks, which is the only saving grace.

I love the Alaska Club, I signed up a year ago with JJ and right away I felt welcomed and cared for. The amenities here and classes helped me out to live a healthy and happy lifestyle. Every time I come in I am welcomed with a smile, if I have questions they are always answered. Unfortunately I am moving and had to cancel my membership, but I was extremely surprised as JJ when only giving my first name remembered me and could easily look up my information. This is a great place to not only work out, but make connections with couches, class teachers, fellow members and staff. It has been a second home to me through out my year here in Anchorage. On another note I recommend the hot yoga, especially for the cold winters in Alaska! :)

Jana Anderson

**Be AWARE** - the wording of their payment agreement is convoluted and vague. They will not notify you after your contract expires that they are continuing to bill you even though you believe that your membership has expired. Read the small print - you are releasing them from all claims even for negligence on the part of the club or its operators. Even with doctor's written verification of physical impairments they will continue to bill you to the end of your contract unless the documentation states that you are to abstain from all exercise. Once you sign and "drive off the lot" they couldn't care less. Worse than used care salesmen. Other than that...the facilities are nice to an extent and they do provide the services and schedule as stated but customer service and locker room cleanliness suffers. If you can afford it and don't mind being locked in...have fun. If you are concerned for any reason that you may not be happy there, affordability is in question or circumstances may change...DO NOT LET THEM PRESSURE you into signing that contract or the Payment Agreement. I wished I had paid better attention.

Aislinn Waite

I really like the Alaska Club East. Richard and JJ helped me get a memebership here. They were really welcoming and they gave me a tour. I really like the Alaska club because there are so many different activity’s you can do. In the gym part they have a whole room with turf which is perfect for workouts on the ground like core. Everyone is always really friendly and the tanning room/sauna/hot tub/and steam room are all really nice and relaxing.

DON’t GO TO THIS CLUB. I’m very unhappy do to the fact I was charged for a purchased I didn’t make. For over $200.00 instead of refunding me they gave me a credit after I request to get the money refunded in a check they pulled out another $200 out of my account. When I finally got the check they took out $30 for charges again I had not made. They said I was lying till I showed my bank statement then they gave me back the money. Don’t bother with the east club they will over charge you and customer service is awful.

Krovikx D

Excellent experience, personally no issues with the customer service. Great place for any workout, they have everything I needed.

Vincent Mago

Can't say if it's good or bad, somewhere between those lines meet... probably, with the prices they offer for membership initiation and the lack of a true good 'customer service'. Luckily the person who was in charge of me the first time was kind enough to have accommodate me with enthusiasm, til I've had a tiny concern about payment with the high price and surprise payments I was hearing from other people. I asked a different person at the time my original initiator was off, and boy did I not have a good time, it wasn't a disagreement type of discussion but the way the membership coordinator talks passive aggressively. I didn't even bothered looking at his/her name tag because I was so dissatisfied with how he/she handled the conversation and I just left with an 'okay' reply. But all in all, the gyms' one of my favorite because of conveniency.

Randy Giddings

Pretty good gym. Clean. Lots of equipment. Nice staff. They got a pool. Steam and sauna rooms. Good place

Recently rejoined the Alaska Club after trying out a few other clubs in town and I am happy to be back. All of the employees I have interacted with are helpful and friendly. The memberships are on the more expensive side but I am willing to pay for the additional perks that are offered at the club. The only thing I am disappointed about is they closed the express Muldoon club which was one of the main reason I joined back up. Now the only option I have for a late night workout is way across town.

Wow. They really know how to scam you out of your money. Even a month to month contract takes 90 days to cancel. But they won't tell you that when you sign up.

Customer service is really bad. We went to get information about membership; they sent us to have a seat and never came back.

I got charged over $300 for breaking my lease. I provided evidence that I was moving to San Antonio, TX but they said it wasn't valid information. I called a few times and left a message requesting what information I need to prove my move. Getting registered at the Texas DMV isn't something quick being in a big city. And they wanted the information the day before I flew to texas. I felt like i got sent up to pay the fee without proper guidance of what they needed and I still can't get a hold of their accounting through the phone.

Like all other Ak Clubs, ridiculously expensive and they BULLY you into yearly contracts.

I love bringing my grandkids here to the care center while I relax

RATHER GIVE 0 STAR IF I COULD. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! THEY ENJOY WASTING MY TIME WILL NOT GIVE ME THE RATES UNLESS I MAKE A VISIT THERE. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHY WE DONT HAVE MEMBERSHIP WITH THEM ANYMORE. ABSOLUTELY HATE THEIR INCONVENIENT, STUPID MARKETING STRATEGY.

Didn't like the experience when I came in today. I was about to enroll my dad and I for the ak club gym membership and I just got a really awkward feeling from all of the membership "advisors" working. It was a short chubby Mexican kid and a overweight white guy, who kept talking and talking so I couldn't even say a word. If they think those sales tactics are going to work on me, you have another thing coming. If you were just honest and real about the figures, I wouldn't be writing this review right now. Instead, you guys seemed like you were potentially hiding info that could eventually screw me over. Word of advice, just be real. The Mexican kid was clearly nervous since he was studdering his words and couldn't even look me in the eyes. I thought this experience was funny and most likely will never come back to Ak club east.
