REVIEWS OF Pacific Rim Athletics IN Alaska

Pacific Rim is an outstanding outfit. We moved to AK 1 year ago and researched gyms for our daughter. With Coach Lee and Coach David our daughter has thrived beyond our hopes. They are caring to the kids and yet they are firm in their teaching and technique. They bring out effort from the kids that they never realized. They are excellent in bringing out the best in the kids through tough coaching and constant encouragement. If you desire for your child to reach his/her full potential, I highly recommend Pacific Rim. Rick and Laurie

Hands down the`greatest health and fitness instruction in Alaska! I’ve lived internationally for 22 years, and have had numerous memberships at other facilities (here and abroad), but nothing comes anywhere close to Pacific Rim Athletics. If you want to challenge and surprise yourself at what you’re capable of, this is the place! As a middle-age guy, I thought I’d be buying a new sports car at my age, rather than learning gymnastics, calisthenics and break dancing for the first time in my life. Coach Lee is remarkable...I’ve never met such a well-rounded, experienced and respectful instructor. I’m achieving things I never imagined I’d be able to do. Even my teenage cousins are amazed.

My daughter has been attending Pacific Rim Athletics for almost a year now and I have never been more proud. The team at Pacific Rim has always been welcoming and knowledgeable and when my daughter got injured (from skying) the wanted her to continue coming in and work around her injury. They gladly make up days if she has to miss them and help make up a work out routine if she goes on vacation. This is a place to go if you are serious about getting fit and doing it safely. I'm so glad we found them.

This is not your cookie cutter gym. It is unique and challenging, an investment, a mentorship, a community. It is welcoming of all ages and physical levels. The coaches are dedicated, passionate, knowledgeable and completely professional. My daughter loves coming here and has grown in confidence, strength and skills. I am excticed to see how far my daughter can grow with Coach Lee and his team.

The staff at Pacific Rim are very knowledgeable. They care about you and want to help you achieve your goals. I am almost 49 years old and have a lot of health issues to overcome. Shoulder, wrists and back problems. I have been to 9 classes and within that time, I can see great strides. In my last class, I accomplished 3 exercises that I could not do when I walked through their front door. I was so elated! For example, I could not even hang from the bar without putting my feet on the floor to support my body. It was causing a lot of pain in my shoulders. (Side note: I was once told that I needed surgery for my shoulders because of many years of pitching.) I can now, hang from the bar and bring my knees up! I am proud of myself and proud of the team at Pacific Rim. This gym is like no other gym! I have a 10 year old, who took one year of gymnastics and one year of a ninja course in the previous state we lived in. He has learned more in his Parkour class at Pacific Rim than he did in the last two years of his other classes. My whole family attends this gym. We all enjoy it and happy to be learning so much. I am not going to lie, it is hard work, but well worth the rewards.

I joined this gym about 8 months ago after having a baby and dealing with a back injury. The Team has been WONDERFUL at catering to my needs to progress safely and are so welcome to everybody of all abilities as long as the drive and heart is there. Each coach really puts there all into this gym so expectation is that you do as well, and I love that! The environment is filled with driven students that push each other because of this. I completely understand the 1-to-1 with Coach Lee because he really does dedicate his time and full energy to each student as they need and, as he deserves, he really tries to make sure the students hearts' are into it. To make it worth his time but also to value the other student's time there. Both him and his wife are wonderful parents themselves, and along with the rest of the coaches, are wonderful people that work hard to make this gym the best they can. Coach Lee is also very educated and teaches with a strong foundation of information. He teaches beyond "his way" of how to do things. He provides very in depth physiological explanations to how the body works when appropriate and how to build off strength. Not just, "do a back flip." The environment is so positive and encouraging. Every sport has risks and each person is responsible for themselves with how they follow through instructions. At this gym, though, they push you to work harder but, in no way that I've seen, push you into injury. In fact, all the coaches are very cautious about how things are done and take safety extremely serious! For somebody who began here with a high risk for further spinal injury and who also works in medicine, I assure you, I was paying close attention to the safety aspect. I would recommend this gym to everybody! Truly helps build a strong foundation of strength wherever you want to take it and is especially wonderful for children to start out their fitness journey!

Same problem as everyone else. My son went there since they opened. Now they want to interview us in some creepy meeting to tell us the cost. My wife tried but was told she was not allowed to talk it over with me. She had to commit right then and there. They refuse to give any pricing. Was a good place but can no longer recommend since they refuse to give you pricing unless to waste your time with a meeting. And I know other people have gotten different pricing. And thanks for disrespecting my wife, you helped in our desission to go elsewhere.

Pacific rim is more than a gym it is an opportunity to feel strong, graceful, and confident. As an adult getting back into shape after surgery I realized life is to short wasting it doing activities that don’t give you joy or surrounding yourself with judging people worried only about their appearance. At pacific rim I am surrounded by positive encouraging people that push me to be a better person both inside and out. Even on my worst days I go there and leave feeling stronger than I walked in. Coach Alexis, coach David and coach Michelle are encouraging and inspiring. You really need to experience it yourself - unleash you inner child...

Three of my children have been going to this gym for over two years and they have made incredible progress in strength, agility, and athleticism. Coach Lee and his staff are completely professional and, while they speak to the kids individually to adjust training to suit their strengths and weaknesses and to continuously challenge them, at no time are they ever alone with the children. Gym is one big open area with a large back room still mostly visible from the parent area. Cost is commensurate with a high quality program - I think it is an excellent value for the level of instruction they recieve and the staff works hard to reinforce positive values and encourage the students to encourage their peers. I like the conservative dress code (shirt must cover torso, nothing overtly revealing or trashy.) Not speaking for the staff here but drama queens and prima-donnas should look elsewhere (they generally self-deselect after a while anyway when they realize none of the other kids are interested in their drama - these guys are just here to train!) I have seen students of all ages (kids, teens, young adults and parents) grow in their self-confidence. Highly recommended for any age looking to increase thier core strength and overall fitness in a family environment.

My daughters and I joined about 2 months ago and we are loving every minute of it. Both my daughters have shown huge progress in just a short amount of time. The coaches are great at personally tailoring exercises for every fitness level. I was probably in the worst shape I have ever been in when I started and I never have once felt like I didn't belong or that I was being pushed to do something I couldn't. The coaches there get to know you personally and take an interest in everybody's progress. Class sizes are small which allows the coaches to have time to coach each person personally. The classes always have variety which I love. You never get bored because you don't know exactly what you will be doing that day. Lastly, the online program that Lee designed for adults has been a great thing for me. It's a wonderful program that has a layout but lets you grow and develop at your own pace. The group is extremely encouraging, never once have I felt bad or discouraged by anyone in that group. Its a positive place, Coach Lee leads the way by his constant encouragement.

Coach Lee is an outstanding coach and mentor for my kids. The people that gave him a bad review were not his actual clients and have not experienced his integrity and hard work as a coach. Obviously the gym is high end and services clientele that not only afford it, but are committed to their development. So basically no whiners. It holds back the group as a whole. It is really unfortunate Google allows trolls to post reviews that could have such a negative impact on a family that does not deserve that. Especially when they are false statements and innuendo of such an awful accusation. (And it’s so untrue) Coach Lee has the utmost integrity and has the respect of everyone that knows him personally.

I joined Pacific Rims 5 Months Ago with a goal in mind. My first Goal was to learn a Backflip. This was something I have never done before. 5 weeks Later I was able to conquer that goal. The Staff in the Pacific Rims are knowledgeable and trustworthy. I enjoy the community thats build within the facility. Everyone is very motivating , encouraging and most importantly the endless support not only from the staff but also from the community. I have watched children, adult, Mom's, Grandma's and Grandpa's even making progress daily. The facility caters to all age group. If you want to learn flips, parkour, cirque, power move and breakdancing, then look no further, this gym is right for you!. #killersmileninja

Concerns me a great deal that “Coach Lee” wants to meet one on one with small children to “evaluate and interview” them before allowing them to take a gymnastics class or even giving prices. To me this means he’s gathering data to determine which children are most vulnerable either in a socioeconomic or self worth position. Different pricing, instead of just published pricing, got super offended when I asked if FBI background checks were ran on his staff. Said he didn’t need to do that since they all went to church together. I ran straight out of there. Scary.

My daughter has been going to this gym for almost a year, and she loves being part of the Pacific Rim family. She loves it so much she drives from South Anchorage several times a week. They teach tumbling, cirque, parkour, core strength and so much more. The staff is great at getting to know each and every student, young and old, and teaches to their skill level. The environment is wide open, no one is alone, and family is welcome to come watch. I have never seen or heard about any "drama" that comes with most programs, everyone is very supportive of one another. They also offer a chance for international training and travel for those that are interested. This really is a gym for everyone from those just starting an exercise program to those who are serious athletes.

Pacific Rim is a top quality business. They care about their clients, spending a great amount of time with you to make sure you understand not only the skills you are learning but the foundations of achieving those skills in a safe environment. They constantly challenge you! I was a gymnast in high school and it is so exciting to get back to that type of training and do skills that I have not been able to do for 30 years! The gym is very family centric. Parents are allowed to stay and watch their children at class and they are always available for questions. They have a fun program that challenges you mentally and physically! Coach Lee, Coach David, Coach Michelle and Coach Alexis are great!

I don’t know how good Lee is like a coach, I guess he could have good skills and knowledge, but I know one thing, he is trying to take your money more then anything. I seen his ad about 1 free class and starting to search his web site and was so impressed but one thing was confusing me, he didn’t show the price ( after first class for me it was $4000 a year and You need to do first payment for $1000! Then he starts asking me questions that made me feel uncomfortable. Lee was nice and showed me a couple tricks to impress me and then sat me down like he was giving me an interview. He started asking me questions like what part of Anchorage Do I live in and where my husband works and how much he makes. Then he asked me how serious I am about working out ( answer was “I want to do it, but what is your price “) Then he started trying to sell me on his program ( what usually all salesman tell you when they try to sell you products from TV market) - our place isn’t like a gym, it’s like a college and we’re invested so much energy and power on our students and etc and it’s cost $4000 for a year but if you deposit $1000 we will give you discount of $1000 - so..., -I said- I would ask my husband ( which I wouldn’t because it’s stupid asking your husband about his monthly salary) - Do you wanna call him now- said coach Lee ( it’s an old sellers training tool, don’t let the client leave until he buys your products because only 2 of 5 clients come back) - I said - no I better to talk my husband face to face ( because I just wanted to leave this place and that man was pushing on me and making me uncomfortable) After this conversation he was just absolutely disrespectful turned around and lost interest in me.it was so upsetting because I liked the place and was so excited to finally find good place with really good workout and then he goes and disrespects me like that. So my point is if you want to go there don’t tell him where you live where you work and don’t park your car right next to the gym. If he sees you have nice things he will try to take advantage!

This is a great academy run by people who are ready to help reach your goals- if you are ready. Don't expect a normal gym out of this place, but you can definitely expect results.

My primary reason for joining Pacific Rim was to "rehab" a shoulder that underwent surgery 8 years ago. I thought that a second surgery was in my future until I started training at Pacific Rim. After 10 months, the strength & mobility that has returned to the joint has been pretty incredible! I've learned a few cool tricks along the way, too. Special thanks to Lee and David, my two primary coaches at Pacific Rim.

I agree with all the 1 star posters about the arbitrary pricing. To go to this gym you will meet with Lee one on one. He will excite you with his sale speech to get you to join. Then once you are roped in and have given a verbal commitment he gives you an arbitrary yearly price (pretty much based on the car you drive, where you live and what you do for a living). I was quoted 4K for 6 weeks or 7K for a year to be able to go 3 times a week. If I were to sign up right then he would take 1000 dollars off the membership price. After I spoke with a few members, their membership pricing was anywhere from $1200 a year for an individual to 3000K. When I asked Lee about his arbitrary pricing he wouldn’t talk to me and referred me to his office staff. Additionally, there are no makeups. So say you go on vacation, sick, etc you are screwed out of those training days. It would just be like if you were a member at the AK club- if you miss, you’re SOL Here are my pros and cons about the gym Pros (because you should always start with the positives) 1. There isn’t really a gym in town that offers tumbling and Circq in one facility. 2. David one of the staff members is very supportive and positive. 3. Adults are welcome Cons (besides the arbitrary pricing) 1. Lee’s coaching technique ability really really worries me. Lee is setting himself up to have a catastrophic injury. He’s not teaching proper roundoffs, twisting movements or flipping techniques. This is definitely a “chuck it” gym and pray that you don’t break anything. I saw quite a few injuries while I was there with individuals not ready to perform the skill. 2. He has a facebook group for all his adult members for weight loss. He gives weight loss advice, nutrition advice, etc. The last time I checked, he’s not a registered dietitian. 3. This is not a gym for a de conditioned individual. You’ll end up with way more injuries than it’s worth. Your money would be better well spent with a personal trainer or taking an adult tumbling class at arctic gymnastics. AND it would be CHEAPER! Arctic Gymnastics has two adult tumbling classes. They are on a punch card system. Additionally, the adult instructors were former gymnasts have many years coaching. They have belts to learn flips safely, tumble tracks to protect the longevity of wrists and ankles, and most importantly, no creepy interview or arbitrary secretive pricing!

Pacific Rim Athletics is a unique gym, the only of its kind in Alaska. But what makes it really special, are the owners Lee, Alexis and their coaches including David, Michelle, and Mr. Spring. They have amazing insight into body mechanics and how to identify your "weak links" (and strengths) and help you overcome them. I'm a physician, and have a lot of knowledge, but I had minimal insight into my own body mechanics, until I started going there. I'm also what you might call one of their "older" students (over 50), and oh my, have I become inflexible. I came to a point where I realized I needed to start moving in ways I hadn't considered for a long time. The body is meant to move; when we stop moving, we start dying, whatever the cause; some reasons can't be helped, but many can. I believe God made us to move, and I needed to get going. However, I had body movement deficits that I didn't even realize I had, or that I thought were insurmountable due to age and accumulated injury. With the help of the the coaches there, I'm starting to overcome them. My teenage children also go to Pacific Rim Athletics, and what they have accomplished over the last couple of years is nothing short of amazing. I'm so glad everyday that Pacific Rim Athletics set up shop here in Eagle River, and that we have access to such a fantastic gym and coaching staff. (They also have an online entity though!!) Pacific Rim Athletics and the coaches are infused with positive energy. If you want to learn how to move better, and I mean Really move, (this is aggressive, dynamic movement we are discussing here) expand what you thought was possible for yourself, this is the place to go. 1 Corinthians 6:20 English Standard Version (ESV) 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

My daughter has been training at Pacific Rim for over 2 years. Over this time we have seen her confidence, strength and skills continue to grow and improve. When I asked my daughter what she likes about the gym, her response was, "I have been to a number of gyms and at Pacific Rim I am doing skills that I never thought I could do. The coaches are great. Not only do they explain to me how to do skill, they can show me." If you are looking for a gym with quality coaching and a positive atmosphere, I highly recommend Pacific Rim Athletics.
