my personal experience was horrible! They would not take my membership out on auto pay, they cut off my lock saying I did not pay because they can't do their job and control their accounting. Jen has the personality of "Sand Paper" her partner is rude and there is no customer service what so ever! I knew a lot of their old employees who left and they all have nothing nice to say about the experience. they all said all they did was accuse them of stealing and there is no leadership what so ever! I left and went to a real gym. been happy happy happy :)

As others have mentioned their membership contracts are not transparent and they will charge you forever without a written cancellation form even if you think your contract has expired. Very unethical business.

The gym overall is great for those serious about lifting but the owner is terrible!!! I bought a week pass just to try it out but then I started noticing unauthorized transactions on my bank account from Alaska Fitness. I never signed a contract, i never even sign up for a membership!! I called, emailed and texted the owner and never ever heard anything back. When I went in there to figure out what was going on the guy at the front desk was a deer in headlights like he had no idea why this was happening. I asked to talk to the owner but she wasn't there at that time. I wrote a note and watched him put it in her mailbox but STILL NEVER heard anything back and I went back in and wrote a couple more notes (due to her not being there) but same thing, no answer. The only thing that I was left to do was call my bank and dispute these payments which I didn't want to do and left it as my last resort. I was very disappointed as I liked this gym due to its atmosphere and the fact that I could lift without any judgment but I will NOT be going back there due to poor treatment by the money hungry stealing owner. P.S I'm not the only one that had this problem, she has done this to multiple people. I'd rather see this business fail than see someone get away with scamming and stealing from people.

They have all the basics and a pretty friendly staff. Child care workers are friendly. But it is cramped and the parking lot is horrible. For the price it is still a very reasonable option.

Selection of equipment is good, and it is in good condition. People, both staff and other members, are pleasant and nice to be around. The towel service is a nice touch. The number and variety of classes is good for those who wish to participate. We are quite happy with our membership here, and we have been members of many other gyms. We chose this one for proximity to where we live and work, plus the amenities. The experience has been a good one and keeps getting better.

I'm in a months-long dispute to correct being billed for dates long after I canceled. While the staff is nice, they are unable to deal with billing isues; and the Owner will not return calls, refused to speak with me when she was in her office, and has failed to contact me via email. At this point it looks as if they are intentionally stealing from people, but I truly hope to be proven wrong. Avoid this gym like the plague.

Very deceiving. Went in only looking for a 6 month contract, talked with team member and signed the papers being too trusting. Was signed up for a year contract and now can’t get out of it. Make sure you pay attention when signing up and you’re getting exactly what you want. I made the mistake of thinking verbal communication was enough. Also would like to point out that this also happened to a friend of mine but he was able to get out of the contract because he moved AND there are more reviews similar to my situation from recently, even though the owner tried telling me I am the only person this has happened to...

Facility is open 24/7 — the height of availability. Invariably, everyone I've seen working at ALASKA FITNESS is competent and congenial without being smarmy. They're good people and always helpful. The gym offers a wide variety of exercise machines. I especially like the new machines installed this year. The people using them, the gym rats, are serious without being judgmental. No body nazis, no more-fit-than-thou airs here. We're all working out only to work out.

Horrible ownership. Added my son to my account and they signed him up for a year (I have a 6 month contract). The owner did apologize and said both people I talked tto were new and didn't know what tjey were doing but then said she would make me pay for the year contract. On top of all that, they have over charged me multiple times. When I contacted them, the owner said she refunded me.... she actually charged me AGAIN!! I had to call back to hear her tell me she hit the wrong key because the software is new. I have also sent the owner a letter revoking her right to take money out of my count, but she still did. As other people have said, she is not above stealing. Please go to a different gym; one that won't charge you multiple times a month or be deceiving when signing up or (simply) adding someone to your membership.

Great value for the price with options to pay monthly under contract or for a full year in a lump sum. If you want a place with all the equipment you need for a serious workout, plus good amenities like sauna/steam room access and towel service, but don't want to pay the price of other gyms this is the place for you. The crowd is mostly regulars of all types (genders, body types, skills/abilities) that create a welcoming, non-intimidating environment. Staff is always friendly and the owner is intimately involved with the day to day operations. A+!

A Damn fine gym for serious lifters. 24/7 with key card, 3 squat racks, sauna rooms and good personal trainers. Not for the PF crowd. AK fitness also has surprising convenient child care options (with a 90 minute time limit per day). I've been a member on and off as geography permits for just under 10 years and in that time I've had many postivpo interactions with that staff, and never had anyone try to sell me something I didn't need or don't want. So much better than the local coperate gyms, or the PF set.

Do not ever put your debit card on file for auto payments, and better yet don't ever come here. There are better gyms in Alaska that actually APPRECIATE your business and won't screw you over. I haven't stepped foot in this gym since February and cancelled my membership then, giving them 30 days notice as my full year was up in March. It's now late July and I've still been getting charged 84.95 since then. Jen, naturally as a shady business owner, is refusing to remedy the situation and is trying to keep my $340 she so wrongfully STOLE from me saying my husband checked into her facility June 1st. We were in Talkeetna for my birthday and stayed in Denali National Park -- so no, we did not check in and should be refunded the full amount. Will I be? No, because this isn't the first time nor the last that she will do this to people. I read reviews such as this on Yelp and I should've known better. Shame on this business for treating your customers so terribly.

The Gym equipment and everything is ok. But the billing is messed up. They over charged me constantly and then fought me for the refunds. Even after leaving the gym the are still billing me. Have to cancel credit card!

I have had a horrible experience with management. I actually really like the trainers, all of them seem knowledgeable and eager to help. This isn’t enough to compensate for their shady business practices. I regret not reading these comments to begin with, because it would of saved me a lot of money. I misunderstood the contract and thought I signed up for a 1 year membership and to start off I would try 1 month trainer. Turns out if you select a trainer during your contract, they sign you up for a year. 30 days later I told them I can’t afford a trainer at this time so I won’t be needing one for the next month. They told me I was locked into a year contract with a trainer, but I could freeze the account and resume it later. I agreed and have the emails to prove it. 3 months later my account still hasn’t been frozen, I paid $750 in total, I was told that they would give me store credit, I received 0 store credit, and now they aren’t answering my calls or email. After talking with Jen via email she actually refunded me and took the trainer out of my contract. If possible I would take this review down. It was a hassle getting in touch with her admittedly, but in the end It worked out

If you're looking for a variety of workout equipment then Alaska Fitness has you covered. Alaska Fitness is packed with weight machines and cardio machines. While I think it's great that you can find so many different types of machines here the lack of space between the machines makes the workouts a little too intimate. When you can shake the hand of the person next to you and smell their BO it's just too close for me. During peak hours this gym is busy, especially at the dumbbells and lockers. Alaska Fitness fee per month is one of the lowest in town and it's open 24/7; those are very good reasons to join. Some of the equipment is in rough shape, but the management is always looking for upgrades from other gyms. Alaska Fitness has a reputation of being the "Body Builder Gym". I think this a little unfair because I see typical body sizes here. I'm thinking 2 out of every 10 members look muscular here. The members do look healthy, so maybe you should join and learn how to look healthy too? Do you hear grunting noises here? Sometimes. But grunting is a normal response to heavy resistance. You won't look weird for pushing yourself here, in fact I think other members will gain energy watching you push yourself. Plenty of parking here, but the parking is very wonky.

SECOND UPDATE 12/28/16: Still getting charged. Disappointed beyond words. Are things this bad in AK that people have resorted to stealing? UPDATE: Well, spoke too soon. After being told 'Ok, no problem, I will end it for you" I get charged. I thought it was just a mistake so I reached out to remedy the problem. That's when I get told about this fee and proof of moving papers and just a whole spiel. I'm extremely disappointed. I was SO, SO pleasantly surprised when I wrote my initial review. I thought, "Now that is how you do business." Back to the present .. Don't tell a customer you're letting them out of a contract and then charge them without telling them. I am disputing the transaction and my bank has opened a claim. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** Saved my life while I was in Anchorage. I loved this gym. When I told Jen I was moving back to Florida and could not stay on she let me out of my membership with no hassle and no questions asked. If I ever return I am coming straight back here.
