I was born in Mobile and lived here until 2009 when I left. At that point the 'purple gym' had taken over and Mobiles gym scene was effectively dead if you were into serious lifting.
I was visiting family this week and needed a gym to go to as I normally do heavy weight training 5 days a week and didn't want to screw up my rhythm and progress. I tried this gym out for a few days.
This is easily the best gym I've ever been in short of an athlete gym at a University. They have everything a regular gym has but dial it up to 11 for the weight trainers in the area.
They've got 3 racks complete with deadlift platforms and band pegs, as well as 8 rack stations that can also be used for Olympic lifts, Crossfit-style lifts, or just squats and deadlifts. They also use westside-style peg spacingfor hangers and arms making it easy to get everything dialed in right for a PR. There are tons of bumper plates all over the place too, they're not hidden. Like at other gyms. I think I counted 5 flat benches, 2 inclines, 1 seated press, and 1 decline as well as tons of hammer-strength machines for isolation exercises. Dumbells are the bumper type and go up to 125 many with 2.5lb increments.
Their price is incredible too, it's far less than what I pay for LA Fitness back home with triple the equipment. This gym rocks and I cannot recommend it highly enough. When I visit during the holidays I will definitely come back.
