We enjoyed the course. Was in good shape in March 2019. Learned it is owned by the residents. One owner was out on the course performing maintenance, was very friendly and had open discussions about the course and the commitment from the owners.

These guys are outstanding, not only the nicest golf course in South Texas scenery wise, but also happens to have one the best crew of staff I’ve ever encountered at a golf course. I left my sports bag with cash, wallet, credit cards. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate me up until the moment it had been found and returned, with no items missing. Truly outstanding, thank you guys.

Had a tournament on September 23 2019. Course was is best shape In several years. Staff was very accommodating. Head Pro made an effort to make sure all was set up according to plan. Course was in best shape we have seen in 10 years. Highly recommend.

South Padre Island GC is a superb golf course with an awesome links-style layout. There are stunning views of the island as you play right along the coastline on the front nine, with a number of very special and memorable holes. It is certainly the best golf course design I have seen in the area. The course is in great shape and is continuing to improve, with greens rolling very true. All staff members were very warm and welcoming too. Definitely would recommend this place!

Front 9 on this golf course is beyond beautiful with views of the Laguna Madre, South Padre Island, the Causeway and birds (heron, spoonbills, woodpeckers, seagulls, owls.. just to name a few). Then you get to the back 9 and the golf course begins to challenge your game. Take time to enjoy the beauty of the course and coastal sounds/ winds of the bay.

Thanks to Bracy and SPIGC for hosting our South Texas Association Health Underwriters golf outing. Our members & guest who attended loved the course - which was in great shape - and the staff was first-class. We are looking forward to hosting our event there next year. On a personal note, I' can't wait to get back and play again. Holes 3, 4, 5 and 15 are my favorite. Thanks Bracy and your staff for making our event a hit. We heard nothing but praise on the great day everyone had. See you again in the Spring.

This is a $15.00 course with a $50.00 price tag. I golfed her January of 2016 and it was in bad shape. The fairways were rough, the greens were marginal. I won't give my money away for this charity again.

Having been forced by Hurricane Michael to abandon Panama City Beach this winter and some of our favorite golf courses, we joined this wonderful South Padre Island Course and feel we have stumbled in paradise. The significant improvements made over the recent past clearly show in the course’s great condition. Right from our first game, we loved this course! But it is the staff and other club members who have instantly made us feel welcomed and right at home. In only 3 weeks, we have already met many wonderful couples who enthusiastically included us in all their activities. Our pending decision on whether to return to Panama City Beach next winter has now been made very difficult.

A few complaints aside from the mediocre course: 1. On the website, it lists you get a free round a week before or after your birthday if you sign up for their newsletter. I did and was told it was only a 10% discount when I showed up. Okay, not a huge deal. 2. Was stopped by a Marshall on the way out to the first tee to check bags. Apparently every player needs their own clubs. My buddy was planning on just using mine for the day to save on space since we were on vacation with a small car. The Marshall told us to go rent clubs from the shop. When we went back, the attendant was rude and wouldn’t even look to see if they had any of the “non-premium clubs” because “he didn’t know if they had any left”. After multiple times going back and forth asking where we can look he said “they’re nice clubs so just get the premium ones”...for much more money of course. 3. After paying my own fees, I was then told by the gentleman that I MUST be wearing a collared shirt. This was the same attendant that first took my card to pay for the round. Why did I need a $50 polo AFTER I already paid for the round? Oh, but the women of the group “could slide” along with the other guy that also didn’t have a polo. 4. Upon going to the cart shed to get a second cart for our second group, we were supposed to pay a “rider fee”. We were never told before of this fee. The moral of the story? The course is mediocre. The staff is, at best, ignorant at what the rules actually are and at worst nickel and dime you after you’ve already paid. The greens were pretty rough but the views were nice. It just shouldn’t take four runs to the clubhouse and four transactions to get to play a round of golf. Definitely won’t return and I don’t recommend anyone else try if avoidable.

Greens: POOR. Slow & hard. Course layout (front nine): ABOVE AVERAGE. One par 4 was short, like 265, to the green, but you had to fly the ocean. Good risk/reward. Sand traps: POOR. They were more like hard pan *dirt* traps. Hit a fairway trap after my drive on 9, and after hitting to the green out of it, I had about a half pound of mud stuck to the bottom of each of my shoes. Service: POOR. I got behind the women's league on 6. After taking 45' to finish the next 3 holes and bailing after seeing the traffic jam at the 10th tee box, I called the pro shop and asked if I could jump ahead of them and then come back and finish the holes I skipped, and they said no since the tee sheet was full. I then asked for a refund for the difference between the 18 holes I paid for and the 9 I actually played, since it would take another 3 hours to finish the back. They refused, only offering a rain check. After explaining that I'm on vacation and won't be able to come back, they still refused. I pointed out that their apology was not as meaningful as the partial refund. They admitted that it was about the money, so I was none too pleased, especially given their "full tee sheet." They're attitude really made me feel like it was a "stick it to the tourist" sentiment on their part, both in tone and in action.

OK if you're in the area but I definitely wouldn't make the drive from a long distance just to play there. Pro shop staff wasn't overly friendly. Treasure Hills in Harlingen is a better choice.

Very interesting layout, water carries and waste areas. Fit and finish could be better, such as traps with little to no sand. Greens are pretty shaggy though in good shape. Basically needs more play/revenue to support improved maintenance.

Continuous improvements are being made and it is showing in the quality of course it has turned into. Even through renovation of the restaurant, they offered food and drinks inside the pro shop. My husband I played golf on Saturday and we haven’t played there in over a year. All I can say is WOW, they have done remarkable improvements to the golf course. This golf course is really not so beautiful as it could appear. The view is great ok but the grass is bad and the greens are also not well done. We paid about 35 dollars for 9 holes and I have already paid less for 18 holes nicer than that.

I like to play here cause it's an ok course close to SPI and Port Isabel. However, there are quite a few bald spots and wear on the course. I think it's played heavily during the winter by all the retirees. Definitely not the nicest course I've played but also far from the worst.
