I showed up for 9 holes at 2:45pm. The guy in the office said I couldn't rent a cart because he didn't want to have to clean it when he wants to get off work. Not the best thing to hear when you're recovering from a knee injury. I thought he was joking. I've decided to reserve my business and money to a more respectful course.

I grew up here (Progress Downs) and learned how to play this game of golf on this course.... ...but I will NOT be returning. On a warm-up practice period on the putting green, I encountered a blatantly drunk individual. He acted like he owned the place "because his friend was the GM"... He swung his putter at me and my father, threw my dads golf bag and thus, should have been asked to leave. When management came out, they turned to us, like we were the instigators and the problem. WE were asked to leave. Leaving with us were four other elders who supported us and came to our defense. It was ridiculous to say the least. Had he connected while swinging his club at us, we would have had to pursue legal remedies and I am certain it would have been ugly... ... thankfully we just walked tall and decided to never return. There are plenty of good courses in the area and for that reason, we will not return to this course and will never recommend anyone to it again.

I had a recent fitting with Jason, club fitter with Red Tail Golf Center. What an experience. I really enjoy golf and yearn to improve. My driver was older and off the shelf, ill fitting with what turned out to be an incorrect shaft stiffness and loft. While I knew the driver wasn't quite right, it was a known bad and I could deal with it. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and end up with something worse. Jason made sure this was not the case. Jason went through all of my clubs, making sure they were the right length and pitched upright correctly for my specific body measurements. Existing irons and hybrids good to go. He reviewed my wedges and recommended three new bladed Clevelands--loft through gap wedge. Then he went to work on covering yardage gaps on longer clubs--to make sure I had logical gaps in carry and total yardage as we stepped up six iron through driver. There were a lot of swings, analysis with the TracMan and a ton of patience by Jason. After 2.5 hours, we were both satisfied. I walked out with loads of confidence, a new driver, five wood and three top of the line wedges. Time and money well spent. Because of their volume, they have the clubs in store ready to go. No waiting around for clubs to be shipped by a manufacturer. Great experience at Red Tail.

Driving range is pretty solid

Ryan Bamford

Good course design, awful slow pace of play. They tend to pack groups on top of each other a lot. Pro shop is small, but the tent sales are nice. Prices are fair for golf equipment. Range is cool and big. Could do without a lot of the staff. Worth checking out. Maybe you will have a better experience?

Mike Sigler

Best club buying experience I have ever had. Total waste of money going anywhere else around SW Washington and all of Oregon to buy equipment. Make an appointment and get fitted. They know what they are doing and understand how to get it right for you. Everyone else is just trying to sell you what they have in stock. Can't figure out why all the new clubs off the rack seem the same, get fitted and you will understand.

Kunal Patel

Top-notch training facility

Brett Blackw

Every time I go they have tee times that are 4 minutes apart and the starter always urges us to get right behind the group in front of us. First hole is a super short par 4 you can't bring a driver out and hole 2 is a par 3 so all day you're running behind, will take you over 6 hours to complete course almost any part of the day. 3 groups every hole haven't even finished 18 holes there in 3 attempts. Sub par conditions on the course itself, staff is never friendly or helpful. Too expensive for right next to a mall, go some where else if you want to spend that much money. DO NOT GOLF HERE. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the driving range is big and usually open if classes aren't going on and the tent sales are decent but don't expect real help when there.

Bill Wenger

Never been but with all these horrible reviews, I see no point. Hopefully their owner/manager reads these and addresses some obvious employee issues.

I can usually find golf items I "need" at 50% off Update edit - 10/20/18. I was custom fitted for a complete set of Callaway clubs in December of 2018. RedTail said I could come back for swing analysis on their Trackman. Ten months later I took them up on their offer and they welcomed me back with textbook customer service. Alex, one of their swing technicians set me up immediately and after hitting a few balls gave me a couple of tips to improve my swing - different backswing plane and dropping down in the slot. RedTail proved to me it is a business that really cares about me and my game.

BJ E

I love this place, it has the nicest range on this side of town with 2 levels and you can play into the evening with the great lighting. I was hitting balls one afternoon and Brett, a coach at Redtail, walked past and watched me hit a ball. He felt inclined to give me some pointers and next thing I knew he taught me for an hour. For free! Not only that but his tips worked and have helped my game since. I am going to sign up for lessons with him. The only thing I wish they would improve is to have a token machine on the range. Everytime I want to hit I have to go into the golf shop and wait in line to get my tokens because they are always busy. It would be great if you could get tokens right on the range and avoid the pro shop line. That's my only complaint but it is great here and I am happy to have such a great place nearby.

It wouldn't let me give zero stars but thats what it should be. Paid for green fee $30, cart $14, drinks. With the cart girl $20, snack and drinks at the clubhouse $32....total almost $100. BTW i generally play twice a week for the last 15years. I was in a group of four that spent the same. At the end of the day a grumpy old pro, Stu, comes up an tosses our clubs off the cart and says its late we are closing I want to go home. Complained to the manager, Craig, who said all as I can do is apologize. Spend your hard earn cash on another course that respects the customer. Do not expect anything less than disappointment and over charging if you do go here. Course condition....poor, rate of play......deathly slow, staff.....angry unsatisfied hacks. I vote with my dollars, see ya Red Snail !!!!!

Tim McBride

Great golf gear with great prices.

Millard Ellingsworth

I think this is one of the harder courses in the area. Definitely felt I needed to go practice more before playing again. A bit pricey compared to some similar courses. Very nicely stocked pro shop.

Over the weekend I was having some putting issues. Jason Bennett, worked with me on the putting practice green, it was determined the 34 inch used putter I purchased was too short. He lengthened to 35 1/2. Small things make big difference. Putts are now true with NO pulls. Jason is so good, makes corrections feel painless, and rewarding to the operator.

William Ollar

This is my first experience being fitted for clubs. I was very impressed with the courtesy, professionalism, and technology used throughout the experience. Ben, who fitted me, spent two hours supplying various clubs, analyzing each club in video-statistical detail, and together we found the perfect clubs for me. Looking at the original sticker prices, I got a lot of club for the money (50% off). All in all, I walked away with more knowledge and a great set of clubs, at a great deal. I give Ben and RedTail a big thumbs up.

Brian Gilbride

Fran Taylor

Can be very slow play! Looks and feels like the middle of town golf course. I think they just jam it up for the revenue and I guess I understand that but doesn't leave you with that "boy, you gotta play this course" feeling. Especially bad if you get a company tournament ahead of you. The pro shop is however, one of the best I've seen and I will always look there before I buy but the always too busy to talk staff lessens the overall experience.

Feras Almalki

Joshua Dunham

I had a great experience getting fitted for new clubs. I went thinking I knew what I wanted and had tried a few styles on my own. The Pro I was working with was Cole and he tried to bend my will to my golf game but through some coaching and science on the screen got me fitted with the proper clubs that felt great and a brand I had never really considered. He made sure they worked for my current game and that I still had room for improvement. Again I had a great time with this and would recommend this fitting to anyone.

Erik Schulz

As a pro shop and driving range, redtail is pretty nice. Pro shop isn't cheap, but they're very helpful and knowledgeable. The driving range is good, although busy at times. The actual course is awful. The greens are not well kept, and are for the most part long par 5's without much character. If you're going to redtail, only use the driving range.

Erik Jarman

Anthony Kershaw

Driving range is handy and easy to access

Michael Tulipat

Good golf course.

Taylor Mallard

I usually play this course once or twice a year. A decent course during the summer months (it gets super soggy in the rainy months due to poor drainage.) One of the longer and more difficult courses in the area (particularly from the blue or tips). Be one of the first groups off the tee in the morning or plan on a 5 hour plus round. If you're looking for a better course Pumpkin Ridge, The Reserve, Heron Lakes (either course), Chehalem Glen, Stone Creek and Camas Meadows are all better courses.

James Godon

Nate

Felt awfully rushed the entire way, didn't get a chance to enjoy the course/scenery. Not a good place for beginner to intermediates. Just came from forest hills that was the experience I was hoping to show my cousin coming into town.

Simon Rodgers

I called a couple days ago and asked BJ how much a driver fitting was, assuming I don't buy a club. He said they would not charge for the fitting. I drove an hour to get my free fitting and was told they are not free. A huge waste of time due to his lie. I am happy to pay for a fitting, I'm on my way right now to do so elsewhere. But I don't appreciate being lied to.

Jordan Fisher

If you are looking for new golf equipment this is the place to go. The selection is massive and their facility provides the best technology to get you fit with the right club. Jason Burnett helped me find the perfect club for my game, he took his time and truly cares about getting you the best club for you.

Mocha225

Amazing pro shop with good prices and selection..... But the course is in horrible shape year round with slow greens and rough tee boxes. Grass needs to be greener too and is simply not worth the money to golf.

Kevin J Holtzman

The one thing that bothers me is the guy in Bunkers Bar and Grill who charged himself an extra $1.25 tip on top of the $2 I already gave him on my credit card which I didn't notice until I'm sitting at home doing my banking...the money is not the issue, it's the retardedness to do such a thing in the first place. NOT COOL!

Austin Cargill

I applied for a job here and was replied with an email around 1 am telling me to come in for an interview. So I went in on a Wednesday and showed up early just to be safe. I was told about the job I applied for and told I got the job and can start the following Monday. And was told that on that Wednesday night I should be expecting an email about a schedule and further information about the position. Well I never got an email and waited till Sunday so on Sunday I decided to call. And then got told I’m not on the schedule and I will be getting a call about a schedule within the next day or two. So I waited, the second day still no call so I decided to call them myself. I was put through by someone to the managers voicemail. And I asked about the information I needed to start work the next day. And that day I called , later that night at 1:30 am into the next morning I got a reply saying they are moving on with the position. So all this time I had wasted by getting told I have the job and almost a week later after waiting , I get told I don’t have the job. Huge lack of communication. And big waste of my time.

David Mihm

I can't imagine playing here again. Excruciatingly slow round, horrific maintenance, one of the worst layouts you can possibly imagine with tons of manmade ponds and completely unnatural green complexes. Skip it in favor of Pumpkin Ridge or the Reserve if you're looking for a place to play on the west side of town.

Kenneth Loucks

Bill Melcher

I used to use the facilities, but after a bad “fitting” experience I will never go back. I was given a good deal on new irons that came with a “fitting.” However after purchase I was told that the shafts and lengths were perfect for me and needed no further adjustment. Then two “professionals” tried to sell me $2000 worth of golf lessons. I’ve subsequently learned from another pro that this was negligent.

Floyd Frick

Had a club fitting with Jason Burnett. He was very thorough, picking the best clubs for me while also balancing cost including any product at sale discounts. The ball and club tracking technology is excellent! ... gotta be the best place in town to get fitted with golf clubs.

Sam Alexander

Shane Williams

I met with Cole today to get fitted for some new clubs and the experience was awesome. He was very down to earth and you could tell he enjoyed his job which translated into a great experience. I would highly recommend everyone check them out before you buy a new set of clubs. Huge selection, great customer service and high tech system to get you fitted right the first time. Can't say enough good things.

Doug Devitt

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE OF ANY GOLF COURSE IN THE PORTLAND AREA

Ray Birch

Working with Nick Mawbry for both club fitting and private lessons has been the most positive experience I've enjoyed in over 40 years of playing golf. It's unthinkable to me that anyone serious about their game would not avail themselves of the remarkable fitting / teaching technology now available to all golfers. The 'Trackman' technology is used by the best players in the game - and it's available to YOU simply by requesting a free fitting and buying your clubs at Redtail. I even got a call from Redtail about 2 weeks after getting my fitted clubs, letting me know that there was a $25 dollar per iron rebate from Taylormade, and that I now had a credit at the store. A world class experience!!

Emil Hameed

M Streudel

The course and driving range seem all right. The instructors are horrible. I started out with a female instructor for their free lesson and she wasn't all that great. Then we bought a lesson package with Matt and he is absolutely horrible. Do not waste your money on getting lessons at this place. He is an awful instructor and I would recommend going to Meriwether National Golf instead. Cannot stress how bad of an instructor he is.

Donald Judson

Lesson from Richard Ledogar - superb! Making great progress on improving my swing.

Justin Yuen

I went in to try out a couple of iron set that I was interested and was thinking about getting custom fitted based on a friend's recommendation. The staff were very arrogant and unfriendly. They didn't seem to care to help if you weren't ready to buy right then and there. Overall, I had better experiences elsewhere. I did however, liked that they used Trackman LM for testing clubs.

David ReSue

Amazing staff, friendly and knowledgeable! I got a custom fitting with Jeff Emmerich who was super knowledgeable on every club out on the market. He had me swing my clubs that I had and was able to put clubs in my hand that improved every aspect of my game, distance, accuracy, etc... When I got my new clubs, I gave my old set to my father and Ean Fellner helped my father out with the same respect and professionalism all of their staff has given me even without him purchasing a new set of clubs. Whether you're looking for a new set of clubs, getting fitted with the current clubs, or just need to fill gaps in your distances go to RedTail and see anyone of their staff members and you will be impressed with the whole experience. I take lessons with Robert Randall as well, he is worth every penny I spent on the lessons and more. The trackman system that is used helps improve your game with in-depth analysis and allows you to not just go and hit balls with no purpose.

Tom Fernwault

Great place to swing your clubs!

Scott B

Was there for the tent sale this past Sunday, first time ever at RedTail. Lots of stuff, pretty impressive, a bit of sticker shock, but it seems that way everywhere lately. Anyway, I did find a set of Pings and decided to get them. I brought in my full set of RS1's, 4-LW lightly played, to trade in. The folks who helped me find what I was looking for were great, very helpful and knowledgeable, but then, the guy pricing used clubs was completely overwhelmed with clubs! I mean here I am, new box of irons ready to go, but waiting on them to price my old clubs out. After about a half hour of waiting around watching the pricing process, and seeing just how long it was going to take, (a couple hours, at least) I picked up my old set and left. See no reason to ever go back, they obviously have plenty of business without me.

joshua thompson

I haven't played the course yet but I love the store it self, I've pitched more here than anywhere else in the Portland area. And will be back again

David Drinkward

Had an appointment to get fitted just now. When I showed up, Jason told me unless I committed to buying today I was wasting his time. I offered to pay the $200 fitting fee. He explained that this is Saturday and he's too busy. Apparently these people are too busy to keep scheduled appointments with paying customers. If that sounds like your kind of place, and you like being treated like dirt, by all means shop here!

chick kozloff

I brought in a 3w for reshafting. It was an old 3w. They lost the head. Wes said, "We are giving you a new free 3 wood. Get fitted right now." Wow! I got a $300 Epic 3w for free. I love Wes and Steve. This is an amazing place.

Benji Corneluis

Not bad pricing if you go early enough. Nice course! Not too challenging just play smart

Andrew Gustavson

I went to practice my swing assuming the range was open because that's what their website states and they said they are closed until 2pm mondays. And then I was told they were closed entirely on Mondays. And in the winter are closed most other days. Even though they say on the website 365 days a year they are open. Other than that they do have cheap buckets.

My review is for the Pro shop vs. the coarse, and I have to say it was a great experience. Being 6' 8", I had to be fitted for clubs. I am still learning the game, and had some cheap clubs that were lengthened by a local sporting goods store, but this was in an entirely different experience. Nick spent over 2 hours with me getting me set up and testing different brands of irons. He was patient and extremely helpful, even with a beginner such as myself. It was nice to be able to quantify the difference in setups and brands. I'll be back in the future.

David Pont

Slowest course I’ve ever played. I realize this is a city course but c’mon. They pack the tee times together so closely that the course is constantly backed up. The last time I played here they put my friend and I with 3 other people, 5 people total. 2 of the 3 were age 12. I will not play here again.

Clinton Cumming

Everytime I go in this place, the employees are rude and unhelpful. I called Redtail Golf Center multiple times asking if they can help determine if my old ping irons are still the correct lie angle. Multiple employees said to come on in and have them check it for free. I showed up yesterday and the "manager" said they couldn't help me with anything unless I spent $200 on a fitting. $200 to just determine if my lie angle is correct? The service here sucks.

Sunny Daze

Great course!

Ryan Kinkade

Our son has been taking lessons at RedTail for the last year and it's been a really great experience for him. Coach Greg Schmid is incredibly patient with young kids, comes prepared with fun games for them to play, and of course is extremely knowledgable about golf. If you're looking for a good spot for youth lessons this is a great option.

christina cudworth

Best lobster bisque ever!!!

Cullen Peale

J Mike

I've been there twice with poor results; club fitting was unsuccessful and the driving range closed; not sure if I will ever return

Alexander McNeer

I don't know of a better place to go to get fitted for golf clubs. Their staff took close to 2 hours in analyzing my swing and set me up with a great set of irons. They also threw in a few tips on my alignment that has proved significant in lowering my handicap from a 11 to a 6...

Eric Dufur

The price is ok, but they are usually pretty busy and there are a lot of slow players. Many of the holes have goose poop problems and in general the place stinks. You will likely lose more than the average number of balls. Anything you save in greens fees will cost you in golf balls.

Alex Boyd

It's awesome to drive some balls after a stressful week. Sometimes the staff seem very judgemental of anyone not wearing golf attire being there, but it doesn't come from everyone. It's kept me from putting my kid into golf lessons there, but hasn't kept me from sending a few buckets down the range.

Kenneth Baker

pretty much Priced out for the Normal golfer, pretty much one of the slowest Courses around. and for the tent sale a little high priced even at 50% off.

Jamie Beagle

This is the worst staff at a golf course I have ever encountered in my life. I will not bring my employees here again! All they care about is $$$, not the sport of the game. In turn they lost 10's of thousands a year. Worst place I have ever been to in my 30 years golfing. Stay Away!!!

John M

I am a very average golfer that had 30 yr old clubs. Been to stubborn to buy new ones. Today I went in and worked with Jeff Emmerich and he helped fit me with new irons. Jeff was very easy to work with. He has a wealth of knowledge the he easily can share with a very casual golfer like myself. Even threw in a couple tips that readily made me strike the better. I am excited to get my new irons and would encourage anyone looking to get new golf gear to head to Redtails Golf Center. Ask for Jeff.

Ryan Braun

Did the free 1 hour lesson they offer on the website. We weren't sure where to go to check in and one instructor we asked was a little snobby about it but we got checked in and set up with Matt. He was great, very patient and helpful. We will likely sign up for the intro series of lessons they offer.

DJ Armstrong

Worst round every. Never lost my ball (s) in the fairway on ANY golf course in my life. It would help if they were mowed. Staff was rude in Pro-Shop and Snack Bar at the turn (unbelievable). Accidentally left my new golf shoes in the cart after the round. Called the next day....."sorry don't have them". TIP OF THE DAY: Way too pricey for what is delivered and accepted. Wait until August when the course drys out and avoid staff as much as possible. Much better course elsewhere in the area.

John Hay

Garrett Anderson

Best place to get all the gear you need. I was recently fitted by Jeff who is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and fun to work with. Love my new sticks and appreciate the mini lessons he gave to correct some things I couldn’t see as well. Always look forward to stopping by and improving my game with professionals I can trust.

Ryan Garry

Jason is very knowledgeable about the club fitting process and helped me put together a killer set to fit my specs. Very happy with the experience, now just waiting the two weeks for my clubs to be delivered! Thanks Jason!

Clinton Timmons

I have never seen such a well stocked pro shop at any other course, kudos. The staff very helpful and knowledgable.

Katherine Rosback

I was assisted by Rick when I came in to look for and potentially buy ladies clubs. He was very thorough and helpful. He let me demo several clubs and used video equipment to analyze . This helped me to decide which clubs were best for me. There was no pressure to buy. I can't wait to get out and play!

Joe Hayes

Went there to bye a shirt during their 50% sale. They started to pull stuff out early but left the ranks I was looking at until I left. Something they should do, but appreciated it nonetheless.

Michael Sigler

Had fun, course in great shape. Greens are tough but very true. Always have great deals on equipment out here. Bought my last three sets of irons here. Only place to buy accessories, they more than have it all. Thanks for the great time.

Chad DelMain

Price is a little steep for what it is so i usually just hit up the driving range. It's only $10 for a full bucket of balls and the range is never too crowded. There is also a decent restaurant on site and like any other golf course they have lessons available. My two favorite things about Redtail is that it's pretty cheap to get your clubs sized, usually only takes 48 hours, and the sidewalk tent sale that seems to be going on whenever the weather allows offering 50% off on most items.

Bret Stevens

I can confirm everything negative posted here. If this course/range was not the closest to my house, I would never go. The course is decent for about 2 months after the rain stops and before it turns into a goat track (Doesn't drain at all, then turns rock hard) and you will never get through a round in less than 5 hours on a decent weekend (Marshals don't care, public course after all). Range is ridiculous, balls are old and the range goes down hill (Can't see your shot past 175 yards). Their "Sales" go on year round, so they are not really sales at all. Only reason for 2 stars is the fact that they have invested into their Trackman and they do have some good fitters, but others can be rude. I want to see it improve, I just don't feel like they care.

Russell Collins

Drove all the way out to visit a friend and take advantage of their golf fitting. I enjoyed the time Ben Grusin took to find me the clubs which worked best. Ben took my future goals into account as well as keeping the cost down. this was not a requirement as I had told them I wanted to do it right the first time and was willing to pay the price. Ben Grusin did great, Thank you.

Eric J

Great driving range open late, multi level with many spots. Golf course is challenging, made for the pros but shortened for amateur golfers, somewhat expensive $$

Smokey Happy

Robert Gray

It's been a couple hours with Jason and he was a fantastic teacher and help me pick some new clubs. Rose Gray

Harry Uhles

I love it at redtail Pro Shop it's hard to walk through there they have so much stuff which is awesome hard to get out of there without buying something, the golf course is very challenging and tough

Marty Merrill

Greens are much too difficult. Course is over priced and the last round I played there took well over 5 hours - never again! The club buying experience is a completely different story - VERY well done and a GREAT place to buy clubs!!!

Ken Klassy

If you want to play golf, don’t play here. Pace of play is horrible....tee times are 10 minutes apart yet pace of play if 15 minutes per hour....oh, and then they let out fivesomes also when it is busy...then they have mowers that think it is appropriate to mow 20 feet away while you are hitting. Never again

Ken Boire

4 people behind the counter with one - two working? Lean your back against something while you turn away from the customers to carry on a conversation and people start to wonder if this is the right job. We will just need more patience or come back later. Tees missing from the driving range last week. Two weeks ago we got kicked off places because they were going to be needed by a class. Why not put up a reserved sign?
