We have all the information of people who purchase the products of Heron Lakes Golf Club (Golf) around Oregon area.
As of day the firm gets a score of 3.9 stars over 5 and this score is based on 81 reviews.
You may have noticed that it has an average rating is high, and it's based on a very large number of feddbacks, so we can be quite sure that the score is quite accurate. If people have bothered to value when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write tatings when these are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Golf is included in the category of Golf club.
solid course, decent greens fees, gets a bit busy on the weekends in the nice weather but so does every where else. I recommend this place for an easy round
Great Blue’s well designed (by Robert T Jones II), walkable, and offers a solid challenge from black tees with slope of 139. I’d like to play Great Blue again when course maintenance issues are resolved. Course has so much potential, but given course maintenance issues on tees and fairways Great Blue feels like an average value at $49 for 18 holes. Black tees were in poor shape on holes 11-15. White and blue tees looked healthier than black tees throughout. Portions of fairways on back 9 were in spotty shape with lots of difficult lies due to disease or over watering (not sure of root cause). Greens were decent. Bunkers need additional sand, many are too firm/hard packed. Guess I shoulda stayed outta them. Practice green & chipping areas were in good shape. I’d give the driving range a 7 out of 10 as hitting area was very sandy, and there’s no lighting for early birds. On the upside it’s nice to hit off ground not mats. I had minimal interactions with staff who were occupied with a women’s amateur event. Pace of play was decent; our foursome finished in just under 4 hours as the 2nd group off. Background noise & smell of carbureted petrol from Portland Int’l Raceway adds to the course’s character.

Great public golf course.
Beautiful course! Not for the faint of heart!
We are regulars at this course. 20 to 30 times a year. Still I have to ask... would you please please...PLEASE... put some sand in your bunkers! It shouldn't be rock hard clay 1/2 inch deep. Makes it really tough. Thanks, otherwise 5 stars!
We played this Sunday and had a great time at the Great Blue course. The course was cut perfectly, even the greens were excellent. I made a lot of short putts and shot an 83. The par 3 holes are the hardest, a few are over water with tiny greens. Par 4 and 5 you have to hit the fairways, then they allow good approach shots. Big mounds divide adjacent fairways. Will definitely be back.
Probably the best city municipal course in Portland
Fun and challenging course. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
This is a great location to play or practice. There are two 18 hole courses; the Greenback is much easier and traditional style, and the Great Blue is difficult with a links feel to it. There are multiple practice areas: you can hit off the grass on the range (much better than off a mat) there is a sand trap and chipping area, and a practice putting green. The pro shop is limited and a bit run down, but it isn't about what is inside. The course has been fairly well taken care of, and it seeming to be more improved over a few years ago. If you are just starting or wanting to work on your game, play the Greenback. If you know what you are doing and want a challenge to see where you truly are with your game, the Great Blue will force accuracy and well thought out shots to get par.
Lived here my whole life, always heard of this course and finally played it today. The grounds were in okay shape. It is a public city owned course but still a lot of clover and a fair amount of weedy areas on the course. The lakes were shimmy. The greens did roll true and were in good shape. Would not have been nearly as bad of an experience had the pace of play not been so bad. I get that done groups play slower than others and sometimes it's a tough round but every hole/shot/tee was backed up. Tee times every 9 minutes is ridiculous... All in all not likely to play again soon
Played the Greenback course. Lots of dog leg rights for all of us slicers Chipping practice area. Love that they have this. Reasonable food and drink prices. Look forward to returning to play Great Blue
Great course.x2 great Value. Excellent for stay and play. We will be back.
Beautiful courses, very well kept, lots of wild life to see and sweet views from the back of the Great Blue course.
Greens are beat up.
I've never played Heron lakes before untill yesterday. Heard a lot of good things about the course. Played Green backs and was slightly dissapointed. Its a beautiful course..but fairway and tee box conditions could need some work. Very soggy and mushy as if they just got hit with heavy rain the night before. Everyone at the clubhouse was nice, but just disappointed with the course conditions after hearing so much positive things about the course.
My highlight from a round on Heron Lakes had to be seeing the namesake itself, a big beautiful heron fly across the fairway on a nice sunny day and land in one of the water traps. Quite fitting.
remarkable
Two beautiful courses, well maintained -- best public course you'll find just about anywhere. Often pretty crowded during summer, but to paraphrase Mark Twain, it's a lovely walk to spoil.
Love it.
I want to thank Randy, the GM to be willing to work with my by honoring my birthday offer, even thou he didn't have to.I couldn't find anyone to play the time I could, so he put me with a other players I didn't know, so I could get play my birthday round of golf. The players I player with fun to play with and course was great. Thanks Randy. Dean
The course is in good condition. Water on many of the holes and bunkers everywhere. Pace of play good. Clubhouse is a little run down. Food is available inside and it’s good. Would recommend the course.
One of the best in portland

When the Great Blue is in great shape, it's my favorite course within an hour of my house. I have a love/hate relationship with holes 16, 17, 18.
good
Ugh. Features everything wrong with muni golf. Underfunded course maintenance, death-march-pace rounds, totally banal design from the 1960's or 70's, loudspeakers announcing tee times, etc.
Incredible staff to work with - new marketing manager here and I can say it has been hands down one of the best places I've ever worked. The customers are sweet and the course is great!! Yeah, sure.. sometimes the weather isn't the best, but it's Portland, c'mon! We're doing the best we can out here! I've been learning how to play here, and with some good tips and good company, I've never thought I'd fall in love with golf this much! :-)
Best muni in Portland......if this isnt on your destination list you are missing out!
I am reviewing the Blue Side(Robert Trent Jones Jr). This is a treat for golfers who like RBT Jr courses. The clubhouse is much like that of most Portland courses...underwhelming with fair service. The golf course makes up for it however by providing a beautiful setting with overly challenging golf holes. If you expect to score, buy a yardage book or play a couple practice rounds. Greens are usually medium pace, and the condition is usually above average during the golf season.
You need to water the course and put some more sand in the bunkers.
I played dozens of rounds of golf at Heron Lakes over the years but I won't play there anymore because they force players to practice on plastic mats. They have a huge driving range and lots of space they could easily use the real driving range but they decided to shrink it into plastic mats what a joke Cheapskate management style takes the pleasure away from playing golf there
Pat and the golf course are awesome!! They take care of their peoples.
Great day good weather good people
I love this course. The Great Blue. Not too challenging, a lot of water holes and nice fairways/greens. I haven't been in a while ; but thought I'd stop by and leave a review.
Love this course although in the winter it can be soggy but a lot of variety here to choose from
Heron Blue is the gem of Portland city courses. Beautiful and well maintained. I’ve taken a few lessons from Bill and I can’t say enough good things about the guy. He’s skilled, friendly, and a great teacher of the game. Whether you are low handicapper or a beginner Bill can help you improve your game.
I Love this course. The staff is super friendly and down to earth. The courses are fun and challenging. And the conditioning is excellent. Plus they have good beer on tap and a great practice area. What more could you want from a public course?
We played the Great Blue, which was too difficult for us. Just too much trouble (bunkers and water) to get into on this course. But the worst problem was the non-stop roaring of the engines on the adjacent Portland International Raceway. It created a low-level tension that made it difficult to relax. The course is visually beautiful, though, and well-maintained. There were many herons, so it does live up to its name. I would not return here -- because of the noise.
Very nice and large course, but I left very disappointed with the service and the employees, the Rangers keep stalking me and kept me under pressure. Basically if you're under the age of 60 they'll hate you for no reason.
Excellent public golf course facility and design.
I played the Greenback course yesterday after reading many of these reviews and it's total disappointment. Many of the fairways were spotty and shaggy, or looked like they'd been through a flood recently. The greens were hard like concrete! I carry a 3 handicap and couldn't spin the ball on these greens, in many cases I found my ball mark near the flag and the ball ended up 45 feet away. Most of all...the value is a negative star. They charged $30 for 18 holes. I would have paid half that for the course conditions and felt satisfied. I've played Wildwood, Cedars on Salmon Creek, and Tri-Mountain recently for less than that...all on Friday afternoon at the same time. Don't play here.
Great friendly staff and very welcoming course. Both courses offer a different style of golf and the course has good restaurant and club shop. Would recommend.
Yes, there is some goose poop, and other indicators that you are in nature. Beautiful courses and just a great atmosphere.
Rangers very annoying Cant play relaxed game always following you.
In the past, I rated them 1 star because they had a horrible goose poop issue. Seems they have since resolved it. Course was in really good shape the last time I played.
It was nice bunkers are still hard as stone
I became homeless last month and have been living on the green ever since! 10/10!
Golf course was in good condition, lunch was good and the beer was cold.
Very well kept
The Great Blue was in great shape, and the greens were rolling quite well for being aerated. I'm definitely coming back.
Awesome public course
One star is too high for this course. Perhaps the worst conditioned golf course I’ve ever played. Granted, there was flooding a few days earlier. But the greens were a disaster, fairways filled with random sand, and chewed up tee boxes. It’s a shame too because the layout was pretty nice. Whoever is in head greenskeeper should find a career that is a better fit for his skill set.
Heron Lakes has never looked better! Both courses , The Greenback and Great Blue are in phenomenal shape! We've put many hours of work into improving these courses and now it's all paying off! Come play either courses and have a great time! Grass driving range , teaching pros , outstanding food and bev department all backed by great management and superior maintenance staff!
Great Blue is in terrible shape. The superintendent has moved on and the course maintenance has been nonexistent. Bad greens - no grass, brown spots, bumpy, poor fairways lots of browns patches, etc. Not going to play this course again this year or even next year. Some of the greens are just bad. Disappointed that the management has let this course goto pot.
I really enjoy playing at Heron Lakes. I live in Lincoln City but it's worth the trip. Great employees, good food, good condition. The problem that comes up occasionally is slow play. Sunday the group ahead of us was well behind the group ahead of them, and we, and the groups behind us waited on every shot, yet the marshall and his female partner drove right past them.
Sunday warm November day
We played at the Great Blue and enjoyed it. Will try the other course the next time. It's a great municipal course. Would definitely consider playing it in the future. Weekends tends to be very busy, so I would consider playing there during the weekdays.
Pass out some ball mark repair kits. Our foursome repaired many ball marks on the greens.
Course is good but golf now charges more then the course does
Great golf course, the Great Blue is a hidden gem for sure
Always well maintained. Occasionally over booked
The Greens are really awesome ....Foods are also with reasonable price ..this play is really awesome for spending time with friends playing Golf..i really loved this place as its well maintained also
