Nice 36 hole county course. The conditions aren't the best, but if you're a registered county member, it's a great local value. I wouldn't recommend it for non registered out of county golfers as it gets expensive and I think there are better places for the money.

Nice Muni courses (East and West) with chipping, putting areas and driving range. Unlike the other reviewer I often buy tokens 10 at a time and never had a problem. Once you get to know the staff they are really quite friendly and joke every time we see them. However their sense of humor may be misunderstood at times. The course is always in really nice shape and the greens are excellent. Where else can someone play 18 holes for 13 dollars ? (weekday registered resident senior rate)

I was playing last Sunday. Specially Greens conditions are really terrible. Lots if weeds on the many Greens that made the putting ball went to wrong direction and not cut on the grass on the greens. But I think it is better than years before. This is the first time to play again for 3 years.

Played here for first time, probably last.Nice layout, somewhat challenging, but needed lots of work:if you don't hit the fairways you ended up in clumps of dried grass that made it near impossible to find you ball,or if you did,you most likely ended up in a pile of crabgrass (ever try hitting out with an iron)

Played the East course yesterday (first time here, booked hot deal golf now for $31). It's a good layout and the greens were nice. My biggest complaint and reason for the 3 stars is that even though it hasn't rained in a few days, the course was soggy and muddy. We met up with a local player and he said that's pretty much the way it is all the time. I'm no golf architect, but it's apparent that the course either needs much better drainage system, or the land the course was built on just wasn't suited for a golf course. The ridiculously deep rough (you can loose a ball 1 foot off the fairway) I'm guessing is due to heavy lawn mowing equipment not being able to be used too often. There were spots on the fairway where we didn't dare take the cart for fear of getting stuck in the mud, and remember, it had been at least 3-4 days since it had last rained. Thought it was a little odd that the foursome in front of us all had their own carts. I would think the course would want to minimize motorized carts on poorly drained land.

This has to be quite possibly the worst course in the state. Last year they increased the greens fees and the course is in worse condition than prior years. Problems with the course conidtions on every hole from the tee box to the greens. Drainage is extremely poor. Standing water on most of the fairways even with a light rain conditions. Greens are in horrible shape. Not sure how they justify the increase in greens fees.

Kumar Datta

rob mandell

Just used the driving range. All staff was friendly, and they are making nice improvements. All new metal dividers between tee spaces.

Alan Olegario

Expensive

Stephen Macciocchi

Tamarack seems to space their tee times so close that the course is so slow it is not worth it. I also found the condition not competitive enough to justify the prices. Management has not made the right changes in my opinion to stop the courses decline since 2008. It's quite ironic since I live 4 miles away. I'm envious of anyone who lives in High Bridge Hills. The county course there is 1000 times better.

Layout is good but conditioning is awful. Greens are hairy, slow, bumpy, and pretty much unplayable. Go somewhere else and have a nice round of golf.

Play at Tamarack a lot. Use range and putting greens plenty as well. Spend $$ at restaurant and drinks, inside and outside as well. Walking up to clubhouse to play this Saturday, my bag and 4 wheel cart hit a bump and tumbled over, just as a known employee (Rich- ranger for the day) was walking towards me to the electric cart barn. My bag with clubs, spilled over as did my cart but this worker just kept walking without helping me in the least. After I got my bag and clubs back on my push cart, R. Came walking back out and I asked him why he ignored me and didn't help me at all. He told me he figured I could handle it myself and got plenty of stuff "for free" at the course already. Saw Rich on the 3rd hole West a bit later, as he was passing in a ranger cart, how he could ignore a patron in need of help and make excuses for not being a d cent hu,an being and he was again defensive and obnoxious. As it was extremely hot today, I went over to Pine Brook, at Covered Bridge in Manalapan as it is a bit closer to me anyway, got there info for rates, course info and scorecard. I played with friends on the Saturday in question, including 4 birdies on 2, 3, 11 and 12, but I will be looking for a new "home" course and Pine Brook is closer to me and has other advantages. Hopefully, one crappy employee at Tamarack won't ruin your day, but for all the time and money I spend there, I am extremely disappointed, insulted and offended by the actions and remarks made to me there RW in Old Bridge

Forgive me father I have sinned. I played tamarack east this morning. I would have much rather spent the $64 and donated to a charity or to help kids in need. $5 was well spent on the below average pork roll egg and cheese, so it was really $59 down the drain. I’ll give credit where credit is due though, the water was cold in the coolers. That’s about it for the positives. Invest in bitcoin, that may be a smarter use of your money.

I think Tamarack Golf Course is a very nice place to play golf and also to practice your driving and putting. some people do not appreciate our county for having a nice golf course in a very reasonable price for everybody to afford and enjoy a day of golf. I hope someday we can open the restaurant. max madridejos

For a county course the greens and fairways are in good condition. They have removed trees witch irked up the holes.

Christopher Palma

The course is in absolutely disastrous shape. Our foursome hit at least 10 shots down the center of the fairway that just died inside of sand pits where the course is being replanted. A few greens were barely more than dirt. The fact that they charge $50+ to play here is astonishing. Won't be back again.

John Worth

Paul Eginton

Very overpriced. $108 for 2 resident golfers and a cart for a mud hole with geese feces and flies at every green. Wish I could have my money back and go play somewhere else. Probably be cheaper and get a better course than this. What does your money pay for here? Terrible experience.

LOL. To say this place is mismanaged would be paying it a COMPLIMENT. Good old cronyism at its finest. It's comical how poorly some of the employee treat people....mind you these are COUNTY employees... residents pay these people's salary! Just a tip of the iceberg on the mismanagement... they will not sell anyone more than 2 range tokens at a time because "people hoard them".... now a token costs $3 and a machine shop could probably make them for about 10 cents a piece. Rather then be happy that people are hoarding something they paid $3 for which would cost 10 cents to replace, these geniuses DISCOURAGE the practice. LOL, any wonder the place is a dump.

They're charging too much for range balls now. 5 dollars a token, and it takes 2 tokens to fill a small bucket of range balls. Ripoff. Not only that, but the West course seems to have gotten worse. The West course was the better course because it drained better - now, there's more standing water than there was in the past, and the par 3 15th hole, you can't even get to the green without your shoes getting soaked in water/mud!

Fellow New Jersey golfers -- the holes here at Tamarack are 4 and 1/4 inches in diameter, just like they are at Augusta National, or Plainfield C.C. Of course the conditions are bit shaggy. But let's look at Tamarack as an opportunity to hone our skills when faced with difficult lies. This is not the course for coddling pampered players. Therein lies it charm. For $20 and change, a Middlesex County resident can find hours of pleasure chopping away at these 36 holes. Let's just look at the front nine of West: 1: Even topped drives will dribble 50 yards down the fairway. A fine opening hole. 2. The tee shot gives one a lot to ponder, a slight pull and you're wet. A slight slice and you're in the woods. 3. A gorgeous hole, I don't care if you're a member at Plainfield. Did George Washington lead his army across this wide expanse of fairway? Who can tell me he did not? 4. Short par 4. An endearing hole. Beginners will love it, because it lets you carry a pond without ever really feeling threatened. 5. I love Tamarack, but this is a rather bland par three. I don't think it has an inch of elevation change, or interest. Unless you play from the very tips, and then the branches on the right will pose a trajectory challenge. 6. So, you want to play golf. OK. Step up to this par tee. Here's your driver. Now let's see what you've got. Woods to the left. Woods to the right. Classic test. 7. A great par five that takes position as well as power to reach in regulation. 8. Bend your tee-shot to the left, if you can. If you can't, then you better take an iron or fairway wood off the tee and hope you can reach. 9. A wonderful par 3 that requires careful club selection and a steady hand over your first and second putts.

I have been a long time player at Tamarack and I must say that I welcome the improvements that have been happening there in the past year. It was always a great layout, but needed quite a bit of TLC to get it back to its former glory. They have a new management team and I am impressed with what they have achieved so far. The clubhouse and restaurant have gotten a much needed face-lift. It is really nice now. I especially like sitting in the new outside veranda after my round. If you have not played Tamarack for a while, you will see a lot of changes on the courses. The first thing you will notice is, how many trees have been removed. This results in better airflow and less shade on the greens and tee boxes. Because of this there is a marked improvement in the quality of both. I have never seen the greens look better. Another thing that I like is the new policy of only charging me 1/2 price if I am taking a golf cart on my own. I have been told that they also have a new policy of having every 20th round free. I have not yet qualified for my free round yet, so I can't confirm this. but at least it is something to look forward to. If you have not played Tamarack for a while, it is well worth your while checking it out.
