The course is amazing, very well kept. However management and its staff are very rude and unprofessional. We were stopped by the ranger in regards to pace of play, our tee time was 7:10am and we were approaching the ninth at 8:30am. When asked why are we being told to hurry up, the ranger said there were “holes open in front”, we were the first tee time, of course the holes should be open! The ranger proceed to tell us that “you can always play faster”, are they expecting us to run up to our ball and just swing and run back to cart, or maybe we should have just hit from the golf cart as it was moving. We finish the round in 3 hours and 20 minutes, better then the 4 hour average which is posted in the cart. When asked to speak to the manager, we found out that he was on the golf course. Maybe a little less time on the track and more time in the office to help train your staff. It’s a shame, this course could be a great place, but its staff is miserable and the manager will probably be golfing!

Great little course with challenging but fair layout! Kudos to the superintendent and his staff for improving and keeping it nice. I'm a 12 hdcp and shot 4 over with 3 birdies, one of my best rounds ever so I'm a happy man that looks forward to playing it again!

Not sure about the staff complaints that others have posted about here. Staff was friendly and attentive and the course was immaculate. I'll definitely be back.

I agree with most of the five star reviews here about course itself being in good condition. However if you can walk the course its not really hilly. I will say it has the most hills for the public courses in Essex county. I have no problem with the course. However, the service at the desk from the gentleman that works in the evening and weekends is the worst. You're not guarding the gates of Mordor brother. We only want to play golf.

Played here last week and really enjoyed it. Greens and fairways looked great, even this late in the season. I plan on returning soon, maybe a few more times in the weather holds.I would highly recommend checking this course out.

This is a beautiful golf course. Once a private course designed by a famous architect, it is now a highly underrated, moderately difficult, public course. If you haven’t played it yet, definitely take an opportunity to do so. Hit em straight!

I played there every week last summer (2012) and once this year so far. I find the staff to be very friendly and efficient. The course is maintained very nicely. It's a very hilly course, but I enjoy playing there. Sure, it's crowded, what course isn't, but they schedule the tee times so that one group is not chasing another.

This course is wonderful. A challenge for any level. I am a single digit HCP player. Some very long and some very short 3's, good range of distance for 4's. only one 5 (although it's arguable that one of the 4's is actually a 5 (445 up hill!) extremely good shape for such extensive play. For this area in NJ it's very reasonably priced. no beer at the concession stand - a failing due to ownership. Medium fast greens, well proportioned fairways with plenty of room for the high index player. don't even think of playing the blues unless you are a 9 or less HCP.

Decent track for a municipal course. Few complaints however; the pro shop staff and check in process was slow and disorganized, there wasn't a marshal presence on the course to ensure pace of play (led to a very slow round), and the gates to the course shut/locked with around an hour of daylight left.

Secret jem. Off the back tees this is one tough track, a good walk, and a lot of fun. You will probably hit every club in your bag. Need to drive it straight. Generally receptive greens. A muni so the greens are not consistent but in pretty good shape. Put it on your list if you like a challenge

Great public course. One of the best in NJ. No range, but there is a putting green and a chipping area. Pro tip: The course slopes towards the clubhouse, so try to remember that on the greens.

If you're an Essex County resident with a player card, this course is an absolute steal. It looks and plays more like an upscale country club course than a public one, is kept in super shape and the pace of play is usually very good. One of my all-time favorite courses.

I have lived in WO for over 15 yrs and this is "by far" the best condition this course has looked and played The improvements overall - especially the greens - have been exceptional! The greens are very similar to Essex CC next door - big and beautiful! Yes, I would like to see the greens bit faster but understand weather, etc. play a role on any given day. The one thing that needs to be stressed - prior to play - is to remind folks to please repair your ball marks on the greens. You think we would not need to mention it - prior to play - but unfortunately we do. It takes a minute (yes I am addressing all players) to fix ball marks on the green. If everyone fixed just two it will ensure the greens remain in top condition. This course can be - and believe it will be - one of the best muni courses in the state. Fortunate to have in my back yard!

Fabulous bones. Really good track with excellent routing and good conditions. Kudos to the new County superitendent! Too bad they can't keep the greens a little faster, but I guess that's not possible with so much play and temperatures high. They should definitely make 12 and 15 par 5's. This would complete a nice par 72 course. Push the tee box back at 12 and it becomes a playable, uphill par 5. 15 needs no additional work since it's already a bear. I wonder how many pars are scored per week there! Anyway, if you close one eye, you're playing on a classic country club course for a fraction of the price you'd be paying for a caddy alone at the adjacent Essex Country Country Club.

Went on a curiosity to visit this place at 4 PM on a wednesday, walk rate was $26. Course was wide open (probably because it was steamy high 80s outside) in terms of traffic, when i paired myself up with a single handicapper in a cart, we managed to finish 5 minutes to 7, when the ranger reminded us twice on the course we had to be in by. Really tough conditions to score here. Your driver is not going to matter as much as your mid and long irons (There aren't too many short par 4's here, and only one par 5 on the whole course - the first hole) . Strangely one of the par 3's on the back had a temp green (strange in september) which was slightly disappointing but you can tell they put a lot of care into this course -- greens standard county cut, which is high, rough was pretty gnarly on some holes (on 10 my ball found the side of the green mound and took me ten minutes to find and two shots to get out). Clubhouse was standard, mens room had a few lockers and at least a small bench so I could change out of my work clothes quickly. My playing partner warned me not to come on the weekends (its not the easiest layout for a hacker), which is fine since I quit a private club and end up at Flanders, Galloping Hill or wherever the most pleasant 4 and a half to 5 hour round is available. I'll be back.

Great course for a public county course. Staff is good, not sure the issues other had. They could improve food options. I agree that it is impossible to get early morning time even with 10 days advance and internet. Internet was supposed to be an equalizer but not for morning tee times at this place. Overall a good course.
