JULY 4TH 2016!!!
Mr. Bugner may have had a bad experience, but calling FLANDERS a horror is like calling Jordan Speith a duffer!
To have 36 holes of golf on two well maintained, challenging but fair Municipal golf courses is simply a bonus for Morris County residents and guests. Have played Flanders on and off for 20 plus years and many times the last three years. Without question, the two 18 hole layouts have improved continuously and significantly since BILLY CASPER GOLF took over the courses. Blue to White is simply beautiful and fair to play; Red to Gold as well, but with more up and down-- hills. These are fun layouts with some narrow fairways, some water and creeks, and some bunkers all fairly placed for a challenging experience. It's not Baltusrol, but it also doesn't cost thousands to play here. As a matter of fact, having played a number of Municipal courses in Rockland and Orange Counties (NY), Somerset in NJ, and most recently two courses in Palm Beach County and Boyntan Bay in Florida, it is safe to say, FLANDERS is as good--if not better-- then most Municipal tracks you will find anywhere.
The greens on a scale from 1-10 are an 8+ Remember, these are Municipal courses!!!! They take a lot of abuse, but they are maintained very well. Tees are a bit battered in a few cases but fine. Greens -as noted- are consistent and relatively challenging with a true, smooth roll in most instances. Traps are generally soft, fluffy, and placed in strategic locations.
If there are issues with the courses, they are minor. There should be better direction markers from green to next tee. I would like to see arrows painted right on cart path. Also, there should be a few more water coolers on both layouts. Other then that, it's a lot of bang for your buck! How does $18 green fees after hours where one can easily get 18 holes in before sundown.
The guys who work there are fine. Mostly retired gentlemen, thoughtful, and helpful if help is needed. Mr. Burgner may have had an issue... that's always possible, but the 36 hole layout is a Morris County gem, the staff is fine, the ambiance is excellent, and the drinks girls are sweet and helpful. Even when the Ranger asks players to pick up the pace, he does it without being rude or grating.
If you haven't played here in the last two or three years, give it a try, you will be amazed at the transformation.
Finally ... nice outdoor bar with ample brews and snacks, two putting greens, and one chipping area. Only thing missing is a driving range.
If you live in Morris County, get a Golf card and get discounts, online tee times, and and you will be in for a pleasant surprise. The only" horror" on these courses is my scorecard!!! Enjoy!
PS: Mr. Bugner meant "steer" clear, not "stear" clear.... just saying (:
