Spectacular, beautiful track. Challenging shotmaker course. The flags were set up goofy, with #2 if you missed it rolled back down 15 feet. Several 5 & 6 putts in the group. One hole had the pin tucked so far to the left edge of the freen, it was not visible from 40 yds off the green. If it were set up like that all the time, I wouldn't come back. Staff was friendly.

I'm going to cover the golf here first. The design is excellent; so many unique holes that I can honestly say I've never seen anything like before. The conditioning was very good and the scenery is spectacular on the 18th. I can see why golf writers and raters like it so much. I have heard, however, stories from the locals about how the staff treated golfers last year when conditions were bad. It's disappointing to hear discounted rates weren't offered for damaged greens and fairways.

GREAT EXPERIENCE. We almost didn't play here because of a previous bad review. we have it a shot and the course is in excellent condition, very spotty with some great risk/reward holes. Glad we came. will be back next year.

Was a beautiful course, but you will find not only a more beautiful course but also a better value just 30 minutes north at The Wilderness course at Fortune Bay. Both courses are beautiful but The Wilderness was the only one of the two where we found ourselves saying "Oh my goodness" on a few holes. Splitting hairs, but we found the Wilderness to have more of a "Wow" factor on holes like Loon and Muskellunge.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The course layout was as expected, beautiful and challenging. But the condition of the course was absolutely uneceptable. The staff blamed it on the winter but I think the people running that place has lead them to believe that. They should be ashamed making people pay $75 to play that course. A group of 8 of us planned a golf trip up there and they willingly took our money but neglected to tell us about the condition of the course. We had to find out once we got there. The greens were pretty much all Brown and the little green that was there actually made it worse. Most of the fairways were patchy and muddy in some spots. I didn't take too many pictures because of this but I did post a picture of one of their greens so you can kind of see what I'm talking about. I have never in my life golfed on such a poorly maintained course, I would be embarrassed to be an employee here. The people running this place need to seriously consider a change. It would be an absolute shame to see a potentially beautiful place to stay and golf go down in the dumps. I would not plan a trip up here unless they send you proof the condition has improved.

We've been making an annual golf trip there for 15 years 8 to 12 guys. Last year we were not warned about the horrible conditions and charged full price. This year we were supposed to play the 37 hole special, The Quarry Sunday morning, The Legend Sunday afternoon with lunch in between. We got rained out Sunday morning after 9 holes and got a rain check for back 9. We were told we could play The Legend Tuesday morning, have lunch, then play our back 9 rain check at The Quarry in the afternoon. When we got to The Legend on Tuesday, they wanted to charge us $82 instead of the discounted rate from the 37 Hole Special. The Head of Golf Operations could not do anything for us and his boss had the day off. As far as we are aware, it does not say anything about playing all 36 holes in one day even if you are trained out. You might want to make that clear next time. We walked out of The Legend headed to The Quarry. The guy in the pro shop at The Quarry was not very helpful either. It took him forever to figure out how to let us out to play our 9 hole rain check. We may not be back again!

Wow! One of my favorite courses in MN. But what a shame. Never seen a course in such horrible shape. Its a shame to see it in it's current condition. And to top it off, they charged us 78 bucks and then casually mentioned that the course was not up to it's normal standards. This course should be closed for the season. It may even take several years to return to its formal glory. Sad....

Besides being a quality golfing challenge, the staff was outstanding in friendliness and accommodation. Do yourself a favor and get the wild rice soup. Without question, better than anything we've ever had, including our own...and my wife and I are accomplished chefs.
