REVIEWS OF Superior National at Lutsen-Golf Course IN Minnesota

Ted Pfohl

Fairways, greens, tee boxes were all wonderful. We didn't have a personal GPS gadget, so distances to hazards were guesses. An upgrade to including these in the carts would be beneficial to those non-regulars.

Of course the views were spectacular. The course was in good shape. It simply is a must for golfers in this region...

Lela Goettl

Beautiful golf course!

5/6/16 - only nine holes open (Mountain). Fairways in rough shape. Greens OK with black oil on some. Other golfers jumping from hole to hole. Two groups had their dogs running around with them. Plugs from aerator everywhere. $130 for two and cart. For the expense you will be dissapointed. I and my wife came for weekend getaway and we're dissapointed. Other five star reviews appear to be "ringers".

Nice worker ... best place to play golf

Spectacular views. That would be about all I can say about this place. Every, and I mean every, person working in the clubhouse seems inconvenienced when you ask them to do anything. They are severely understaffed and easily overwhelmed. Lastly, if you say this course is in superb shape, you don’t know golf. If fairways and roughs with weeds growing in them is good shape, then you would be right about it being in good shape. The pins don’t look like they have been moved in weeks, this divots everywhere causing putts to roll terribly. For the money, I can tell you that I wouldn’t come back to this place.

Super friendly and course in great shape. I played River and Canyon courses. Canyon course is most picturesque with some awesome views. Two par 3s have huge elevation drops which makes it a lot of fun. I was very pleased with everything for the 3 rounds in 3 days I played.

Mirel Sabau

All of the greens slope toward the lake, believe it. Wow I went through a huge number of balls.

kurt bob

Lovely course with some interesting up and down terrain

Wayne Dahl

Played the River/Canyon courses and found them to be in good shape. Greens were lush, but very inconsistent, with different speeds from hole to hole. And I was suprised after paying $80 a round that the driving range was extra. Great scenery and quality par 3 holes, I’d recommend looking for a discounted rate.

Beautiful views, particularly on the canyons course. All three nines are good, but conditions on the mountain nine was fair to poor. Bunkers on both are closer to mud than sand. Fairways are soft and muddy. The river nine was closed for renovation. All three nines are scheduled for new bunkering and irrigation /drainage, which is long overdue.

Great Places Minnesota

Without a doubt, the number 1 must play course in the state since the renovation. 5 tee boxes allow all to play this course. Winding along and over the Poplar River with views of Lake Superior, golf sometimes becomes the 2nd best thing you are doing that day! We played the River/Canyon 18 in late June of 2018. The course really gives you everything you want in a golf course. From winding fairways with well protected greens to some tight, need to think about your shot situations. The new greens were laid out perfect for the design of each hole. As you play the last 5 holes, stop at 14 and take a 360 picture, then enjoy the best last 5 holes of any golf course. And do not forget to play the Mountain 9 which also has foot golf! Heath and the staff in the fantastic clubhouse look forward to your visit.

WHAT AN AWESOME COURSE!!! It’s a challenging layout, but the views are spectacular. There are enough tees to be playable for all ability levels. Has to be seen to be truly appreciated.

BEAUTIFUL! Had a great time golfing here. Very challenging course with lot’s of elevation. Great views of Lake Superior on many of the holes. The Canyon course was spectacular! Course was in great shape. Though it will cost you over a $100 to play 18 I thought it was worth it.

Patrick Hilden

Always a great time. Well worth the price fore the spectacular views!

8/18/16 - My Dad and I played the Mountain and River courses. Very beautiful golf course. We will be back again!

the Grounds Crew were amazingly nice to me this summer when I brought my family for a golf trip. they always moved out of the way when they saw me teeing up, and they didn't stare at me the whole time, I felt very comfortable there.

Garrett Isaacson

Very pretty, but still spring growth

Paul Berggren

Pretty tough to beat these views. Really the only place to play up here. Just went on the newly renovated canyon and river courses (9-18-17) and everything was in great shape, greens nice and firm and fast, just the way i like them! This is definitely a destination type course.

As of 6/15/15 Superior National golf course has seen sunshine for over a week straight which provide optimal growing temperatures. The greens are rolling true and that area on one of the mountain greens Brandon Z earlier mentioned is barely noticeable as they replaced that portion with a part of their nursery. The River 9 is looking fantastic as it's undergoing renovations. The Ohio White sand bunkers look fabulous. I'm so anxious to play the river, as it's projected to be open for play hopefully in late August if mother nature acts accordingly. I would recommend sneaking in at least 9 holes on the canyon before the river is open. The Canyon 9 is the next to see some changes like new white bunkers as soon as the river 9 has matured. I also like the fact they hand toss their own pizzas, as I ordered a sausage and pepperoni on the 17th hole it was ready for me on the 19th hole.

Excellent conditions, beautiful views! One of the best Northern courses in the state.

With waterfalls, mountains and Lake Superior, this has to be the most beautiful course in the Midwest.

Patrick O'Brien

The newly renovated River course is wonderful. I would highly recommend it. However, the mountain course is seriously lacking. If you want to go, wait till the Canyon course, which is also freshly renovated, is open. Until then, you will be only partially satisfied with the experience.

Tom Peterson

Just look at the views

John Michaels

Beautiful course!

Pictures don’t do it justice. This course is amazing. With views of Lake Superior on 22 of 27 holes you’re always in for an experience. Highly recommend this be on your Minnesota to play list.

Tim Oberg

Cold rain and hail still a good day golfing. Great course with magnificent views. Open fairways and fast greens. Still very challenging. Welcoming club house, with friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Ronald Flauaus

Great place ... great course!

Justin Rumley

No golf for me but it makes for a really nice Fatbike course!

Adam Borgstahl

Great course. Recently updated. Provides a good challenge for all levels. Has fantastic views of the lake and national forest. Reasonable rates, offers quite a few discounts. Overall great course.

Played her the last day of the season. It was a nice cool day with amazing views.

Sandy K.

Really nice course with great views of Lake Superior.

Brandon Z

This course is usually beautiful and worth the greens fees. However, as of 5/17/2015 it is in really rough shape. To be honest, it should have been closed so that work could have been done. The entire course was flooded, bunkers had 6 inches of water, fairways are missing large portions of grass and some areas in the fairways just have giant holes in them. There is zero consistency from shot to shot because of the poor grass/ground quality. One of the greens was covered in motor oil from what I can only assume was a leaking mower. The River 9 is closed for remodeling so all golf is channeled to the Canyon and Mountain courses which just aren't ready to handle the wear and tear. I was very disappointed for having driven 4 hours to golf the course. I really don't see the course making a comeback this year due to all the damage. The only reason I'm not giving 1 star is because of their "play all day" deal where for the price of 1 round of green's fees, you can play continuously all day.

Randy Deisting

Canyon and River were very nice. Mountain course is a little rough.

The Renovation brings this course back into a Top Ten Minnesota course to play! Simply amazing views that make your golf shots even better! Can not wait to get back in 2018!

Dave Younke

Great views, plus if you hit it straight! Would live to golf again

Beautiful views and fun layout. Renovation by Jeffrey Brauer is fantastic. Deserves a top 10 public course in Minnesota rating now.

Loved the back 9 (canyon) really cool views

Waste of Money and Time - I drove almost 4 hours to get there, AFTER I called ahead to inquire about the condition of the course. The pro shop man described it as in outstanding shape. Misleading, at best. There are three nines. The Canyon 9 is closed. The mountain 9 is all but unplayable. Deep ruts, holes, dead and dying turf and bunkers half filled with rock hard black dirt. This nine should also be closed. I was charged $72 with tax, which is deplorable for nine playable holes ( River 9 ) in the middle of nowhere. No wonder I was almost alone out there on a day when the weather was perfect.

Tish Tesolin

Steve Kontzie

Always in great shape!

Mr Tina

Just got back from Lutsen and played the Mountain Course on a whim with my son. Greens were decent but not much else was. Paid $32.00 to walk 9 (my son played for free). Overpriced in my opinion. Would not go back, especially to this 9. Not sure if I would try the more expensive other 9's based on the experience of this 9.

Mark Andrews

Beautiful course, in really great condition. Some of the views with Lake Superior in the distance are really cool. Wish I had time to take more pictures. Very challenging layout!!

Sue Lawson

What an absolutely awesome golf course! Spectacular views, great layout, greens are sweet, felt like our own course because of the solitude. Played 36 and 36 the next day! Kelton the asst pro was more than accommodating and the burgers for lunch were great too! Can't wait to play there again! Leaves haven't all turned yet soooo. ... maybe next weekend too! If you can get up here before the snow it's a must play course! You'll want to take photos! Thanks everyone for a great time!

Bryan Woelfel

Great facility, great views. Well maintained.

chad deming

Nice to play 9 after not playing for a couple years. .. Kept it under 50 and lost 1 ball

Terry Valdivia

Cory Friest

Spectacular lake views, multiple challenging river crossings and dramatic topography/elevation change come together in this gem... and with 27 holes there is a great chance to get out there most days. Play it if you get a chance, even if you have only time for nine.

Scott McKay

Ryan Peterson

Foot golf was a fun way to spend a couple hours with the whole family.

Robert Tripp

Played twice in August, 2018: The views are spectacular - but you already know that. The greens are not particularly fast, but roll nicely. All the putts break to the lake - even when they appear not to. The teeboxes and fairways are clay-based and quite hard. Not the typical sand/peat mix of a resort course. Staff was friendly, pace was fine. Did not use the practice range or the mountain 9 hole course.

Ionut Cariga

James Marlowe

Great View's

Played the River and newly remodeled Canyon. Both in pretty good shape. Employees are nice and food is fresh. Views are outstanding on mostly ever hole
