From the moment my better half and I entered the Little Crow Tavern and Grille (located on the country club grounds), our dining experience was disappointing. There was neither a hostess or a "Seat Yourself/Wait to be Seated" sign to greet us. One waitress approached and did not bother to ask whether we'd like to sit at the bar or at a table. She went off to clean off a table then disappeared. In the meanwhile, two other servers asked if we had been helped. We eventually were seated by a different waitress who, like the rest of the wait staff, appeared to lack friendliness, confidence, and knowledge. The drinks menu was extremely limited, and whatever was on tap was called "craft" beer ("craft" Blue Moon???). The menu offered the humdrum food one might expect at a greasy spoon diner or fast-casual chain: burgers, flatbreads, wraps, and typical Sunday dinner plates (walleye, chicken breast, etc.). I ordered the "lighter" steak burger which came with an insipid salad in a tiny bowl, and my better half received a similar, larger salad. The dominant feature of the salad was translucent white iceberg lettuce. I've had more appealing salads at fast food restaurants. Though our server said the steak burger sans bun would come with the usual toppings (tomato, pickle, onion), it had no toppings, though ketchup and mustard were offered. Its frilly lettuce leaf bed did little to improve its appeal. The breadstick also served with my meal was bland and consumed only to ward off hunger. My better half's "portabella chicken" was equally disappointing. The cream sauce contained one and a half pieces of mushroom, the chicken was dry, and the green beans served on the side were mushy. The wild rice might have come out of a box of Uncle Ben's for its quality. Both were over-priced, and as we ate I wished I had chosen a different locale for our date night. Throughout our meal, the staff was constantly moving through the dining area without obvious reason and/or rearranging tables and chairs. Tables sat in the way of traffic flow from the vestibule to a larger dining room, and groups had to walk single file between the bar and diners to reach this destination. When the waitress asked how our food was, I gave her a restrained review of its disappointing features. Rather than offer us free dessert or a percentage off our meal, or even say she'd tell the manager or chef about our experience, she acted insulted that we would give an honest response. Our response was doubly disappointing because we are locals who would perhaps frequent this place if the service and food were impressive, but that does not appear to be in our future now. This establishment fits the bill to serve middle-aged to senior golfers who just want a boozy drink and familiar menu as well as hotel guests who don't want to go far for their meal.
