REVIEWS OF Stow Acres Country Club IN Massachusetts

Matthew Regan

Really time to upgrade the driving range area. It is almost falling apart. The two courses are decent and well maintained for a public course

Ian Martz

Played the North course last week.....which is actually quite a good/challenging layout. Plus it is walkable. If it was in better shape, it has the bones to be one of the top public courses in the state. Unfortunately, the condition is pretty bad.....patchy rough and fairways, poor drainage, spongy greens, etc. Not worth the $75 weekend rate w cart.

Bruce Ferjulian

Two 18 hole courses. South course is more up and down, North course is flatter.

Uncle Steve

Fall golf at its finest. Had a great time played both courses. If I had to pick my favorite would be the South course. It was worth the 45 minute drive. The entire staff was very efficient and laid back. I’m looking forward to playing here again in the spring.

Joey LeClair

Blake Minchoff

Extremely overpriced for the quality. Challenging layout to the course but fairways, rough, tees all in horrible condition. Easy to lose a ball in the fairway.

Michael Robichaud

The wife and I were trying to find a place between CT and home. They have two courses. We played on the north course. We didn't know what to expect; the fairways were ok but the greens were fantastic! I've played on 2 courses in SC(April) and 5 different in NH so far this year(2015) and these were in the best shape by far!

Robert Moriarty

Course is in great shape. Very friendly people. Enjoyed my day.

T.C. K

Should be called Shady Acres the way they conduct business. Instead of honoring gift cards sold from the previous owner, they're telling to either contact my credit card company to claim fraud, contact the Massachusetts AG, or I'm out of luck. Basically they'd prefer to lose me as a customer for good than to honor the old gift cards. Their idea of customer service is have the customer solve the problems themselves.

Jean-Yves Lagarde

North Course much more interesting than South Course although hole #10 and 11 do not flow nicely with the rest of the course. Sand bunkers are in pretty bad shape (and have been for years). Greens are generally in good shape and interesting to play. Agree with other reviewer: reservation system by phone is a huge turn off as way too convoluted. Good thing, they accept and welcome reservation for singles and you are hugely paired with a good crowd.

Mike Zucarelli

Greens are in terrible condition. Some have a disease others have sand in holes on the greens. Leaves all over the greens. No one blew off the greens so putting is difficult at best. This is an expensive course so conditions should be much better. Also, 5 hour pace of play on a Friday afternoon. FYI.

Jon Najarian

Really disappointing. Played the North course 9/21. Greens and tee boxes were in AWFUL condition. Bunkers looked like they hadn't been raked in a week. Overall stunningly bad condition. Not even worth the $59 they charged us. Too bad because it would be a great course if they took care of it. Do yourself a favor and go to Red Tail instead.

Nancy Richert

This is the best public course in the area in my opinion. The greens have a nice roll and are in great shape. Fairways are well separated from each other so you are not hearing People yelling Fore every 5 minutes. Its serene and women get a big advantage with forward tees. Many people walk with pull carts . There is a driving range . Staff is very accommodating and best of all they carry small sizes and cute clothes in the golf shop ! I only wish it wasn't a 1 hr drive to get there

Billy Lacey

Terrific course, always in great shape.

Ming Chen

the best part of these two courses are the greens. Very good conditions for public courses.

Purchased a gift card here in December for the driving range. Cost was $90 to hit 10 buckets of balls. When I went to use it, the meathead at the pro shop said they weren't honoring these because they were purchased under the old ownership. Um... we're talking about range balls here. I wasn't asking them to go make a set of golf clubs for me that would cost them additional money. All I wanted was the driving range time I purchased a few months ago and they absolutely refused to let me use their driving range! Customer service at its worst. They just lost the few rounds I would have played here every year for the next 20 years because they decided to be inflexible on RANGE BALLS!

Owen Lee

I played at the south course and I want to come back. Update: 7/4/2016, I played at the north for the first time and was disappointed. Most of the teeing grounds and fairways were not in good shape.

David Herrera

Went here for an outing and it was a fun time. They have two 18 hole course which were in pretty good shape. The greens were in rough shape but it is something that should be expected from any golf course as turf maintenance is an art and hard to do especially at a place this size. They also have a big clubhouse and driving range and The food they served was delicious. Would definitely recommend this place

Prasad Vasiraju

Walked the North back nine. Very low value for money. Fairways were high cut and the greens were in poor shape. The tee boxes were also not maintained. Not going back.

Harry Yao

Just played yesterday at the North Course. It is in pretty good shape. North course is a great walking course for me. Too bad I had to take a cart on a not so crowded course. Will come back weekdays so I don't have to ride.

Craig Bellisario

Seems like greens are always aerated and try giving the pro shop a call multiple times all I get is music, a ring and then they just hang up.

Daniel Taylor

Stan Gutowski

Course looks great this spring!

Unfortunately the starter has no clue and left our group waiting to tee off. With a tee time 45 minutes earlier. Then tried to put a foursome in front of us that did not have a tee time but wanted to play the north. They charged more money for the north side than the south. This is not the same stow acres of years ago. Conditions were just ok! I don't see us going back to an overpriced average condition course.

Jamie Kane

Dana DeFreitas

Marty Galner

North Course is in terrible condition except for the greens. Tees and fairways have huge amounts of bare spots. It is definitely not worth the money they charge

Mark Tucker

Just did the driving range. Nice set up, reasonable price. Need better instructions on the ball dispensing machine. I stopped to explain it to people a few times.

What a dump this once great course (north) has become. The starter (midday on Sunday 8-19) was not a nice person. The greens are DEPLORABLE!!!!!!!!! Oh and the absolute best walking golf course ever built now forces you to take a cart. I have not played such poor conditions ANYWHERE IN YEARS. Yes it is that bad. A non golf golfnow tee time will run you $80!!!! It's actually criminal what they are doing there. I saw a response the management had to an earlier poor review. They say it's getting better. IT IS NOT!!!!! Do not go here. You'll have more fun taking $80 and throwing it out the window.

Paul Kandarian

An amazing, skilled course. I've only played there a few times, so I may not be the most educated on Stow Acres, and I've only played the south course, I've yet to have a bad experience and have played great. Course offers players from 15-20 handicap a great skill round and way to better your game. And scratch golfers can hone their skills on a smooth, yet tricky course. Beginners may want to steer clear.

nice layout - it's usually in good shape.

Linda Baker

North course at least is in poor shape. Definitely not worth the greens fee unless your sole purpose for playing as long drives, as the greens are so chewed up that you can't make a straight putt. Not enough people to take care of it and scheduling tournaments in wet weather has really beaten the course up.

Michael Trudel

Clean course

Paul Paolini

Absolute dump

Great course!!

Not worth the money. The course was in despicable shape this year. I stopped going years ago for the same reasons and gave it one more chance- Hasn't changed.

I have played at Stow Acres off and on for a while now it is a great place, I probably would not recommend it to beginners, as it is very difficult an average player can get through and enjoy the round. Greens are always in good shape and the course is kept green even in a drought, the fairways could use a little work, and the front desk could be a little friendlier the rest of the staff is great and the course is fun to play! All in all a good golf experience.

Mike Toohill

Played the much hyped North course. Interesting layout but a pretty typical New England woodland course. Conditions were not good. And it is crowded and slow. Many better choices in the area but most of them are more expensive.

Robert Dietrich

The worse course I've ever played! Every green was diseased along with the fairways and tee boxes. I played the North and people said the South is in the same shape. I played this Saturday Sept 15th and when i made the tee time earlier in the week i asked about aeration and they said the greens were in great shape. Do not play this course, bad enough it's in terrible shape but the staff are out right liars and are basically stealing money from the paying public, quite disrespectful. I will never play this course ever again.

Played the north course and for $79 it was a complete rip off. Thought despite dry weather a course charging so much would have better conditions. Greens were fine but hard tee boxes, burnt out rough and don't be fooled by the bright bunkers which just happen to be thick sand that compares to nowhere else.

Andre Soares

Greens in great shape. Interesting layout. Friendly staff. Good value with good now rate.

Christopher Selway

Great experience, I love both 18 hole courses and would rate my time there as very favorable!! Good staff who are willing to do what they can to enhance your experience.

Greens were in tough shape on the north course.

I played in early August 2014. Even one of the proshop employees raved that we would enjoy the course and that the course is in good condition (especially the greens). I'll give it one star for good greens. There were several with brown spots on many of the greens but at least they rolled true. However, do not expect much from anything else from a quality standpoint. I played the North Course which is supposed to be better and I can't say that the $90 was well spent money. The rough height was very inconsistent, even around the greens. The rough itself was spotty in many locations. The fairways around the par 3's were just dirt. The bunkers were in horrible shape. I honestly expected a lot more out of a course that was previously used for the PGA qualifier. There are many other courses that are way better and cost about the same. Try Shaker Hills or Red Tails. You'll enjoy those courses a lot more than this one. You've been warned!

John Livengood

Course conditions have improved under new owners.

Cabel Morey

South course is fun and challenging but not too difficult to be defeating. No cart "girl's" though.

Samuel L Webb II

Newly acquired in past 2 years and being beautifully groomed. Nice practice greens, clubhouse, 2 courses and a golf school and driving range!

Robert Smith

Played the heralded North course in mid October, my first time there. I see now why it was used for PGA tour local qualifying for years for the Deutsche Bank tournament. Played the way backs as much as possible and it's tough. Greens were excellent. Some lengthy tree lined doglegs and some wide open holes. The guy at the desk was crabby though.

Adam Battaglino

Nice courses especially the North Course, but the maintenance is horrible. I would not pay to play their.

Marc Sotiropoulos

An absolute cow pasture. Played 5-10-18, was charged 59 dollars for this embarrassing mess. Bunkers are awful. Couple holes on the front 9 are totally casual water. Golf shoes soaked on a perfectly dry day with no rain the last few days. Greens are ok but not great. Course is sloppy. Go check out the driving range across the street. A complete dump.

Barry Gauthier

We played the North Course recently. It's in horrible condition. For the price they ask to play this dump, it should be in pristine condition. You got weeds growing in the bunkers, lots of dirt patches where grass should be in some fairways, tee boxes are worse than my weed infested lawn with much of the grass missing. The greens weren't bad but I will never play it again. Seek out other MUCH better courses in the area for your $69 walking rate.

J V

Nice course, and well equipped clubhouse.

The conditions on this track with two 18 hole courses continue to deteriorate. Poor turf management of the tees, fairways, rough and greens. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does. They don’t even bother to mow and clean the greens in the morning. Just terrible. Don’t bother unless you like wasting your money.

Stowe Acres is a mediocre course at best, however, apparently they don't do well with lost and found. Left a rain coat at the course, called them that afternoon and they found my jacket put my name and number on it. Since I live in the city I let them know I would be out there in the next few weeks, but wouldn't be right away. They said no problem as they don't "toss" stuff that has a name on it. Called 3-4 weeks later after I found some time to head back out to stowe, however now the coat is gone. They still say that they don't "toss" stuff with people's name on it. However, I imagine someone from the pro shop probably has a new rain coat... Do not recommend.

Dan Kohanna

Enjoyable courses with nice scenery from towering pine forests, to wetlands, to open fields. However, some of the tee boxes and fairways are in rough shape and could use some attention.

not what it used to be

Mark Chandler

Played the South Course on 10 Aug in a scramble. Nice layout. However, a 2 greens were not the best. The others were fairly nice and required a bit of concentration to make putts. Overall course condition was fair to good. The Par 3's were all different. Target golf required on the par 5's. Some nice short interesting par 4's. There is one tough uphill long par 4 which plays harder that the par 5's. Would play again. Great value on senior weekday rate riding of $35. Weekend rate riding of $65 is a bit overpriced. Weekend rate riding of $55 after 1pm is about what the course is worth based on current conditions. Would recommend the course.

Sawyer McLamb

Course was kept in great shape during a time with minimal rainfall. Challenging course for intermediate golfers. Only problem for me was the speed of the greens (very slow).

Kurt C

Course was decent, but challanging. I would not recommend any newbies to this course. I found some of the holes rather difficult than most courses in mass. The course was well organized and you never had to worry about the people behind you. The greens where ok, I noticed alot of divits and holes on them. Fairways were nice for December weather.

I had an old gift card that was still valid, but they refused to honor it, stating that they changed ownership after I got the gift card, they have no way of reading it. They should note that they're required by law to honor it, but they refuse. They offered a free round of golf instead, but I refused. So now I'm out $130, and will never golf here ever again.

Mark Lyons

Chris Sablone

North course was in terrible shape. The tee boxes weren't mowed all week probably. We played at 8am on a Saturday and the greens weren't rolled. Supposedly they put 3 million into this course, more like the owners wallet

Corey Fullerton

Great place when it's not snowing

Ronald Ekstrom

Great golf course.

Mark Worthington

This is a nice course but their robo-tee-time reservation system is so frustrating to use that I just decided I'd rather play at Cyprian Keys.

Stow Acres is a great course. There is 36 holes to play here which is nice. The greens were in great shape and I was able to make some putts which helped my score. I would recommend the North Course over the South, but it tends to get very busy, especially on weekends. Stow Acres is a partner of The CollegeGolfPass too. College students get to save $20 per round using the collegegolfpass card. I would highly recommend this course which is in a convenient location right off 495.

6/19/16 Played yesterday North coarse will not play again this year here. They are losing this course!!! greens are in bad shape and fairways are too. Took close to 5 1/2 hours to play teeing off before 7 am. Will not come back until I hear things have changed . Don't get excited about the million dollars they say was put into this course there is new white sand but its all smoke and mirrors traps are hard below a top coat of the white sand. Such a waste of a great layout !

Benjamin Skaar

This 18 hole golf course is very scenic and has a nice club house.

Michael Donnellan

John Griffith

Was here for the driving range. On location ball machines take credit cards. Large bucket is $12. Can get crowded on weekends. Putting area is a joke, which is the only real downside. Oh and watch the potholes in the parking lot!

Carl Townsend

Absolutely horrible! It's terrible that they charge high end prices for this dump. I've been golfing for 30 years and played all over. 0kayed here about 8 times over the years. This course over the years has gone from good to goat patch. Stay away

Christopher Palmer

William Niland

Coarse is in terrible condition. Definitely should be less money to play here. Also left my gps watch on golf cart. Most likely pocketed by staff. Never going back.

TheBriGuy

I love playing Stow Acres South. I haven't played the North in many years but I really like this track. It is challenging and fun to play.

Jared Silver

Nice courses. South course is more difficult. Can sometimes find great deals on GolfNow.
