REVIEWS OF The Links at Challedon IN Maryland

Dathan Turner

Staff was great, setting was great, grass still green despite being so dry lately. I will agree with some previous reviews that the tee boxes aren't in the best shape. The other issue is golfers not repairing ball marks on the greens. There were TONS! Maybe this could be emphasized by staff when checking in. We had a great day!

Wasted Gravity

On Wed Nov 7 I had a tee time of 8:54. According to the on-line booking this was the last tee time until after 12pm. As we were playing we never noticed any other golfers on the course. It was cart path only due to the wetness of the course and there were a lot of leaves to contend with. I'm assuming the time between 9am and 12pm was closed to golfers so the course could be cleaned of leaves for the golfers teeing off after 12pm. If this was the case I believe the charge of $41. senior cost, was a little excessive since the early golfers had to put up with losing balls in the leaves.

Robert Coffman

I played yesterday with our Tuesday Golfing Group. The course was in excellent condition for this time of year. I am looking forward to playing again in a few weeks after the greens have healed after aeration.

Erik Schonher

Wnderful course. My first time back in 20 years and i found the setting inviting. The grounds are well kept, easy to park and the staff very helpful and professional.

Brian Finkbohner

The course was in fantastic shape and all of our foursome left with praise for Challendon.

Josef Brown

Enjoyed the course very much but some of the tee boxes need grass.

Patrick Gahan

The course is absolutely beautiful and under new management that has taken it to the next level!

Bonnie Dixon

My husband and I decided to try something different however, when we arrived at the restaurant we were not greeted by the 4 servers/bartender standing around. There was no sign that said wait to be seated or seat your self. So we sat ourselves because no one made any type of acknowledgement of our presence. Right then we wanted to leave but we gave it a chance. Two waitresses walked right past us several times and not once said hello or gave us menus...nothing. Finally, a waitress appeared from the back and began to serve us. While the food was great the overall experience was terrible, the table was wobbly and sticky and we just felt like we didn’t belong there. We will not go back and definitely not be recommending this place.

Bill Hermach

Challedon is a very good value with a good design, nice service, decent clubhouse and relatively challenging with enough space for the higher handicap folks.

Rahsaan Odom

I play this course once a week. I chose to play here because of the staff, course conditions and the good folks that I see regularly.

Daniel Broadwater

Course Review: 1) Tee boxes: in mixed conditions: Often hard to find level striking ground on t-boxes. 2) Fairways: in nice condition; well maintained. 3) Greens in average condition for public course, but many players apparently need to show respect for course by repairing ball marks. Sometimes dozens per green. Pity the greens keeper, who otherwise has done a nice job on and around the greens. Btw. No marshall to be seen on day our foursome played. Group ahead kept us to a rather slow 4hr45min pace. Difficult to score normal with stop-&-go pace. C+ rating for Aug. 30, 2019 course playing conditions.

Dan Dobay

Was pleased with the experience. The staff was friendly and the beer was cold. The course was in pretty good shape considering the amount of rain we have had in the last thirty days. Will be back for more soon !

Matt Reaves

I've played Challedon multiple times this year already. The course is always in great shape, just make sure you bring your straight-hitting clubs. OB is everywhere out there since houses surround just about every hole. All of the facilities are great, and at twilight you can ride for around $30, which is pretty good for the quality of the course. Also, it's generally not too crowded compared to other courses closer to Baltimore.

Mike Garner

The course was in good shape. The greens need a little work. The staff was friendly. I found it to be a fun course. It has something for all skill levels. I will hopefully play it again. I would recommend it to my friends.

Roger West

I played on a Monday. There was a small outing on the course, but the pace of play was still good. Course conditions were very good, especially the bunkers which is my gripe with most other courses in the area. The staff was friendly and efficient as always. The improvements made to the course over the past year are noticeable and appreciated. I definitely recomend playing this course.

Darryl Arnold

As good as you can expect from a public course. Nice layout, tough but fair. Staff is friendly, no overbearing Marshalls, etc.

Brett Trammell

The course was nice. The starter was was very friendly and helpful, and everyone in the clubhouse was as well. The restaurant was out of multiple items. The most off-putting thing was every so often the Marshall would show up and give us a hard time for being slow. The group behind us was never on our heels. I probably wouldn't return.

Jim Pendergast

Played this course for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely on my list of courses to play again. The course was in great shape even accounting for all the rain that week. Even with the greens having been top dressed, the greens were very playable and putts ran true. The course does run through a housing development, but the houses are well set back from the course so you don't notice them much.

Kenny o'brien

course is great. Great condition, great layout, and real friendly people. Good food and atmosphere too! highly recommend it.

Nick Brame

Played 5/15/19 and found the Course to be in Great Shape. My Round was enjoyable and fun. The food was good too! I look forward to returning.

Brian Durkin

Challodon is an excellent golf course. I played it several times throughout the year and each time I found the course well maintained in every area. There is a wide range of tees with enough space between then to satisfy the long hitters and the not so long. The rough was reasonably benign minimizing 'egg hunting time'. The layout of the course is such that walking is not practical and taking a cart is recommended. The clubhouse is nice with a good bar having a wide variety of beers from all over the world. The staff was very friendly and polite. I highly recommend the Links at Challedon.

JoAnne Fernandez

Course is in beautiful shape, but unless you are a 20 year old woman on the LPGA tour, it's very unfair to women, generally, and, at almost 5,400 yards, almost impossible to play for senior women. I played with my senior husband today--he has a much lower handicap than me and he's playing the silver tees, which gave me a whopping 30 yard advantage over him on every hole. No way I can compete with that. There was a 168 yard par three for women that required me to pull out my driver! Unfair! One par 4 tee box on the front nine--think it was No 6 or 7--had a carpeted mat for women to drive from. You can't even tee the ball up! Double unfair! No man would stand for this, and I'm voting with my pocketbook and not playing at Challedon again until they have senior ladies tees--like they have senior tees for the men.

Bob Krysick

Very friendly staff. Course was in good condition. I very much appreciate the Player Development Program Offer that they have. In addition, I find the bar and wait staff to be very friendly, caring, and professional; especially Jane!

Ron Levendusky

Course was in great condition despite the lack of rain. Only complaint is that Challedon needs a marshal to enforce pace of play. We followed a twosome of ladies. They took a practice swing before EVERY shot. This contributed to the 4 hour plus weekday round that we experienced.

Darrell Freels

I have always liked the layout ,at Challedon. NOW, your amenities and FOOD are GREAT. Not to mention, "The Sunday Football Special"!

James Zobrisky

Had Briana as my server did a great job got me everything I needed fast, food is great

Lorraine Polvinale

We enjoyed playing the course. It is well maintained with interesting holes. The staff were very nice. We will definitely return.

Therese Smith

We spent a lovely birthday evening on the links at Challedon and although we used to be on the course daily, when our son was a junior golfer, we don’t get there as often, sadly. We have always loved the people at Challedon from the pro shop office to the grounds crew to the restaurant workers. Everyone is great. That has not changed at all and we still love visiting with people we have grown to know and love over the years, as well as meeting all the new faces, as they are also very friendly, and engaging. The course has had its struggles with maintaining greens and tee boxes over the years but has always seemed to get them under control and provide a beautiful setting in which to play golf. I must say though that over the last few years the upgrades and maintaining of the clubhouse and the course have really added an increased beauty and value to the experience at Challedon. What is new at Challedon over the last year or so is the increased vitality with families and youth on the range, taking lessons and playing routinely at the course. When my son first developed his passion for the sport he was one of the few youth to be at the course regularly developing his game. Now it has quite changed in that so many youth are there enjoying the sport and working to improve their skills. It is wonderful to see that Challedon has found the key to making this a vibrant golf community for families and kids of all ages. Thank you Challedon for everything you have done to make us always feel like family over the years and for providing the experiences you have given our son which have been invaluable to his ongoing success in college and life.

Barry Carroll

This place is a gem! Beautiful course, well laid out. Also took advantage of the driving range and sand trap practice area. Staff in the pro shop were super helpful. Highly recommend.

Jeremy Reid

I don't golf that often, but when I do - it's at The Links At Challedon! The staff was really friendly during my previous visit and the atmosphere was great. Despite accidentally breaking my friend's golf driver during my last visit, I can see myself returning to this golf course in the future. When next my need for golf becomes impossible to resist, to Challedon I will go!

Jim Scarborough

Played there on Labor Day. We went off on time, Mid Morning, and had no delays all day. Greens were a little rough but serviceable. Price was very reasonable and they did offer Senior Rates too! Rough was a little long and we lost some time looking for balls from time to time. Other than that, we had a great day!

Dave Schutz

Course in great shape.. Greens a bit bumpy, but playable.

Andrew Taylor

Great course any time of the year but I will never go back again. One of the home owners in the development thinks it's a great idea to fly his drone over holes 11 thru 14. I know everyone in my group plus the two groups behind and the one in front were very annoyed by it. The worse part about it is whoever it was would hover 10 feet about you while your on the tee box. If it would have came closer I would have swing a club at it and smashed it. It's safe to say links at challedon will have to pay for this person's stupidity. Cause I, along with 15 other golfers all admitted we will never come back.

Edwin Duran

They over book, so slow, never coming back

John Valente

Always like playing this course. Due to vast amount of rain in our region, the course was muddy and fairways a bit beat up. Greens in decent shape for time of year. Great value as we did the $35 weekday with lunch special.

Rick Ferri

The course is in great shape an the staff are top notch. Crab cake was ---delicious ---what a plus !

Christopher So

i played this sunday, tee boxes are bad as were the greens. The green fees are good, but a little far out. The layout is good, if they could only fix the tee box and greens.....

Kristin Furr

The Challedon event staff provided excellent service to our guests for our 20th class reunion this spring. The manager was friendly and very accommodating. The atmosphere was relaxed, yet professional. They even helped us decorate for our event. I highly recommend Challedon for your next event!

Benjamin Greenberg

As a terrible golfer, they certainly were welcoming of my lack of experience. Great work staff, great food, and a great time. Full disclosure: my dad is one of the owners. Great job fixing up the place dad!

Linda Rhee

The fairways are in fantastic shape considering the lack of rain. Most of the greens were good as well, with the exception of a couple. Grounds crew keep the course in excellent condition, despite not having rain for almost three weeks. Staff is friendly and very welcoming, even to those of us in the mid-range level of playing!

I.E. Xam

The first nine holes are more difficult than the back nine. For most of course the greens and fairways were in good to very good condition. Elevation on alot of holes. Not a good course for a beginner. Scenic and well laid out.

Norma Henderson

Challedon is a BEAuTiFUL golf course. I played it for the first time thru GolfNow yesterday. I found the course well maintained. The crew was out there working hard in the hot sun and Eclipse of the Moon. The rough was "rough" and it was easy to lose balls in there. The layout of the course is really nice but play was very slow. Needed a marshall. The staff was very friendly and polite. I definitely recommend the Links at Challedon. Had a LoVeLY day (*_*)

Jeff S.

Family membership is terrific. Friendly staff, nice layout, family friendly, nice restaurant inside the clubhouse for after round. Peaceful setting. We consider this our home course for sure.

Paul Sill

Played on 8/31/17. Course was in pretty decent shape. Greens were probably recently aerated as they were a little rough, but not bad. All in all, the course has improved in quality over the last couple of years, and is one of my favorite local places to play.

Peter Mixa

Played this past Saturday 6/22/19, the course was in great shape.

dana hess

The staff at Challedon is outstanding. I've run an event there for 5 years and they are always accommodating. The course has a great layout, but conditions could be improved. The tee boxes are not in good shape (particularly the ladies). Whatever they put on hole #6 for a ladies tee box is a far cry from a tee box. You cannot drive a tee into it unless you spend 5 minutes looking for a little tiny hole. I end up teeing up in the fairway. Should have left the tee box downhill where it used to be. Collars are in sad shape. Greens are average. Some upkeep to the course and this place could be spectacular!

Tom McFalls

Course is in excellent condition. Many courses are showing stress from the summer heat but not this one. This was a nice getaway from our normal course. Very welcoming pro-shop, beverage, and starter. Kudos to the superintendent for keeping the course in good condition in trying times.

Loren Rush

The course is a beautiful layout. The staff was friendly and efficient. While well taken care of, the tee boxes need serious work. The fairways are in reasonable shape but could use seeding once in a while. The greens roll fair but a few too many bare spots. Overall, our experience was enjoyable. Now that we have our maiden voyage around the course out of the way, we look forward to playing the links at Challadon again.

Aaron Deeb

We play here often and love the atmosphere and people. Also, the outside patio is a great place for food and drinks.

Bob Rounds

This by far my favorite course. Even though I live 38 miles from the course it has become my home course. The staff is the best and the course is always in great condition. Many improvements have taken place under the new ownership and they were great. The Grill and the menu is great.

Dan Smith

Their chef is fantastic. We've enjoyed all of his Saturday specials (prime rib, crab cakes, smoked shrimp). Reasonably priced, has a great outdoor patio and kid friendly. Don't miss the live music every other Saturday.

O Salon

Great value for a course in great condition ,just disappointed could not get lunch after the round.

Jian Xu

Played twice this winter so far. Fast and well maintained green. Well maintained fairway. Great for the money. A little slow in the back 9 holes at Saturday.

Wayne Shugars

I played this course on day one. Bit is still beautiful. I love it. Play it.

David Choate

The course seems to be improving. The green are recovering from infused airy-ating , much improved over the last couple of years.

Alex Wroblewski Jr.

I would strongly recommend everyone to play at this course. It is a great course to play for all abilities. Food at course very good and the staff very friendly. We enjoy playing there every year for the past 10-15 years.

Michele Adams

This was my first and last visit. Because the restaurant is open to the public, I decided to try it out with 2 friends. While the food was good and reasonably priced, the service is poor. Our waitress was inattentive, slow and less than polite. We won’t be back nor will I recommend the restaurant.

C Clay

Played the course on September 16, 2017. Great shape; nice upgrades to the course, clubhouse and practice facilities. It's a must play and a must for me to play before the end of the season

rick jones

Course was extremely well manicured, staff was friendly and helpful. Would like to see more 200 and 150 markers on some of the holes. Otherwise a great course at a reasonable rate.

John Moore

My group plays here at least once a month year round. The course is almost always in great shape even after all the rain we have had. The staff is very friendly and we have never had a bad experience here. Challedon is our favorite course to play. Keep up the good work!

Rick Almony

Links at Challedon is a good track with lots of hole variety and challenge. The greens and fairways were in impeccable condition. I always enjoy my rounds at Links at Challedon. However, the tee boxes need work. They've struggled with these over the years but it appears that they may be working on them since some regular tee boxes were not in use. If they can get their tee boxes in shape this course can be one of the best in the area.

Rich Carlson - IQSC

Course was in pretty good shape considering all the rain that came this spring. Thanks to Josh in the clubhouse and the starter for accommodating us, we were late getting started, but they fit us in nicely. Pace of play was good. One thing I would add as a suggestion would be for a beverage/snack cart to occasionally come by while playing. Helps keep pace moving at the turn.

IA Gun

Got a great rate yesterday for a course that we always enjoy golfing at. Staff always friendly and accommodating. For Fall conditions(very sandy greens) course was very playable. Fall colors definitely showing at The Links at Challedon!

Ray Fox

Course was in pretty good condition. Very friendly staff, from the moment you arrive until you are done and chilling at the bar and grill. Kudos to Jane and Malayna for outstanding friendly service!

sungjin kim

I played here yesterday. It was good condition and kind staffs. I was real happy.

Corey Hahn

First of all I want to say this course is one of my personal favorites to play in the area. Love the layout and generally the course is in great condition. Today was no exception the Course was beautiful other than a few tee boxes being chopped up from divots(can’t fault the course on that one). The only blemish coming today was a ranger who came up to us after our 10th hole and informing us we were 2 holes behind. Meanwhile had not seen a group in front of us or behind us all day and this is early afternoon on a Saturday. He told us we needed to pick up our pace( with attitude). At this point into our round we were 2 hours and 25 minutes in which according to their pace of play sheet is 3 minutes behind. So not equal to 2 holes by any means. We talked to the ranger defending ourselves and telling him the pace we were on and he gave us attitude about the matter telling us the time we teed off was wrong from his sheet. My friend had an Apple Watch tracking our round time from the beginning so we knew we were not behind. I love a good pace of play policy but when a group is not holding anyone up and is actually on pace a ranger should not be stopping a group to give them attitude about the pace. Eventually a three son came into our range on the back but was always at least a hole behind us (foursome). Normally I would not take the time to write this review but this event angered our entire group and threw us off for a hole or so. I played this course the week before (cart path only) and had a 5+ hour round that I did not complain about due to the crowded day and path only. I will certainly be back to play the course but hope I do not encounter this ranger again due to his attitude and lack of awareness as a ranger. I feel guilty not giving this course a 5 because of one ranger but with that experience I could not convince myself to give a 5 star rating.

Steven Pfaff

Great course with a challenging layout. Course conditions are excellent. All staff are very accommodating, with attention to detail.Very proud to be a member here.

Tim T

Great place. Need a printed beer list. :)

Wendell Rudacille

My son and I played 18 yesterday. He lives in England and plays regularly there. He was impressed with the great course conditions this early in the year. It was crowded, but everything was handled very efficiently, from check-in to starting. The starter did a great job setting us up with an extra cart since my non-golfing wife went along as an observer. Compared to other courses in the area we've played recently, Challedon is in excellent shape. The last time I played there, the back nine was the front nine. I liked the change from what used to be #10 to #1 now. Thanks for keeping the course in great condition and the very efficient service, and the hot dogs were delicious!

Jim Valerio

The course is in excellent shape and the Clubhouse has a warm and inviting feel. Greg and the rest of the Pro Shop staff are attentive to families, regulars, and weekenders alike.

Frank Bradley

I shot the best round ever at this course! The course was in very good shape with the exception of some of the green tee boxes. I have played this course in the past and it was in much better shape this time that the last two times that I played there. Definitely a course you should play at some point!

Sheron Marshall

My Ladies' League plays here on Tuesdays. Very nice course. They offer a Preakness Member Card which entitles you to discounts on the course, in the Pro Shop and in the Restaurant. Food and staff are great, too!

robert withrow

Our group played there last Saturday. The greens were bumpy and it appeared had not been cut or rolled. When you charge a premium for a a course that was not in shape you would think it would be ready to play. This course was not. Needless to say I do not think we will be playing here anytime soon..

Robert Dodelin

My group all agree, we will be back!

Brian F

Got a discounted rate. Not sure it's worth 65+. Solid course. Greens are exceptionally quick and a lot slope. Out of bounds comes into play on a lot of holes. Fun experience. Not overly difficult.

Brian Smith

The course was in pretty good shape and the layout is fun and challenging. Some of the tee boxes are getting pretty beat up.

Ed Hall

Haven't played here in a while due to the course being in bad shape. Played on 7/26/19 because emails I received said the course is in great shape. I am confirming that it is in great shape ! Glad to see the it back the way it was years ago. Keep it up ! All the staff were great with one exception. The restaurant staff needs an overhaul. Stopped in for lunch after our round and could not get waited on. It wasn't crowded or busy. They gave us menus and that was it. We finally walked out. Other reviews say the same thing. Very disappointing !!

Greg M

golf course was in excellent condition! the check-in staff was every friendly and efficient! I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant and bar area. Overall a wonderful experience, and will be back for more!

Jeff Kammerer

The course was in poor shape. I paid $50 for a 2:00 tee time on a Saturday and was extremely disappointed. Tee boxes were awful, greens were chewed up and the fairway was long and patchy. Not even close to being worth $50.

Tim Holley

Played it for the first time on Labor Day. Normally, if I am in that area, I play Rattlewood (a course I really like). I enjoyed my round at Challedon and believe it to be a good alternative to Rattlewood. Both are similar in price, good golf courses, and have friendly staffs. Rattlewood may be in a little better condition, but the Challedon layout is more interesting. I will be back!

Gary DeWtt

Great course and friendly staff leads to an enjoyable time. Food and beverages in clubhouse top it off.

Ed Frankovic

Course was in good shape with the exception of a few greens on the front nine. Play moved at a good rate during a Sunday morning. Really impressed with the grille, after playing Challedon we used to leave and eat post round at the Greene Turtle. We chose to stay at the newly remodeled Challedon Grille and it was the right choice. The pizzas and burgers were fantastic. In fact, one guy who lives close said he was going to work the Grille into his route on the way home to pick up a pizza. From now we will golf and then eat post round at Challedon.

Mark McNulty

Chef Patrick has done a great job of upgrading the food and Stacy has improved the bar & service. The Saturday night music and dinner is a must for Mt. Airy locals.

SY Wang

For this season of year , Green condition and fairway condition are reasonable. Just couple holes had mud ground . Otherwise , everything is great . We had a lot fun in here . The club house people are great , nice people , excellent service .

Christopher Kelleher

The grille is a great place to eat! My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner there. The appetizers exceeded our expectations, and the entrees surpassed their price points. The staff was enjoyable. All around, a very good dining experience!

Kwangsoo Han

I played a round on 6/24/18 after a rainy day. The course held up very well and was in a very good condition. The soft greens helped the ball stop nicely, but still the greens were fast enough to roll the ball smoothly. It was my first time at this course, but I can tell the course requires a few tactical club selections off the tee. Nice views also please your eyes. I definitely will play there again.

Jim Loetz

The course is was in good shape. I like playing the course. No complaints about the golf course. The service is not so good. We like to play early in the morning and there was no refreshment cart on the course until the 17th hole. The water coolers had warm water in them and I think it was left there from the day before because it didn't taste good. When we stopped by the clubhouse on the turn to get some refreshments there was no one there and no one answered the phone to place an order on the 9th tee. I give 4 stars just because the course was in great shape.

Bruce Bryan

Very nice course - well maintanied and the resturants food was wonderful, I didn't expect the broad food menu. Will go back just for dinner. The crab cakes are fantastic!
