Great course, great condition, challenging layout. Would have been 5 stars if it wasn't cart path only today
Terrible day. We had a 718 tee time and the carts weren’t even staged by 715. The head pro became irritated when we asked for a cart and then chased out down the first fairway and accused us of leaving early (we were already 10 behind the tee time due to the cart situation). Greens were awful and had more weeds and crabgrass than actual turf. Beautiful layout but not well executed by maintenance or the grounds crew. Will not be back. Especially at $80
Hottest day... drink cart didn't ruin because it was too hot!? Only 2 water/ ice stations. Beautiful course
18 hole signature Jack Nicklaus course in amazing condition. Amazing experience with a great staff. Crab soup was wonderful.
The best hamburger, Courteous Staff, and the wonderful surroundings
We have played Potomac Shores Golf Club 5 times and have had very good experiences. The course has always been a good shape and the staff has been courteous. The course is set up in a big circle so you continue to head away from the clubhouse and if there is no snack cart out make sure you have a snack and drink with you. The driving range is very good, but it is a little small and is located a long way from the clubhouse and 1st Tee. The course itself has a ton of dog leg rights and the greens can be very tricky. FYI...even though the name is Potomac Shores you will not have any views of the Potomac as long as there are leaves on the trees. Overall I recommend playing the course at least once. It is a challenging-fair golf course and worth the money to play.
Beautiful scenery, the buttermilk fried chicken was excellent, the venue is lovely and well maintained, the service was great.
One of the top 5 courses in the Washington DC area.
Lovely course, fast greens, but I feel at $115 on a Sunday afternoon it's a bit pricey.
Nice place
nice
Underwhelmed by the course. Our group just couldn't think of anything exceptional or memorable about the layout. The fairways are pretty divot-filled. I know the rain this year has made it difficult to maintain but for the cost it is pretty much like a public course where no one repairs their divots. The torrential rains has also made the traps like sandy lakes. Seems like some holes have a half-mile drive between them.
WOW! Hosted a surprise anniversary party for our parents at this venue. It was absolutely beautiful. This is the perfect place for an event. The furnishings, decor, view, food and service were exceptional. Very high end for reasonable price. We all live out of town and booked this without any issues. The event coordinator, Kelsie is amazing!!
Potomac Shores Golf Club is the first publicly accessible Jack Nicklaus Signature design in the Washington DC metro area. This excellently crafted Nicklaus design expansively sweeps its way out-and-back through an attractive hardwood forest. Although lacking any holes that play directly alongside the creek or river, the roaming layout does incorporate many dramatic elevation changes.
One of the most beautiful, best designed, coolest golf courses I've ever played. I've played plenty of golf courses. The carts have a cooler with ice and that's a first for me. The drinks you can get on the course from a refreshment cart are the cheapest of the courses I've played. Real flushable toilets in several holes that you can access using a code they'll give you when you check in. It's one of the longest courses and you can't walk it. Take this from a marathon runner. The food is amazing though the service in the clubhouse is a little slow. Course surrounded by beautiful homes and Potomac shores trails. The course is new so Google maps does not have the clubhouse mapped. I wasted almost half an hour finding the clubhouse. Follow the club house signs. Nice practice range with drinks and a bathroom that is far from clubhouse and hard to find with all the construction.
The staff was very friendly and the food was amazing.
A lucky find on our way to Pinehurst. Very challenging picturesque course. Beautiful clubhouse and grounds. Conditions were excellent for us and no need leave the property if you're looking for a good meal.
This is my new best public course in the area.
great place to eat and beautiful facilities come one come all one of my new favorite spots
Beautiful. Very difficult greens. Plays much longer. Loved it. Staff was great
Manificient golf course and not very challenging from amateur tee boxes!
Wow! This place is magnificent. I need another invite back.
Excellent course at very reasonable price. Friendly staff and course is in excellent condition.
Good food.
Lovely place
Great course and the staff is awesome
Truly a terrible experience. The "local guide reviews" clearly are not written by golfers or are fake reviews. The greens are in horrific shape and were sanded down in the multiple dead areas on every green, which was not reflected in the rate of $80. Teeboxes were either mud or crabgrass. The staffing and communication was poor as I was told by the pro shop staff I was the first tee time out at 7:20, had my email confirmation for 7:20, and after waiting for a half hour to get a cart (arrived at 6:45 am, did not get a cart until 7:15 for a 7:20 tee time) my friend and I were then told we had to wait until 7:50 to play as the maintenance crew was behind. The course has a ton of potential with a great design, however the maintenance of the course is as bad or worse than any muni I have ever played. Do not waste your time playing here until the course condition is improved if you are a remotely serious golfer.
Great Service! Good food! Love love love the view.
Very good view and food
Great staff and good food. The only course that serves liquor on the course in the area. Always a fun time. :)
Course is just to expensive at 115 on a weekend with no junior rate
A little pricey but enjoyable food.
In response to the review below, I have full sleeve tattoos and have played the course several times and been treated with the utmost respect. That said, Amazing course, amazing neighborhood! Best public course in the region by far! Plays fair but challenging. Food in the clubhouse is great!
I love this couse. Rough really high so you had better keep it in the fairway. Great condition.
Nice track, but the greens were horrible....
Pretty beat up for what they are charging here. Nice layout, greens burnt in spots, not enough rakes, rakes splintered. Laurel Hill much better for about the same price.
Nice community
Nice Friendly staff and great service. Good was great.
Best Jack course of his I played hands down!!Played it Monday the 25th.
Shop here alot
Re: Tidewater Grill - Drinks were good, the food was pretty good and the prices are (mostly, an extra $12 to add salmon to a salad, yikes) reasonable. I am new to the community, so i look forward to visiting this place a lot. I had to take away one star for the appetizer hummus. It was bad. Really bad. Also, some of the chairs are fabric and the stains werent the most inviting.
The course was in great shape. The layout is fantastic and the peop l.j e are very courteous
Staff are amazing! Food is fabulous!! I have never had a bad meal or bad service!!
The Pro at Potomac Shores today was very accommodating, helpful, and informative. We played today. I loved both his customer service, and the course. Highly recommended!
Love this community!
Whoa! Nice.
Great overlook of the Potomac river
Burnt fairways, slow greens, but nice workers. This place really needs work from a conditions perspective. Not worth $79 or even $50. They need to lower it to $30 until the conditions get better. Too far out to drive too.
Incredible layout, the land they have out here in unparalleled in Northern VA...Amazing golf course, restaurant is top notch, its a GREAT experience all around
The course is in very decent condition! The greens are not lightning quick, but they are very well rolled and smooth. Fluffy bunkers and good looking fairways. The best part of this course though is the layout! Great looking course and tough greens. It's a great place to have a challenging and enjoyable round.
Fantastic layout and great conditions..a true test for any golfer. I look forward to every round here!!
Great golf course but play it with someone who knows the course, certain tee shots require it.
Layout is still great, but overall it really needs some TLC. Course is not in great shape, and the traps are ragged.
It's beautiful over there
Beautiful design, friendly and courteous staff, but some greens need work.
Great course and with the reduced sand traps makes it much more playable for most golfers. Good price for the course which is in great shape
Great course
One of the better courses in all Virginia
(Translated by Google) nice place (Original) bonito lugar
Gorgeous!
Good golf course
Designed by Nicklaus but maintained by Carl Spackler - a promising layout but probably the worst fairways in the region - terriblee. Greens were ok but cut up and bare in spots, tees in good shape. I'd' put the value for 18 at about forty dollars max. Beautiful clubhouse, pro shop and bar but i came to play golf.
Great staff. Great drinks. Next time I may have to try the golf.
Very impressive course and clubhouse.
Delightful and intimate golf club restaurant. The food was fantastic - I had a salmon dish - but the wine selection was a bit limited (only reason for 4 stars.) Will absolutely go again!!
Ok
This is the best course I've been to in the area
Great course designed by Jack Nicholson, challenging and picturesque. Club House fits the period architecture for Virginia perfectly. Staff was very accommodating, professional and friendly.
Beautiful view
Because of a couple of issues with the staff, it left me not overly impressed with staff but overall I really liked this course. We played two days in a row there and enjoyed our time out on the course.
Amazing golf course!
Great golf course and the pga pro Todd van meter awesome guy and staff
Beautiful challenging course. I remember each and every hole, because they are unique and fair. They aren't ridiculously difficult, and you can easily see what you need to do, except on a few 'blind' tee shots. Signature of a Nicklaus course. The food is EXCELLENT! Why pay private club rates when you can have it all with Potomac Shores Golf Club. Its a bit 'misleading' as you drive through Route 1 Dumfries then BAM 5 Star Golf Course and Club. I usually go with my friends to their country club, and wanted to return the favor and brought them to PSGC. One of my friends couldn't believe it because it was nicer than their club!
Really sad that I have to post a review on here to get anyone's attention. I tried emailing and calling a manager, but no one has gotten back to me. I played a round at your course on the morning of Saturday 10/13 at 8:30am with 3 other people\. We took advantage of the foursome “special” you had that was $85/person. Unfortunately, we were not informed of the terrible condition that your course was in. The only inkling we had was that your pro shop attendant told us that you are looking to start construction on bunkers in the coming week. I was not aware that this meant that you had let your course, that you charge $110.00 per round for, was is such a state of disarray. I understand that it has been a little wet, but I did not expect such poor conditions. The bunkers were unplayable, period, with standing water in nearly every one and not a square foot of soft sand to be found. Your greens were covered with large dead spots, which makes no sense with the wet weather. Finally, the drainage all over the course was flat out unacceptable for a round that costs this much. Paying that much for golf is fine, but the course needs to live up to the billing and this, unfortunately, fell massively short. If you knew that it was in bad shape, you should be discounting play commensurate with conditions. I am still requesting contact from a manager.
Bald eagle nesting area
It is great.
Layout is great, facilities are nice, fairways were great. Rough is burnt out about 40-50 percent and 80% crab grass. Greens and collars are 30-40 percent burnt out. From 9-2 on a hot Sunday not a single maintenance worker in sight watering anything. Not what I expected as every course I have played in the are this year has been in great shape. They had aerated greens a couple weeks before but that was nothing compared to the rest of the condition. Hope it comes back for next year, I would ask about the condition before going there.
Def a great course and great service. Love the layout and uniqueness of each hole. Food is great as well!
Staff is professional and welcoming. Course favors fade shots and has lots of fun and challenging fairway undulations. It's one of a kind for this area. Looking forward to their Fall golf events.
Course is in good shape and it's a challenging course
Awesome course, great layout. Hole in one booyah.
Great place
Outstanding service and delicious food. Crispiest chicken wings ever!!!
Beautiful venue. Friendly staff and fantastic food.
The ketchup was good.
My daughter had a formal banquet here, and it was amazing. They service was great, the facility was immaculate, and beautiful. I don't know the cost for the facility, but would consider it for any engagement.
Staff was every friendly and food was great.
Course is a good layout and in pretty good shape, but it took us 4:40 minutes to play on a Tuesday morning. No marshals or staff monitoring the pace of play.
Beautiful course!!!
Pricey for location.
One of the best course 8n the area. Love this plave.
Great friendly service and top notch food at the Tidewater Grill!
Great scenery for golf
Deceptively challenging layout. Lots of elevation changes. Very good condition. Greens are still very fast although not as fast as they are in season. Cart path only in the off season to preserve the fairways. Reasonable green fees in the off season however, too expensive during the season.
Great course and great hospitality.
Great food and gold, amazing course
Great people and food, beautiful neighborhood and golf course
Tough course, but it makes you think through each shot. Fun challenge.
Beautiful lay out. Prepare for hills and long tee shots from the “gold/blues” Great course and club house.
Horrible conditions. Fairways are a mess. Bunkers should have stairs in and are not taken care of. Almost all of the public courses in the area are in better shape and a third of the cost. Mr Nicklaus should take his name off of it.
Worst condition in Washington dc metro
