REVIEWS OF Atchafalaya Golf Course IN Louisiana

I have wanted to play this course for quite some time. I finally got a chance to sneak out and get out on the course. I booked a tee time using their online option and it worked out well. My first impression of the course was that it was well maintained and it looked very clean. The clubhouse is very nice, and is obviously a favorite lunch spot for people in the area. It was very busy. When I went in to the pro shop I was greeted with a smile, and the girl at the desk was able to answer all of the questions about the course that I had. She was very friendly and eager to help. The driving range was nice, plenty of grass to hit off of which was very nice. I do not know how long the range was but it was fairly long. I was very suprised by the condition of the carts. They all seemed to be in great shape and had GPS in them. I really liked the fact that it would show how far the carts were in front of you. Very nice to have because there are several blind shots from the tee boxes. The course seemed to be in very good shape, the tee boxes were a little wet but it had just rained so that is expected. The grass was soft, especially the greens. Somehow they got the soft greens to play very fast. Unfortunately I found the sand a couple of times but found that the sand was in great shape and made it easy to get out. I was very satisfied with the course and the service. Great value and lots of fun to play. I got to meet the course superindent on #9 and he was very friendly and welcoming. I will be returning to this course often. Keep it up guys, you are doing a great job!

This is a beautiful facility. I played this course for the first time recently with some friends and we got our butts kicked. It is a tough and beautiful landscape. The clubhouse is awesome with the feel of an Aspen ski lodge. With GPS in the carts the play is smooth with little to no holdups on a busy Saturday. I would recommend it to any handicap. For the higher handicappers bring a LOT of golf balls.

I played the course 3 years ago and the greens were terrible. I was told last week that the green have much improved so we decided to give it another try. The course as a whole is spectacular as before how ever there are still a lot of issues for a course that describes it's self as the premier course in Southern Louisiana. Our tee time was 09:10 and we teed off just before that. As soon as we reached our balls in the fairway a one ball appeared on the tee, tee up and started taking practice strokes. As soon as we were out of range he teed off. There was a 4 ball in front of us and we could not go any faster but this guy was up out butts the whole time until he finally jumped in front of us and the four ball on the 7 hole. The greens had all been sanded that morning and were having sand added as the day want on. this made EVERY green horrible to put on. The tractor he had to pull the sanding machine was missing the muffler and it sounded like a drag racer careering around the course. This was very annoying as as you tried to tee off and the driver had no respect for players. Just barreled on through regardless. I was in 3 bunkers on the front 9. The first two I ended up in footprints, the third bunker i was in to the left of the approach to the 9 green I was in a footprint that was in a tractor tire track. The tire track was about 40 foot long running half the length of the bunker. The first 6 holes on the back nine did not have tee box markers on ANY of the tees. The bunker on the par 3 11th had been dug out by some sort of excavator. The were not marked as GUR in any way. On finishing we decided to go to the restaurant for a drink and something to eat. We were seated at a table then were totally ignored. After about 12 minutes of no service what so ever we got up and sat at the bar. We did get served here and the food was good. This could be a wonderful facility and could make a lot of money but I now understand why the club is in financial stress. The course management is atrocious. People do not want to spend good money to play a course in such poor condition. It will be a very long time before I venture there again!

Located on flattish terrain on the edge of the USA's largest area of river swamp, the Atchafalaya at Idlewild, rated 4-1/2 stars, is one of the newest additions to the Audubon Golf Trail. Native flora surrounds much of this excellent Von Hagge layout, with the front-nine loop pushing into a swampy forest of cypress trees.

Excellent Course to Play. Jacob Rubi Hole in One on # 11 Par 3.

3 for 3 on my visit to this golf course so far. A little off the beaten path for someone living downtown New Orleans, but definitely worth the drive! Very challenging course but reasonably priced with free range balls included. The carts all have a gps and scoring monitor. The layout is awesome, with the course holding up after heavy storms, or steady rainfall. Everyone I have taken to Atchafalaya Golf course has said they will return! I plan to as well in the near future.

I would give this course a 10 and play it more often if they would limit the amount of slow fivesomes with no golf etiquette that they allow down there.

Beautiful course We had lunch on the back patio facing the course. Great appetizers. Duck stripes, onion rings, spinach dip and the Dat shrimp. Shrimp and corn bisque was very flavorful. Club clubhouse sandwich was good. The po boys were very good. Prices were not bad for a golf course restaurant A good selection of beers, wines and mixed drinks The bloody Mary was very tasty.

My group of 4 had a very bad experience at Atchafalaya. First, there was no one there to help with the golf bags, but there were 4 staff memebers in the pro shop just standing around. At $66/person, I expect better customer service. I wanted to purchase a bag tag and a shirt from the ProShop and the young lady told me that bag tags weren't for sale, they were there for "decorating the golf shirts only". I said that makes no sense, its a souvenier not decorations. INCOMPETENCE! The ProShop and practice/driving range are very nice. Now to the course.None of the tee markers were set up and the tee boxes hadn't been cut in a few days. Then one of our carts died on the number 2 hole. The attendants arrived but offer no help with transferring our stuff from one cart to the other. Then we get to the #3 green and there are several dead spots near the cup. Note: if your green are in bad shape do not put the pin near the bad areas! Then we get to the first water station and the water had a nasty taste to it. But the cart girl arrived and she was AWESOME (she got a $40 tip just for making sure we had all the we needed). By the time we made it to #8 the other cart started dying and the GPS was malfunctioning. We were 40 behind on our pace of play at this point and very frustrated. Tee markers were still jacked up. It seemed as if no one was there that really cared about the course. It looked like it had been abandoned. No attention to the details and it looked unkept. I have played this course several times and it is a hidden gem, a great layout and extremely playable, but it is not that anymore. Sorry to say it is a D+ course now. It was a A- course. I will not go back until I hear that things have changed.

Round played November 19, 2018 at 1 pm. 12-15 handicap. Cost: I got a deal on golfnow for 25; cart and range balls included. Without special price I think it was 37. Service: comparable to most courses although the front nine was closed for maintenance but that wasn’t communicated when I called to confirm tee time (I drove an hour to play). There is also bag drop/curb service. Did not try food but there is a nice sized restaurant with typical 19yh hole menu, beer on tap and snacks for the the turn. No beverage cart service this particular day. Carts have GPS which is an exceptional service especially not having played here before. 150 Yard is marked but no other distances that I can recall like on par 5’s. Aesthetics: I played in November so obviously things weren’t green...with that in mind, the course was well maintained. Greens were in great condition as well fairways. Bunkers were all raked although several were very thin. Tee boxes also excellent. Range too. Playability: There are 5 sets of tees, I believe, so there are distances for all golfers. There is A LOT of sand in landing spots as well as around the greens but not too overwhelming. There is also a lot of water but none that come seriously into play except for maybe one or two holes. Greens are average size with the more narrower greens’ toughness depending on pin placement. The course is generally short except for par 3’s but even they are pretty straight forward so no real harm there.

Thoroughly enjoyed this course. The GPS in the carts were extremely helpful given there are several blind spot areas. Some of the tee boxes were in terrible shape however the course is really beautiful. This is on the must play list for Louisiana for sure!

As far as public golf courses go, this is possibly the best I have found across the globe (and I come from Scotland). It is much quieter than most due to being away from the big cities, it is right out in the countryside, with no traffic noise at all, it is well laid out, with a lot of water in play. The club house and the very high quality food they serve is outstanding and one of the best places to eat for miles around.

Beautiful golf course! It was difficult, with some very tight fairways requiring some precision shots at times. It plays long. The greens were big with lots of break in some spots. I loved playing here.

Very impressed with this place. Can be an unforgiving course, but it's very nice.
