Played the 9 hole Par 3 course for the first time with my wife. We walked it and had a great time. The greens are really nice but I wish we could tee up on the tee boxes. Will definitely be going back! $8 to play 9 holes and get the experience is great value.

This a really fun course to play. Lots of hazards to play around and over. It moves you around and is still an open course. There is a great mix of all types of holes. It seems like a more moderate players type of course but I played this as my 10th round of my life and shot a 103 so beginners can still have fun on it. The 9-10 turn is at the club house so you have access to all amenities. This is definitely the course I have had the most fun playing on and I have only played it once.

Gary Player has a little Gem here. . . His Thinking on the Layout must of been in South Africa because this Course is exactly like the one he Built There. . . His Greens are alot easier to read than Pete Dyes ?. . Dyes Greens has Swells, Humps , Valley's , and Canyons in them ?. . Players are more like you see the Break and it does it . . . Dye is just a Prick when it comes to Green layouts. . . I like the way Player puts very little Trouble out there off the Tee and he doesnt contest you on your 2nd Shot. . . You can go Low on Players Courses if you put it in the right places unlike Dyes. . . He puts trouble in Hidden places from Tee to Green. . So all that being said Southern Dunes is a Nice Layout with Good Fairways and Greens to where if your Putters Hot you can Definitely go Low

STAY AWAY if you're not spending a lot of money. My son had a small, private wedding at Southern Dunes and we walked into a room full of dirty dishes with food on them from one or two nights before. They had a cheap plastic archway set up over to one side of the room for my son's wedding along with some of the chairs from the prior wedding which were dirty. We had to clean up the room ourselves! Their officiant arrived in blue jeans, a sweatshirt, and tennis shoes. I would have let the Club manager know right then how upset I was but I didn't want to ruin the day, even though it awful to walk into that mess. We luckily got the place cleaned up (mostly) before the bride arrived. I would have given the place no stars but I can't post without giving it at least one star. You've been warned!

It's decent. The course is nice the greens are nice however all the karts are GPS controlled and if you go so much as five feet outside the cart path it stops the cart. Doesn't really give you much of an option as far as driving the cart goes. The insides of the clubhouse pretty basic they do have a putting green but that's the biggest draw. If they pay attention to how other clubs do stuff they will pick up on a few really cool ideas and Implement them. But as for now the club is average at best.

Course generally in good shape and challenging. Good course for the green fees. Multiple tees, lots of water and sand. They have a huge driving range , some with heaters, and putting green (inside and out), instructional golf pro. Also a par 3 course.

We had our wedding here on October 27th, 2018 and it was gorgeous!! The food was delicious, the grounds were clean and everyone was so nice and helpful. We had the perfect wedding and highly recommend this venue!!

Ok,.. Update. Seems they do listen and read reveiws which is great. Course is much better, we now have ball washers, I have seen rangers. We even have food menu and I believe a brand new menu sign on the wall. The only thing is that when you buy a chesee burger you are forced to buy fries. I see the fries cost $4, which means the burger must be $3.75. Why not add the burger as a separate item? I don't need the extra carbs. I cant see paying for fries if I am going to toss them away which means I just paid $7.75 for a burger. Would like to order some food, but no menus, no prices. The Super and staff are at the bar most of the time, so how can they see customers walking in the front door? They can not!!! so most of the time we have to go and search for them. Would be a simple fix and have a door chime installed. Sand traps need work, the pace of play on weekends takes almost 5 plus hours to finish, would be nice to see a ranger getting people moving. Pace has been an issue for years, so guessing the course thanks that 5 plus hours is normal play!! If conditions improve I will be back, right now better off going to other courses that have staff waiting on you, food options listed and priced, and sand traps with sand.

Hadn't played this course in 3 or 4 years. Used to be kept in excellent condition. Not so nowadays. The tee boxes were pathetic - unlevel and weedy. The fringes of the greens were full of crabgrass! Though most of the bunkers had sand in them, they looked like they hadn't been raked in weeks. The rough on the mounds are supposed to be tall thin grass on a links style course, these were almost totally tall thick weeds. You could rarely find your ball if hit onto one of these mounds much less play it out. Definitely won't be going back.

Played there 8.18.19, course was in really bad shape. Sure the summer has been hot and dry but the greens have not been taken care of properly. Its a shame as I love the course.

Southern Dunes Golf Course is located in my neighborhood. It's convenient for the neighborhood golfers and they regularly have dinners on Friday nights in the clubhouse. Its a gorgeous facility. They also have elected to serve as a polling place for a few precincts in our area. Overall, I would recommend this course and restuarant to anyone.

Played here multiple times and at different points throughout the day. The only round I was able to finish/play in under 5 hours was when I had the first tee time. The rangers are always aware, they just don’t care enough to do anything about the slow play. I don’t see myself coming back anytime soon, and it’s a shame because this is a challenging course.

This review is not for the course, but for the GM/Pro Kurt Schier. My son, who’s 11 and has been playing a few years, had an initial lesson with Kurt last fall and things went fine. We scheduled a 2nd lesson with him for the following week, but he texted that morning saying he had to reschedule and asked our availability the next week. Ok, no problem. Gave him the days we were free and never heard back. Texted him back that week and he responded with a day that was 2 weeks out. Ok, no problem again. When we arrived at that lesson, he ran over 15 minutes with another junior lesson, told the kid “Ok, same time next week.” when they were done, and got to us. Lesson went fine again but when we were done he said he’d look at his schedule and let us know when his next availability was. Never heard back. I gave in a few weeks ago and texted him to see if we could get in with him over the winter. He responded “Sure, let me know his availability next week.” Texted him our free time and never heard back again. Followed up 3 times and never got a thing.

Had my baby shower here and would come back for another event space rental in the future. Staff were friendly and easy to work with. They were helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. Booking the space and communicating with Angel was a breeze! Lots of parking and easy to find off 37 for guest.

The course is a goat ranch, on top of having the choice of a couple different balls, and either a small or extra large glove. Bunkers are unplayable. Greens have no grass on them. Tee boxes have weeds and hydraulic oil lines throughout. What a dive.

A really good option for a moderate to difficult course. Has great landscaping, but when I played could have used slightly better maintenance. Likely a product of the severe hot weather and lack of rain. Narrow fairways and fast greens and lots of water. Great, friendly staff and great prices. All in all, despite some minor flaws, would recommend!

This used to be a great golf course...Now it's in horrible condition!! The "fairway" grass looks like it hasn't been mowed for 3 weeks and the greens have so many bare dirt spots it's ridiculous!! They ran out of golf carts during a southport golf meet. The grumpy old man in charge of them informed me that they can charge double and make more money off of league play. He basically said who cares about the kids because we don't make as much money on them!! There are so many WAY nicer courses than this one for way better prices and way better customer service than this crappy excuse of a course! Do you yourself a favor and go elsewhere!!

Hit my playing partner in the head with a 60 yard flop shot so that wasn’t great. Course was a nice layout. Solid conditions for March. Great value. Played in 25 mph winds which made scoring very hard to come by.

Southern Dunes has the nerve to ask for $ 35 on a weekday ! I don't know who the super is but year after year they seem to drip fluid from a mowing machine to ruin a number of greens and tee boxes. I played in April when the course should be at it's best. It looked like late August. Diseased greens, horrible un-even tee boxes and the bunkers ! These aren't bunkers ! I understand the rocky waste areas 200 yards from the greens but, around all greens literally pea gravel, nothing close to sand.As a kicker the crappy GPS shuts your cart down dozens of yards away from shots where the course is obviously far beyond repairing. Can't believe Gary Player would put his name on this dump.

Do not play this course under any circumstances. This course is made to anger you if you don't hit the ball dead straight 100% of the time. This ranges from mounds covering both side of the fair as well as 1 foot grass to make going more than 50 yards impossible. The sand traps are bizarre as some are in great condition and others are just packed down dirt meaning you constantly have to change your shot. Water comes into play on almost every hole and makes coming up short a bad idea but you can never come up long as you will be in the long grass. If you do manage to make it to the green you'll notice their revolutionary variable speed and break greens. Some break some don't and each shot you hit requires a different speed even if they are the same distance from the hole. NEVER PLAY THIS COURSE AS IT IS NOT FUN IN ANY WAY.

This is one of the better courses around us that we can visit. Not only is it nearby and a beautiful course, but it is also very affordable and well maintained. We enjoy playing this course as often we can during any season that we can locate a ball on the ground.

It's a challenging course with a fun layout. The fairways are usually in great shape. The price is decent. That's about all I can say that I like about this place. This course has major pace of play issues. Expect a 5+ hour round with little help from the rangers. A lot of the greens are in really bad shape, which is surprising considering the rest of the course looks fine. I would play here again, but I can't afford to sink an entire Saturday on the course.

The course was in great shape, very friendly staff, very nice clubhouse. Challenging course with plenty of water and sand (some sandtraps were in better shape than others). The only issue for today, granted it's Memorial Day and we played for only $29, was that the round took almost 6 hours. We waited on every single hole in order to tee off with no chance to go around because there were two other groups in front of the foursome ahead of us. We would gladly play this course again if it wasn't that crazy busy.

Tried to book tee time on their website for a GREAT rate for 18 holes. Their website glitched and did not send me a confirmation E-mail. I went back to the website to try to book it again and it was gone. A hold went on my bank account for $0.00 so I took a screen shot of it and went into the pro shop about 20 minutes before the scheduled tee time. The guy said he could do nothing for me and was very rude. I bought, or at least tried to buy, a round online, and then he wanted to charge me over DOUBLE to play a round and acted like it was no big deal. He didn't offer to talk to the manager or at least give me a discount. I was hoping for a great round of golf on my birthday, but instead met with this garbage. I was thinking about having a membership with them starting next year and this was my first experience with them. Not a good one and I am thinking I will go elsewhere for better customer service.
