Matt, at the front desk, was great on the phone and in person. The course was in good shape, just a few wet spots from the recent rain...and those pesky trees got in the way sometimes! The greens were in good shape, I just wish the holes were bigger ;-) ;-) Also, I wish players would fix their ball marks! All-in-all, NOT a spoiled walk in a park(I did ride though)!

This venerable links with views of the Indy skyline is a classic public course. I spent many youthful days traversing its wide open fairways. Enter long time pro Bill Russell with his spade and a sapling or two tucked in his golf bag...along with a club or two. Today, "The Grove" has tree lined fairways that call for straight and true drives on many holes. However, there are still a few holes that are more open. The greens are smallish and offer numerous putting challenges. A golf course doesn't need the expense of sand traps to be challenging. It is definitely worth a trip to the near westside for an enjoyable day on one of Indy's oldest links.

Wet..... Poured down on the 4th hole... Nice course otherwise. Not real long but some of the fairways are pretty tight. Lots of trees.

Would have given 5 stars except we had a 7am tee time, arrived early to warm up, and the gate was closed and locked. Greens were in decent shape. Fairways were cut decent. Tee boxes could be better. $22 to walk 18 on a weekend, great price in my opinion.

This place has been there a long time. It is a very nice golf course. It has trees for shade on hot Sunny days. I like it and will be back for 18 holes soon.

Value and location are the strong points of this course. I've played here several times in both the summer of 2016 and 2017. The greens are usually above standard shape for a city course and run a little faster than most city courses. I prefer South Grove over Coffin any day of the week, despite Coffin's layout being better. Now for the negatives: pace of play is not enforced and often very slow on weekends. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, however there is one guy that seems to be a jerk. I've witness him yell at several patrons (never myself), and I've heard stories from buddies about him either being snarky or rude. Overall, I will continue to play here because of its convenient location to downtown and the reasonable rates, it's certainly no gem, but is a viable option.

Fun well kept course for a great price. The only real downside are the many trees. Stay in the fairway better than I did and you won't have to worry about them too much.

Inexpensive, challenging little muni. Smart play on most holes is to hit iron off the tee to avoid spraying into the trees. Greens are in wonderful shape and hold very well. Fairways are serviceable for a municipal course. Find a "hot deal" on GolfNow and play 18 for $20 w/ cart. Can't beat it for the money.
