REVIEWS OF Cog Hill Golf & Country Club IN Illinois

Steven Razz

Place is absolutely beautiful. I’ve placed courses 1,2, and 4. Dubs was definitely a challenge for me as I don’t play very often, although it was a great time just to be with people I love playing golf in a beautiful course. 10/10 would go back!

Jonathan Deering

Cog Hill is a great public golf course complex. A country club for all. The Jemsek family, especially Frank, make this place feel like a home away from home

Aaron Kimball

Stroking balls

Mark Murphy

Terrific bartenders. Positive wedding experience.

Vanessa Nichols

With all of the rain, the course played okay.

Tom B

Very nice course. Pretty easy to get lost in if you're not familiar with it. Great staff.

Ron Zagorski

Outstanding course. But you have to pay the price. $155 but worth it to do at least once.

Adam Barnes

A great golf course with 4 full 18 courses that will challenge any level of golfer from scratch to bogey handicaps. Go for Dubs Dread if you dare, but I'd be sure to bring an extra sleeve of balls or two...

Jim Lyons

We moved our golf league hear after many years at two other courses. The staff are unbelievable. From the rangers to staff in the clubhouse . They can't do enough to make it a great day.

John L

We had my Dad's 80th birthday party there this year. The facilities, staff and food was exceptional. Cog Hill made this a great experience for my Dad and family. I would recommend this venue to have a special event.

Lynne Parro

Pretty setting, friendly staff , service was excellent (Catherine was a pleasure to interact with, and very efficient!), food was delicious, and they even accomodated gluten free needs with no problem!

Tom Guilfoyle

Excellent golf out experience as always.

BigErn 79

Great golf courses. Home to Dubs Dread a former PGA stop. Clubhouse is dated but well worth playing a round if in the area

Suzanne Butler

The internationally acclaimed Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, located in the southwestern "hinterland" of Chicago, is home to four championship golf courses. Most famous of all is the No.4 (Dubsdread) course, which has hosted the highest level of tournaments. Since opening in 1964, "Dubsdread" has been rated among the Top 100 golf courses in the USA, and has hosted numerous USGA and PGA Tour events.

Alfonzo Butler,Jr

Best mid west course near Chicago.

Ada Gonzalez Perez

Everyone here was friendly outgoing and always smiling. Here for the Illinois association golf tournament.

Played Dubs mid May. I realize the weather has been challenging with rain and cold, so this 1 star takes all that into account...This review essentially is about expectations of paying $150... The good : The staff is very nice, the gentleman who grabbed our bags at the parking lot was very helpful and nice, the pro shop staff are very nice, the food staff are very nice. The layout and bunkers are really a gem. Obvious why they used to play a tour stop here. For how much rain they'd had it wasn't awful. The bad : For $150....The greens had been verti-cut, shaggy and SLOWWWWW pretty bad. The rough is incredibly high with a lot of bad spots - again I think because of the wetness they had not been able to consistently cut correctly. A lot of mud spots - which again I expect for mid may and how much rain they've had, but if I'm paying $150, I'm expecting better. The club house, bar, restaurant, range are in desperate need of an upgrade/update. its shame because its just such a great track.

Eddie Lieser

Review for Dubsdread/overall experience: The course was in fantastic shape, and is one of the best challenging courses in the area. I would give the course 4.5 stars. I am giving the overall experience 2 stars though. We ordered 4 caddies, but got two, then we were told we had to ride when we wanted to walk on a cart path only day. Ended up with 2 caddies that were very nice, but very unexperienced, and practically did nothing for us during the round. Weren't grabbing the pins, weren't raking bunkers, had to be asked to do most things. No significant golf knowledge. Caddies aside, for the caliber of the course, you would expect better; the pro shop staff was confused and didnt have answers to our questions, the carts were old, and not many solutions were offered to our issues. When paying 155 to play a round of golf, I expect better.

A Stoj

I absolutely love Cog Hill. It is my go to. The best gentleman's playground in the Chicago Land, four courses and an awesome driving range. Two things. 1) It needs to be brought up to date. 2) My uncle had a Scotty Cameron stolen out of his bag while we were hitting balls at the range before playing Dubsdread. We asked the guys in the Pro Shop and they said, "oh, that's happened a few times now. One guy had his whole bag stolen." Like, seriously. You don't have cameras? Which brings me back to 1) Needs to be brought up to date.

Michael Louise

Played #4 better bring your best sand game greens were perfect

Calvin Prest

Wonderful facility cloaked in so many different parts of golf history as it is/was the home of the Western Golf Association. Course 2 is tournament track but 4 is every bit as exciting. 1/3 are also great tests of shot making and creativity. The 19th hole on course 4 allows golfers a special view of the 18th on course 2, it’s the famous walk Tiger woods made in 1997 with thousands of patrons on his way to winning the 1997 Western Open. Course 1 is fun and different variety of holes. With multiple tees and greens for some holes a new challenge usually awaits.

Roxie Kurt

Beautiful venue for a wedding. Food was excellent.

Allen Denormandie

Nice atmoshere, friendly swrvice, nice staff interaction! Good food/ portions!

Thomas Michaels

Jim Van Kampen

Courses are always in great shape. Staff is super friendly!

Brian Fischer

Course 2 is best value. Easy park.

Robert Parks

Great time. Didn't give it 5 stars because no beverage cart during twilight.

yuval Levin

Highly recommended

Bernard McDevitt

Family golf!

Kevin Gelso

Great course! Upkeep a little light this early in the season for the price.

chris jackson

The number 2 course I like to play and the driving range is a really good range to get your game in shape in the summertime it's all grass

bob schuld

Lessons this morning from Carol Rhoades. Fantastic! identified root cause of my bad chipping and got me on the road to recovery. Really knows her stuff and great at communicating the "fix". Can't wait to try it in a game. Thank you Carol!!!

Glenn Whalen

Played number 2 on a Thursday 8/9/18 afternoon paid 74 dollars. Would have expected better conditions paying 74 dollars. Fairways were in horrible condition no sand to fill divets. It was 87 degrees didn’t see a cart girl once. Girl at halfway house said outing on another course. She was very nice but still unacceptable. Way overpriced as they are still living off of Dubs being a PGA stop many years ago.

Valon Dervishi

Course is over priced just because of dubs

bdkrma911

Even the cheaper courses here are better than 7 out of 10 local courses. You must play dubsdread at least once in your life if you’re a serious golfer.

Stephen Pons

This is probably the best hill in the state of Illinois. There are many hills in Illinois but this one is pretty great. The staff here is ok except for the wonderful lady who helped me eat appetizers at the wedding, she's amazing.

Evangelina Tayahua

Had a wonderful time the service was just great food was great and I will recommend this beautiful place.

Alex Mereish

good course #2

Tim Cairns

Perfect day temperature and weather wise. Course dry and firm. Very good condition all around. Greens nice but not fast, running 10'ish. Front nine really reminded me of Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, PA. Back nine had a different feel but still very nice layout. Par 3's were, 'BIG' is the word, long and bunkered well. From the first tee you could tell you were on a championship course. Shot 41-37 from blue markers, but hit the ball better on the front nine. Couple 3 putts, couple fairway bunkers, couple bad club decisions and you're 4 or 5 over. A great day, will remember for a long time.

Paul Garcia

Great track and challenging true rolling greens.

jaime hernandez

Beautiful golf course.

Jesse P

4 courses to fit every skill level. Nice range.

Sharon Tudryn

I recently visited for a baby shower. The food was wonderful and the staff were very friendly. The restroom was upstairs which was difficult to get to for some of us that have difficulty with stairs.

Nick Domenico

Dubsdread

Daniel Heckle

Great staff and beautiful course. If you don't like course 1, try one of the other 3 courses.

Steve Jones

We have always enjoyed Doughnuts and Doubles outings. I did not see it listed on this years calendar and I hope it has not been discontinued. The outings have always been well organized. Thanks in advance for providing this well appreciated event for seniors.

Michael Hein

Horribly backed up, late start then took 3 1/2 hours to play 11 holes. Not a ranger in sight. Jumped ahead and found multiple vacant holes on the back 9. That being said, the course is in good shape, I don't have almost 6 hours to play a round of golf.

Keith W

Great golfing facility with four 18 hole courses and a practice range. This course is home to the world famous Dubsdread golf course. The course that used to host the PGA Western Open.

Diontre Earl

This is a beautiful golf course! It is also very challenging. There are bunkers everywhere on this course both in front of the green and off the fairways. If you miss a green it’s almost certain you’ll end up in a bunker. Greens and two boxes were very well-maintained. The greens offer a lot of undulation making it challenging for the average amateur golfer. It would be beneficial for amateurs to make sure they are using the correct set of tees on this course.

rick bullis

I've had the pleasure of attending a wedding banquet ,very quaint and exceptional food !

Leslie Signa

Beautiful wedding venue! Service was outstanding.

Steve Orbeck

Old man Jemsek set this up for major crowds. No breaks for seniors...

Andrew Sardina

Played an amateur tournament on #4 Dubsdread yesterday and it was the hardest challenge! Enjoyable though. My advice: really spend some time on the practice putting green to get a better feel for the speed and get your bunker game ready. These are the hardest greens I've ever played on. You really get punished if you don't have a good feel for the speed. Lots of undulations you don't see until your ball starts rolling then BAM!...your ball curves right before it reaches the hole. Not for beginners.

Allison Lindrum

Basic country club

Derek Pyrzanowski

Course is in great condition. Enjoyed round of family golf with my kids.

Keith Goss

Great place to have a wedding at

Julie Markert

The food was great. Every single item that we tried on the menu was wonderful. The staff was incredibly courteous and very helpful and attentive. Fantastic venue

Caitlin Bennett

Wonderful Easter Brunch! Service and food were: excellent. The golf course looked beautiful, hope to try it some time.

David Harrington

Greens suck

Claudine Tijerina

Staff is very polite and respectful. Food is delicious and fairly priced.

Kevin Warren

Awesome course, just enough challenges and openness for all skill levels. Great caddy, his help was spot on.

Josh Oary

Great golf club. Very reasonable prices

Dominic Wiker

1st time playing. Ravines course interesting. Conditions very good. Greens fast and fair. Pace of play very slow-5 hr rd. Never saw a ranger all day long. Hard to justify given greens fees of $75.

Bill Craig

Great classic country club. Good food in the main dining area, with impeccable service.

Anthony Schlesser

A group of us guys played the courses 2 day. It is in great shape however the sand traps needed tending to some were hardpan and others were too soft which made it inconsistency playing out of them it made the game tough however played well I wish I could have played better. If you have never played the course I recommended at least once to try and play it they do have reasonable rates for Twilight rates.

GodWentPunk1 .

Cog Hill is the best of the best. Dubsdred is very fun, challenging and frustrating. Nice driving range.. lastly, the golf instructors associated with CH are top notch. We use Carol for our kids and she is AMAZING.

Neal Renna

You just aren’t going to find a quality experience for a better price. We weren’t going to look at Cog Hill because we figured the name would come with a high price tag. The clubhouse was the exact look we wanted and the food was fantastic (Get the sausage). You can spend 20k on a wedding if you want too, but you can get that same wedding at cog hill for half that. Debbie was our waitress at the head table and she was simply fantastic.

Ingrid L

Cutt the grass!

John Zimmer

Excellent accommodations and friendly helpful staff.

Walter Lis

Cog Hill is a must see for any golf fanatic. All four courses are usually in a great shape and picturesque, especially courses #2 and #4. The greens fees are reasonable, except for #4.

John Ranz

Slow rounds on Ravines

Shep Ellis

Beautiful maintained challenging course!

Kent Gansel

EXCELLENT COURSE!!

Gail Susan

We were there for a wedding shower brunch, the food was very good, they had an omelette table and a waffle table along with regular breakfast fare. It is a beautiful clubhouse and fantastic service. I would not hesitate to have a affair there or just go for a meal after golf.

John Kelty

Greens are better. Airation has been a problem in last few seasons. Approach too aggressive. The greens were unplayable for 6-8 weeks this year?

Jack Riordan

Great day to hit a bucket of balls. Practice range in great condition.

Oscar Clay

Really not a golfer. But this is a nice place!. Was there for Company annual golfing which has been held here for 15 years.

Leokadia Carter

The staff was extremely helpful very accommodating. The only bad thing I could say about that was the handicapped toilet is just too low for people with special needs they need to raise it.

Michael Zurales

Course was pretty beat up but I only paid 5$ so no complaints

Ryan Trausch

Great course. I would play course 3 again. Beautiful course and a bit challenging but fun.

Jeff Smith

Love this place. They treat you like royalty!

Rich Szilagyi

Still waiting on Randy to contact me from 05/19/18 to schedule lessons after taking $50. for an 'evaluation'. His voice mail is always full and the clubhouse says is he always on the course and good luck in him returning your phone call

Robert Phelan

Its expensive to play and 1 and 3 are not much better than other local courses that are cheaper. Really nice clubhouse though.

Michael Watkins

It wasn't a good day for golf it was raining and cold

Marty Flynn

Great course, great staff, the rough is rough, but had a great time. Thanks again, Marty

Anthony Valenza

Can't go wrong here!!

Jim Clark

Great condition, tough course, very friendly staff!

barbara harrington

What a great party. . .ten stars to Dan, Tom and their staff! Our family recently held my husband’s 60th surprise birthday party at Cog Hill following his Friday golf league. Discreetly working with them could not have been easier, as the guest list grew so did the accommodations. The food received rave reviews, the recommendations for our crowd were spot on. We felt the entire Cog Hill staff was totally involved that evening, were so kind to our guests and absolutely committed to making us happy. A great memory we will never forget.

Bill Hoole II

4 great courses, food is great (breakfast/lunch), PGA tour quality practice facility. Open year round this is the premier place to bring a foursome for a memorable round of golf. Memberships on all 4 courses, unlimited cart, unlimited range and locker privileges $4900 per year. Best deal in Chicago. Staff is very friendly, owners are usually around to shake hands and make you feel welcome.

Michael Srncik

Ravines... Great shape. Challenging

Mark Miller

Great experience as always, and having Frank Jemsek personally greet us and thank us for coming is so nice

Maxwell Schaefer

I was at the country club for a friends wedding. I'd have to say the venue was gorgeous, the reception hall is breathtaking! My only gripe is that the bartender did not tell us until after we got our drink that it was not open bar yet. It didn't change my mind but I'd like to be told before I order.

Esteven Gonzalez

I don't golf but my kids do. This place was great for them and the staff was really friendly and helpful. The young lady at the golf store was helpful and respectful. I will be coming more often.

Kristopher Wind

Great time, great amenities, I can forgive the tough rough and greens because of all the rain and probably no chance to really mow and roll and mow, but next month I look forward to Dubs and Ravines extravaganza

Richie Guzior Photography

Played a nice Ravines coarse. Very nice!!!

Terence Nesbit

Wonderful golf course. Especially Course #2 Ravines. Have yet to play #4 Dubsdread.

R Nolan

Excellent food and service. Beautiful grounds and facility

Chris Digweed

I highly recommend Cog Hill for an event space. The service and food were fabulous for our daughter's wedding. The space is truly beautiful -- especially this time of year. Many thanks to Jenny, our coordinator who really helped pull everything together so wonderfully!

Joe Spevacek

Reasonably priced golf with a country club atmosphere.

stacy clark

Great golf course. All 4 courses are maintained to highest level and staff is friendly and helpful! Fantastic overall experience!!

Maggie Krawczyk

Awesome venue and beautiful views! This was an awesome place to see my sister get married at

Bob Koschoreck

Was at a Baby Shower. They had breakfast item very good food. But had to either go upstair or down stairs to use restrooms thought they shoul have one on first floor that was odd

Lisa Kokot

Went for a wedding. The food was really good. The place was pretty. Only complaint was the bathrooms being on a different floor. Too many trips up and down stairs over the 7 hours we were there.

Adam Rasmussen

I love this golf course. The rates are very affordable in my opinion (with the exception of Dubbs Dread). The staff is very nice and the driving range is top notch.

Myrmidon Rex

The course was well maintained, and our group had a great time.

Alese Garstick

Had a wedding in the main hall. Amazing, beautiful, intricate wood work with high ceilings.

Alan Sefcik

Some bad patches off the fairway, but otherwise best conditions I've played all year.

NovaG

Was here for a golf outing. Very organized and the staff was educated and polite. Literally everyone wanted to help us and kept checking on us at our hole. My only complaint is the bad walkways. They definitely need some upgrades.

MAGDALENE KARECKI

Cog Hill was very ordinary. The entree was chicken breast that was not tasty. The pasta was cold and overcooked. The appetizers were very good. I wouldn't choose it for an event venue.

pooɥǝɥʇuıoʇɐʇoԀ

Very nice course and lessons.

Richard Cates

Cog Hill is a family-owned Country Club with 4 golf courses, a fantastic golf practice facility, which includes a large driving range where you can hit off either mats or natural grass, and several practice putting greens. The facility also has a very fine restaurant and bar located in the main Clubhouse along with a smaller Lunch Counter type Eatery where you can grab a quick bite before you tee off or after your round. Each of the four Golf Courses also has it's own Snack Shack located between the 9th green and the 10th tee where the golfer can re-energize before continuing play. Golf carts are available and recommended since the area is quite hilly. Cog Hill also has a number of golf stores which sell everything the modern golfer needs such as equipment ( clubs, balls, tees, gloves, etc..) Golf Apparel, golf shoes, golf umbrellas, yardage laser rangefinders to yardage guides, instruction books, DVDs and just about anything else the average golfer could need or want. The entire facility is open to the public 365 days a year( with the exception of some special events during which some areas and Facilities would be closed to the General Public ). The golf practice facilities open at Daybreak on the weekend , 6:30 a.m. on the weekdays, and close at dusk everyday. Reservations for tee times are recommended especially for the weekend. You may think,by this review, that I am an employee at Cog Hill and I assure you that I am not,( although I was a marshall at several Western Open tournaments in the early 1990s), I started golfing in the early 1970s at Cog Hill, I'm now in my early sixties, still golf, and still use the facilities at Cog Hill and hopefully will for many years to come. Golf is a great game at any age and Cog Hill is a great place to practice and play.

Jawad Shahid

Nice Place for golf players

Jo Catlin Valenciano

What a beautiful beautiful Golf Course. Chris flick I'm going to miss you you're like family to me. You really beautiful tight ship all of your people have great personalities

Armil Biag

Nice and easy to play. Wide open. Lost a couple of balls in the rough, though. No pressure.

Stephen Siefferman

Cog #1 great course

Bill Rice

Make sure you go to the bar and meet Gina. Great bartender.

Jeff Buckley

Fun, challenging time, wow, week worth the trip

Nick McGarel

Beautiful facility with multiple courses. Maintained at pro-level standards and staffed by a friendly, helpful, and engaging crew of people.

robert theiss

A course for every level of play

Peter Taylor

The course Marshalls were very rude. Told us twice to pick up the pace, when we weren't holding anyone up, and we weren't waiting on anyone. We played 18 in 4 hours. The really ruined our round, didn't enjoy it as much. Drive 400 miles and paid $70 for a rushed round. Will not be going back there again. Fairways were great, greens had room for improvement, quality pretty good. The old retired farts for Marshalls need to go.

Drew Muilenburg

Very dissatisfied with the conditions of the ravines course. Greens were in poor condition and was a really slow round. Will not return.

Heidi DKF

Small but beautiful. Very nice.

Chris Hill

Love this club! Dubs was under construction when we played. They are changing thr sand over to white crushed sand. Still was a great outing

Mike Koch

1 and 3 are blah 2 is okay and 4 is let’s just say have fun. You get punished for a bad shot just the way it should be great track if you get a chance to play once take it !!

Jaime Hernandez

Beautiful Courses. Great banquet facilities.

Bruce Jewer

Incredible facility and staff. I will definitely return and recommend this course.

Stephen Patterson

Great covered driving range, with heated stalls on the west side.

Kumar Changavar

High end golf course. Extremely well maintained. Excellent off course facilities as well. Not a walk friendly course because you dont come back where you started. Recommend taking the cart at all times.

Joe Scroggins

Golfed here on 10/08/16 paid 135 dollars to play Dubs. I enjoy spending a little extra to play courses like this about once a month. This was my first experience and Cog Hill and it will also be my last. Upon pulling in and getting my clubs out of the car there was no one at the bag drop, so i walked my clubs into the club house and had to place them on the golf cart myself. While in the clubhouse not only was I told it was cart path only but they had also just aerated the greens the week before (which i was not told about when i booked the tee time over the phone). Then we go to the driving range to hit range balls and it was more mud than grass. I am not sure if they are replanting or what but it was not in good shape. So i paid full price to play a course that you literally couldn't putt on because it was so bumpy from aeration, we had to play auto 2 putt becasue trying to make a 3 footer was even impossible. As for the course it was very wet which is a little understandable because we have had a lot of rain the last few weeks. However, I played Seven Bridges the day before and it was no where near was wet as Cog. I think Seven Bridges or Ruffled Feathers is just as nice for less than half the price. If you want to play just because they had tournaments there over 5 years ago please save your money.

John Saccomanno

The very best public golf course facility in Chicagoland with four 18 hole courses beautifully maintained and excellent practice areas.

J Fergle

Awesome golf course. Played all 4 over the years and enjoyed every minute. Great place for events and they have fantastic food

Robert Devine

Well kept - Premier course for the avid golfer. More forgiving courses for the average player. Good service / amenities and staff.

Kevin Finlon

Their golf carts have seen better days, but overall it was very pleasant day. I played fairly well although I couldn't make a putt. I will be back. We played no. 3

James K

A challenging course and an awesome clubhouse!

carrie guilfoil

I have lunch here quite often, the service is excellent! The food is always fresh and tasty, your best bet is always the special! If you have any leftovers they take care in wrapping them up for you and even include directions on reheating!
