Small challenges golf court, be careful when you pass the street

I love what the folks at Canal Shores are doing with this little neighborhood gem. Compared to when I played this course about 10 years ago, this is like a new course. Greens and fairways were in great condition and it is a lot of fun to be right in the Evanston and Wilmette neighborhood while playing. This really feels like the future of golf - it is affordable, fun for many levels, and inclusive. Well done - can't wait to play again!

What a cool little track pitched on the banks of the north shore canal. 18 legit holes (most par 3) a golfer must traverse the many different yardage and green variations. A must visit for anyone who likes golf or exciting experiences not found anywhere else!

Outstanding Executive-type golf course without any pretenses. Course winds through residential areas and along the banks of the historic North Shore Sanitary District Canal near the Wilmette locks. You don't need to hit the ball far to enjoy this course. But you better either hit it straight or bring a lot of golf balls!

As I golf course I can’t really say, but it is a nice place to walk dogs and bird watch. Make sure to keep dogs off the course when people are playing and clean up!

Very unique public course that plays along the North Shore Channel through Evanston and Wilmette. Service here in the club house was friendly and they looked to be accommodating a large party when we arrived. If you look online in advance some tee times go on sale. Our green fees were $10 (minus cart). Which is extremely cost efficient The course is a relatively long considering for the most part it's par 3 course. The holes themselves are lined with trees and some are narrow with nearby neighborhoods within striking range. The river comes into play on a handful of holes here as well. I would advise buying a motorized cart here as in addition to being a lengthy course, you also have to drive across and through streets to get to succeeding holes. I felt the distance to most of the Greens was extremely deceptive here. It looked further away and played closer than it looked. We lost a lot of balls. The Greens I thought were relatively small for some of the holes but they played extremely fast. Aim for the fairway in front and watch it roll. While the Greens played fast, some were also really beat up too. All in all. It's a good course and we had a good time. I could certainly see us coming back at a future date.

Nice but tough course nestled in the middle of small local neighborhoods and the near by Northwestern campus. It is a public course with a small pro-shop but a wonderful American Legion post above that handles the drinks and food. They just recently opened a great patio next to the shop. It is fun and hard to play the course but it is such a great landscape.

The greens and cart fees are very reasonable as is the annual membership fees. It's an urban municipal course, the CTA Purple line station at Central Street, Evanston is very convenient. It is what it is, a municipal course where kids and retired folks come to learn and to practice, and yes, joggers and walkers cross your path regularly, but it can also be challenging at times for the experienced golfer and there are some truly scenic holes that you never tire of. I recommend it.

The beginning of a new golfing season comes with a new set of changes. Thankfully, I've had the pleasure of watching the course prosper in more ways than one. I've been golfing at this course for years, and I can honestly say that the infrastructure never looked more attractive and pleasing to the eye. The staff in every department are attentive to the needs of golfers and community members alike. Please keep up the great work because people are starting to take notice of the new benchmark that is Canal Shores.

If you're used to really nice courses, you won't like it. If you're used to decent courses, you probably won't like it. If you like community-run courses that provide a great atmosphere and place to relax for those who live around the area, you'll love it. If you like seeing L trains and the Ba'Hai Temple, you'll love it. If you like relaxing hours with a couple of friends who are just as bad hacks as you, you'll love it. Enjoy it while it's there. It's a gem.

Ron G. is hands-down the best golf instructor I've ever had. I've taken private lessons when I've lived in DC, Pittsburgh and Scottsdale. In Scottsdale, I took lessons at some of the best courses. Right away, Ron had me hitting better than I ever have before. He also makes it a lot of fun. I really can't recommend him enough.

Expensive for what it is. A par 4 course with people coming home from work walking across the fairway. People walking their dogs all around the course. And fairways with grass so tall you can (and I have) lose your ball in the middle of it. If it goes in the rough just drop another ball because you won't find it. So things change. I played it last summer and they had cut fairways and the greens were in great shape. I thoroughly enjoyed my round. Changed from a two star to a four.

All of the grass from tee box through the fairways is standard lawn grass.. maybe 2 of the wholes you can bring out the driver out of the few par 4s they even have. Half of the greens were even poorly maintained. I wouldn’t really recommend this course unless you are a beginner.
