Challenging course but it needs some love. Pretty much all of the greens are in bad shape with several patches of dead grass which made putting a headache with the ball jumping around. Fairways were in good shape as were most of the tees (aside from a few). Just seemed a little pricey for the shape of the greens. Also, hole 9 doesn't end anywhere close to the pro shop so make sure you fill your cooler up beforehand.

A gem of a Donald Ross golf course! I played the course in March of 2014 ,and loved the course setup. Granted,a lot of construction is going on,as they are re-working the course from 27 holes to 18 holes. I have played many Ross designed courses (Myopia in Mass. is my favorite) and I am sure when the work is completed,this will be a wonderful place to play. If you expect a pristine,manicured,country club course, Bacon Park is not for you. A great experience !!

I’ve been playing this golf course for a couple years now and have gotten to know quite a few of the employees at this establishment who are great people. Come to find out today that they are pushing the new Superintendent Rob Whitnie out the door for no reason besides putting OC Welch in his place and ignoring his opinions on the golf course. OC Welch has no idea what he is about to lose Rob Whitnie has made the golf course look a lot better in the past 8 months. And to get rid of him disgusts me and I will not be taking my business there and the guys I bring with me will not be attending this golf course ever again. Mr Welch you are a terrible business an and even worse employer. If anyone should be getting fired it’s you Mr Welch and the old man behind the window that sleeps and cusses people all hours of the day.

I visited this course on vacation, only able to play the legends course (9 holes) due to time constraints. It was a great round d nonetheless, they've done great rebuilding after the hurricane and I enjoyed each hole. Can be a bit confusing for the first 3 holes, but a member there was very nice when I asked for help. I would love to come play the full 18 here.

OC Welsh took on an almost impossible project to reconstruct the public Bacon Park Golf Course and turn it back into its original Donald Ross design. Although it is still a work in progress, this course deserves every bit of praise out there. All previous negative posts were from when the City of Savannah was managing the course. Since OC took over, he spent lots of money to make a class A course. give it a try, you will be very pleased.

this Fred guy obviously is a huge continuous problem at this establishment. Me my wife and two companions played here for our first time yesterday and could not believe how rude he is. The racist comment towards a customer blew my mind. The course definitely needs a little work not in terrible condition. I hope and pray that Mr Welch is reading the reviews about this establishment and fixes the problem soon because racism laziness and no manners in a place like bacon park will destroy not only your business but your name also. Best wish to you Mr Welch but I will not attend this place ever again we are not fans of racism.

Great course, couldn’t look better coming out of winter. Maintenance staff very friendly and helpful. Pro shop personnel was very rude. Older gentleman would not get off his computer and help at the counter. Other than that it would have been 5 star!!!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but considering how bad Bacon Park Golf course was before O.C. took over, I have nothing but compliments for the work that has been done. Playing golf there has become a joy again. Big greens, reworked traps and open fairways. Fantastic! Nothing but praise for the effort being put in. I've played this course since I was 16 years old and this is the best condition I think it has ever been. Past management had many obstacles to overcome and did a good job most of the time, but with the resources that Mr. Welch has at his disposal it is just amazing what can be done if you want it bad enough. Thanks O.C. from the bottom of my heart. It is a pleasure to be playing at the( Patch) again.

OSHA needs to inspect this place. So many health violations and hazards. 2 bridges that are barley standing and no warnings to where the ditches are I Nearly ran my cart into one. The man behind the counter making sandwiches and hot dogs with no gloves on scratching his nose. The health department and OSHA will be getting a call.

First time at this golf course yesterday. Golf course 5 stars. Service 1 star. I watched an employee who was sweating his balls off get ignored by Fred. I asked to find out who the man was that was so rude to a hard working man to post this review. It is sickening to see people treated that way. I’d only go back to avoid that kind of person. Golf course is open greens roll perfect. From a successful point of view I’ve always been told treat your janitor exactly how you would treat a CEO and Fred did not won’t be going back because of him. Sorry O.C Welch whoever you are. Out with the old in with the new. Ps my close buddy already caught that old man Fred sleeping while people were waiting in line. I have no idea why I even came.

You have to see it to believe it. A great layout in really good shape. Best location in Savannah. The front nine is brand new and the back nine is in great shape, too! A lot of golfers learned to play on this course. We sure are glad to see it back!

If you are on vacation and want a good golf course DO NOT go to bacon park. This is one of the worst courses I've seen. I turned around after 2 holes and got my refund GO to hunter golf club...it is a solid course and good prices! Enjoy the Georgia sun!

I've always loved playing at Bacon Park, but now that they've renovated it, it really is one of the best deals on golf in the area. When the course was in it's worst shape a few years ago, me and my buddies would joke about what it would be like to win the lottery and completely overhaul the course. They basically did exactly what we always talked about, minus the lottery ticket. Super friendly staff and just an all around cool vibe at the course. One of my favorite places to play.

I have played this course many times over the past 12 years when it was nothing but a patch of dirt. They have done a great job of bringing this municipal course back to life. More enjoyable for the amateurs, but from the tips offers a challange for the lower handicaps. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the greens and fairways need to fill in a little bit more. I thouroughly enjoyed my round and the new setup of the course.

This was very, very disappointing to me. I was excited to hear a newly updated Donald Ross was under 40 dollars during the week. What I saw when I got there was a truely disappointing. The condition of the course, marking of the course and value of the round was VERY underwhelming. The only reason I gave it two stars is that kept the course layout close to what Donald Ross had (maybe due to laziness). The hazards and rough haven't been addressed in weeks even months. They have a "putting green" that looks underrepair as well

The course is in terrible shape, and it's poorly marked. You can't tell where hole 1, 8, or even 9. They have the holes scattered all over the creation to the point where guys are finishing a hole they have to drive back down the same fairway you are about to tee off. Don't waste 38 bucks on this course. To claim Donald Ross on your website is a joke. Trust me he would turnover in his grave.

Mr Welch should be embarrassed that his name is attached to that place. So much potential, but thoroughly disappointing! For great golf in the Savannah area, crosswinds is the premiere choice!

I watched a Mexican guy who I thing works here just ride around for hours doing nothing. With the state of this place everyone should be working. Tee boxes was like hitting a ball out of the rough they were so high. Greens too slow and bumpy.

I used to love this course until they cut down most of the trees. Considering each 9-hole course is named after trees, whoever made that decision is a fool. The staff also needs to learn how to be polite and less greedy. They refused to issue a rain check because they claimed people were still out playing in torrential rain and thunder/lightning. Give me a break.

Beautiful golf course also ponds are nice and full of fish. I took my son he enjoyed the ponds while I played golf. Only reason for 4 stars is the old man behind the counter was very rude and paid me no attention while I waited to pay for my round. He also yelled across a group of people and my son at a maintenance crew member for no reason. Have a little more respect for your surroundings is all I’m saying.

Greens are in terrible shape. Too slow. No fairways. Dry and hard fairways. I got a headache from riding on the cart path that they call cart paths. Weeds everywhere. Driving range tee box was rough length. You could tell they don’t move the driving range tees. My cart was dirty. The employees in the clubhouse were rude especially the old man everyone is complaining about. The worst part is this is the third golf course I played at that O.C Welch owns and it has gone down hill just like Black Creek and Wilmington island. He needs to stick to the car business he obviously does not have the budget in his pocket to take care of golf courses.

The first thing you see is a camper that someone is living in. Walked the grounds during the City Am and noticed many weeds, some of the sand traps were not raked and the course bathroom was disgusting. No shirts or clothes of any kind. The water coolers on the course were not clean. Terrible. The City needs to step up and fix things. Management company is not doing anything but steal from the citizens of Savannah

It may be cheap but unfortunately it is by far the worst golf course I have ever played. Not only the course, but the driving range is horrible. Even the driving range balls appear old, hard, and dead feeling. The little area designated for bunker practice looks more like a litter box. If you use a golf cart, hope you do not have a bad back since the paths (unpaved) makes you feel like you are riding a roller coaster and when I played it was full of potholes. You may even get lost on the course because the markings do not exit. Nice little club house and snack bar, but the course is just no good.

This is the first course I've played on the east coast. It was open, playable and reasonably priced. Could have been a bit more manicured, but I don't know what the city of Savannah has for a budget. You can show up as a single and have better time than ya ever did at work.

Peaceful, clean, great environment. A place where you can do stuff by yourself, family, & friends. There are parks, big fields so you can do what you want like sports or exercise. There is tennis and basketball courts. There are also soccer, football, and lacrosse fields. There is restrooms and water fountains. There is a pond that has a fountain and fish if you want to fish. There is a dog park for your dogs to enjoy their time there as well. Ther is also a baseball stadium for Savannah Bananas. It's a great place to go for anything.

Personally...I could tell you very little about the game of golf. What I can tell you is that I know how being passionate about something is very rewarding! No matter how big or small the task....No matter if your rich or poor...the before and after is the reward!! Great place for amateurs like myself. Always spots open on the driving range and relatively cheap for range balls and 9 holes in the afternoon. Would recommend for beginners or casual players

The 'new"' Donald Ross course is great. It has some aging to be really excellent but changes have really improved the course. The greens, which were slow and mostly flat, are now VERY challenging and give the course real character. Having played several Ross courses i think this revision stands up to the vision. It is still flat and the senior/women's tees for the par fours need to be set to the side (It will speed play) and they need to vary around an average of about 250 yards. Number 7 which plays as a par 4 should be a par 5. Number 10 could be shortened slightly to make it a robust par 4. As a very new course it is in very good shape and can only get better for the next 3-4 years. Mr. Welch deserves high praise for taking on this challenge!

This course has the opportunity to be absolutely wonderful. This is a fun Donald Ross layout that you would never get sick of. However the issue is that the conditions are absolutely brutal. Fairways are burned out and not much difference between fairways and rough. Most greens have a disease and are very difficult to putt on. I read about this guy who was restoring it and making it a nice place but it needs better management IMO. I don’t see what could have been done. This place could be an absolute gem if it was put in the right hands. I am glad we came out and supported it but hope the city finds a suitable caretaker to bring it back.

Layout of this place makes no sense at all. No restrooms until the 15th hole. 9th hole is nowhere near the clubhouse. Equipment just sitting in the middle of the course. The list I have would make a book. Do not recommend this place at all.

Recently redesign to the original Donald Ross is a success. Played it Christmas Eve and it was in better than average condition. I play here probably 2 times per month. The greens are rolling good. A fair test. Not overly narrow or overly long. Fun to play.
