Good golf course, still working to make it better, but in all a very nice place to play golf.

Mike Anastasio

Very accommodating and friendly—- played with my two sons and their friend..... we had a blast. Staff really cares about your experience and it was evident- great people! We will be back when we golf in the area.

Brandon Harris

The workers were very pleasant and very helpful. On 11NOV16, the gentleman who was working the room and bar area was GREAT. We were there for a luncheon, memorial for a dear friend who was a Veteran of the Korean War. The gentleman, mentioned above, made it possible with his personality that we all nearly forgot the reason/sadness that we were there for. People like that are essential in all businesses. The food was very tasty. We had wished the macaroni and cheese had been hot. The presentation of the food was good. The cleanliness of your establishment, was exceptional. People should visit and eat at this golf course. A+ TH Nakatani and Ed Dzikiewicz

Ok what can I say? This is more like a 3.49 stars... if it was 3.5 I would give it the benefit of the doubt and round up to 4. The major factor for it not being 3 stars or 2.5 stars was the price. I paid $20 for 18 holes (walking/no cart) of 70+ par golf. That alone is worth 3 stars if the fairways, tee-boxes and greens are halfway decent. In this case the tee-boxes were o.k. The greens were average. The Fairways are really the reason this is not 4 stars. Sand traps were also way below average. Cheers!

Banner Lodge rebranded as Black Birch and has declined even farther, remaining one of the worst cared for courses you will find. With a layout that has the makings of a great course, clear signs of neglect can be found throughout. Expect to find tee boxes with nothing but crabgrass and dirt, inconsistent and patchy greens, and embarrassing fairways. Even the bunkers were full of hard sand that has clearly not been properly sourced or maintained. The staff was very nice.

Average, wondering how much it will sell at auction. Staff was friendly, would have been 4 stars if there was more grass in certain places

Great place would recommend, superb staff

The course is in a way better shape than it was last time I played here 2-3 years ago. Great price for the full 18 with cart too.

I'd rate the course a 4 Staff a 5 Value a 5 This course is a gem, and I'd certainly have a new golf home if I was a local. It's hard to find affordable golf courses anymore that are in good condition and you leave having a fun time. Course was in good shape and provided enough challenge for an intermediate golfer. Certain areas, the tee boxes could be improved, but so do most courses. For the price, it is unbelievable value for the conditions. I also like that you can walk, which is becoming rare in golf. Staff was very friendly and contributed to the experience. I wish there were more courses like this, where an average golfer can have a great time, be treated respectfully, and not have to take a loan out to play

New management is putting a lot into the course. Still a little rough but a beautiful 18 holes.

Came for the first time 8/4/17. Was surprised at this hidden gem. Course is clearly making a comeback. I absolutely love the layout-- it's challenging yet playable. The place is steeped in history as the course was once the focal point of a resort dating back to the 30's. There is so much potential here with a great club house and the surrounding real estate. Come on out, support local golf and give the course a try. The prices are very reasonable and the staff friendly.

Cheap to play. The course is very shabby. They are trying to improve but very slow on doing so. Good to play early in season when trying to get the rust out of game because of price. The layout is nice. As of 11/07/17 course is in the best shape of season.

The low cost of this course does not in any way justify playing here. This could be a wonderful course, it is laid out very well and the greens are in very good shape. The course has not been kept up though. Fairways are 90% crabgrass and have zero roll after your initial drive. Tee boxes are similarly all crabgrass. Unless they invest in new sod and keep the course up, avoid it, as it does not provide an enjoyable experience.

Good value pleasant staff

Decent course in decent shape.

Andy Smith

They are just finishing up work on the course (adding sprinkler system) and besides where the work was done the course was in good shape. The course plays really well, a few par 5's so there are some long holes. Sand traps are pretty big. The clubhouse is fantastic as is the bar and restaurant on site.

I have played banner lodge for years( only front 9 because the condition of the back 9) I went back a week ago under the new management and played 18. Was very pleased to see how much time and money have gone into improving the course. Will be making a visit back today hopefully to play 18 again. Things don't change over night so I'm looking forward of the future of this very well improving course.

Louis Menghi

Freindly staff a challenge for every skill level and very reasonably priced

I grew up on this course, learn to play here over 50 years ago. Then it was just a nine hole course. Eventually expanded to 18 holes. Played there regularly for many years, and it was never really well-maintained. Went back this week and I was extremely surprised at the improvements that have been made. Highly recommend anyone in the area to give it a try. Greens were in great, great shape. Many improvements, such as several well laid out asphalt cart paths. Realigned several holes to make them fair, but challenging. Cleaned out many areas of brush and undergrowth. Ponds are well-maintained, with good landscaping. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Connecticut.

Mark Salie

I play hear all the time very challenging

This would be my favorite course to play at. Has 18 holes great holes, all well kept and maintained. Walking 9 is only $10 which is the cheapest I have found, and honestly it doesn't seem like a $10 course. I've played on $20-$30 courses that are half as nice as this one. Definitely would suggest checking them out.

My first time playing this course and I love the layout. A real all round test of a golfer's skills and I think as long as the conditions are good that experienced golfers will give it praise. No complaints of tall and unkempt fairway grass from me. Everything looked well manicured. Though the greens were cut pretty short allowing for fast putts. The conditions were very wet due to the amount of rain as of late. But it was tolerable. Some of the sand traps are like concrete, particularly on the front nine. Perhaps change the composition of sand a bit? {I'm no groundskeeper}. And while though I'm not big time in to whether a course has food and drink, the restaurant was closed for the year. Not that that would lower my rating of this course. Except for my frustrating score it was a most enjoyable visit. Some of the poor reviewers obviously are looking outward to blame the course. If the course "doesn't reward a good shot". then you didn't read the hole correctly. You want to play on a prairie? Then go take a golf vacation in Oklahoma. I look forward to repeated visits.

Customer service in the clubhouse was nice. The fairways are kind of thinner than you think once you go and walk the course. Alot of burnt patches of grass make it a little dusty, especially on the front 9. Some long par 5's and par 3's make it fun and interesting but mostly a par 4 course. Still was some re-seeding taking place on the back 9 but overall an average course. Better than what it was but still average.

Good place to start

The course is alright, but not great. It's casually taken care of, but not well attended too. The paths are a mess, and the fairways are fairly long. It's also kind of hidden away from the main roads. Road noise is very low on the course, but it takes quite a bit of time to get back to the highway.
