I recently moved into a house and was recently told I had a mold issue on one of my bushes. Now I do not have a green thumb what so ever, which is why I came in looking for help. When I showed a gentleman a picture of what I was dealing with he said he wanted to verify with someone else. So we walked all the way to the back in a building and he asked an older guy to help us out. I showed him the pictures of what I thought to be mold and his response was," Holy S*%! That is disgusting!" I was extremely embarrassed mainly because he said it so loud. He explained they were mealybugs not mold. As I said before, I have no knowledge in this field, so I asked if he could explain to me where they come from. His response, "From their mom! I don't know and I don't care to know! You can google it when you get home" he then showed me a product and told me how to use it. I walked out feeling so embarrassed and upset. I might be back if I'm looking for a plant, but most definitely won't ask for help. I'm young and am still learning since this is our first house. I don't need to feel like a complete idiot when I ask a simple question and am looking to learn. I suggest customer service training.

We've been to the 'neighborhood' McDonald Garden Center at Virginia Beach Blvd and King's Grant Road a few times already this Spring. April, the manager, is such a ball of energy and full of knowledge. My wife and I enjoy seeing how she showcases the various plants and flowers. She and her crew are vivacious and very helpful.

This review stems from multiple visits not specifically one visit. The staff at this particular location does not provide any sort of customer service at all and is incredibly rude. One visit about a month ago, I began to ask an employee about their native plant selection when another employee interrupted our conversation to gossip. I waited awkwardly for about ten minutes with no acknowledgement and left. This has happened twice at this location. Today, I went in looking for soil and compost. Three employees were within 10 feet of where we standing (not busy), there was no acknowledgement, no attempt to help, no anything. So again, I left and went to a different nusery.

They have the best Japanese Maple selection in town. The tiny pint sized containers are only $20.00. With cupons and sales you can get them for about $10.00. This is roughly 70% cheaper than amazon or mailorder. The spring pop up parking lot tents are a sure sign summer is almost here. Known for quality plants.

We took advantage of the sale which was $15 per Flat. It was a nice day to stroll and enjoy the grounds. Mid Day during the week it isn't crowded . It was great not having to wait in long lines and jockey for space to select plants. If you have been to one of their Anchor locations they carry "everything Garden." Soil, mulch, plants, trees, vegetables, garden and patio decorations, planters and pots of all colors and sizes and shapes, furniture and so much more. They also have neighborhood locations throughout the area. The staff genuinely know their stuff and will be able to assist in making the best selections. It was a great shopping experience

I attended a seminar on getting rid of moles and voles. 1. Put down repellent in over 5 days pushing them away from your house. 2. Tamp down the tunnels so you can see when they return. 3. Put down milky spore to eliminate grubs. 4. When the moles return, repeat the repellent. Note: moles are carnivorous but voles are vegetarians. Moles dig the tunnels and lazy voles use their tunnels. It takes 1-2 years to get rid of them and even then they can come back.

It's a lovely place, I wish I could take a picnic lunch there and spend the afternoon. All the plants look vibrant and healthy. That being said, it's also very expensive. I don't feel like paying $500 for a garden bench or $80 for a pottery cat. This place will hit you hard in the pocket book. I spent almost $80 on 9 plants. I wouldn't have gone there myself but it was a mother's day gift. selection of herbs is also somewhat lacking. Shop at your own risk.

I never have any problems with plants I purchase from here. No mealy bugs, rotted roots, or diseased plants! After getting mealy bugs from another garden center, I cut my ties and shop here exclusively. The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm always recommending friends to go there.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. Majorly overhyped place, like almost everything around here. Nice plants aren't the entire picture geniuses. I'll get my "alright" japanese maple from Home Depot and call it a day. People around here go absolute ape s##t over "local businesses" so the businesses pretty much get away with murder. It's the strangest phenomenon I've ever encountered. Another example of this type of major hype/under performance: Citrus. Oh well. Go for it.

On one of my many random adventures, I have found the need to purchase an Aloe Vera plant; Into which lead me to an awesome discovery, and I am thankful that it did. The McDonald Garden Center is one of those hidden gems who deserves recognition. A great big shout out for the very pleasant and helpful team at the Garden center for their knowledge, expert advice and just over-all awesome personalities. Walk into the garden and get that immediate rush of fresh air, that throws you into an atmosphere of pleasant serenity, and forces you to slow down and take deep breaths. The garden creates a pure, relaxing ,feel-good vibe that could make any busy body stop and smell the roses. I found my Succulent (Aloe Vera) and planter at an amazing affordable price, and I wasn't stressed while looking. I think the next time I go, I might just bring my notebook and do a little writing at the McDonald Garden Center. Remember to support your local business ; )

I visit McDonalds Garden Center every growing season many times. I love wondering around and seeing what's new and in bloom. I am a member of the Garden Rewards Club so I get some decent savings on items and timely emails keep me informed of the sales going on. The plants and edibles are always in good health and I have good luck with them when I bring them home. The Center is beautifully laid out and I love to wonder in there on a nice day. This place is a green thumbs dream! I am in love with this nursery and garden center. There is no better place in Virginia Beach or Norfolk aside from the botanical gardens! It May be slightly pricy in some ways, but I have no doubt that my plants will survive, and are of the highest quality.

Came here for the first time a few days ago and have been a few times since. We can’t think of any better spot to get anything for our gardening needs. This place is MASSIVE and has anything you could ever want. The succulent selection is huge, the staff is very helpful, they have a butterfly tent you can check out with feeding times at different hours, they have honey bee colonies on display and so much more. You can honestly wander around for a couple hours it’s really incredible.
