REVIEWS OF Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden IN Virginia

This place is THE WORST. While the facility is amazingly beautiful, the staff is freaking horrendous. From the very beginning, they gave my best friend and us (best friend was the bride) a hard time. The bar tenders were EXTREMELY RUDE. From the very start, they were horrible to guests, gave everyone a hard time for the drink they ordered. It was an open bar but they kept joking how they were running out of vodka, and what were the guests going to do when they ran out? They were extremely horrible. They cut my friend off 1.5 before the wedding was over, and when asked why, they didn't give us an answer, just were rude and threatened to call security. They THEN CUT THE GROOM off and had the cops called on him. Following that incident, they cut the ENTIRE WEDDING OFF 1 hour before it was supposed to end. FOR NO REASON. Do yourself a favor and have your wedding somewhere else. You pay way too much money to have an open bar. The next day, multiple people had asked if the cops had come to the wedding, apparently it's a huge pattern and happens every weekend. DO NOT have your wedding here, it is terrible service. Such a beautiful venue! What a huge bummer. I'm so sad, because my best friend and her man deserved 100 times better service than what was given to them . Shame on Lewis Ginter and the people they have working for them.

This is a beautiful area. Spent almost two hours touring the grounds and I still feel like I haven't seen it all and that return visits are a must. We came out to see the LEGO sculptures that are currently being featured at the time of this review and they did not disappoint. In addition to being wonderful pieces of art, the Gardens provided educational information to accompany each sculpture. Our admission was free today to honor those who have been affected by some of the recent violence in our country which was a welcome gesture. If you're in the area you owe it to yourself to visit both to see some natural beauty and to learn about nature and conservation.

The King's Artisans

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden currently features artist Box, whose origami stainless steel sculptures are "out the box". Butterflies Alive! is now open. Visit the conservatory to witness it's beauty and then explore 50 acres of immaculately manicured grounds, the botanical library, cafe, restaurant, and gift shop. Let the kids swing from an ancient tree, build homes for creatures with logs, dig in the sand, climb or stroll up to the wheel-friendly observation tower, play in the mini house, splash in the little water park (summer). No wonder this garden is ranked as one of the best in the country!

Came down to Richmond for my nephews orientation at VCU for two days.On the second day we stayed back at the hotel but my little girl wanted to go somewhere. Checked out things for kids to do in Richmond and this place was suggested. The website mentioned a play area for children which included a spray ground. So, we decided to check it out. I'm so glad I did. This place is absolutely breathtaking.

Fantastic garden! The Christmas light show is a must see!

Heather Jones

It's beautiful and so peaceful!

Pramod Verma

Excellent Botanical Garden to spend 1-3hrs time with friends and family and enjoy strolling in the park or just picnic or even get inside the dome and experience amazing display of Orchids and other exquisite flowers. We visited in Spring Apr 1 so not much bloom but pretty good Tulips, Daffodils etc. The Store is bit expensive but overall Garden is value for money. Well maintained paths, nicely arranged flowers and small trek to take you through forest patch. Loved the Garden.

Heather Johnson

On a visit from Central Illinois to Richmond, my parents brought us to Lewis Ginter to see the holiday lights. What an amazing display! There was something amazing to look every direction you turned! The Christmas lights around the park were stunning. I wish it had been warmer out because I could have spent a lot more time walking around! The parking lot was busy, but well organized. We purchased tickets online and the check-in process was very fast and easy. Everyone working the event was very nice and happy. It was busy but not overwhelmingly busy. Everything ran very smoothly. My favorite part was looking at all of the orchids in the conservatory. I took so many pictures! They were gorgeous! I can't speak for the outdoor gardens when they're in bloom, but I hope I get the chance to visit again and see all the gardens!

Debbie Satkowski

My friend and I visted The Botanical Gardens last Summer during a Resident Apreciation Day. It was so nice to see the place again! You can spend an entire day at "The Gardens" as we locals call it and see things you haven't seen on any previous visit. There's always a new exihibit or attraction and with miles of trails, you're to find something interesting and new!!!

Wonderful place to visit. Beautiful garden and delicious food.

Eyob Weldetensay

This place is very clean and beautiful!

Joel Ingram

An amazing staple in the Richmond area. The gardens are beautiful year round. A great place for kids activities indoor and outdoor, solitude abounds in different parts of the garden if you want it, and during the holiday season the light installation is so beautiful and well done. Concerts are also great here, and they have dog friendly events summer and winter as well. The restaurant is fantastic, the gift shop is huge, and the library is a great place to visit well. Highly recommend visiting no matter what time of year.

Steve Cabinatan

Beautiful Christmas lights. We got there before it got busy and various parking spots were available (around 1630). Highly advise to dress warm; too many people came and went in such a short time because the drop in temperature. Take advantage of the different events they have e.g. story time, visit Santa. Overall, it was a great experience for the family and I.

Michelle Crawley

Beautiful scenery. Loved the butterfly conservatory. My first visit here was enjoyable.

Just went tonight to see the Holiday lightning with family. The garden is beautiful, and holiday lights were everywhere. Staff was helpful & informative. Glass Observatory is also very nice. There were also model trains there. The entry ticket is very reasonable priced.

Monica Dailey

We went for the holiday light display and it was amazing. While it was night and we couldn't see the gardens, we were able to access a number of the buildings and really enjoyed the displays. Will definitely go back for a day visit. I was visiting Richmond for business and wanted to be outdoors on a beautiful Spring day with the temperature in the seventies. I searched Trip Advisor and saw these gardens recommended. I'm so happy I went and will definitely visit again. I would love to see what it looks like in April as things are just getting ready to burst! I wanted some exercise and had plenty of space to walk for almost 2 hours.

Saúl Rosas

This place is awesome!!! I was there on vacation the last day of December 2018. Had an amazing night and experience with all the lights around the garden. I’ll definitely try to go again this year!

Scott McNutt

My girlfriend and I went to see the holiday lights presented by Dominion Electric. Might I say it was a fine display of lights and a truly creative work of art. We hadn't been before so we were uncertain as to what to expect. What a wonderful evening and a wonderful display. I hope the photos help more than the review did. #ScottMcNuttReviewsRVA

Andrew Wood

Superior botanical garden with WAY more to it than I originally thought. The outdoor gardens were way larger than was expecting with was a very pleasant surprise, especially so since they were impeccably manicured. And the greenhouse is SPLENDID. Visiting the botanical garden was an awe-inspiring experience!

Rita Pearson

What a wonderful place! Every time I go I see something different! So many beautiful flowers and plants to see. Very well groomed for our viewing pleasure! Great giant treehouse that is loved by kids big and small. Wonderful and inventive areas for the kids to play. My favorite area is the fountain pool. When the tulips bloom in the Spring it is magical!

Éric Bibard

Beautiful place, flawless greenhouse. I also graduated from their Urban gardener program and they do great things in the community !

Taylor Walls

Beautiful gardens. The photo is from their holiday light display, but I recommend going any season. Always looks great, so well cared for.

Matt Hoke

The gardens were absolutely beautiful. The entire place was so clean and well taken care of. It is truly a magical place. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking. Worth every penny of the admissions ticket. We can only immagine the work that must go into keeping a place of that size in such emaculate condition. The ONLY reason I didnt give it 5 stars was the on site restaurant. The food was absolutely terrible. 2 salads( consisting of 3 wedges of iceberg lettuce and a few tomatoes and we added chicken)2 cups of soup 3 teas and 2 desserts $60. With tip lunch was over $70! That price wouldn't be so bad, But the food was horrible. Three cubes of grilled chicken on the salad were so tough you couldnt chew them. The flavor was good but it was tough and textured as though it was microwaved. They could also use more places throughout the property to get a drink. There was almost nowhere. Having said all that, I realize this is a garden and not a theme park or restaurant. I would go again and again and plan to. Next time, however, I will plan to eat outside the garden and bring water.

Andrew Roland

Beautiful gardens. Staff was friendly and helpful. While we were there, they were setting up for their Christmas light display. We didn't get to see it, obviously, but judging from what we saw, it should be amazing. We also got a sneak peek of their Christmas tree made of flowers. It was very striking. The greenhouse had some amazing plants and the fountains and ponds across the property are gorgeous. Highly recommend for a relaxing afternoon stroll. Will be back!

Sharon Lopez

We went for the holiday light display and it was amazing. While it was night and we couldn't see the gardens, we were able to access a number of the buildings and really enjoyed the displays. Will definitely go back for a day visit.

CoffeeM Videos

Good place to hang out with family and kids. Nice collection of flora. May not be super big but very apt for the place. Kids can enjoy the place too. Nice botanical green house with wide variety of flora. Nice display stalls.

Frances Compton

Absolutely beautiful!

Stephanie Wilson

Beautiful scenery, but staff were very rude.

Maria Gonzales

I first came here in 2017 when I was invited to see the holiday garden full of lights. I fell in love and came back here in May to see the blooms. So grateful I am learning all about the garden each time I visit. Beautiful.

Edward Robertson

This is a beautiful place me and my lover would spend the day here and enjoy the site's. Very relaxing and educational. Great place for family and friends to.

Devin Lyle Cominskie

The lights at Christmas time were amazing. Well worth the price and more.

Anthony Cressa

I could go on & on but simply put everything about this place is amazing! A photographer’s heaven. Love how they mixed the streams, ponds, & lakes throughout the entire garden. First time seeing a butterfly house & it was great. Laid out nicely & easy access to everything. Very clean & all staff were friendly. The kid’s section was really nice & different. This was our first visit & definitely plan on returning.

Tamara Salyers

So amazing to visit during Christmas time!

Jonathan Harar

We did the Dominion Christmas lights here and had an awesome time!! Amazing displays and helpful staff.

Alea Q

This was nice to visit but the state of some of the plants and trees are a little sad. Some plants do need pruning to stay healthy and it looked like that didn't happen this time around.

Alissa Thorell

We are members and the Gardens are wonderful. Year round, there is something to do! In the summer the children's garden is full of fun for kids. The winter Christmas lights are lovely. This is a great place to visit!

Michelle Helm

Was there for a wedding... staff was really rude & acted like they really didn't want us there... the bride & groom had to address the crowd three times saying champagne was coming but since there was only one person doing it, they were done with speeches before it came out... coordinator was no where to be found and was full of attitude. Beautiful site but all FOH catering staff should go.

Victoria Lua

Incredibly beautiful! The landscaping is impeccable and there are always different flowers to discover throughout the seasons. The domed conservatory had even more unique plants to see! They have different family events throughout the year, including a butterfly exhibit and the Gardenfest of Lights at Christmastime. Dogs are also welcome at certain times throughout the year.

Ryan Maddox

This place is very nice and well kept. Would love to see live music here.

Lindsay Brown

If I could leave 10000000 stars, I would!! Was only in Richmond for the night and this place completely blew me away, and I couldn't believe how cheap admission was for how huge the area is, especially with an entire building full of butterflies that wasn't even an extra cost. The staff in all departments were incredibly friendly & helpful, and I found some really neat things in the gift shop to bring home (& something for a friend too!!) This place alone makes me wish I lived in Richmond; overall a very beautiful and pleasant city! Captures some beautiful photos, so many that my camera died right as I was walking out! May update my review and post some when I make it back home(:

katherine pacheco

My favorite place in Richmond. Love the butterfly exhibit the tulips and roses. The Japanese garden and teahouse are just lovely. Also come at Christmas and see the light show.

Randy Neisler

We've been to Ginter many times. Went yesterday to see the roses. They were absolutely beautiful. This place is very well run and maintained. Its one of the best attractions in Richmond.

Angelina Winten

From the conservatory butterflies to the Christmas lights to the glorious bulbs of spring as well as the glorious fall colors, there is always something to see here. While you're here stop and get a bite to eat in the cafe or the Tea House after you have shopped in the awesome gift shop filled with art and garden goodies.

Brian Turner

Great place to walk and enjoy the outdoors and scenery.

Karthik Jayaram

Lewis Ginter is a jem of a place to visit in Richmond, VA. This can be a day's trip or you can stroll for just an hour. I usually take annual membership so I can walk in the pristine gardens more often. Beautiful gardens aside, they have kids activities, butterfly garden in summer, Christmas lights in winter, a restaurant, a gift shop, well they have soooooo many things. This place is famous for people getting married!!!

Aaron H

Beautiful area, lots for the kids to do and enjoy. Will definitely head back that way again in the future

Manthan Gandhi

A must see for first time visitors, especially during Christmas light festival.

Actually A Bee

It was lovely here. We went during the rose fest, when they had music and ballet going on. I'd recommend it.

Robert Adams

This place is always great to come too on their free days. It does cost alot to come here regularly but even with the amount of people it's still not that bad on free days. The splash pad and children's garden are great as well. Plenty of pokestops if you still play pokemon go.

baronr33

Best place on the east coast to see flowers, beautiful rare trees, and butterflies!

Adam thevisibility

Butterfly exhibit was phenomenal!

Dolly Buchanan

Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to experience the holiday lights. Wonderful.

Ron Page

Amazing gardens and facilities

Anand Francis

Excellent place to spend a day with the family. Lots of cool seating and great mixture of exotic and local plants. The butterfly exhibit was very nice. Support this local business.

Kim Klaas

Great place to take kids in the summer, complete with water sprinkler fun. Be prepared to do some walking, though. The gardens were beautiful, volunteers at each venue were super nice and helpful. It can get hot, though. We forgot a shirt and had to run back to retrieve it, and while the rest of my party waited in the lobby and AC, the lady working inside was very anxious, almost rude about shuffling the others in my party out before I got back - one of which had mobility issues. In all fairness, it was closing time, although we were not the last to leave.

Jason Harding

We went there for the Festival of Lights for the holiday season and we all loved it. Amazing visit :)

Robert Jones

A wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Very spacious gardens, lots of room to walk and think to yourself, tons of opportunity for flower photography. However, perhaps due to the time of year we stopped in (early June), there seemed to be far less wildlife than I had expected to see, one or two butterflies outside, and only three different species of birds that I saw. Some turtles swimming around which was cool. Nice little water play area for kids on hot summer days which was a huge plus.

Yaseen Al Mufti

Beautiful gardens and lakes. The views are amazing. There is also a butterfly garden but you have to make sure you come before 5. Also if you are a student you can get the 1 year membership for half the price. Totally worth it. It is also very family friendly with places for children to play in the water.

Billy Ziegler

About as good as it gets for botanical gardens.

DIANNE Nóbrega

Love this place! Went for the day when I visited Richmond. Good food too.

Matthus Monks

The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden are beautiful and the lights were very well done. Although cold, the walk was great and even the kids enjoyed the expedition. There are several places you can enter along the way and opportunity to pick up Hot Chocolate as well. I will say dress warm.... Parking was good and very well organized coming in to the attraction but, exiting was a little challenging as the signs were placed backwards. Trivial but not a deal breaker. Come early and parking is ample. Highly recommend if in the area.

HourGlass UpsideDown

I've been going here every now and then for almost as long as I can remember. (I live right down the street, so it's easy to get there.) I can only give a biased review, seeing as I've not been in any areas except the children's area and the greenhouse (usually only during the holiday season, too) The plants are beautiful, and I always feel immersed in the scene while I'm walking around. Lots of interactive areas!!

Austin Durham

If you are a nature freak like myself, then you will fall in love with this place. So many beautiful plant species at all times throughout the year, and incredible landscape architecture! Bring your kids, they will have a wonderful time. Also the festival of lights in the wintertime is probably one of my favorite things I've ever done in Richmond.

Keith Kellam

This is a one of a kind facility for the Richmond area. The grounds are superbly maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. The holiday light shows are incredible and are a "must attend" event. If you have never been here, you owe yourself two trips. Once in the spring or fall during the day, and once at night during the holiday light shows.

Michale Nugent

Good for kids on a hot day! Splash pad is good for cooling off.

Sridhar Srinivasan

Thanks for the Free Ticket on 7/4.. We enjoyed a lot.. So many beautiful flowers and plants to see. Very well groomed for our viewing pleasure! Beautiful area, lots for the kids to do and enjoy. Will definitely head back that way again in the future, The gardens were absolutely beautiful. The entire place was so clean and well taken care of. It is truly a magical place. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking. Beautiful variety of flowers and plants, just a peaceful place to stroll around and take it all in. Great giant treehouse that is loved by kids big and small. Wonderful and inventive areas for the kids to play. My favorite area is the fountain pool. Also Dont miss Butterflies Live.. This place is very hot but It's very good too..

B.J. Allen

The gardens are amazing. The butterfly room was an incredibly peaceful experience that i could do all day long.

LÍDIA LEOCADIO

Beautiful

kar bing

nice. only bad thing is I got dumped here

Bryan Blevins

Nice quiet place to observe nature. Also things to with children, to play, learn, and burn off energy at the same time.

Jessee C

During the holiday season, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens is transformed into a winter wonderland of lights. There are lights all over. They have a huge fire pit in the back, there is also station for hot chocolate and warm drinks. If you don't want to be outside then go inside the library building and enjoy one of the biggest toy train sets you've ever seen. Don't forget to get a picture in front of their gigantic Christmas tree.

Dawn Seibert

Lovely, diverse gardens and conservatory. This is often rated in the top 12 or 15 gardens in the country and I agree. Especially loved all the hardscape and large carnivorous pitcher plant displa on the lake's island. We used our Missouri Botanical Garden membership reciprical garden pass, good for over 300 gardens nationwide.

Laura Maher

Best kept "secret" in Richmond. We've had a family membership here for 3+ years and absolutely love it. They have numerous special events - Peter Rabbit Easter Bunny, fall/halloween themed events, Gardenfest of Lights at Christmas, concerts for Mother's Day/Father's Day, and the summer concert series - all included with price of admission. Some of the concerts even welcome dogs. Hours are expanded on weekends and Thursdays in summertime, which is fantastic. There is a butterfly house every spring/summer included with admission. There is a splash pad open from April-October weather dependent. The children's garden is absolutely amazing. The gardens are always so well kept - benches/seating areas always clean, pathways very well maintained, etc. My daughter has spent many hours exploring and playing. The special exhibits are constantly changing and are so family-friendly. I am very picky about 5-star reviews, but I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. Can't recommend highly enough.

Sandra Marr

Such a beautiful setting. Always something new to see.

Donnell Lyons

The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden was beautiful the highlight of the botanical garden was the butterfly garden. The butterfly garden offered a variety of butterflies and plants that support the butterflies. The botanical garden is an amazing place to the children place with a water area, sandbox, clubhouse and numerous house and greenhouse for children to play and have fun. For the adults just walk around and enjoy the beauty of flowers, trees and other plants. I highly recommend the botanical garden.

shimon zitter

It's fine. The end is really nice.

jill Reyes.

This is one of our family’s Christmas traditions. We have never been disappointed. Beautifully done every year!!! It brings out the Christmas spirit for all. Thanks to all who make this possible.

David Silver

Beautiful during cherry blossom season

Chris Nycum

My family have been members for several years now and this is one of the greatest bargains in Richmond. If you have young children they will love the kids area. In addition to all the lovely foliage there is a library, dining, special events, a conservatory and lots of things to see and do. Love this place!

Christopher Winkler

Incredibly beautiful and immaculately kept grounds and gardens galore. We visited on a free day--Labor Day--and the grounds were packed. Yet the staff were incredibly organized and efficient, directing everyone to parking and ensuring the swell of people was hardly noticable (except for the butterfly live exhibit...nothing they could do about that line). The grounds are amazing, with beautiful plants, flowers, trees, and more expertly organized and paths everywhere. If you have children aged 1-9, there are plenty of events and toys for them in the kids area. This includes a cool sprinkler play area, so bring their bathing suit and a change of clothes. You can spend the entire day in the kid zone or explore the dozens of paths. Inside the welcome center is a beautiful dining room attached to a small cafeteria. You'll also find a large gift shop there as well. There are plenty of bathrooms all around the grounds as well.

Meredith Reed

LOVE coming here for Festival of Lights by Dominion. Every year is something special and new, and my boys LOVE it!!! We also used to go see Santa, but I'm not sure if they're still hosting that as it was downgraded last year to the smaller restaurant. Tons of activities for littles ones to enjoy, a great chance to teach them about nature and taking care of plants! Beautiful gardens!!! Well worth the time and visit!

Tasha greene

Most beautiful places I've ever been too. I proposed to my fiancé there underneath a lovely gazebo overlooking red roses. My fiancé enjoyed the butterfly live area. We will be coming back to see the lovely flowers and plants.

Conor Waters

Beautiful flowers... exhibits are gorgeous....must see for tourists

Jess Tracy

Beautiful place with so many options for people of all ages.

Diane Leiter

They have the most beautiful plants here, and some amazing exhibits. I recently visited for the LEGO exhibit, and wandered into the Butterflies Alive!, which was wonderful. The Children's Garden and play area is incredible.

Vincent Fabiano

I went on New Year's Day to see the Holiday Lights and decorations. I was really impressed with the beautiful assortment and variety of lights and decorations on display. There was a lot of creativity and thought put behind their light display, and holiday decor. For example, there were lights in the shapes of animals that were part of story book themes, like the Tortoise and the Hare. Also, I thought the plants on display in their Conservatory were inspiring reminders of the beauty that the Earth can create. The winter holiday theme was continued inside the Kelly Education Center Building, with an elaborate model train set up. That brought back fond memories of the model train that I had going around my Christmas tree as a child. If one is hungry or wants something to drink, there is a dining area with various food and drink items for sale. I was very happy that they sold Hot Cocoa as the day I went was very cold, and it did my body good to ingest something hot and sweet. And before leaving, if one would like to purchase a souvenir from their visit, there is a gift shop stocked with a variety of Botanical Garden themed products. I will definitely will be returning for another visit. I look forward to seeing what plants will be on display during the Spring and Summer months.

Ceasar Allen

My 1st time, flew in from Atlanta toured parts of the garden. Must fly back again to see what I missed. Everything was fabulous and big ups to the friendly staff. Must return.

Patrick Mehfoud

Really impressive grounds and gardens, enjoyed walking around. Most of the pathways are big enough for strollers and there's lots of things for the kids to do. Could definitely have spent the better part of an afternoon here.

Estelle Hamilton

What a beautiful place! I had only been to the Norfolk Botanical gardens so I came in ready to compare but was pleasantly suprprised at how immaculate the grounds were. In comparison to Norfolk, you can tell they really take care to get the best flowers and displays, I was very impressed at the selection and it rivaled Norfolk by far. Their kids "splash park" was very very small in comparison to the water park at Norfolk, as was their "international village" which was really just a couple vacant huts with no real objective. They had this cool treehouse but it was completely empty, no literature points or things for the kids to play with. So I would say for kids, this isn't as fun as it could be but the gardens and aesthetic of the place make it all worth it.

Debra Stenson

Loved the gardens. Plan to spend at least 3 hours here to get the full experience. I particularly enjoyed the views by the bodies of water.

Clinton Lewis

Great gardens to enjoy a morning, afternoon or day. The events are always nice year around and it is well maintained.

Uliana Kolinko

So happy i got to visit this place

Wilma Langeveld

The lights and displays get every year less and less spectacular. Not worth the amount of money you have to pay. We were done within an hour. And Van Gogh did not have his sunflowers in a garbage container. I liked the flowers on the ground and the large Xmas tree but what about the display over the large water part...Very little foto options with the gardens being this dark and barren.

John Cardoso

What a beautiful Garden! Beautiful place to visit! Recommend to anyone visiting VA

Jeff and Jane Abbett

Well worth the $13 entry to support this place....

Meredith Beck

Incredible! I do agree with others here that parking is kind of confusing. If you get cold they have good cider. Most of it was outside when we were there (I don't know if that changes) so dress appropriately. Huge gift shop but kind of gimmicky I couldn't even find simple postcards. We didn't try the little restaurant but people seemed to really be enjoying it.

Cordelia Collects

My siblings and I were going to try to take a couple of photos together for Mothers' day. We were ready to pay the almost $40 admission but were told we would have to pay an additional $150 just to take a couple photos as if we were doing a professional photo shoot when it was literally just us and a camera. We went somewhere else instead.

Jon Matlock

Absolutely beautiful gardens! I will say that it gets a bit crowded during the free days (which I think only happen a couple of times a year), but it's still definitely worth the visit. We especially enjoyed the butterfly conservatory. This place provides hours of enjoyment for all ages. Highly recommended!

Phillip J

Very nice facility. Nice plants. But a BIT "pricey" for a "family outing". Food is great, but also expensive. I wouldn't recommend this for elderly people that can't walk long distances. There are small inclines and lots of walking. There are park benches to sit at, but they are not a near to one another as they should be. The butterfly exhibit is extraordinary

I CC

This place is beautiful. Tooks 2 hours and 30 minutes walk around gardens and take pictures. I want to go again when everything bloom completly.

lori james

“A Magical Night” We went to the Lewis Ginter Garden during the Holiday Light Festival and we were blown away. The garden is small so walking is no problem. The profusion of lights turn a nice garden to a magical wonderland. Spectacular displays. We also had dinner at the Teahouse, which was delicious, reasonable and you can't be the view. We lived here..

Mike Bates

A great place to come relax, see Nature in action, have some good food at the Tea House and all in a great location. Strongly recommend

Katy Harrington

Only been at Christmas time but it was really beautiful! We had free tickets so I don’t know if I would pay full price to do it again but we had fun with our two nieces. I loved that they had a fire going and hot chocolate to sell. The tree in the green house was beautiful!

Kathleen Caffee

Absolutely beautiful gardens! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Admission prices are very reasonably priced for what you get. There isn’t an extra fee for the butterfly

Brendan Pope

This place is absolutely gorgeous! Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is the place I will always want to go for a nice walk on a beautiful day, so many things to see and so many paths to explore.Everything is very kept kept and the employees that I had interactions with were all kind and courteous. The latest exhibits running until September are the really cool LEGO sculptures

Janis H.P.

Oh my gosh...this awesome place was beyond our expectations. Our tour bus returning to Ocala, FL from our trip to Washington DC stopped at this super botanical garden. I can sum it up with one word...WOW. Beautiful buildings, awesome pristine grounds, trees, bushes, plants, flowers galore, a great butterfly building...serenity. We walked the grounds, took pictures (of course) got a fantastic picture of the elusive blue butterfly (yup, I'm proud of it) had lunch in the café...yum, shopped in the gift shop...who could ask for anything more.

Cynthia Fedderman

Such a beautiful place with gorgeous gardens. Lots of walking. Kid-friendly.

Amelia Tapp

The restaurant is not bad and there’s a wonderful tree for kids to climb.

Kristy Inus

This is my favourite place in Richmond. I am overwhelmed with how amazing the place is just moments of entering the garden. That view of the greenhouse far away with colourful plants surrounding made me feel i am in an utopian world elsewhere. They have childrens corner which makes it an ideal day out for families as well as for photoshoots idea. They also have an amazing gift/souvenir shop. It was worth paying usd13 admission for this place.

Jackie Droujinsky

My guests were amazed by the beauty of the garden, the delicious food, and the friendly staff.

Jessica Hummel

I enjoyed my walk around these gardens. The butterfly area was nice also.

Austin Powell

Beautiful place to visit, I used to do volunteer with my school, and it was worth the experience. Great gardens and it’s so fun!

James Smith

This place is fabulous. I was there on a wedding and the area was great. There can be a stream flowing behind the building in which the wedding was and it turned out beautiful with trees and also the flowing water. It didn't sense New York at most of. The building itself had been great with two stages and great setting for 100 guests.

Beth Webster

In town for the morning and desided to visit. The grounds are wonderful and very unique, the buildings pretty. There were very helpful people in the conservatory who were able to answer our questions and seemed to love discussing the plants and butterflies. We had lunch at the cafe and it wasn't over priced and tasted delicious. Wish we could have spent more time there!

Great Garden for a walk or date. Especially liked the East Asian garden and tea house as well as the healing garden with all kinds of plants with healing properties from around the world. Butterflies exhibition currently going on was really nice. Food in the cafeteria was not the greatest however (crab was not really as fresh as we would have liked), possibly the tea house is a better choice. Also the children's garden, e.g. the musical instrument, was unfortunately in a not pristine state.

While visiting Richmond the gentleman that narrated the Trolley Tour that we took told us about the Ginter Botanical Garden. We drove out in the afternoon and it turned out to be the highlight of our visit. Spectacular gardens, beautifully cared for buildings and grounds and the big treat was the origami artwork throughout. Just fantastic. If you love flowers and gardens you will fall in love with this place. In addition they have the best gift shop I've ever been to outside NYC!!!

This place is magical. We are a family of eight with six children ranging in age from two years old to 15 years old. Finding activities that everyone can enjoy is nearly impossible. This is one of the few places where the toddlers, the teenagers, the adults, and everyone in between are all happy. This place is magical. This is one of the few places where the toddlers, the teenagers, the adults, and everyone in between are all happy. Summer and spring are as gorgeous as you would expect. But one of the best times of the year to visit is winter. The festival of lights is absolutely enchanting. All of our children absolutely insist we year after year. It’s one of their favorite holiday traditions. In the summertime they love playing in the sprinklers are just wandering around and getting lost in their thoughts. They often have activities set up for the children including sidewalk chalk, a book tree, hula hoops, and others. There are sandboxes and a great climbing tree. Don’t forget to look out for beautiful birds, turtles, fish, Etc. We recommend the family membership if you are planning to visit more than once. Oh! And don’t forget the butterfly house. My kids could spend all day in their as could I.

Just beautiful. The gardens are amazing. The butterfly exhibit is so cool. You can go back to that several times a year because different butterflies hatch at different times. I’ve been to a wedding here that was just gorgeous. The cafe is also great and has lots of options. You can eat there without paying admission. The gift shop is one of the best I’ve seen. The only bad things are the parking lot is not great and the admission is expensive.

Beautiful Beautiful park, and it is super well maintained. The perfect full family destination, as they even have things to get young kids engaged! A great resource here in our own RVA!

This is a beautiful place. Last time I visited during Christmas Eve and that was amazing.. Beautifully decorated with lights and it was a fantastic experience. Visited it again today on the fourth of July 2017. It's free admission today and it is fully crowded but the staff and volunteers were so helpful that it remained yet another memorable day. Definitely worth a visit. Also included pics from my Christmas visit..

We visited in the 4th of July and it was fairly busy, but with so much to see, it was a real pleasure. There was a butterfly exhibit, which had a significant line, but the staff kept water available. There was a band in the kids garden area. The Japanese garden we're beautiful and peaceful. Thankfully it was also free due to a holiday promotion. This place was a wonderful stop on our vacation and helped us recharge with a slower pace for the day.

Beautiful variety of flowers and plants, just a peaceful place to stroll around and take it all in.

My Grandmother absolutely loved coming here when she came in town. It is so nice that they have wheelchairs for people to use while they're here. I can't wait for the Christmas lights again!

Highly suggest you visit the gardens or bring anyone from out of town to visit. Great activities for children of all ages. Very beautiful and peaceful. Staff is always helpful and friendly. The butterfly house and Japanese Gardens are my personal favorite.
