I gave this place three tries, as I really wanted to like this business. First trip, was sold what were basically plugs, but in larger "two year" containers. The roots were not established.. I was basically charged $10 extra per plant for dirt. When I called, was not given an option to swap for a proper product, just had someone try to convince me that somehow this was "ok". Second trip: Was sold Golden Rod labeled as "September Ruby" Aster. Went back a third time (before I discovered the golden rod/aster issue): Bought a butterfly weed plant, which was harboring aphid eggs, the result of which was aphids eating that plant and spreading to my other butterfly weeds. Three strikes.

The establishment may be beautiful, but the management sure is not. While waiting to check out, I witnessed the owner huff and puff, and snap at a cashier who was clearly training - she continued to be rude to the next customer, after telling her employee to leave. While asking her what I should use on my roses, she quickly dismissed me with a scoff, as she swiped my card... Their selection is great, and grounds beautiful, but I will not return after being treated with absolutely no value.

Great experience. Had to drive 90 minutes to get to Horsford Nursery but was rewarded by a large selection of outstanding plants, helpful staff and reasonable prices. Within minutes of my arrival it became clear that a visit to Horsford is an enormous step up from the offerings of the local box store. I highly recommend a visit.

I have half of my rain garden plants from Horsfords. I have bought plants from them since the early 1980's. Both Annuals, and perennials. Charlie Prout, the owner, has a wonderful landscape design firm, here, as well: Distinctive Landscaping. Whose policy has always been to contain storm water runoff, reuse, recycle, anything possible, and create unusual designs in both large and small spaces, including unique garden shed design, curving rock walls, pervious brick pavers. Over the years, when I have needed help, it has been given to me, easily, with a smile. When I just needed a quart of ground blue stone, instead of the huge bag they were selling, they let me take some from their landscaping pile. They have helped the charitable Flynn Garden Tour several times with lectures, places for the tea, plants given out as gifts, discounts, and garden tours. I am on the committee for the tours. and today they helped save Lake Champlain from too much storm water runoff by working with LCI, and holding a class on designing, planting, a rain garden.

We at Horsfords recognize a problem with phones. We are gardeners, growers, landscapers and landscape architects - often fielding questions from the gardens and fields. To address that problem, most of our woody plant prices can now be found on-line in our catalog of plants. In addition, we have hired someone to answer the phones who will be happy to help out navigating through our nursery. I can only ask our reviewers to at least visit. All of our plants (accepting those still in the ground) have signs posted that honestly depict their attributes and pricing. Customers who visit are often blown away by our quality and selection. And when you do visit we will do our best to give you the attention you need and deserve.

We have had wonderful experiences at this nursery over the years, but most recently, we had exceptional service. We purchased a tree and had it delivered and planted. The tree is beautiful, the service was amazing, and the gentleman who planted the tree was professional and did an amazing job. We highly recommend coming to Horsford Nursery for any landscaping you may need!

We called About some vines we were interested in buying. We wanted to know if they had them and how much. A guy said "Toby" would call us back after a meeting they were in. We never got a phone call. We called back at 4:15 pm and the same guy answered. We tried to get a ask about a price but he disconnected. We called back and a lady named Julliette answered. We asked how much and she said we will call you back. We are going to Gardeners Supply to buy all our plants now. Horrible serve with customers.

Passing by on business trip from NY. All I can say is completely unexpected and amazing! Selection was unbelievable and staff very helpful and friendly. Prices seemed fair and you could see the effort that went into taking care of and arranging the plants just so. How good was It? I'll be bringing my wife on a field trip the 4 1/2 hours back to show her the acres and acres of this nursery. That's how good it is! Go- you'll be glad you did.

Great selection and quality. Beautiful grounds. The staff is helpful and friendly. The owner seems to be a bit disinterested in customer service both in person and over the phone. She may want to consider staying out of the limelight.

So much amazing stuff to see and so little time! Around every corner sweeping masses of perennials bursting color...long green houses packed with annuals and uncommon cultivars .. acres and acres of shrubs, healthy trees...Fully staffed with a posse of true grit gardeners, hardscapers, growers, designers, veteran architect..Just go for the fun of it if nothing else.

WOW! No hyperbole....this is most enchanting nursery with old quaint buildings, stonework, sheds and greenhouses on the planet! Owners Eileen, Charlie and their amazing team are among the most knowledgeable, helpful and gracious group my wife and I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They produced an exquisite landscape/hardscape design for our 1910 near teardown camp with that was literally falling into the lake after 40+ years of neglect. Post construction they brought in massive amounts of stone, soil and gravel, incorporated natural drainage that saved us thousands....as we do not need any gutters!! Prior to that all the rain washed into the entry ways and we had post-construction dust and mud up to our eyeballs. They laid out gravel walk ways around the house, exposed gem of a hidden natural ledge and then planted the most exquisite collection of trees, shrubs, ferns, perennials and ground cover (myrtle)...that looks quiet, peaceful, understated and as if it always was that way. Thanks a bazillion Horsford's Nursery/Distinctive Landscaping. We love you!

Today both the owner of the nursery and the young lady who was carefully tending to the amazingly beautiful annuals answered all my questions thoroughly and gave positive suggestions too. My husband and I will be back next spring!
