REVIEWS OF E.C. Browns' Nursery IN Vermont

Emily Cleaveland

Beyond excellent service!! Incredible selection. I've met some knowledgeable plant people in my day, but the staff at E.C. Browns' blew my mind. Need a plant for full shade? Got it. Need a tree for a sunny spot by the pond? Got it. Need that rare heirloom lilac that no one else carries? Yeah, you got it. Michelle helped me for nearly two hours, picking out just the right plants for all my locations, and giving me great advice for how to care for them. My yard is GORGEOUS!! This nursery is a MUST SEE.

I bought a plum tree and a sour cherry at E.C. Browns's last year, as this nursery was recommended by a friend. The leaves on one side of the plum tree all started to wilt and wither within two weeks of planting the tree with the utmost care. It turned out that the tree had come with a fungus from the nursery. I kept stripping all evidence of infected leaves off, hoping that the leaves would come back later in the season or at least the following year. However, no such luck. Two months into this year's growing season the tree is still naked on one side, which bums me out every time I look at it. I called the nursery and they told me to cut the dead branches off and hope for the tree to fill on the diseased side eventually. They said that plum trees are notorious for getting fungus infections all over New England, and that this is just a case of bad luck. Well, I wish that they had given me that bit of information before I spent over $100 on a tree.

We have often frequented this nursery and have bought a few small plants in the past. However, this summer we had the occasion to need a full planting for some erosion control. Kevin came to our property and gave us his thoughts on appropriate plantings. We pared down his suggestion a little bit and had them come and plant the trees and bushes. They have been flourishing on our property. We have been religious about watering as Kevin had suggested the all the plants look great. The trees and bushes are off to a great start, been planted two + weeks ago and we expect them to grow and flourish. We are happy we had Kevin and his crew come to our property.

A wonderful rural nursery with real plant people and a great range of plants. These places are dying out in this age of the "big box" stores.
