REVIEWS OF Millcreek Gardens IN Utah

This could be such a great gardening center, but it really needs to be cleaned up. The outside entrance and area facing the street is unkempt. There are dead plants, cheap lawn signs stuck haphazardly in the ground and litter outside the Garden’s fence—making a bad first impression and a predictor of the shopping experience that lies ahead. One encounters old merchandise, pallets, dead plants, empty nursery racks, stacks of pots, and just piles of junk in general throughout the grounds. Plant and gardening supplies inventories are OK, pricing is more toward the high side. It’s very disappointing that Millcreek Gardens doesn’t have a “Green and Clean” business model for maintaining their facility. It’s time for some serious Spring cleaning here.

Dan Farr

I've shopped here many times buying things in bulk and also plants for my garden, home and office. Thom is so friendly and very responsive whenever I have questions. It has been wonderful working with them. 10/10 definitely recommend!

Susan Bracken

I've never had a bad experience, the people who work there are always happy to help and answer questions. I've shopped here for 15 years and love the atmosphere and selection.

Tim Deardeuff

Very knowledgeable people about every aspect of plants and trees. You get the kind of help with loading heavy plants that you won't ever see eat the big box hardware stores. Also, bulk mulch, compost and topsoil is available bulk seeds, potato starts, etc. etc. If you need help knowing what to plant or when to plant go to Millcreek Gardens.

Adam Thompson

This company just replaced a Bur Oak for me after it didn’t grow. I planted it with the help of an employee of Red Butte Garden’s. They took ownership of the replacement and I cannot thank them enough. Support this business!

John Harding

Great variety and very helpful staff! It's impressive how much they fit into such a small area.

Prices are high. They do have excellent plants but I left without buying anything after one of their workers yelled at me in the parking lot. I found what I needed today at IFA. When I'm ready to do more planting I'll go elsewhere. I don't spend money at places where the staff is mean. Call me stupid and you won't get another done of my money. Not another dime. Looks like I'll be buying sod somewhere else.

Michelle Campos

Rude staff

Tucker Smithson

Good people work at Millcreek Gardens and are very helpful. Selection of shrubs is the best I have seen and bought some Japanese Maples from the people that know them. I like it

Christina Fernandez

Big selection.

Brian Holman

This is my favorite gardening nursery. I drove past 6 nurseries to use them while living in South Jordan. With their help I completely re-landscaped my front yard. I am stoked to have moved closer to them and am using them to make my yard in Murray more magical. I find their selection and helpfulness to be amazing. Laureen, the owner, has been fabulous to work with and she trains her staff well and treats them right. She is generous and ethical. I happen to also be aware of her civic involvement to better the community. I am a fan of her business and appreciate her as a person.

David Heidorn

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Todd Jones

Millcreek gardens is "The Place" for all things gardening. They are a little higher priced but have great quality and the staff is always very helpful.

Rene Lounsbery

It's always a Great Day at Millcreek Gardens! They have a vast variety of annuals, Perinniels, Ground Cover, tons of shade plants, Vegetables, and herbs. Millcreek has shrubs, roses, fruit trees, decorative trees. They also boast a wide variety of climbing plants. The best thing about Millcreek is the great employees always willing to answer questions. If there is something they don't have they will do their best to order it for you. Millcreek Gardens also does landscaping. They sell many planters, seeds, fertilizer and everything you could need. They guarantee their plants if you purchase the acid planting mix or harvest supreme, along with Ferti-Lome root stimulater which is a product I love. I hope this info is great for someone looking to plant this spring. Lastly the employees have a wide knowledge of plants so please use them. I will be shopping here from now on. I urge you to visit. Good for Utah....Millcreek Gardens.

This place will completely rip you off, especially when it comes to bulk mulch, soil, etc. I purchased what I believed was 4 cubic yards of bark (>$275). They consider 1 of their Bobcat's scoops to be 1/2 cubic yard. So 8 scoops was to be 4 cubic yards- makes sense, right? Well, when they delivered it, it looked about 2.5 cubic yards. I know because I've went to the SLC landfill on numerous occasions to obtain bulk mulch (where their bulldozer's scoop is 3 cubic yards, at only $30 for 3 yards!). 3 yards from the landfill was still much larger than the "4 yards" they delivered to me. I complained, but the delivery guy insisted, and just drove off. After that, I had two professional landscapers look at the pile of bark, and each thought it was about 2 yards (without me telling them in advance that MillCreek said it was 4). I called to complain, and no one called me back. So I went back there and explained that they were definitely short of 4 yards. They guy had me watch them fill another truck with 8 scoops. I said "Yes, I don't doubt you gave me 8 scoops, what I highly doubt is that your 1 scoop is 1/2 yard". I even did a simple calculation of what his scoop at level would be based on the dimensions of the Bobcat bucket (which was about 65% of 1/2 a yard). So he huffed and said he'd bring me 2 more scoops. When he delivered it, he said "Here! 10 scoops for the price of 8!" in an extremely angry and bitter voice. The math is really quite simple. 4 cubic yards should fill a box 3 feet wide by 3 feet tall by 12 feet long (1x1x4 yards), which even the updated "10 scoops" still fails to do. In summary, take some advice, don't let these people rip you off too. Their plant prices are ridiculous, their staff ignorant and rude, and their math with the bulk material, well, that's not very good either.

Ruth Campbell

I have been shopping at Millcreek Gardens for years and I have the yard to prove it. The staff is exceedingly knowledgeable and helpful. They have a tree guarantee (although i have never needed to use it) and their plants have stronger resistance and health than other plants found at outlet stores. My husband teasingly calls Millcreek "The Crack House" because of my addiction to the place!

Steven Barnes

Lots of help and a wide selection

Aubrie Nutter

Will Schults

Will Schults, Went to buy a peach tree and the salesman was so helpful. He was very knowledgeable on all types and helped me select two dandies. also picked up some lady bugs to help with the aphids.

Lisa Jensen

Millcreek Gardens is my Go-to nursery. Tonight I was looking for the right fertilizer for my front lawn that stubbornly refuses to green up. I thought I knew what I wanted, but thanks to solid advice from Susie and Christy, I found out I would have burned the lawn with the product I originally was looking for. They set me up with a better option. I love this place.

Brad Bassett

I type this review as I have been sitting on hold for 25 minutes to find out if they have the trees I need. The first 2 people I spoke with had no idea how to help. I am now waiting to speak with a third who might know what they have in stock. No luck. 30 minutes on hold for no reason.

Linda Scholl

Huge selection of flowers, vegetables and trees. We always visit at least once during planting season.

Marion Jensen

The Web says they are open at nine, but in the winter they aren't open until ten.

Trevor Morgan

The plants we get from here usually don't produce much fruit. They have a great selection and great products but unfortunately I've never much luck with their plants.

Adamant King

Great selection! Never going to Lowe's or Home Depot for plants ever again!

Val Evans

Love Millcreek Gardens! Always find great, and unique, plants there.

Michelle Cole

Expensive but glad they were able to assist with our old grapevine feeding that isn't putting out grapes. Thank you!!

Tiffany Su

I wanted to love this place given the selections of plants available and I love to support local businesses, however the customer service here has soured my experience where I will no longer shop here. The cashier I encountered was extremely rude. I spoke to Kathleen (apparently she was the manager on duty) to explain what had happened, she didn’t bother listening to me at all. I guess customer service isn’t top priority here. I’ve since taken my money elsewhere.

Leila Mojabi

Sales staff all have a well-rounded knowledge base of all plants including flowers, shrubs, trees, etc.

Salem Prouty

Bought a living xmass tree and the charm of the owner was tossed in free! Skip the lots and home depot and buy local.

Amy Fehlberg

Zac Barr

Manager/Owner was a very unpleasant and rude individual.. When we asked where we could find soil he replied, "We don't sell supplies here.. EVER!" I don't recommend this place because of that.

Ross Holly

Great place and Great people !!!!!

We highly recommend Millcreek Gardens! Garth was so helpful and knowledgeable. He had us laughing as he helped us find the perfect choice for our front yard.

I'm not sure if someone was just having a bad day, but the sales person on the phone was impatient from my first inquiry about ordering a hard-to-find pine. There was no curtesy or politeness let alone any interest in trying to help me out. (I now have read other reviewers' comments expressing similar experiences.) I would love to support a local nursery but after this experience, I will be going elsewhere.

Jennifer McCoy

The employees were awesome, but the owner is extremely rude. Robyn helped me choose Russian sage plants, and because I bought a bunch, she gave me a huge discount on one of the plants that had been trimmed way back. (88 cents!) Then when I was in the checkout line, a woman approached me, looked at my cart and said "88 cents? I don't think so." I told her how that happened, but all she did was walk away and call Robyn on her radio. The cashier informed me that the woman who spoke to me was the owner. I will not be spending my money there again.

Geri Basterash

How friendly and helpful...thanks for your knowledge!

boardgurlie

Very helpful

Barry Froman

Service terrible. Selection terrible Would never go there again.

Adam Hardman

For plants and seed, this place is great. The variety and selection - top notch. The gardener's outside know their stuff, and are eager to help. For everything else like pots, tools, germination supplies and amendments, they are incredibly overpriced, even for a local specially shop.

Allyssa Valdez

Staff was very ignorant and unhelpful when asked questions. Prices were to high. Damaged, unhealthy plants were the exact same prices as the few healthy plants that they did have. I thought seeing this place on the news would make it a great place to start my garden but i was wrong my advice is to go elsewhere.

I'm basing this review after 4 visits to Millcreek--I have used them because I only live a few blocks away, but my visit last week will be my last. Two things I'm looking for at any place of business: service and selection--Millcreek fails at both. First, nobody is ever on hand to answer questions--you can wander throughout the entire premises and either you don't see anyone or they ignore you. When you do ask for some help--every single time in my experience--they act like I've interrupted their important work. They are surly, rude, and brusque--not people I ever want to deal with again--you don't get a good vibe there at all. Second, their selection is pitiful and unhealthy. I was looking for a tree on my last visit and came across many dead or dying trees that nobody had bothered to remove. I guess they're too busy ignoring people. I now make the drive up to Valley Nursery in Ogden, which is about a thousand times better--friendly and a huge selection. Do yourself a favor, avoid Millcreek Gardens.

Becky Cheff

Millcreek has such a great variety of plants, trees and shrubs. The staff are helpful and they even took my name to call me when they received a shipment of hardy hibiscus. So helpful. My favorite nursery for years now

Tina Parkin

They have a fabulous variety.

They are pricey. I came looking for grass seed. An employee named Jon answered all of my questions and helped me a lot with my needs. It was very helpful.

Matthew Hammond

For years now, this has been our go to place for everything yard / garden related. The staff is always very friendly, and willing to show you around or make recommendations. The selection is huge -- If you're coming here for the first time, give yourself plenty of time to walk around and enjoy all that they have to offer.

Alex Lindell

The owner lacks integrity and your money is better spent elsewhere. Her employee sold me a fountain at a discount. I paid for and took the pieces I did not need delivered. The owner decided he had given me too great a discount. He called and asked if I would pay more and I agreed to. Apparently, this was still too great a discount, but no one called to tell me this. Based on this conversation, I spent a hundred dollars and a weekend laying a patio for it. On the day of delivery, no one called me. I called a few times and they kept telling me someone would call me back, but that never happened. I finally had to go in. She, the owner, made me wait for 30 minutes before she would come talk to me and even then made one of her employees deliver the news that they were not going to honor the deal. I could pay more or get my money back. I think it is ridiculous that one two occasions her employees lack clear discounting guidelines, but that is not the big issue. The big issue is that after making the decision not to honor the product I purchased, she refused to tell me. I wasted lots of time and money because she lacked the integrity and courage to tell me her decision. So, please teach her a lesson and take your business elsewhere.

Ângelo Bueno Perillo III

Great plants and large selection, but very expensive.

Parker Bautner

Great selection of flowers, trees and everything else year round!

Patrick McHenry

Great nursery! Huge selection and friendly staff

Jonathan Heider

Great selection, friendly staff. Disorganized store but that might be part of the charm.

Joshua Brothers

The go to nursery in Salt Lake. They have a great staff--very knowledgeable and helpful, even for garden noobs like myself. They have a wide variety of vegetation, tools, supplements, etc, and the prices are typically better than anywhere else. You can also get mulch and nutrient rich soil here in your own trailers. It is my go to for gardening.

Liz Ng

Called to get some information on soil and was transferred to a cashier because she knows pricing. Cashier was not knowledgeable, RUDE, and then told me to just go in and talk to the experts because she had a customer waiting. Well, I WOULD have been a customer, but now I am not going to be one. Quite a discouraging experience for someone who is barely starting to garden, and was hoping to get some pointers from people in the business. I will go to Moonlight Garden Supply, where the people are friendly, experienced, and willing to help out a newbie (even over the phone!). Plus, their prices are better, too! That is worth the extra drive for me!

Ashley Dillon

There is no roof on the seed building which makes shopping difficult. Stopped in yesterday when I had time (it was raining) - could not pick out any seeds because it was raining inside the building and the seeds were covered in plastic. You would think they would close off the building since it is missing its roof and the conditions were very dangerous (water running over the electrical wires and pooling on the ground).

Jim Jones

Prices are OK. Good selection

Misty Sandoval

Bianca Covio

The staff here is so knowledgeable and helpful. Have an excellent selection of pollinator-friendly plants.

Ryan Daley

Sure some of their stock seems sorta stale and the prices aren’t exactly Christlike, but at least you’re not forced to endure the hellish garden centers at nearby Walmart or Home Depot.

Jennifer Brennan

Helpful when I called them to ask a question about my existing tree

Loved the service I received when I was at the gardens, however I just got off the phone with someone who was very rude. The first call she hung up on me, and when I called back she was rude and tried to say there was screaming in the background. I don't have kids and I'm in my silent house by myself, so that is a lie. And on the second call she wasn't helpful at all in regards to my question. I will consider other gardens in the future.

ikro gon

Nice people, I called one day before arriving for my delivery and they told me that if I could get there before 7 pm they let me park there for the night, I got there around 7:30 and the lady was waiting for me. Will deliver again for sure

Bernd Suess

Great service, knowledgeable personnel.

Lars Reber

Great selection and nice place, but way overpriced.

Joe Eldredge

We have had such excellent experiences with Millcreek - their staff is so knowledgeable and their selection is fantastic and I don't have a truck so I have them deliver everything including soil and it is a very reasonable charge.

Andrew Nelson

Very knowledgeable people and treat new to expert gardeners very well. It's a great place for all gardening needs.

Mitchell Frankel

Best plants and veggies in SLC, and smart staff

Judee Rees

Nice selection of everything.

Stace The Wizer

One of my favorite nurseries for outdoor plants and garden tools, pots and accessories. Huge selections of both. Sometimes they have good finds for houseplants too, but this isn't my go-to shop for house plants.

An old lady answering the phone by the packets of seeds is something else! I had a question regarding seeds - she almost snapped my head off! Chris, the owner's son, is far too condescending to be dealing with customers! I bought a herb and the instructions were to plant in full sun, which I did, and it fried the herb. I took it back and showed Loreen the herb and all she could do was give me a 20% off my next purchase! hmmmm their prices were higher than most nurseries already. Live & learn! I guess they lost my business since I was tasked to buy plants for everyone in the office .... and this was just a practice run ... sorry Millcreek Gardens but you lost out! My future business will be with J & J Nursery!!

Tianyu Chen

this is a really good place to buy native seeds. The price is so nice and the most important thing is the quality is very very good. I bought a lot of flower seed here, and more than 80% of them got happy sprouts.

Brandy Bart

Kristen Ricks

Unhealthy, over-priced plants. Half the plants/shrubs we've bought from MG have died within a few months; that was after digging to find the healthiest looking plants. We have had success with their garden starts, however. Now we find most what we need at Smiths Marketplace or wholesale nurseries.

Diane Soule

Nice selection even at end of season. A few sales but not as good as some other places.

Kristin Zaharias

Is there new management? The selection, quality, variety, and service have ALL gone downhill from prior years, and the prices have gone up. There was no one available for help. I think I'll stick with Glover's even though it is a longer trip.

Justin Eggers

Might have liked it more except for the fact that their prices are literally double other nearby garden centers.

Marcia Bond

This is a well established company selling high quality plants.

Maria Drummond

Millcreek Gardens has a beautiful selection of veggies and decorative plants, and I've always enjoyed my experience with thier staff and owner. It's one of my favorite places to visit!

Bryan Phillips

One of the best nurseries I have ever been to. The staff know their stuff. Their plants all look really good and taken care of. Highly recommend buying plants from these guys

Sylvia Scott

Went looking for herbs but they had a very small section.

April Tate

They have a huge variety of plants! Can't wait to get some for my yard!

Justie Klein

The prices were very high. They did have a great selection, but very expensive. The set up wasn't easy either. Need to widen aisles.

Michael Unknown

The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and there are more plants than you can shake a stick at.

Krysti Mason

always a wonderful experience w/ the staff out in the gardens specifically. 2DaY we met chris ~ he's a great super informative, very kind, and just easy 2 walk around w/ kind of guy ~ absolutely was one of the high lights of our DaY :)

Cinda Donaldson

Still have some great plants!

Rachel R

Great selection and amazing staff. Every single employee I past whilst outside looking at the plants talked to me. Keep up the great work!

Chrissie Brown

Both times I came here I've been helped by some of the most kind welcoming employees. Garth and Leslie. They helped me choose the best plant for me, color, description ect. I'm always leave with a smile and gratification.

Rod Haskins

My wife had called Millcreek and asked if they had a certain flower in stock and the lady said they had. My wife asked again for sure : do you have this flower in stock, because I'm driving all the way from UT. County. Again, the lady assured her that they had the requested flower in stock. After driving all that way, my wife finds that they did not have the flower in stock. Needless to say, we will never patronize this place again.

Chad Bennion

Love this place. Friendliest and extremely helpful with knowledge of how and where to place plants.

Kami Grant

Lots of variety! I do wish they had a few more sales but pricing is decent.

Long time customers, ten years plus. We excitedly came in looking for trees. We discovered a combination of apples that were self pollinating, but hoped to find a different combination than was available on the floor. When we asked about what other options might be possible to order, the employees seemed shocked and confused by our request. They took the issue to their manager who could be heard tell the employee, "If we don't have what they want, it's their job not ours to find it." Trees can be delivered to your home from the internet easily, but we always tried to support local companies. Apparently, clearing their inventory was more important than making a phone call to their supplier. Either way, this customer has learned it's my job, not theirs to provide my greenery. I promise not to burden them with that annoyance ever again.

Jessica Barrett

Millcreek Garden service has deteriorated from superb to poor over the past few years. I have not been to Millcreek Garden in more than one year due to poor service over the past few years; however, I stopped in today due to the sign stating "Fresh Sod" and I needed a couple of strips. After paying, I went outside to pick it up. I drove to the pickup place and waited for several minutes. When no one showed up, I honked. When it was evident no one was around, I called their telephone number and no one answered. When I went inside the phone was still ringing and no one was picking it up. The cashier said that she could not answer and the two people talking in the office couldn't be bothered to answer the phone. I explained to them that today will be my last trip to Millcreek Garden... It used to be a great place to shop!

Jessica Vance

The staff is always so friendly and willing to answer any questions I may have. Special shout out to Marisa for always being so helpful. Thank you!

I HAVE SHOPPED AT MILLCREEK GARDENS FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A MILITARY DISCOUNT UNTIL TODAY INCLUDING LAST SATURDAY. THE FLOWERS I BOUGHT TODAY I COULD HAVE BOUGHT AT SMITHS MARKET PLACE FOR .79 CENTS. IF THEY CAN NO LONGER SUPPORT OUR VETERANS OR MILITARY, I CAN NO LONGER SUPPORT THE NEIGHBORHOOD NURSERY. I BOUGHT A PEONY TREE ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PERENIAL PLANT THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT THROUGH THE GROWING SEASON LET ALONE THE WINTER. IT IS SAD THAT THE EMPLOYEE'S HAVE TO SUFFER BECAUSE THE GARDENERS ARE VERY HELPFUL

Eddie Crossen

Huge garden store.

Tse Tan

I couldn’t find some of the plants I needed but staffs are really friendly. Tiny bit pricey & they are closed on sundays nevertheless loved the hydrangeas, snowball viburnums and French lavenders.

Cary Petterborg

Millcreek is a great place for geraniums in the spring, at $.99 each. They have a wide variety of great stuff, including today's purchase of tulip bulbs. Some of their stuff is fairly pricey, so shop around a bit. But their quality usually can't be beat. They are very helpful when you ask questions, even ones like, "Where are the 99¢ geraniums?" We buy stuff there all the time, so yes we will be going back there, and we do recommend them.

Colleen Hatfield

Great selection of trees, shrubs, flowers and all related products. Priced higher than most nurseries or I would have given 5 stars. Also, they failed to honor a 1 year warranty on 4 trees I bought that died. Kept promising replacements but never came through.

Michael Bautner

High variety, high quality. Can be difficult to find some perennials, but any employee can usually help you find what you need

Fantastic. Well educated on everything. Very nice and helpful. Great variety.

Usually enjoy Millcreek Gardens but my last visit was unenjoyable and was overcharged $30. Called multiple times for confirmation that my charge would be refunded and was met with poor customer service and treated as if I was a bother. Good products, subpar customer service.

Glen Sexton

Fair Prices. Great Customer Service. Large Inventory

William Anderson

I LOVE Millcreek gardens. I grew up going here with my mother and grandmother so when I wanted to do some planting of my own, I thought of this place first. They have a great selection of plants at fairly reasonable prices. The staff is GREAT. When I was looking for ground cover for my front plant bed, a staff member spent at least 10 minutes with me giving me suggestions on what to buy. Would recommend to anyone who is interested in buying plants.

Bill Barnes

I come here time and time again because these guys know their stuff. My neighbors constantly ask about my vegetable garden, and I tell them all to come here. They have a great selection, and though it sometimes feels overpriced, I know I'm getting the best they have to offer. These people truly care about what they sell and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. If you get a chance to work with Cinda I believe, you can't go wrong. That woman is a walking encyclopedia of gardening. I highly recommend.

Matthew Jorgensen

I’ve always had great service here and the options they have are the best in the valley. They have always been friendly and helpful. It’s definitely my nursery of choice.

Two days ago, I purchased a tomato cage from Millcreek Gardens Nursery; it cost $7.47 inclusive of tax. When I got it home, it was clear that it didn't suit the pot I had intended it for. I returned it today expecting a full refund as it was in perfect condition with the label still attached to it. I was told that I could only have an in-store credit. I asked to see the owner and the clerk called her on the phone to come and explain the policy. Twenty minutes later, I was still waiting. Eventually, I gave up, asked for a store credit and left. The clear impression was that the owner really didn't care to meet with her customers. There was another person waiting who also had a complaint. I find it hard to see how they can expect to have customers return to the place. The plants are tired looking, expensive, and the customer service is horrible. I will never return... so it cost me $7.47.... I am only glad I hadn't invested more than that.

devon adams

The cashier was grumpy and the prices are about 30-40% higher than market. I'm all about local first but when I see $50 on a trowel that costs $20 down the street for equivalent quality I brow beat the place. Local does not mean markup. We've been here a few times and each time someone on the staff is rude to us in a blatant way.

I live a fair distance from this establish and called to see what kind of maple trees they sold. The person on the line told me they did and to come in and look. I explained I didn't want drive a great distance find prices and what vatriet they had could she tell me over the phone. I was told she could transfer me to someone who could but I would have to leave a voice mail and wait for someone to call me back. :( I now have wait for an answer. I have a limited amount of time. They don't even list what they have available on line.

James Evans

A little overpriced but they have everything

Zek Deng

Bought a couple of trees, paid for the planting. I told them there were two old trees to be removed (planted last year), and they said they would take care of them. Some guy came and did the removal and planting, and sent me a statement later saying I owe them $100. They did tell me if the trees were big, they would charge some money less than $100. What upsets me is that the guy didn't tell me the cost before doing the work so I could have a a chance to decide. They just did it, and send a statement with a number that is completely decided by them without my agreement. The price is ok, but the buying experience sucks.
