I called NY Plantings Irrigation and spoke with the owner, Todd, on a Saturday. I described the project to him over the phone and set up an appointment for him to come take a look at things and give me an estimate later that week. We both agreed to meet at my house, a Townhouse in upper Manhattan, the following Thursday morning.
That Thursday morning, the day of our appointment, Todd called me to say that he needed to cancel the appointment. His reason being was that it was raining and that uses inclement days to get caught up on paperwork. I was disappointed that I took the morning off with nothing having been accomplished. But, I told Todd that I’d call him in a few days to reschedule for another day.
I called Todd a second time and scheduled another appointment with him, again, for a Thursday morning. The evening before our appointment Todd texted me to confirm our meeting as well as to ask if the appointment was to “set a date to install or consult?” He also stated he’d just like to know so that he can be prepared. I told him it was to consult and give me an estimate. He replied back “Great. Thanks”.
Flash forward to Thursday, the date of our second appointment - at roughly 6:30am I get a call from Todd. He informs me that, yet again, he would be canceling our appointment. His reason being for missing this second appointment was that he does not go to customers locations just to give estimates. Mind you this point was never mentioned to me in any of our previous conversations. In fact, I had continually mentioned to Todd that the meeting was to go over things an to get an estimate.
At this point, I have to admit, I was furious. Mind you, this was now the second morning that I had wasted with an attempt to meet with Todd.
In recent years I’ve had outdoor irrigation installed in two other houses. One house in New Jersey and one house in Pennsylvania. In both cases it was very straight forward: I called an irrigation company; they came out and looked at the job; they gave us an estimate; I ran the numbers by my wife and a day later we hired them for the job. Nice and simple.
If Todd had made it to one of our two appointments and I had felt comfortable with him, more likely than not, he would have got the job. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
Now, in fairness to NY Plantings Irrigation: This review is based on two failed - and rather frustrating - attempts to meet with Todd regarding our irrigation project. This review is not a reflection on his actual finished work as, understandably, we did not hire New York Plantings Irrigation for the job.
