This Gardener is included in the category of Botanical garden.
Nice place, cant say its very well planned. Easy to get turned around and poor signage. Great architecture
It’s really horrible the culture that Powell Gardens displays. The roots of the land were once a dairy farm and now their running away a ranchers cattle business. Due to bullying and false claims. The community needs to come together and put an end to this and not support Powell Gardens. I will not be supporting this business and I hope the community unites and doesn’t support them anymore. The right thing to do would be for Powell Gardens to support valley oaks steak company and publicly take accountability for false statements and market for them to keep their business going. Let’s see if they are human beings and do the right thing???
Great opportunity to see so many living species. The layout was awesome. The staff was very informative.
Wow! What a beautiful place to visit on a Sunday afternoon. And everyone there from the staff to the guests were so kind! So many beautiful things to see and the observation tower with that fabulous view, oh my goodness! I see now why people get a season pass! I could go on and on... But I'lllet you go see for yourself!
I've never had a bad experience here. Christmas lights were very enjoyable for both young and old. Fantastic Santa and Photographer! Both were beyond professional, made for an enjoyable visit. Thank You!
lots to see! place is huge! very beautiful
Always a great experience. Don't forget sunblock and bug spray!
We enjoyed going up the tower and looking out over the entire area. We thought being the end of May would be a great time to visit but very little plants were in bloom. I'm sure it was due to the drawn out cold weather and rain, but I think we should have been informed. The Church was off limits, not sure why. Maybe mid to the end of June would be a better time to visit.
A very special place in my heart, my mother’s ashes are in the memorial garden. She makes it a beautiful place to visit!! ❤️
Enjoy the latest Lego display amongst the Flora. Beautiful and peaceful way to spend the day. Also a great Cafe to spend time outside in the garden eating.
Very lovely place to spend an afternoon. Gardens are well maintained and clean. The trolley driver (I wish I had caught his name) was extremely friendly and accommodating. Well worth the drive!
Do it! Go see this place. A beautiful well designed garden. Can't wait to come back, so many different trails and gardens to see. Bring a friend, a book or some paints and a canvas! You just want to sit and enjoy the scenery at every turn! The cafe grows all their food and it's delicious! Vegan and gluten free, amazing staff.
What you all did to Valley Oaks is disgraceful. Shame on you and your entire organization.
A really nice park with some beautiful flowers and nice sculptures especially the Lego ones where they are scattered throughout the grounds. It seems like a very nice place to get married at. The chapel overlooks the pond outside which is the centerpiece of this park. I really did enjoy the walk around here, although you may need to bring sunscreen because there are some areas that are wide open with sunshine.
I felt like a kid again. So many flowers and butterflies!
Beautifully tended gardens. Flowers not normally seen in Kansas City arranged in artistic plantings.
This place maybe a little out of the way but well worth your time on the road. We are already making plans to see this garden in full bloom this spring. If it's anything like It was in the fall, them we are in for a treat. We're anxious to feast our eyes on the colors of spring as this place comes alive with the promise of new life. In addition the staff treated us with utmost respect, wanting us to have the best experience ever. We highly recommend that you take time to take in this fantastic place of beauty, peace & tranquility.
Much less than usual. No theme display, all water fountains non working. No elevator up to the top of the silo. Butterfly auborium was much smaller. Have been attending this festival for more than 15 years.
Booms and Blooms was a fantastic experience. Sorry that this was the last one as it was my first experience. The Lego exhibit was also pretty neat!
We absolutely love coming to walk through the gardens. The weather today is Amazing. The people who work here are great.
Wonderful garden, with beautiful trees and fountains. A lovely place to walk and unwind.
The festival last night was great. It was very hot and humid but the scenery and wonderful music, provided by the Lee's Summit Symphony, made it well worth it.
Pretty but I expected more. The carpenter bees flying everywhere made for a short visit. They actually dive bomb you! They tell you they don't sting but technically the female's can. Scary
Haven't been here since 2017 but miss it so-oooo much!! This place is so Beautiful, with such super nice people!! My family and I really enjoyed the Lego experience, the Dinosaurs, the fireworks... the list could go on. The true draw of the place is the beauty of God's nature, and the kindness we experienced each time we went there. I truly hope that never changes.
My wife and I got married here and the views are absolutely gorgeous. We are so glad we chose to have our wedding here. The chapel is stunning and the gardens made for some breathtaking pictures. The events staff was very helpful and responsive getting our questions answered and providing information. Would definitely recommend having a wedding here. If you're not looking to get married anytime soon, it worth a visit for the scenery alone!
Lovely botanical garden with water features, walking paths, gazebos and pergolas. Attended the butterfly exhibit, it was awesome! My daughter loved it. And, they had a Lego exhibit too, cool builds throughout the park.
Best garden in kcmo.. 1 hours way from downtown Kc. Went there on Halloween we had awesome time. $10 enter free
Lots of flowers, very calm place when not busy.
We took our grandchildren to see the Lego sculptures and the butter flies. A very educational horticulture garden.
We went to a wedding here. The venue is beautiful. The chapel is very cozy and the path is lit very nicely. The receptions was in the grand hall. Also, very nice and cozy. It also has 2 fireplaces! Beautiful for a fall wedding!
Absolutely beautiful. However, they are impossible to get a hold of before your wedding. Plan on making a couple visits in person to work out details. But the chapel is worth it, and the person that manages your wedding the day of is helpful. I wanted an outdoor wedding until I saw the chapel. Thank you Powell Gardens! We got married here in May 2018.
It is the most serene beautiful environment, you won't want to leave just to keep enjoying the beauty that has been created and naturally lives here. I would go again in a heartbeat if someone asked.
Nice place to visit. Love the the events they have every year. Well worth the price for the membership. Great for photos too.
They had a wedding in the chapel so that was off limits as was the indoor rest area in the visitor center, but yet we were still charged full price. Be prepared to walk exceedingly long distances to get to some of the attractions like the barn. There are no scooters to rent so if you have walking limitations you are out of luck. This was our first visit and we probably won't go back.
$10 does seem a little bit pricey for a garden admission in my opinion, but Powell Gardens is definitely worth an experience. It is large and well kept. I especially like the food garden. I recommend attending a special event, such as the jack-o-lantern walk around Halloween time. Make sure to check out what kid activities are happening to make the most out of the experience if you are bringing little ones. Otherwise, it is generally quiet and a very peaceful place for relaxing, writing, drawing, reading, etc.
A beautiful walk around the garden. they have a tram that will take you to different sections to save you a little bit of walking. the chapel is beautiful, the flowers are beautiful ...well, well worth a visit
Staff is excellence in motion! Always helpful, and pleasant, even when being asked the same question by my group of 7 younger children. The staff in the gift shop were knowledgeable and also helpful! Over all, excellent, very well done. The cafeteria was kind of pricey, but the food was good!
When I came here to tour the chapel for my wedding, I knew immediately it was where I wanted to exchange vows with my husband. I came here as a child, with my mother and grandmother. On the day we visited, there was a wedding that had just ended at the chapel. I admired the bride in her dress, and my grandmother and I walked down the aisle together. She told me, 'Maybe someday, you could get married here.' So it was also a sentimental reason that led me to get married here, since she passed away when I was 13 years old. It was a great way to feel connected with her, since she could only be there for my wedding in spirit. The chapel itself has a 'wow' factor. You have to stop and take a picture, because it just grips you. The chapel itself is small, and only fits about 120-125 people. It is an intimate setting. Our chapel was completely full, and the room had such a feeling of energy and love. It was an incredible experience. The chapel feels inviting, and the architecture is impressive. The lines and windows are just outstanding. We had a harpist play at our wedding, and the acoustics were great. I absolutely loved it! Everyone was easy to work with. They set up the space for me exactly the way I wanted for my wedding day. The chapel is air conditioned, which is great. They will take you to the chapel in a golf cart if you don't want to walk the whole way (great when you're in a heavy dress with heels in the hot summer!). They also have a space for you to do some last minute touch ups before you walk up to the chapel. I completely recommend Powell Gardens Chapel!
Went for the Glow festival. It was fun. The kids were entertained for a while. They liked seeing all the different pumpkin carvings. I would have liked to see the gardens more during the daylight
Even having to wait out a mad downpour, our visit to Powell Gardens today rates 5 stars. It is a wonderful blend of wild and manicured spaces. The Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel is breathtakingly beautiful as is the Water Lily Gardens at the lake. Among the best garden I have ever visited. What a peaceful, quiet few hours we had.
Always a beautiful place to visit. Festival of butterflies is always a fav for me!
We spent the day at Powell Gardens walking through the flowers and trees you couldn't ask for a better day everything was beautiful and the weather was nice.
A great place to spend an afternoon getting to see a wide variety of flora. Serene and relaxing. They have a cafe that uses local and home grown produce, or you may bring your own food from outside to save money.
A must see! Beautiful flowers & scenery. Lovely wedding chapel. Wear comfortable shoes, alot of walking. Be prepared to spend a few hours here & bring a camera.
Went for the Pumpkin GLOW walk. The talent of the jack-o-lantern carvings was excellent and walk was an easy stroll along paved paths. What brought this down from a 5-star rating though was horrible crowd management. By putting up additional roping along the path at the halfway mark, crowd management could have been better. Or simply assigning entrance times to ticket holders. Either way, this issue needs to be addressed as there were many angry people due to the mob scene at the halfway point.
Always a great time here! See something new everytime we visit.
It's a shame that this place caused valley oak steak company close down they had the best meat around I won't be supporting Powell garden you should feel ashamed about your self who ever owns Powell gardens
Powell Gardens was one of our favorite places for many years. After not being able to go for a couple of years, we visited again a couple weeks ago. Many changes have taken place since our last visit. There was much more area to walk, more things to see. However, we felt that the general maintenance of the gardens was not what it used to be. Some areas were overgrown, even had dead bushes and trees. Many times we looked for signs to identify plants, but could find signs only occasionally. We actually got confused, almost lost, in several areas, trying to find our way. Always before, we were given a map at check-in, and found our way through with no trouble. There was no map given this time. We also noticed that outside water drinking fountains did not work, and when we tried to purchase water from a machine, it was sold out. We finally found one staff member who directed us to a restroom where there was also a water fountain. We would not have found that facility without her help, as there was no sign at all. It is my opinion that Powell Gardens has expanded beyond its capability to maintain the beauty of what it used to be. And the cost was much more than we had ever paid before. Maybe they should consider less expansion and more hired help.
Beautiful place. Different every time!
Seasonal changes. Natural beauty. Especially if you like flowers!
Nice garden. Should come on middle of spring or summer. The tocket cost 10$.
It was perfect weather and the Lego displays were incredible! We went early in the season, so there weren't tons of gardens ready, but it was still a very pleasant afternoon to stroll with my grandma.
Great place to walk around lego art around area
We had a very nice time and the fire works display was awesome.
One of the finest public gardens in the Midwest. Fantastic attention to detail. Great collection of plants.
My daughter was married in the glass chapel overlooking the main pond and then had her reception at the American Barn. It was amazingly beautiful and the staff were unbelievably helpful.
The Thyme Cafe had a great tomato basil soup with salad, cookies and iced green tea. Fruit and veggie plate for the kids and the guys had some delicious chicken wraps. We spent a few hours walking around to see the many lovely plants and sculptures. The kids enjoyed playing in all the out buildings and we saw a beautiful small church on the grounds, too. We did not get to go on the unpaved paths but they looked inviting. We will have to return without a stroller. We went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit to discover all the plants, knick knacks, paintings, clothing and pictures Frida had around in her day. The gift shop had gift shop loot like seeds to plant, fairy garden fodder, bird baths, lotions, coffee, ice cream, books, toys for the kids, wind chimes, and the like. It was all very charming and relaxed.
Wide open spaces. The Cafe Thyme had delicious and fresh home grown vegetables on their wraps. Great service. We enjoyed the Lego sculptures and staff was friendly. Worth the drive.
Fun place to explore and learn. Went on a tour of the forest portion of the garden and it was great. Good place to show kids about plants and nature.
Beautiful grounds! Enjoyed spending time walking around.
Amazing time. Family love the butterflies and water garden!!!
Another wonderful visit to beautiful Powell Gardens! The butterfly festival is in full swing. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. We love getting out and supporting the great events they have. Our 4 year old daughter had the best time seeing all the Lego sculptures, flowers, and butterflies.
Grat place to let the kids run it out Good for weddings group gatherings
Powell Gardens is a nice facility and over the years we've been countless times, even buying a family annual pass on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, the management/ownership of Powell Gardens is morally bankrupt and we will no longer visit and will recommend the same to everybody that we know. They made up lies and falsehoods which are provably and factual lies to shut down another business. This is unacceptably dirty for a "family friendly" operation. Powell Gardens, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Beautiful place. Can't wait for next spring!
A lush and beautiful 900+ acre botanical garden with many planted and natural plants, flowers, and trees around a lake. Their chapel is beautiful (although closed for renovations at the moment). They have a shuttle available for those who have mobility issues. You can have lunch at Cafe Thyme which focuses on locally sourced ingredients an ingredients grown at the garden. Did is fresh and delicious! Highly recommend a visit!
Loved what little we saw. Misread the closer times and got there this time to see it all. But will return for the tour.
The trolley driver was extremely rude & made horrible LOUD comments regarding my 8 yr old grand son's (noticable) Tourette Syndrome's muscle tics...
Very fun butterfly garden staff was very freindly and just a great place to spend the day with the kids or on a day date
Beautiful place, but they need to have better guide where to check in and get maps or where to find store to take a rest.
I worked here for an event and it's just amazing about 900 acres of gardens and walk paths going throughout
Super friendly employees and a beautiful place to be. My new favorite place!
This is where I will be having my wedding, the event coordinator, Erin, has been SUPER helpful, nice, and very responsive! Theres nothing better than working with super amazing people who clearly love what they do!
One of the best places around to see some beautiful flowers implants! Make sure to bring your camera!
We always love coming here! Our favorite garden in the KC area.
Always a please to visit. All the staff are very courteous. Every time we come back the gardens look different and for those who have kids, there is a fabulous educational kids garden.
Stunningly beautiful chapel! We attemded a wedding and reception there. Very nice setting.
Beautiful family fun, fountains were a pleasant surprise for us to end our visit and cool off!
I LOVE this place and so did my 120 students when we took them on a field trip there this summer! It’s so awesome to see beautiful ecosystems in a world of skyscrapers, factory farms, and manmade infrastructure.
Beautiful, peaceful, serene place to go. Even if it's just a stressful day then this is the place to go. Lots of fountains, waterfalls, flower gardens, vegetable and fruit gardens. Very pretty and also plenty for kids to do. Lots of water to play in!! The cafe lunch was amazing!! All of there homegrown fruits, vegetables and herbs definitely shined in that food. Tomato Florentine soup was the best tomato soup I've ever had. Needless to say I had a great time!
I felt like I came a few weeks too early in order to see the blooming spring flowers. The 3 mile walking trail isn't anything to call home about, and beware, tons of ticks in those woods (I know, they're everywhere).
They are against the Missouri Beef industry and did a fear mongering. If you are a farmer do no patronize this business.
Loved it. We were there during the butterfly festival.
Always nice to walk around Powell Gardens. Love the butterfly collection going on now.
Took my daughters and husband to the Lego exhibit. Definitely worth the trip! The trails are beautiful and well maintained. Different lengths of trails which is nice if you have younger children. We will be making a return trip!
Absolutely breathtaking! Over 900 acres of beauty at every turn! The Lego exhibits are amazing! A must see!
I love this place so much. I took my husband and daughter the for the first time. They loved it. It was super hot that day so we didn't stay very long. I enjoyed it either way though. So many butterflies!
Awesome and beautiful place to go
Nicely maintained gardens and chapel, makes a great day trip from KC.
My aunt's memorial service was held here. Beautiful chapel and Memorial Garden. Very lovely staff helping us at such a hard time.
Festival of lights is definitely worth the $12, if you don't have a membership. The whole experience was breath taking. The warming tent and fire pits were the perfect touch.
It was amazing. Some of the butterflies were just emerging.
It is the last week of July there is no open concession stands and not a single water fountain in the park is working. staff has absolutely zero concern for the health and well-being of the people who pay to come here.
We have a beautiful botanic garden. It's Powell Gardens
We enjoyed a walk through Powell Gardens outside of Kansas City. We were there almost 3 hours.
Beautiful spot to get outside and enjoy nature. Lots of trails and exhibits to enjoy.
Don't go at the end of summer unless you are a huge plant fan. A lot of dead, bare areas.
We've been here both during the summer & winter. Each time, they have had the friendliest & most helpful customer service. We have never been disappointed in taking the 2 HR r/t drive to come visit. The Festival of Lights was such a unique way to make what would normally be a dormant space in the winter, come alive.
Beautiful botanical gardens! Would highly recommend going between the months of March and October before the plants start withering but either way, it was a peaceful escape into nature! The chapel within the gardens is BEAUTIFUl and serene as well! The staff was helpful and extremely considerate, telling us to take our time despite their closing times. You can never go wrong with nature, but these botanical gardens go above and beyond with all the various species and varieties. Highly recommended :)
Very nice. Easy walk not too many hills.
The gardens here are so scenic. A great way to spend an afternoon.
Yes there are some cool things to see. But every time we goto an event or exhibit, we leave disappointed. They charge a premium price for something that's mediocre at best.
Booms and blooms was great! We had not visited the gardens for a few years; it is a great facility but seems to be a little more overgrown than in years past. Hope we can visit again this fall.
Was so beautiful and not even the prime time to go smelled so good and looked so beautiful will come back in June
Beautiful garden with lots of activites. Check out the seasonal events, butterfly sanctuary, and edible garden area.
Beautiful place! Good place to walk and enjoy the out door beauty. Many places to sit down when you need to.
During October Powell Gardens hosts an event called Glow. It is hands down my favorite part of Halloween! There are food trucks, activities, and all the carved pumpkins you can imagine. It is a definite must to add to your calendar. Be warned. There is a ton of people and each year it gets bigger. If crowds and walking through the wilderness at night isn't your thing then this isn't the event for you.
Always a fun time to walk around the gardens and see the LEGOs!
Great place to get some exercise walking around enjoying God's creation! Enjoy it everytime we go.
Absolutely beautiful! We enjoy the gardens so much that we purchased a membership so we can go anytime. Definitely worth visiting.
We love coming to Powell Gardens. This place is truly a Missouri gem! It is so fun for the kids. They have have different exhibits throughout the year. You can really wear out the kids walking through this beautiful gardens. They provide educational classes and feature chefs from the local area dinners. They have a little cafe that is delicious. We went there for Easter one year and the kids loved it. They had a fantastic Easter egg hunt for the kids. It was totally worth the money and the breakfast was great. It's nice too because through Memorial Day to Labor Day we get free admission with the Blue Star Program. This place is so great and worth visiting. You and your kids will love it!
I came from Jefferson city to see the Lego Sculptures which those were really cool, but the gardens themselves were not impressive. Definitely more like a park to walk through than a botanical garden. Maybe its just because the weather has been crazy so everything is in late bloom and not to it's full potential yet, but there were a lot more greenery than actual flowers and things you usually see at a botanical garden. Also, they didn't have a lot of the streams and waterfalls going so they just smelled kind of gross and stale and were empty and ugly. The parking area was kind of difficult to find the right way to go through the maze of roads when you first pull in too. There should be more signs telling people where to go. Bottom line, it was alright and a nice walk on a beautiful day, but nothing to write home about.
One of my kids favorite places. Lots of things to look at and it is very beautiful. Lots of walking but it doesn't really seem that far. You can bring your own food and drinks so that's a plus.
One of the pictures posted in my review is mentioned in one of the reviews as a downside to the arboretum. It is in the wooded area that features many statues. I personally don't find offense to it but some might, in case you don't want to go by it.. We have been here many times throughout the years in different kinds of weather and it still is one of my favorite places to visit on the Kansas side. Plan your trip, look up hours and possible weather conditions. If you are in the wooded areas, expect wooded area plant life such as poison ivy and poison oak that is labeled. It took a while to understand that the maps but we believe the signs are getting better. The garden side is beautiful and well kept with plans for growth. The train area is where they have the most attractions for children, although I have never actually seen the train running, for the $3 fee there are plenty of other things to see. The rules to the place are very clear online, the staff has never seemed rude to me, but I imagine they are understaffed at times since this is still a public place. They have volunteer opportunities and take donations to anyone that thinks they could benefit from better/more help. Plan snacks accordingly as the cafe has a good but limited selection. I got a chicken salad sandwich and a banana once and it was great it was around $9. For photographers, if you are unsure just ask, the rules to photographers are also on their website. I love this place, we've spent an entire Saturday there and still feel like we didn't enjoy everything long enough.
Love this place. I volunteerd for a long time but it really has changed!!! Weeds Weeds
Very beautiful wedding for my step daughter..
Loved this we were there for the Missouri best festival, lots of free samples from food to booze, and everything in between. A real great time!
Great place for a wedding. Need better signage to find stuff. We got lost trying to find the wedding chapel.
The staff was both welcoming and friendly. The facility was clean and well taken care of. The fireplace was my favorite part of our visit. The lights were a little underwhelming but they were pretty. It's a long walk for the light trail but there is a spot about halfway to stop and get warmed up, and pay 5 dollars for a cup of hot cider or cocoa if you're into that kinda price for that kind of thing.
We loved taking our grandson to the butterfly festival.
My Aunt and I went for a visit and enjoyed it very much. Beautiful views and friendly staff. #Powellgardens
Whether you like flowers or not, this a beautiful place with great views and something to see for everyone. It has changed so much over the years, I barely recognized it from the last time I was there. From the indoor fountain and plants to the many varieties of outdoor flora, it is a lovely, serene place to visit.
Beautiful weather at a beautiful place! Couldn't have been a better day.
Wonderful experience. Well groomed. Smiling faces. Huge selections of botanicals. AAA+
Gorgeous as always! The holiday lights are a new feature for Powell Gardens, and a fun way to experience the trails and chapel even in winter. Their activities and festivities were engaging for an audience of all ages with a ~one mile loop.
Butterflies were beautiful and all the flowers even more beautiful!
Lego boys really liked them and fountain.
Been to Powell many times, always impressed with the beauty and variety of the landscape and plantings. The Alice in Wonderland exhibits were disappointing, really nothing more than shabby selfie spots. Hoping the pumpkin displays later this month will redeem.
