I purchased a rose bush and some other plants and manure for planting the rose as recommended by a young worker at Gammonds who turned out to be the owner's son. The rose has been losing its leaves and dying. I drove out to Gammons today to see if I could buy something to help the rose. I told the son the situation..I had removed a beetle, the neighbor has been picking off beetles. He asked me about watering, how deeply it was planted. I had followed his instructions when I purchased it and had done these things correctly. I asked if he was anti- pesticides because he was talking everything but about the beetles. This young man said without a picture he didn't want to sell me something that might not work. So, I walked off and then saw him and said I wasn't happy with the service today compared with my first visit. He repeated everything he had told me previously. I found him dismissive, not rude so to speak. He called his Dad over to explain things to him because he knew I was upset. He then repeated everything again only this time with his Dad there, he kept emphasizing he was not rude, which I had never accused him of. The father just apologized, several times. Off I drove, back home to find 2 Japanese beetles chewing my plant. I picked them off and killed them. So, I will have to go somewhere else to get a pesticide since my rose will die soon from these beetles. Thanks Gammons. I just moved to this area and have a large home that needs plants, shrubs, etc. Unfortunately, my original good impression was changed by poor decision-making on their part. Sad really. I liked the spot but there are others. Reputations are not to be destroyed so casually. Word of mouth is everything in this kind of local business.
