Price - pretty much the best around (call and talk to a sales person to be sure you get their best deal before ordering). Selection is fabulous, check out their website and the detailed pictures and descriptions of the actual guitar - no stock photos. Great people, friendly and helpful. Really Terrific setup for each guitar. My Ric plays like butter! Stand up service. Had a small crack in the pick guard during shipment, they took care of it no questions asked. And they seem to have guitars in stock that many of the competitors have to order (6 month waiting list from Rickenbacker for some models). Highly recommended!

This is a photo of my father-in-law's guitar that he played while he was stationed in Vietnam while he was in the service and he played it for many years after he retired. After he passed away, it was basically abandoned. After many years of being left in a barn, my husband was able to save it from scrap. He took it to Bob Willcutt to be restrung, to have the neck repaired, reattach the back, and perform other repairs. After six days, Bob had completely transformed it back into a playable guitar. Although it was not an expensive guitar, Bob treated it like it was a fine, vintage instrument. He really resurrected a family keepsake. We appreciate his time and effort in this remarkable job. We highly recommend Willcutt Guitars!

Hands down, one of the best buying experiences in my 30 years as a guitarist. My wife and I drove 3.5 hours to check out a guitar Willcutt listed on Reverb, and Stan spent a huge amount of time with me to find the perfect instrument with the tone options I was looking for. He even came in the next day on his day off when I wanted to sleep on the decision. Stan was incredibly patient as I extensively tested several models, and he even took notes on my opinions of each guitar to help me narrow down my final decision. Bob is a warm and friendly luthier who ensured everything was set up to my preferences before we got back on the road home. A stellar experience, and well worth the traveling to work with such informed and caring people. Highly recommended! Update: Nine months later, the Tele Select I purchased from Willcutt has been gigged and recorded extensively, and remains a top notch instrument. I was in the market for my first PRS and got in touch with Stan again as we were traveling through the area. Not only did he remember me, but he coordinated me checking out specific models I saw online while he was off of work that day (thanks to Zack!). The following day he helped me in person navigate my very meticulous list of desired features, and I walked out of the store with another wonderful guitar set up just how I imagined (thanks to Ben!). I am over the moon about this latest guitar. Willcutt is a wonderful shop and I highly recommend making the trip to Lexington to work with these devoted craftsmen and musicians.

Truly a staple of the Lexington music scene. For nearly fifty years, they've offered a wide range of guitars for the best and brightest young upstarts and the ruddy old pickers. Their selection of guitars is unrivaled in the tri-state area, in my honest opinion. I can always expect helpful and knowledgeable assistance while browsing for my next six string. (I exclusively use six string, although they offer different selections, including double-necked.) All the best brands are here, and if you don't see what you're looking for then, firstly I don't believe you, but they also have a pretty slick website which I order from when I am incapacitated and cannot make it to the physical shop. But I suggest that if you are capable, make your way down to the actual store; it truly is a historical landmark at this point, if not in name then in reputation. The owner and his staff are really just a bunch of good old boys picking along, not doing no harm. Oh, and also his daughter plays music good; probably in part because their guitars are so gosh darned good. If you are looking for a guitar, look no further, my friends. This is the first and last place you will ever need to shop.

On 4/17/18 I purchased a Martin 00-28 acoustic guitar from Stan Nickell at Willcutt Guitars. At the time of purchase the guitar was sold to me with a leather concert case that I did not want. I wanted the heavy duty molded Martin case that most Martins come with. I was told by Stan and another employee (who I believe was a manager) that they would switch the case out for me free of charge, no problem. They both gave me their business cards and told me to call them during the next business day. And so I did. At first Stan responded to one of my calls and some of my text messages. But now after leaving nearly a dozen voicemails on their work phones, I have received no contact from them and feel as if I have been deliberately ignored. At the end of the day I got a great deal on a great guitar but am still unsatisfied due to the case. I might be wrong but I think they only told me they would switch it out in order to make a sale. It's not everyday you spend $2500 on a guitar... at least for me it isn't. So of course I want to be happy with what my purchase and get what I paid for. In the end, what is most important to me is the principle of the matter. When you tell someone you are going to do something for them, when you give them your word and say "We can switch that out for you, no problem", I expect it to be done. So that is why I'm disappointed with this transaction. I am posting this review in hopes that they will change their mind, return my calls, and make the situation right by switching the case out. If that is done I will gladly remove this review. Thank you. -Matthew

Why pay that price when you can drive 5 minutes down the road and get it for 100 or 200 dollars cheaper, in some cases more than that. I don't see how they sell anything. Too bad because they have an excellent selection on all guitars amps basses ect. Update: Since leaving the above review a guy from Willcutt reached out to me and informed me that they will match anyone's prices which I wasn't aware of. He told me he would give me a great deal on anything I wanted. I've wanted a PRS S2 Standard single cut in Charcoal satin finish since the first time I seen one. I told him and he ordered one for me and is giving me about 2 to $300 off. I couldn't be happier or more appreciative of their efforts. After spending the summer enjoying my banjo daily, I noticed it might need some minor adjustments as well as my needing a little advice about proper care of my banjo. I brought in an old Fender acoustic to the repair shop to have a few things done. They probably looked at me a little sideways when I dropped it off since I was requesting more work done than it is probably worth, but they were upfront about pricing and took care of it like it was an expensive guitar. The work was done promptly, in fact they completed it several days earlier than their estimate and came in slightly under budget. Mr. Wilcutt jokingly said it was probably now the best sounding fender acoustic out there, but I think he is right. It sounds and plays great now.

And this past week I finally decided it was time to stop by and get my Gibson Songmaker checked out. I have to say my expectations were high and all my expectations were beat.

And the free setups with purchase as stated on their Reverb store never happened, so don't expect that.

I'm an old guy who has owned and played many fine acoustic and electric guitars through the years. I also have experience in minor repairs, setup/ adjustment, bridge/nut work, etc. But, I no longer have the space, the right tools, or any recent experience with more difficult instrument problems. However, I am experienced in diagnosing or recognizing instrument problems. So Rule #1: don't let a well-meaning friend screw-up your instrument...find a professional who has the right tools, knowledge, and experience to solve the problem(s). Recently, a friend of mine brought their beautiful 1991 Martin Custom-Shop 000-28 to me with high action and poor intonation, plus the instrument sounded "dead". The guitar was "dry" with worn frets, the top was bellied behind the bridge, the nut string ramps had been cut very deep (by a friend), and the pitch of the neck to the body had shifted forward...I decided to follow Rule #1. I took the instrument to my long-time friend, Bob Willcutt, since Bob has many years of experience and contemporary knowledge about correcting more complex issues with fine instruments. Plus, I knew Bob would shoot straight with me about what could be done. He described a proprietary process he uses to deal with these types of problems which made sense to me, so I left the instrument with him. Today, I picked up the instrument. Bob had planed and crowned the frets, cleaned the fingerboard, humidified the instrument, corrected the neck-pitch and bridge-bellying with a non-invasive, proprietary process, adjusted the saddle for intonation, re-glued some loose binding, and buffed the instrument to make it shine. The action was perfect and the guitar had come alive...it now plays and sounds like it should and the instrument's owner will be thrilled...I certainly am. In today's world, there are all sorts of people claiming to be experts who offer hot deals on this and that. But, when you have a fine instrument that needs some love, follow Rule #1...hopefully you can find a Bob Willcutt where you are! Thanks Bob for the great work! Bob Sollee - Lexington, KY

I called this past Thursday at approximately 3pm KY time (I'm in Arizona). I spoke with Eric about buying a demo American Original 60s Strat...we set a price and made the deal. I get an email a few minutes later from UPS...Eric got it out that same afternoon! Willcutt first came on my radar, a few years ago, while daydreaming of a CS Strat (I'm still dreaming). At some point I watched the "About Us" video...I called Mr. Willcutt that same day, I told him I would promise to buy a Strat from him, based solely on his declaration of service to the Lord. A couple of hard years passed (in the fullness of time), but it came to be. This the finest guitar I've ever owned, well maybe it 's a tie. I believe in supporting local...I made an exception in this instance and I'm glad I did. It's scary buying a guitar you've never held, but I will not, in the future hesitate to reach out to Willcutt for any of my equipment needs. If asked I will gladly recommend Willcutt to anyone interested in a great deal, dealing with good folks.

If you go during extremely busy times, either be patient, or run an errand and come back. When they get to you they will give you all the attention you need and no question seems to be too stupid. It's perfect for beginners to world-famous artists. After only a month of playing my new Strat, there was an issue I simply went to ask about. Mr. Wilcutt himself took over and called the company, set me up with a replacement.

I play mostly acoustic archtop guitars, and "The Loar" makes some of the best-sounding, affordable archtops -- they're copies of early Gibson L-5s, and I have four. My LH-600 recently suffered a badly warped neck (guitar was caught for a week in a bitter-cold apartment.) I didn't know whether it was even fixable. I'd just bought an LH-700, which is Loar's top of the line, and it is a very good guitar... so I sent the 600 to Bob, to see whether it could be brought back to life. I wasn't expecting much, to tell the truth. Well, long story short, I don't play the 700 now -- I play the LH-600. It sings, and has a "reverby" quality that it did not have before. Bob did some sort of magic with the neck -- it was so warped before, the truss rod did nothing, adjusting the bridge did nothing. The frets are dressed to a smoothness I don't think I've never played before. Playing it is like skating on ice, and the TONE of the guitar (I kid you not) is better than that of the LH-700. This is all amazing to me. Take your repair jobs to Willcutt's. Good people and fair prices.

After much searching I found that Willcutt had 4 of the last 20 remaining unsold 2018 Fender Limited Edition American Professional Telecasters w/ Humbucker & MN in Butterscotch Blonde, and a few of them had the most beautiful grains I’ve seen in on a Tele. I called and made a reasonable offer to Zach and didn’t he waist time haggling as he knew it was reasonable. “My” new Micawber showed up 2 days later and after waiting the customary 24hrs for weather acclimation, I opened the case to find that the guitar was even more beautiful than I’d perceived from the online photos. Willcutt’s photo lighting is great for picking up grain patterns or any flaws, but did not do justice to the finish which is spectacular in person. Only had to slightly tune 2 strings, action is great, guitar is lickety-clean. This was my first ever brand new guitar purchase, and I wouldn’t hesitate to make another through Willcutt Guitars! Your pricing also beat any price I had found, but no one else had the factory sealed basses, untouched by human hands! The plastic that seals the body was still on the bass, I had to peel away. Took my Les Paul in for repair including a neck refinish. The shop finished earlier than expected and looks factory new, it even had the sweet vanilla smell Gibson guitars have new. The set up was outstanding. I highly recommend the repair shop. The store was also fantastic with great selection. Lots of cool amps I had never seen before. The guitar selection destroyed guitar center. This is probably the last great guitar shop in the state.

I want to take a moment to recognize Bob Willcutt and Willcutt Guitars. I recently took a 1936 Gretsch Archtop guitar to Bob to have the binding replaced. The original binding was breaking and crumbling off and needed to be replaced in order to preserve the structural integrity of the guitar. We also had some other repairs to the heel and some cosmetic work done. Bob and his team did an incredible job of removing the old binding and replacing it. They even airbrushed the binding to the correct tone to match the overall vintage of the guitar. They did a fantastic job overall. Their attention to detail is remarkable and I would highly recommend Bob and his team for any restoration or repair work. Thanks again Bob to you and your team!

After moving from out of state, I was horrified to see that my Baby Taylor’s neck had snapped. My Fender Tele was also acting funny, so I decided to take them in. I googled a place, but they sent me down the road to Willcutt and I am so very glad they did. First of all, their store. Oh wow, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I wanted everything and could’ve had so much fun if I had the time to play! Beautiful guitars and only sell the quality stuff. Y’all aren’t going to get junk here. Then there’s the repair shop, the main reason for my visit. The gentlemen working got right to me and I found with the Tele, all I needed was a new chord. Relief! They did try to do the cheaper route and glue the neck to the Baby T, but there was just too much damage, so they called me with the bad news. Good news though was that they had a neck in stock! Wasn’t expecting to get my guitars back the same day, but had them back within a few hours! They even cleaned them up for me and he threw in my string installation since I had to go the pricier route. So happy I found this gem in Lexington!
