UPDATED BELOW... Thoroughly DISAPPOINTED in Ted Lare, and although I normally don't write reviews I felt it was necessary this time. I bought 11 trees from them in April of this year during their Spring Open House event where trees were 20% off. All of the trees were planted as instructed and watered properly (especially during this dry summer), but unfortunately 3 of them are doing poorly. I inquired today about their guarantee on trees, and was informed by Ryan that their one-year guarantee ONLY applies if the trees were purchased at regular price (WHAT?!). The 11 trees were $130 each; with a 20% discount, they were $104 each. So now I'm out $312 + tax and still have to spend more money to replace the trees. Had I known this exclusion applied (it is not stated on my receipt and I couldn't locate it on their website), I would not have purchased the trees when I did, as I only saved a total of $78 off the 3 trees. After being a customer there for years and recommending them to friends and family, I certainly cannot recommend Ted Lare after this experience. I would have thought Ryan would want to make it right with me, but there was no attempt on his part. It is likely that I will not be returning, as they deserve a big thumbs down for clearly putting profit over customer loyalty and future business. ÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷ I want to say a special thank you to Melissa at Ted Lare for immediately reaching out to me after I posted my previous comment. After discussing my issue she was completely concerned with making things right and didn't try to "get out of" fixing things. She made sure we were on the same page and I am happy to post that Ted Lare will be taking steps to replace all of the dying trees. THANK YOU AGAIN for taking the time to make a loyal customer happy. EDIT: We had Ted's come out to spruce up the landscaping they put in, and they frankly did a disappointing job. The newly barked off areas have grass grass shoots even after having to have them out to rectify this problem once already just a few weeks after installation. The new areas around trees are notably smaller than the original ones, likely to avoid having to resteak the trees- So they don't look uniform to the the trees Ted Lare's put in just last year. The bark layer is disappointing thin as well. I'm fine with paying more for a higher quality service. I'm not okay with receiving a product that was skimped on. ORIGINAL REVIEW We recently built a new house and had Ted's do the landscaping a year later. We're largely happy with the service and product. It's worth mentioning that it's different than what we agreed to in a few areas. The biggest sore thumb, a retaining wall they were going to put in is just one level rock edging, it doesn't actually raise or change the grade. The lan escaping however looks quite nice and is designed well. the colors look loverly when in bloom. The service starts with a designer coming out and talking about what you'd like to do to the yard. They write up a true to scale blueprint, that comes with multiple pieces of information on each of the plants you'll use. This service is $100. Our designer was Keegan and I would both use him again and recommend him. We went ahead with the install and everything looks great, they were even able to fix problem areas we had from the original landscaper. The plants they put in all took quite quickly, the trees are beautiful. For the trees, they dig out and til a wide circle around each to give the tree room to root. They topped it with compost for nutrients and double processed bark so that it looks nice. The circle is wide enough that we don't have to worry about mowing around the tree stakes. We previously had an issue with a retaining wall where it was too steep to mow and the wall was already having longevity issues just a year out. Keegan came up with a plan that wrapped the wall around back and created a small garden while also fixing the problem. The workers took their time rebuilding the problem areas of the original wall as well. Another original issue was a rock garden under our deck was already getting weeds so we paid to have a bit of edging put in. They put in the edging, lengthened the tarpped area and added rocks where it was thin which made it look great but again was them taking their time with their product. They basically took their time and made sure everything looked nice before moving on to the next job. We had one plant that wasn't doing well with all the wind and they came back to fix that a few days later.

Beautiful designs, but disappointing on storm water management and conservation minded work. We live near Easter Lake and were hoping to have Ted’s landscaping design and contract a project that would align with Polk County’s Easter Lake Watershed project e.g. a rain garden, native landscaping, a bioswale or something similar that would provide aesthetic and conservation benefits to our property. $100 dollars later we received a beautiful design, but no landscaping designs that would help with storm water management or benefit conservation. After a few months of back and forth, we gave up.

Ted Lare is always such a delightful place to visit. We moved to Iowa a year and a half ago and reluctantly left our beautiful shade gardens there. Ted Lare has given us the opportunity to redesign our new Iowa backyard. They have healthy plants of many of the latest varieties. The staff have always taken time to be friendly and helpful. The displays hold many intriguing ideas. We also got to take advantage of a great sale today!

Super lawn and garden store. If you need it, they got it! We shop there every spring and bring Mom so she can pick out what she wants for Mother's day. They also have a great staff that can answer all of your questions.

We recently had our second landscaping created and completed by Corey. I love color and odd things but was challenged in a new home with lots of wildlife. Corey drew up an amazing design that continued to develop as landscaping began. He is so easy to work with and always hears what I want. Derek has been one of the laborers that has been onsite for the second time but both men were knowledgeable and polite. They clean up everything every day and work extremely hard while on the job. Our landscaping was much larger this time but is absolutely exactly what we wanted! Even my skeptical husband was amazed at the beautiful transformation and how organized and efficiently it was completed. We have nothing for praise for this team!
