This Fruit Store is included in the category of Grocery store.
I love shopping here.
Super, super expensive, staff ok, cramped, homeless guy bugged me for 1/2 hour before staff tried to get him to leave...wouldn't reccomend hanging out there.
A bit pricey, but friendly & in walking distance. Great plants for sale outside. They have a little bit of everything, which makes them a great neighborhood market.
This place has a decent selection of vegan grab and go food. But......this store reeks of dog piss. No joke. Inside and out. Some people have better sense of smell than others. I always found it over powering. I've commented to the store people before, I think it's just a Portland thing probably nothing they can do but leave the state. You really should burn some sage in that store.
I work near Food Front and for a TINY store it really packs a lot of whallop. I honestly love shopping here. Is it expensive, yup sure is, is it worth it HECK YES! Their produce is always super fresh once I bought mushrooms there that were so fresh they lasted a MONTH in my fridge (I forgot about them) when I pulled them out they weren't even shriveled or anything, looked and smelled nice so I ate 'em. The meats are of superior quality and their salad and hot food bars are delicious. The story is easy to navigate and has a good selection of health and beauty products as well as bulk items. I look forward to receiving the collection of spice jars I ordered and going there to have them filled as they'll allow you to use outside containers for bulk products. My review is short 1 star only because the cashiers and building are a little worse for wear. Some of the cashiers are great but there are a few who really ride the line between apathetic and dismissive. I've worked retail, I know its a grind and I let a LOT go when it comes to customer service but there are one or two cashiers here who always manage to make me feel like I interrupted their day with my need for groceries. Also the building could use a little work it's not dirty or anything just worn and sometimes the scent of old building springs up which I don't mind in old houses but is unpleasant when mingled with grocery smells. But if you can push past an old building and the odd cashier who hates life you're golden and it's a great place to shop!
Just like shopping here
Parking is easy. Fast in and out. Nice ambiance to the whole place, inside and out.
Nice store but It's very expensive.
It had what I wanted, I left content.
Good local owner operated store with good specials and fantastic bteakfast hot bar.
There's something special about co-ops over the chain health food stores. Produce is more like shopping at farmers markets because it's way fresher than NS/WF. Generally more extensive bulk selection, including bulk cleaning products. Smaller local company sourcing of things like eggs. Do majority of shopping here and then get a few extras at the other stores. Better place to invest via shopping
Great healthy foods at a good price.
only place I found burdock root
Nice little community store.
Stopped and got a bite to eat it was great and I got a drink LOL
Produce is super fresh! I just wish their bulk nuts were refrigerated!
This is a great little cooperative. I used to visit frequently when I lived in the neighborhood, now I make pitstops for healthy snacks. A family friend sells their Mohawk River Farm organic blueberries here, so I know they are the real deal. :-) Peace, Darcy @DarcysUtopia @YippieChicks
Small selection of produce but lovely tiny neighborhood coop
Casual and friendly, and just the right size.
Love everything here. Love that it's a coop!
My favorite neighborhood grocery. Has a good selection of the basics.
Love this store. I visit frequently. Wide variety of healthy food options and products.
Outstanding little grocery store!
This is very Portland store. I always show it to out of town visitors. Nothing too special, just an amazing selection of highest quality food.
Co-operative grocery stores have never really impressed me; this one has the least. This place is designed to keep yuppies from being able to vacation in Milan: the produce section is miniscule and whimsical, and often requires deft sorting through, whereas the sections selling ten-dollar sandwiches and four-dollar kale chips are prominent and robustly stocked and serviced. To be fair, the meat department is pretty awesome, and the bulk foods are usually a great deal. But New Seasons is just down the street, offers a vastly superior selection, and is cheaper. — and the cashiers don't daydream and lollygag near as much.
Locally-owned food for NW PDX! Don't believe the marketing, New Seasons right down the street may have been a local grocer at one point. But they haven't been majority-locally-owned for years now. Support local jobs, local farmers, local producers. Keep your grocery dollars in YOUR community and shop at Food Front.
It's ok. Expensive though.
Best produces!
Small co-op, but good selection and butcher for size.
The best, most progressive grocery store on the Westside!
An absolute gem. Fantastic produce and amazing coffee!
Staff is a mixed bag of really nice and really awful. Overpriced, with questionable food safety in the deli. Pretty sure if they were hit with a surprise inspection they would fail. They make co-ops look bad. I wish this place weren't so disappointing.
The staff is so friendly and as an owner they have 10% discount days!
Locally owned and run. Great locally grown sustainable foods. Good wine, beer, and cider selection.
Severe food poisoning from here, possibly chemical, a cleansing agent mixed with the food. I haven't been this sick for years. Manager never returned my call.
Love this co-op
I really like the co-op business model. This is a good store with a great selection. Everyone has really been helpful. Check it out!
This used to be my favorite spot for lunch. The pressure from a recently built competitor is definetly taking its toll.
Overpriced and with unhelpful staff. At least it's clean.
They can film the next episode of Portlandia here...
Has definitely improved since management change and after New Seasons arrived. Great for quick trips for a couple items.
I have been shopping at FF for about 5 years and love this place (the produce is beautiful, the meat counter folks are super helpful, Catherine in nonfoods is totally great, the store is always spotless) but make sure you get - and check - your receipt. The sale prices are not often entered into their system and I have been overcharged on numerous occasions. I am a member and support their mission so if I don't catch it, I shrug it off as a donation but this remains an ongoing issue.
Management difficulties plague this Thurman icon, but no other grocery near by comes close to providing local and organic with a dash of funky thrown in. My favorite by far...
Nice Co-op if not a little expensive
A great local food co-op. Also, for the area it provides a great service. The area would be a grocery desert without the co-op. Everything is fresh and the staff is wonderful.
small parking lot as nd street parking tight
Just stopped in for some dinner with my toddler and it was awesome. All organic hot and salad bar, the baby is stuffed full of braised collard greens. Grabbed a local SOMA kombucha, friendly service and very comfortable eating area (i bet its gorgeous outside when the weather's nice. We couldn't be happier.
Support this place, please.
Great little
Nice like biocoop
Lovely shoppe!
We love this coop. We swing by here when we need some midweek groceries. While New Seasons is our main stop, this is a good secondary for us.
Small local grocery store. Lots of local and organic foods. Decent bulk and wine section for a small store.
I expected more considering the location. Limited selection and just not put together well enough to look clean... A bit pricey
Local co-op with lots of organic produce, nice deli.
For such a small space, the grocers here do a great job. Parking is easy. Fast in and out. Nice ambiance to the whole place, inside and out. The deli is outstanding. Try one of their made-to-order sandwiches (my fave--pastrami). Seriously good.
I just love the idea of food co's still serving a neighborhood. It's actually more as though the people are helping each other.
Things can add up quick price wise, but I sure do love it. So will you
Good neighborhood store. I like it. A+
Freshness, great selection, friendly staff
Love the options they provide here. Has that good old Portland community vibe. Super nice people and excellent produce and coffee
Great (superb really) deli food, meat section, staff, and overall ambiance. A worthy local store that has high quality options.
A really amazing store. All the products are organic, and not found everywhere else. Do you remember whether watermelon used to look like? Before it was round or tiny? Yeah, they were 3 feet long, And shape like a kidney bean. It weighed about 40 pounds. This store has vegetables as they were before the food machine changed them Into highly profitable overpriced monstrosities of the vegetable world.
Produce is great and it is always easy to find what I want, but selection is small, and they do really mark up EVERYTHING.
Lost a star from past times there from all the moochers hanging around.
A cute and quaint grocery store with all natural products and very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Been looking for just eggs vegan for over 6 months everywhere bought the last three bottles here what an awesome suprisingly find !!!!
Excellent!
Helpful staff, but there is a bad vibe about that store. If you are an owner, you need to be aware that this small business has operating losses over the last few years amounting to over $1.1 Million, currently is servicing more debt than it can handle, and has severe cash flow problems. Yet, the Board of Directors does not demand accountability of the GM, because she controls and manipulates the members of the Board. In fact Food Front is not being operated as a cooperative, but more like a dictatorship headed by the General Manager. I encourage all owners demand that the board and general manager be forced to resign and that the owners meet and elect a board in a democratic fashion. I also encourage all owners to rally, and develop a strategy to oust all current board members, elect a new board and immediately terminate the general manager, director of marketing and HR manager, and implement a plan to regain financial stability of the business.
Raw Goat's milk. Love it.
Needed a few things to bring home with me after a Nob Hill trip & was so delighted to find Food Front. They had just what I needed for the fresh, organic, meal I was planning without having to drive to a bigger store. Found a new favorite too...local Bull Run Cider...soooo good and I haven't seen it elsewhere.
Cool grocery owned by locals. Prices can be a bit steep, and selection can be a bit limited. But what you can get is high quality, and they use local vendors.
Impressed with their selection of bulk items, everything from neem to cacao to nuts and seeds, recommend bringing your own container. Their staff is helpful and they even sell raw goat milk if you get there on the right day.
Very neat environment. Beautiful Miral on the outside wall. They have a parking lot so you don't have to fight with Portland streets. The location is good. The people are friendly. The food is fresh in the wine selection is good. The prices are mediocre. I like the bulletin board out front and the community field. All around it seems like a nice place to do your shopping. I will probably be back if
Fresh but pricey
Always my go to for a vast array of bulk food items, organic everything and herbs and spices. You could literally make your own homeopathic tincture with the ingredients you'll find in this Food Co-Op.
My favorite store and pretty much the only place I'll buy food. I trust it very much. Always the best quality. I love the store. I'm a member.
Absurdly overpriced!! $4.50 for an onion! Almost $10 for a lame deli Thai wrap. Left without buying anything!
Meh...EXPENSIVE, unfriendly. Not too impressed really. Nice that they have a deli, even though most items are empty soon after supper. Good for a quick dash. If you do catch hot items, usually dry and overcooked.
Lovely selection of breads, fruits, vegetables and other groceries. Funky hippie vibe. Very cool.
Great choices offered for very good and healthy food. Super convenient location.
Great spot for all food you need. They have a Hot Bar, Salad Bar.and rotisserie chickens.
Great local store. Friendly staff
Excellent!
$8 for 6 oz of moldy blueberries is outrageous. EVERYTHING is the store is WAY over priced. Plus, the checkers were very arrogant and aloof, not friendly at all. With all the great stores in Portland I suspect it's the locals keeping this place going. What a shame really. Apparently the area needs a grocery store. Still, with prices so high it was no wonder the store was deserted at 5pm on a weekday. We WON'T be going back either.
Great products, high prices
My home store. The best quality foods I can find! I love our Co-op!
Awesome neighborhood store with staff that range from incredibly helpful to unbelievably arrogant. It's a co-op - the store is there to serve the members (owners first, the community and suppliers (i.e. farmers) next, and then the employees). When I asked about them carrying soda I was met with outrage by one employee who tried to tell me co-ops don't do that. Hey jackass, co-op doesn't equal no soda. Co-op means serving the owners, not letting the employees decide what the owners want. So many great people in this store with a wonderful history. A few employees are making it unpleasant. Employees are delving into politics as well, partnering up with a local rag newspaper to vent their anger. Every general manager at Food Front sucks. The board is all made of of idiots and a-hole. And the paper is right there to share their views. The board ARE the members - it's that simple. Too many employees seem to want this to be, or already believe it is, and employee owned store. It's not. Please stop tell the owners/members what kind of store we want. Three years ago I would have given this 5 starts. Now down to 3 just based on employee attitudes.
Not cheap, but good food
It is the best place to get greasy food
Nice co-op with all sorts of cool vegan items
In what is already a forward thinking and organically minded neighborhood, Food Front manages to still stand out, and may be one of the better co-ops in the city. Carrying a great selection, and a good quality of produce, it would be hard to walk out of here without a full cart of goodies. Great customer service makes this a rewarding experience, and a recommended local establishment.
Good deals nd very polite service
Surprising good wine selection, bulk foods and produce selection is the best
Eco friendly, great service
Useful Grandpa in the neighborhood. Good prices on healthy, environmentally conscious food.
Great healthy food. Friendly staff. It's a really nice neighborhood market.
Be sure to stop by the deli and try the delicious sandwiches! They make them to order!
Hey, I have been a loyal customer for 40 years. They have had their ups and downs with management, that's over now, but their quality and service has never suffered. If you are tired of New Seasons, and I am, go local.
I had a wonderful time in the area in general, food choices are excellent.
I really like this place. Although small, it usually seems to have what I need, and at prices that are often more reasonable than the much larger New Seasons down the road. If I lived closer to the place I would probably join it as a member.
Best in class for bulk foods, deli, butcher and nutrition
After waiting thirty minutes to return deposits, I asked for service a second time. I saw multiple employee's on the floor that weren't helping anyone. I waited another ten minutes outside, and was talking to myself about how their service is horrible. They claimed I threatened their employee's, and threatened me with false charges. I had heard they threaten people frequently, but didn't believe it. This business is extremely bigoted. I shouldn't feel treated like a second rate citizen when I recycle. Threatening people with legal action can ruin lives. This business should be ashamed of themselves and their actions.
I go to food fight about 5 times a week, their Halsey location legit changed my life. Everything I ever want in one spot with some rad folks running the place too. Being in the same parking lot of jet black and Los Gorditos is a def plus top
Little high priced ,little full of them selves,
Good selection, quality foods and a helpful staff.
Love all the fresh local produce and deli counter.
Nice spot for local and high quality groceries.
Yes.
$$$, I have never been to such an expensive co-op. Bought what turned out to be a partly soggy sandwich. I really hope that for an $8 sandwich they would understand how the customers' expectations would be a little higher. I don't hate Food Front for this. I just don't want to pay that kind of money for a sandwich only to throw away a slice of goopy bread and eat my, now, open face sandwich with a fork.
This is that friendly neighborhood Co-Op you've been looking for
This store has great food, decent prices, hot good area, and quick grab ready to go food with many veg options
I love this store! Great items and prices with an authentic neighborhood feel. The hot bar/salad bar is amazingly delicious and fresh, with interesting yet comfortable options. My only complaint is how early their hot bar closes, I think 7 PM on weekdays and 6 PM on weekends..
