I am one who loves to buy local. But just had my second awful experience. Not sure what's up with Tenney Farm's employees but they haven't treated me like a customer should be treated. Working in the customer service industry myself, I would never make a customer feel the way they have made me feel. I went to purchase corn for the 2nd time. The first time a Male employee stood in front of me watching me pull a little of the husk back to check the tops. If they were good, all but one was, I out them in the bag. If bad then I closed it up nice and put back. The make employee proceeded to tell at me that he was insulted because I was saying he didn't know how to do his job. (Which NEVER came out of my mouth). I proceeded to get my bakers dozen, paid and left. Today when I went to get some corn, I did the same thing to the corn. The entire time I was there, there was a man, i assume an employee, watch me look at the corn as I always do everywhere i get corn. It was extremely uncomfortable. Then a woman came out and sternly told me that of you open it you buy it. I questioned this because my family has always bought corn here and we all always open them. She said it again and pointed to a small hand written sign on the window, about 8' from me. I said "what?" Then I asked what if it's bad. The woman explained to me that if you open it you buy it. So I decided I didn't need to buy anything from them, dumped my bag out, put it back and left.
With any other produce most people like to see, feel or smell them. So why can I not look at the corn I buy? Same thing right?
Well I live in town and will now make the 10 minute trip to get corn from Shawn's which is just as good. Also any other farm stand or grocery store allows you to look at your corn. Some even have a barrel for you to put the husk in. I would recommend going to any other place.
