The Seward Coop is one of my favorites and the only coop that I decided to become a member of. They have truly created a welcoming environment in all they do. Keep up the great work. Can't wait until my next visit!

Peter Haeg

great space, great staff, great fresh veggies & fruits.

Wonderful community and wonderful grocery store. Can't praise them enough.

Debelah Taylor

When this place was first being built, I thought in my mind "oh no, not another grocery store and not another co-op." That means I obviously had a lot of doubts as it was built. I stepped in there for the first time recently. My doubts I originally had were proven wrong. It really wasn't nearly as bad as I was thinking. There are tons of delightful ethnic foods that I can't find at The Dollar Store, where I normally do my grocery shopping. I'm amazed at the variety of things. The prices are a little high, but I became a member and got a membership card, and the prices drop when I show the clerk my card. The one downside is that the hot produce isn't always fresh. That means I have to look at the expiration date before I grab it. The clerks are delightful to be around. This is where I'll go if I can't find something I want at The Dollar Store.

Gabriel Hanson

I only buy lunch and produce at this coop, but I love the interior look of it and the smiling faces of everyone! I also like that they have environmentally friendly options for most items.

My wife and I love this store, friendly people, tons of organic food and the bulk area is awesome, but I will recommend to re-paint the parking spaces in diagonal because parking sucks. That small detail makes me think twice to go there or other grocerie store.

Andy W.

I was shopping at the meat counter looking for a particular cut. The butcher was very kind and helpful. Not only did he offer assistance but he went beyond to walk me out to the meat case where there was a very exceptional piece of meat in the cut I wanted - and it was discounted! Nice meat & great service!

Rebecca Bloch

The butchers in the meat department really know their stuff, thanks a million for your expertise! !

Jan Hallstrom

Great soup, salad and hot bar!

I called today to have 30 gallons of jugs on reserve the girl there was completely rude in grocery. They don't reserve. Wow, business. Co op right. I spoke with Manager Ian he was completely sacarstic and negative attitude refused to let me speak with anyone. They didn't provide me with prices either of the 3 gallons or 5 gallons. I have been going here for years. Products are great customer service is awful now a days. I was going to bring business to them now I am taking it elsewhere!! I was completely dissatisfied with today's service. There is other co ops around. Stop supporting people like that's paycheck.

For a small, Organic grocery store, the selection is fine. They promote many local farmers, donate to community causes for the disadvantaged. But, as expected, be prepared to pay more for almost everything. The Hot Food Bar offerings are inconsistently prepared, lacking in variety from week to week, and lean heavily on starches (beans, rice, etc). )To be honest, I don't think their chefs even TASTE the food they prepare before it's sent to the Hot Bar. More than a few times, I've returned home with my Fresh food items to find that they're several days past the expiration date - awesome! Several years ago, I shopped here for almost every day. Now, I find that I only shop here once or twice a week, and don't do so with the enthusiasm I once felt.

Barbara Bjork

Great product, friendly and helpful people

Janet Obrien

Love shopping here. Their prices on vitamins and natural supplements is reasonably priced

Cole Nibbe

literally have never in my life had better customer service anywhere, grocery store or not. every time i grab groceries everyone is so helpful, so nice, so cool, so fun.

Dean B

The food selection is excellent. Staff is generally helpful and courteous, beware of the extremely rude and pushy customers. You will get pushed through the lines here. Liberal elitism at its finest. Apparently eating organic food gives you the right to be sanctimonious. Beware of the parking lot which is total chaos and fat people almost hit you while driving and simultaneously eating. Strap on the feed bag.

Lila Diver

Clean and nearby.

Kaija Wahlquist

Great place to shop for a wide variety of fresh produce and fair trade goods, however the costumer service is another story. As someone who is constantly on the go and doesn't have much time for slow service I found it painstakingly hard to just order a burrito from the deli, with the short line only having me and one other person ahead, I found myself waiting for 15 minutes just to place my order, while the deli associate was chatting for a solid 20 minutes to the lady in front. I had zero acknowledgement as I was waiting for them to be done chatting, I had to get back to work so I ended up leaving without buying anything. Please start training you workers to be courteous and professional as I am not so keen on this nonchalant, unprofessional, young, hipster attidude that seems to be plaguing co-ops in the Twin Cities everywhere. Professional and quick efficiency is all I ask for in the future.

Joe Morris

Very impressed with the GF selection and prices (for a co-op). GF options in the bakery and food bar as well.

Garrett Peterson

Great produce selection, deli counter, cheeses, hot food bar, and all your essential grocery items (and pretty good selection of beauty products, health, and supplements). It's definitely not as cheap as Cub, but the coop generally stocks organic and ethically sourced goods, as much as possible. It's a community-owned coop. Anyone can purchase a share which entitles you to quarterly discounts, an end of year dividend (if the store is profitable) and a vote in board elections. Also the workers are finally unionizing; another plus.

Marlys E Nygren

They have a wonderful selection and variety of items and foods to choose from. So enjoy going there.

I am just responding to Claire Vanetta. You clearly have never spoken to Scott, he is one of the friendliest guys in the whole store. Try saying, "Hi Scott, how is it going?". You will find that when people are in the service industry, and they are busy, they sometimes just put their game faces on and try to work as fast as they can. They are just trying to get people through the line as fast as they can. "Member number", is just his way of getting the particulars out of the way, then moving on to your order. He doesn't forget to ask that way, and members will get the full dividend they have coming to them. I see that the other review you left was also negative about the people working. I would like to come to your work, at the height of your day, and see how friendly and helpful you are. If you have never worked in a service industry job, try it out. Otherwise, just say hi and consider what is going on around you. Look and see if the line is really busy, or maybe it is just winding down from being real busy. Either way "Hi" and a smile can go a long way. BTW, I laughed out loud when you called out Scott by name, I have been going to Seward for almost three years, he is one of my favorites.

Co op check out clerks asks customers if they'd like to round up for local charities however when asked how much of it goes to charity they can't provide anything other than some stock cheesy generic brochure with no breakdown of funds not even administrative cost and in a corporate corrupt world we live in transparency should be up front when asking customers for their hard earned bucks even if it's nickels and dimes that can add up in the tens of thousands maybe more unnoticed. Also the task of finding out should not be on the customer .the co op is asking for money have info up front PERIOD

Gary Morgan

The Seward Co-op has one major problem that I don't think it will ever resolve: it's too far away from my home in Loring Park. The Seward is, buy far, my favorite co-op in the Twin Cities. I live just a few blocks from The Wedge, which I acknowledge is the Granddaddy of all co-ops in town. Unfortunately, the parking (PARKING IS NUTS AT THE WEDGE,) crowds and tight aisles tend to stress me out. For the most part, The Wedge and The Seward carry the same things. But it's SOOO much more pleasant to go to The Seward. When it's on the way, I always prefer stopping by The Seward. For the record, my wife and I are members of both co-ops. The one area for me where The Wedge excels over The Seward is in it's bulk nut butters. I know that The Seward gets their seafood from Coastal Seafoods. That's a bonus for me because that's one less stop I need to make. I think The Seward is a model for other co-ops because of quality/selection of items, environment, and convenience.

Jacqueline Johnston

The quality is top notch. Best grocery store in Minnesota! Worth the higher prices. The smoothie/coffee/sandwich bar is amazing. I like the Arctic Kiss smoothie and Mock Duck Ciabatta. The hot foods bar is just okay. The cold ready made food is also delicious! I like the vegan kheer, vegan cakes, vegan chocolate pudding, and all of the cold dishes I've tried-- sesame noodles, Somali and Ethiopian spiced vegetable dishes, couscous and cashew salads, etc.

Nancy Negrette

favorite place to eat lunch

Ethan Harris

Could not be better. Fantastic organic produce, nearly all of which is locally sourced when available. Don't overlook the fantastic meat department, top-notch local, domestic, and international cheese offerings, and great bread sourced from Rustica Bakery daily! I could go on. Maybe I will. How about the great bulk offerings (bulk honey! grind-your own nut butters!), a host of naturally-sourced cosmetics and personal care items, and a massive array of ready-to-eat offerings to boot. Please don't complain about the prices. Yes, you are paying more than Wal-Mart but certainly are not being over-charged for anything in the store for a host of reasons that I shouldn't need to expound on here. Happy shopping, friends!

Staff is great and the store is laid out nicely. I am a member of this coop, but something is lacking. Prices are higher and a few things are missing that I need. The food bar foods are usually disappointing, not bad, but they miss the mark on taste frequently. Spicing is just off slightly, but it's ok. Tastes are available and I do recommend before buying. I still recommend going there, but be prepared.

Nice to see community supporting good initiatives like Seward. Apart from having very good supplies for sensible consumers, Seward also has a great deli. Do your shopping and then stop for a good bite to eat (pay by weight). They have options for various types of diets as well.

This is a great Co-op they have good lunch specials and indoor seating where you can sit and enjoy your lunch. They also have a wonderful selection of fruits and vegetables and you can buy bulk herbs and spices. They also have a great cheese counter and meat department where you can get grass-fed Meats smoked fish and homemade sausage and brats.

Staff is super friendly. They do a great job putting emphasis on small and local producers. I trust the products they carry. Also, the house made sausages are amazing!

Alec Uspensky

Friendly and helpful staff; good selection of organic, gluten-free, or vegan food

Jenell Holden

I love being able to sit by the window and enjoy a vegan lunch that doesn't cost a lot and the environment is peaceful

Jacquelyn Ridings

Deli customer service sucks! I was on my lunch break I decided to wait by the counter patiently & out of the way of others. There was one person making the food and others just standing around talking instead of helping. Then on top of it all, I overheard this person say to the other employee that I was giving her the "stare down" because I decided to wait. Overpriced food & rude employees.

Greg Gilquist

Checking hours on a Sunday morning...reading reviews, rude employees? This place is food nirvana, and the people that work there love being there for the most part. Seward Coop along with the central and south Minneapolis areas it serves is the heart of low impact, simple, locally energetic and globally minded living in Minneapolis. Complaints and concerns are met with feedback on their message board. They offer affordable name-brand organic products that will be competitive with buying them at Super T*****. And again, the employees are beyond awesome and people watching here is a rewarding experience, as if buying great food wasn't enough.

Katja Amyx

I love Seward co-op. Excellent produce, meat counter, deli. The staff are both helpful and very knowledgeable. Plus great coffee to round out the set.

Liz Spohn

I have been shopping off and on at seward co-op. I am not a member but it is there when I need milk, and great rye bread. I love the choice of cheeses. I also like the hot food you can eat there or take out, the coffee shop and bakery. Everyone is always friendly. The guest servicer offers me the ability to add to my to go card for the metro bus and that is nice. If they can't help you they will find someone who can. Is it perfect...no but I have been going top co-ops for a long time and they really come a long way from the co-ops in the early 70's. :))

I was just reading a couple reviews and noticed the comments regarding rude employees and just wanted to say that definitely has not been my experience. Perhaps on an early Sunday morning, I have less than super pleasant customer service, but it has not been the norm for me. Most of the time everyone is helpful, looks you in the eye when they talk, friendly and outgoing. The employees are one of the main reasons I like shopping here. High prices are the only reason I don't do the majority of my shopping here. Everything else is great and their coffee/juice bar is a must try.

Found what I needed. Didn't feel welcome though. I am not the type of person who they are used to seeing I guess.

Dale Brose

City Co-Op. Good selection of the standards you would expect. Food bar an bakery (vegan and GF) is probably the best I've found in the metro. Coop is very community involved.

Melissa Kaneakua

Delicious salad and hot bar! There's always tons of nutritious options for on the go meals and the workers there are polite courteous, and extremely helpful. The only suggestion I would make is that they have more kid-friendly food options in the hot bar selection because I've noticed on more than one occasion, parents looking defeated that they can't find something for there kiddo to eat but other than that, everything is AWESOME.

It's easy to complain about a co-op. I have been here four times over two years and my experiences are all similar. 2 things make this the worst grocery experience you can have in this city. 1. The employees are extremely unhelpful and honestly seem bothered if you have a question. 2. The deli is unsanitary and always half empty. I think people shop here so they can pat themselves on the back because they are buying a misshapen carrot.

Jim Young

Very busy after work but well staffed. Almost no wait to checkout.

Jacob K

Just your average overpriced coop that caters to the rich outside community rather than the local community and pretends to "give back". If you're poor they offer a 5% discount everytime you shop. If you need boogie food, go to the wedge. The wedge will give 10% off if you're poor so it actually makes it a bit more affordable.

jimblargh

Great food, people are very authentic and nice. Welcoming place. Can't recommend Seward Co-op enough!!!!!

Andrew Sean

Spendy, as with most co-ops. Overall okay for specific foods that you can't find it elsewhere.

We tried. God speed

Theodore J. Stonich II

Horrific Illiberal Counter-Counterculture hellhole. Everyone is visibly mean even when they are being "nice" and in your business every time(head games), seriously, it's really like that. Mostly creepy idiots that moved to town to pretend they are advanced so they can stick it to everyone back home. Everything Minneapolis was never meant to be.

Ness Foster

Good people good environment and mission

Gust Johnson

Great choice of good local organic food, fair trade products and a good bakery. The prices are too high, the Co-op continues to make money, so lowering prices would make me want to shop there more, and allow those with lower incomes than mine to shop there. The help is usually crabby and distracted, bordering on rude, and in an unscientific poll of my peers and some neighbors, they concur that some friendliness and not the imperious attitudes often encountered by the staff at Seward COMMUNITY Co-op would entice us to do more of our shopping there. Most of the staff would benefit from lessons in politeness.

Tom Albrecht

They carry Four Winds Herbal Look No X Ma soap, which is great for sensitive skin!

Seth Spychala

Great food great people

Paul Janssen

Customer service much improved over the last time I was here. The hot bar is fabulous today. Eat the Black Beans Abuela, best I've ever had.

Russell Garcia

I love this store and I've always had great experiences here! Great selection of produce and food items. Service and layout are excellent!

Sung Hwan Cho

Great selection of fresh food and tasty hot-bar and deli menu

Melissa Lehr

Their bulk foods are wonderful! Lots of selection, organic options, and reasonable prices.

Lou Vikler

Terrible customer service. I was not greeted, much less even acknowledged by Eric T. As he rang up my items he didn't skip a beat as he continued his conversation with a female employee, stopping only to say "Number" and looking at me expectantly. I will avoid Eric's line next time, but I hope this is not a typical interaction from this coop.

Sue Ann Martinson

I was looking for an article that appeared in Sprout some time ago. I never found it although I went through all the archives. So, I found there was no way to search previous Sprouts unless I opened each one. I found some interesting recipes and information, so I guess it was worth it. But I still did not find the article, which was about toxic plastics and was probably the most informative article Sprout ever published. Unfortunately I also saw a trend away from helpful information toward just selling, selling, selling. Although it is done tastefully for the most part, I did not like it. I don't read Sprout as closely as I used to. And most of the recipes I found and copied were in the older issues. Also tried to copy the recipe in the current sales brochure, brussel sprouts and pomegranate seeds, but it is in a .pdf so I will have to waste a lot of time either copying it or converting the .pdf so I can get the recipe. I no longer use paper copies for my recipe archive. It's all online. Then I tried to register as an owner, thinking maybe you had a contact section there, you know the standard "contact us" but I tried two different emails but it would not accept my registration. Then I got interested in the Friendship store and googled it. Your social media around the Friendship store is sorely, sorely lacking, all the way down the line. I was going to write a review, but couldn't get the function to work. I will not stop shopping at Seward. It's a wonderful coop. Recently I took a 96 year old friend in and she just could not get over it. Her first comment was, "This is wonderful." I also like the Friendship Store. The staff has been friendly and very very helpful. They are missing a few items that the Franklin store has, but overall the selection and layout is good. And I am glad to see they are being used. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I think Mississippi Market could take a few lessons from you in promotion of a new store, as their new store in St. Paul is not doing so well, I understand. (I have a friend who lives near there and have been once, and she it happy about the store, but even more than me is a multiple coop shopper. She often shops at Seward.) The store is nice.Just fine. But I was on Maryland Ave. and drove by the Harvest Market and the parking lot was full. Someplace I have a copy of that plastics article. I did save it. Just to find it!

Jessica Franken

I feel so lucky to have the Seward Co-op in my neighborhood. Their produce, dairy, and bulk sections are top-notch and the deli and grab-and-go foods are consistently excellent. They give back to the community in many ways, and everyone who works there is incredibly nice.

JOSE Zepeda

Awesome place to go grocery chopping!! Very friendly staff Good products I can't ask for more!!

Amazing place to be at! I fell in love with this store the very first day I walked in a few years ago. One of my favorite places in the Twin Cities.

I like the Co-op, but with how regressive their approach to labor organizing is, it kind of makes you realise that, to them, "progressive" is just a brand.

Kate Bee

Member for years I get basics and sale items. My greatest disappointment aside from being asked to round up at checkout is the low quality sandwich bread used here on sandwiches, it is simply tasteless, so I recommend skipping the sandwiches. Note that they also charge 5 cents per bag so it pays to bring your own bag and any bag will work!

Sarah Brown

Glorious Elliott

I love the Seward co op it has healthy options and fresh food that is organic and hard to find in other stores.

Tom Guelcher

One of my favorite deli's in the Twin Cities. Every chicken dish is amazing, and their mustard pork is out of this world. They have a really nice dining facility, the whole store is neat and clean and the cashiers are always very friendly. They have a pretty good selection of food but I do have to say they are quite expensive as most coops are, and the no left turn out of the parking lot ( in order to respect their neighbors) is a little bothersome for me since going right adds 5-7 minutes on my commute back to work.

Jennifer Medina

Unfortunately, their customer service was the worst I've experienced at a health food store. David in the meat department was particularly unprofessional when asked for help in the cheese department. He stated "no one is here that knows about the cheese department." No further help was offered. Would not recommend this store.

Tom Wilson

The produce section is wonderful: it puts Whole Foods to shame. I find everything I need here without having to navigate aisles of processed foods. It's also a great place for a quick, tasty lunch.

My coop for many years, great selection and friendly bunch!

Mark Lynch

A nice little spot that was very friendly and high quality food that was obviously made with love. I would have gave it 5 stars but i would really have liked to see a few desserts and a main dish like steak frittes to go with their delicious French fries. Lastly i didn't like that I wasn't able to tip, such nice polite people deserve a little something extra if they are giving me exceptionally good friendly service.

Edward Sims

Clean store and great selection of produce. The produce is always really cheap and good quality. They always have good deals. Good selection of meat and fish and great prices.

Kyle Gallagher

Superb service... Could be the most spacious co-op!

Sophie Sampson

I've been going to this co-op for years! Love the option to prevent plastic waste, love the food at the cafe, and all the quick healthy options!

Chesney Engquist

Slow Friday morning at the co-op, nice time to visit the store... I thought. Then another all too frequent reminder that customer service is not a priority at this establishment. This morning, stood in line for 5 minutes or so while both 10 items or less registers where vacant and staff members were unoccupied. Seeing no other customers approaching any line, we pulled our cart over and began unloading our groceries in the vacant express line. When our transaction was almost complete another customer approached to checkout. Manager on duty, Amanda directed the customer to her register and began openly talking about me and my husband to the other customer. After the tens of thousands of dollars my family has spent at this store, I really can't understand why staff would be so extremely rude - rather than facilitate a more convenient transaction when the capacity to do so was apparent. Time to shop somewhere else - where staff are encouraged to provide quality service and interact positively with customers.

One of my absolute favorite places in the cities. I've been a member for a little over a year, after shopping for 6 months without a membership. Everyone I've encountered that works here has been incredibly friendly and genuinely interested in helping with any question. I'm pretty low-key, and like to keep to myself, but really appreciate the enthusiasm for the community in this building.

I love the store. Always well staffed with friendly helpful faces. But the days of old school cool co-ops are long gone. I remember when co-ops were about buying mass quantities in bulk as a group (read cooperative) to save money. The current "Co-op" motto may as well be a Whole Foods- price things as high as the market will bear. The modern day food co-op has become nothing more than another corporate machine, hungry for the almighty dollar.... Bulk items marked up over 300%- That doesn't seem neighborly at all... How much profit did the Franklin store post last quarter?? Yet we have people all across our community that cant afford a bite to eat. There's a whole encampment of homeless blocks away and the elitist are buying their 500% markup Chai latte and rounding up their change to feel better about it. I think CO-OPs can still make a difference in our communities but I feel they have lost their way.....

Andrew Ervin

As good as it gets for produce - the most beautiful array of vegetables and fruit that I have found. Prices are higher than traditional grocery stores, but the high quality is well worth it. Good selection of other items. Some of the best specialty ice creams to be found. Outstanding salad bar. Very good sandwiches made to order (but be aware that there can be a wait). Same is true for their fruit and juice smoothies. This can be a very busy place on a Saturday - allow time to wait at the cash register. The seating area can be quite over run on a weekend - no guarantee of a place to sit. Parking lot is too small for this busy operation, requiring staff to direct traffic at the busiest of times.

Good place to have lunch or dinner!

Deli is disgusting! Overcooked, dry... yuck. Taste it before you purchase! The rest of the store caters to bourgeois white people. Low income families cannot afford this place. Many staff are arrogant and rude. They claim CO-OP status but they are not. Member ideas are NOT heard EVER. Hmm, there's got to be something good... but what? Hmm. Um, they make a lot of money? They ALWAYS ask you to round up? ... Do a little digging about where your donations go! You will not be happy. Think all those poor and homeless people get offered some good organic food? They don't. Dig around. You might be as surprised as I was. My eyes are open now. This place is a fraud. Ask yourself: This place pulls in how much money? They got money coming out of their ears but NEVER give it back to the members. I might be okay with forfeiting my annual dividend IF it was given to low income families or they lowered the prices but it isn't/doesn't. Sad, sad day when "CO-OP" no longer means "co-operative" meaning FOR THE PEOPLE. This place is FOR THE PROFIT.

Seward Coop is the best. Don't go here if you are looking for organic Doritos or any other brand names you recognize, and keep an open mind about new things! Great selection of bulk items including protein-enriched flour, nutritional yeast flakes, tea, etc. The prices are a little high compared to what you're probably used to at Cub or Rainbow, but for some things - like tofu - Seward can actually be cheaper since it's not so specialty. Definitely a must-see coop if you're into that scene :)

Good people, but rather pricy and a free parking spot can be hard to come by. Plenty of bike parking though.

Best co-op!
