I would be absolutely lost without Johnny's. The stretch of Brighton, from St. Elizabeth's to Newton Corner, and in all surrounding directions, is a fresh food desert without him! He's happy to get you anything you need with a day's notice. He's up and at the produce market by 4am every day. Great guy... wonderful crew of helpers... some who have been working there through high-school, college and now married with kids. Wonderful neighborhood staple!

You can buy what would be $100 worth of groceries at a chain grocery store for $20. Best produce in Boston. Everything is fresh each day, straight from the farmer's market but heavily discounted. There is a dollar shelf where you can sometimes get entire meals for $1. The owner is the nicest guy in the world. Not to mention the store is absolutely beautiful!

GREAT PLACE. Cash only but has the best prices around for fruits and veggies. They employees are wonderful, helpful, and kind. I love stopping in here. They often have good street deals as well as 1$ bags if you’re on a budget but still want to eat well!

Johnny always has a wide selection of produce with a few special items: perfectly ripe peaches or berries. His bargain shelf features super-ripe items that can be purchased for $1 but must be eaten today. The produce at Johnny's is consistently better than you can get anywhere else because it's chosen by Johnny himself and sold the next day. At a grocery store, you get produce that was delivered by contractors to a warehouse and then shipped to the store. Sort of like the difference between a home cooked meal and fast food. I'd say the best part of Johnny D's is Johnny himself. When you come in, he greets you with a smile and a few warm words. If you want suggestions on what's good today or how to cook it, just ask. And if you need something special, just ask a few days early. Johnny will get it when he goes to the produce markets (or tell you why it's not in season now).

They have the freshest produce! Everything there is delicious. The first time I came here the owner gave me a slice of the freshest peach I’ve ever had! It’s very affordable, and there’s discounted items that are slightly older, but fine if you use them right away. It is cash only, and not open on Sunday’s, but definitely worth the trip!!!

If you're a local, make Johnny D's your go-to for produce. Big chain supermarkets just don't have the right stuff in their produce isles- here you can get local grown, fresh and delicious veggies at a better price, surrounded by a better community. Right next door is Daniels bakery, so you can get fresh bread too and make some feel-good meals.

The produce here is gorgeous, and you can tell that Johnny and his staff personally checks each piece of fruit and every vegetable as it goes onto the shelves. I truly was a kid in a candy store, buying spaghetti squash, zucchini, cucumbers, sun-dried tomatoes, spring mix, scallions, and of course the strawberries - all for $14. This place is a must try. At this point I can't even think of shopping anywhere else for my produce.

Johnny's is a treat. An old-time small green grocer who gets to know all his customers. It's a small store but the produce is very attractively priced and he has a "sale table" every day for the stuff that really needs to move. I try to get all my produce here first and then back-fill from the supermarket as needed.
