This is a grocery store that I wish everyone in Chicago had access to. This place is amazing. It like other Skokie establishments are a melting pot of cultures. This is evident in the goods they sell but also with the customers. You can literally shop and have 6 or 7 religious or ethnic groups there with you at the same time. Good sized parking lot. You'll need quarters to borrow a cart. Excellent and inexpensive fruits and veggies. If you are into spups, shakes, and smoothies they always have movable carts with late stage fruits and veggies dirt cheap great to blend up soups or smoothies and freeze same day. Excellent meat selection as well as fish. Inexpensive chicken. Deli is awesome with great cheese selections and meats for sandwich fixings. The aisles are full of goods from around the world. The prices are ridiculously reasonable. Clean store with friendly staff who have always been polite and ready to help. Seriously, go to a major chain retailer. Keep your receipt and buy the same here.....its almost painful how much you save here.

I also bought organic honey for $5. Not bad! Not to mention the large selection of cheeses. This store has the russian caviar and polish candy"Korovka" (my favorite). I Love to shop here! I used to live in Skokie and would visit this place all the time (since they were up the street at their old location more than 15 years ago). They have fresh fruit and veggies at low prices all year and a large assortment of international foods. I do buy lots of produce when I'm here, but I come here for the meat and deli department. Since I moved to Highland Park I realized how expensive food can be from one town to the next. In Highland Park a pound of cream cheese with lox runs $13-$15 easily. Here at Oakton Fruit Market, the price is $4.99 lb and so much better in taste. They also sell small pork sausages at a steal of a price. Those have been a staple in my house forever and are the best tasting. I almost don't want to mention it in my review just so they don't run out of stock when I get there lol. I know there were a few poor reviews about customer service or a lack of organic selections, but customer service is great and this is not a large full scale grocery store so if you're looking for a bunch of organic farm raised blah blah blah then go to Whole Foods.

I just shopped on Saturday and purchased about $15.00 dollars worth of chicken wings, when I opened them on Sunday they were spoiled I took them back right away, the owner was called to the front as soon as I explained the reason for the return he made me feel uncomfortable for returning the meat and acted like it was my fault, leaving me stand for 5 minutes at the front of the store while he went back to the meat department, on his return he said they would not refund my money and would only give me a store credit that is their policy... this is the second time I have purchased spoiled chicken and I was treated the very same way the first time, I guess I should have not returned to shop again. I just expected better treatment from the owner, I know he does not need my business...he let it show. I have been a regular shopper there for 15 years I do not understand why it so hard to return the obvious, why was it so hard for him to own it?

You can't find many quality, local grocers like this any more. This is a true hidden treasure in the heart of Skokie. Great produce selection, wonderfully varied deli selections including all sorts of ethnic meats and cheeses, and some surprising imported packaged goods. I regularly find myself drawn to everything from fresh baked goods from local bakeries to kosher condiments to frozen ready-to-bake appetizers.

Love this place with all of it's stuffed shelves of international goods and it's large produce section with it's neighborhood feel because of it's smaller size. Your in and out in no time and staff remembers your preferences. For us, they remember the samples my kids like to try every time in the deli section and that we don't want plastic bags. Its close to bus and train but also has a large parking lot. Go give it a try!

It has been a long time since I have shopped here. You use to have to walk a maze through the fruit and vegetables. Now its nice and opened feeling when you walk in through the doors. I was disappointed that I couldn't find avacado. They added a another section freezer elongating those aisles. However their prices are bit higher then other stores.

Fresh Market was one of my favorite grocery stores, near my home, to shop at for various reasons: the variety & unique food/groceries, fresh produce, the deli, and lastly friendly customer service amongst most employees. I arrived late afternoon/early evening today(Sunday, May 19th), so Fresh Market was understandably busy. When I arrived to the deli area (one of the main reasons I shop there, as there aren't any grocery stores, walking distance from my home that have a sufficient deli) the two young ladies behind the counter were waiting on the one gentleman ahead of me, so I took a number from the electronic number print machine and began to wait. Again, there was no one else other than myself & the gentleman the two young ladies were already waiting on. Then a third gentleman approached the deli counter, and one of the young ladies looks at the gentleman that just walked up, and asks"can I help who's next, and like most renegades/liars, he begins to belt out his order @ her. First ?: why is there "call by number" system in place, if it's never used? Second: Why is Fresh Market not using the system in place, and relying on their customers to be confrontational(basically fight/argue with one another) regarding who's actually next? Is that not the reason for having the "call by number" system in place? Are your employees directed to help Caucasian customers first, regardless of their place in line? I'm just trying to figure out why I was ignored, and apparently invisible(I'm 5'11, and weigh 280lbs) A little hard to miss/not see me standing in front of your glass cased deli counter w/ printed ticket # in hand. I'd like to know the "secret" procedure for ordering@ the deli, so that I'm able to avoid walking 12 blocks to a grocery store that cannot/refuses to follow protocol/ or serve me all together, or furthermore one requirering that I be confrontational w/ other patrons, and/or the manager on duty, regarding the order of/line placement when there is already a procedure(the two deli employees refused to use/follow). I'm reluctant to return, and will not continue to shop at the establishment (spend +$100 per trip) until this matter is resolved. I had to go next door to Aldi, in order to purchase pre-packaged deli meat (subpar to what I'm accustomed to). I hope to resume grocery shopping @ Market Fresh, but will not until this matter is resolved. Please advise: 1)actual deli protocol, and 2) what to do when such protocol is bypassed/ignored(other then myself confronting one of your patrons). Thanks.

Been a customer since they opened. Pretty much everything is good here, at better prices than the chain markets. A lot of Greek and assorted Asian / South Asian / Mexican items, good meat counter (best ground round I've found anywhere), good seafood, great deli counter, excellent produce. I moved from a mile away to 25 minutes away in Andersonville, and I still shop there once a month. I always say that at MarketPlace you can get a month's worth of groceries for 200-some bucks and eat like a king, and like 16 years on that's still true. Plus the Greek pop they play is fun, a change from the usual adult contemporary or Muzak in most places.
