Had this incident been handled professionally by management, there would be no need for this review.
I recently had an uncle pass away and was not able to attend the services. I now live quite a distance away but my family grew up in Haverhill and many still live in the area. Leith’s has been in the area for decades. My wife set up the flower arrangement and specifically stated that we could not attend but wanted to make sure that everything was perfect as we had many family members attending, including my mom, who is the sister in law of the deceased, as well as our son, just to name two. I also had a cousin traveling in from Delaware who asked for a florist that I could recommend and she used Leith’s at my suggestion. Initial contact by phone went smoothly with polite helpful staff. Delivery of what we ordered was on time and the arrangement was nice. The disappointment started when I received a picture of the arrangement with our last name misspelled on the card. I was less than pleased. I contacted Leith’s and asked to speak with the owner or someone in charge. “Krista”, who answered my my call, asked if my inquiry had to deal with a flower delivery, I stated yes and she assured me that she could help. I asked her to look up the order and to confirm my last name, which she did correctly. She was also able to see the card with the incorrect name. She apologized but said that it was too late to correct the issue. She asked what they could do? I suggested compensation to which she said she would need to speak with the owner. What else could I suggest as you can’t unring a bell? The embarrassment had been done. I received a call later in the day, from Krista, with an offer of a reduced price and no delivery charge. Granted, they did not have to do anything. Krista was polite and apologetic but this was not the outcome that I would expect. The owner should have called me, apologized and offered me a full refund or even offered to donate my cost to charity. I can think of many options to atone for this error but without the owner taking the time to give me the courtesy of a return call, these options were not explored. Money was NOT the issue. I knew what the cost of their service was and accepted this when my wife gave them our credit card. I don’t feel that it is unreasonable to think that when someone is in this type of business, that it is unrealistic to think that they should do their job correctly and to take responsibility when they don’t. Obviously, mistakes happen but because of the handling of this issue, I will not be using Leith’s again. We have used Flowers by Steve in the past and will certainly go back in that direction in the future.
