I discovered, after Winston’s had closed for the evening yesterday (Thursday night) that my 91 year old mother had had a bad week, and had therefore failed to arrange flowers for the funeral of one of her lifelong friends, which was to take place on Saturday at 11:00 am. The providing of flowers has been for her both a standard practice, and a critical means of releasing grief at the loss of a loved one, for as long as I have been alive.
Then, to make matters far worse, I discovered that my mom had gotten both the date and time wrong, and the service was in fact today, Friday, at 10:00 am.
I have long considered Winston’s to be the finest florist I was aware of, but when I checked the Concord store’s hours, I could see that they only opened at 9:00 am, and I lost hope that there was anything that could be done to avoid a deeply painful experience for my mom, who has lived a long and generous life, and who I knew would be hurt to the core.
Waking this morning, calling Winston’s toll-free number the minute it was operational, and discovering that they could and would take care of this, and that they truly understood the emotions that were so present, made an enormous difference to me and to a frail but still very emotional woman.
It is a privilege to have an operation of this character and quality in my community. Deepest thanks to all at Winston’s.
