Pros: Was told 30-minute wait, seated in 10. Nice view of the sunset on the back dock/porch area. Open-air seating was well-lit. Wait staff was attentive when around and knew the menu well. Cons: Food was small in portion for $30+ a plate, and the quality was garbage. Seafood was old and tasted rank...very disappointed for this being a SEAFOOD restaurant. Their store also smelled BAD of rotting/dead fish/seafood...nothing fresh in sight. Dead lobster in the “Live lobsters” tank. Bugs flying around out back like crazy, terrible smell in the air later discovered to be dozens of whole dead fish floating around and under the dock (appeared to be dumped from the mostly-rotten stock they were cooking from) Wait staff was stretched thin even though it wasn’t that busy, kitchen staff sent him out with a dirty plate (he went and got a new one immediately for us) Having been a server for years, this tells me that the waiters & waitresses are having to pick up a lot of slack for the poor management and kitchen staff. Conclusion: Do not waste your time or money here, but if you do, tip your server well because they’re probably doing more to keep this place in business than the owner is.

3/16/19. I am not sad to be sharing this review. Hopefully after the construction is finished at Bubba's - Dockside could be dumped in the river. best part of my (last) visit was the pier that I stood on to take a picture of the sunset. 1. She Crab Soup- Tasted like a cup of flour and water mixed together. I asked for a bowl thankfully when my order came out it was a cup. 2. Fresh Soft Shell Crab- Fresh from Florida- ? Once again no taste and was not able to eat the entire crab just the legs. Crabs were not cleaned properly enough. 3.Shrimp tasted like they had been frozen for months taste. I agree with the person stating the cooks need help.

It is a nice place to have dinner. Reasonably priced. 1/2 dozen oysters $10. Very fresh and tasty. 1lb jumbo shrimp served up nice and hot with fries $13. My friend had a fried seafood platter. Pleased with the dinner. Service a little slow but we weren't ignored and the server was pleasant. Cute gift shop too. If you are in the area check it out if just for the oysters and a cocktail!

My friend has been going there forever and she suggested it for a lunch date. She loves the crab cake sandwich and says the coleslaw is the best in Virginia Beach. I ordered salmon and it was excellent. I do not like coleslaw but I loved their coleslaw.

We try and come here whenever we are in the area for excellent fresh seafood. There are always plenty of friendly locals and the wait staff and bartenders are helpful. On this visit we enjoyed the soft shells and puppy drum.

100 % loved this place . No way to say all the good about it ... keypoints . We just moved here and live in the Westerm Branch area of Chesapeake. Yes we have closer places to go . We loved this place . Great family restaurant. Great food . Amazing view of the water . Prices are fair . My family was treated amazingly. We will definitely become regulars at this location while we are stationed here .

While I enjoyed my scallops, there were members of my group who were less than satisfied with their meals: blackened fish that was not “blackened” simply sprinkled with seasoning, coleslaw that was actually a pile of cabbage with a dollop of coleslaw dressing on top, flavorless salmon, and a request for extra crisp fries that were met with pale, limp fries. I guess that was our last visit to Dockside. Too many unhappy customers.

Prices are to high. I know in general seafood has a more premium price, but their fish of the day platter at 13 dollars is overpriced due to only getting a half of a fillet of fish. Now if the meal had a full fillet it would have been good to go, but I could get a fish sandwich from Wendy's or Burger King for 6 bucks and get a bigger piece of fish... For half the price.

When visiting I wasn't sure if we went to the right place at first because you walk through a shop/gift shop before getting to the restaurant so that's different! But we were seated fairly quickly, had a great waitress and although our table outside was a bit wobbly (used napkins to prop it haha) the drinks were well made, and the food was delicious. Fried calamari and the sauce was so good- better here than the other restaurants I tried! I had the vodka salmon pasta and it gives you a ton for portion size so I definitely recommend this one if you're starving or want left overs. The nice thing about sitting outside is the view at sunset (you can't see it entirely but when the sun starts to go down the colors of the sky over the water is gorgeous), also they have a dock portion so you can go on there (sans alcohol) to get pictures and just take it in. Definitely recommend

I have eaten here many times and loved it. This time it was horrible. Burger came out raw and when it was returned it was just thrown on a plate. The Cole slaw was BAD..when we complained we were told everyone has different preferences. I wasn't aware some people like rotten food.

First time of ever going to Dockside Seafood. Had the fried shrimp with red potatoes and seasonal vegetables really fabulous flavors, the shrimp was enormous. Also a very beautiful view of the Lynnhaven Inlet especially during sunset. Our waitress Francis Marie was really awesome. Definitely will plan on going back in the near future.

We were greeted by hostess as soon as we entered restaurant. She got our name and gave us a buzzer to notify us when our table was ready. We got 2 drinks from bar and headed outside to listen to music n sit on deck while we waited. We were seated in about 15-20 minutes. Our table was by the window overlooking the water. We both had a delicious platter of seafood w fish, shrimp, scallops, n crab cake. The food was absolutely amazing. I definitely will be returning to eat again.

Dockside has an excellent serving staff, very nice waterfront views, and delicious food, but falls just short of being a top tier restaurant by not serving free bread/rolls with your and by substituting margarine for real butter...not acceptable at a seafood restaurant. Serving melted margarine with seafood taints the experience. Fix this equals 5 stars.

Immediately after walking in the door, I was greeted by the staff and told to choose a seat out on the deck! It was an incredible view that was well matched with excellent food and service. Me and my family visited this wonderful restaurant offering all kinds of seafood and does have a restaurant at the back. We are origanilly from richmond and came to this store to purchase some steamed crabs. The crabs that we bought are really really fresh and fat! We enjoyed eating it after we went back home. Friends took us to Dockside as we had said that we had never been there. I ordered the broiled scallops with cheese and breadcrumbs. The scallops were cooked to perfection. I wasn't sure about the cheese and breadcrumbs part but I was pleasantly surprised. The cheese was lightly toasted and perfect with the scallops. I totally recommend this restaurant.

This place is nice with a laid back vibe qith waterside views. We brought our 3 dogs, to the outside patio and made time to enjoy a beer. Only drawback here is no unsweetened tea...deal breaker for the wife;)

TERRIBLE establishment which DISCRIMINATES against those not seated in the bar area during happy hour, which forced us to pay nearly DOUBLE PRICE for the meal we had. We heard they had a great happy hour & drove out there for it only to be told we couldn't have it since there were no seats available at the bar. A terrible policy that will ensure we will never return. There are MANY OTHER RESTAURANTS that are BETTER in the area & that DON'T DISCRIMINATE THEIR CUSTOMERS. My wife & I can't help but feel like most of these reviews have to be FAKE as the quality definitely did not make up for it. Shame on you Dockside.

Food and drinks are great. Only problem is if you're poc. My family was sitting here for about 20 minutes without service. The two white families both behind and beside us, that were seated after, had gotten served right after they sat. Staff was kind after we politely pointed this out to the hostess. Wasn't really impressed. Seafood was fresh but not prepared in a quality way that brought out the best flavor. Drinks served in plastic cups/glasses. Plates silverware were so cheep, it took away from the meal. You come here to eat on the water. Expect to pay between $20-30 a plate. There just seems to be no effort On food prep in the kitchen. What ever you do don't get the drink shark attack! The waitress recommended it.... Cup of blue sugar water. Terrible.

They almost get two stars for the outdoor atmosphere, which was admittedly very nice with corn hole and drinks to boot. Perhaps if you went just for this and didn't eat here you could have a 4 to 5 star experience. Alas, we ate. A seafood alfredo with a portion barely enough to feed one is $26 (and only the scallops tasted remotely fresh). To boot, the restaurant may be in the south geographically, but expect no southern hospitality here as they will charge you sub par, burnt bread before the meal. In short, come for the outdoor setting and drinks leave to go elsewhere for food.

Okay, sorry to be truthful but this place needs to send there chefs, sous- chef, or whoever is cooking to culinary school. $124.32 for the 3 people to eat and the only thing that had flavor was the oyster Rockefeller. The vodka salmon pasta tasted like you were drinking a glass of water had no flavor and like it was boiled. The Blackened mahi was well over cooked very dry and also tasted like water. The super crab cake Burger was supposed to be cooked medium rare but came out well over done no pink in the middle I only could do two bites due to the fact it was so dry. My son and his wife and I could only do two bites House of our plates and then had to call it quits. When paying for the tab the lady that we spoke to all she could say is "well that's how we cook here".

The she-crab soup is great! The seafood Alfredo didn't really have a lot of flavor, which was disappointing. Service was wonderful and prices were pretty good. The fresh fish market is great with very reasonable prices.

We eat at Dockside often as we live nearby. It really is a local's hangout. It is such a wonderful, casual atmosphere and the location couldn't be better. Right on the water. I love the calimari, oysters and crab soup. Just delicious. My very favorite is getting a Greek salad with blackened tuna. So light and amazing! I've never had a bad meal there. The staff is wonderful as well. Great service. I couldn't recommend Dockside more for a lunch or dinner out!

Usually one of favorite places to eat. We come here everytime we are on vacation. If you are planning to get the early bird meals that end at 5:30, you have to be in your seat about an hour before it stops. We were seated 15 minutes before we saw our waitress. When we told her this, they still would not let us order from that part of the menu. Food was good. Service was OK. I was upset because this was one of my favorite places to go.

I think this restaurant has the potential to be great. It has awesome location and a great view, but I was very put off by walking through the fresh fish market/ store to get into the restaurant. The fresh fish smell is overwhelming coupled with the old wet smell of the store, it's like walking into an old bait shop. I actually thought I had walked into the wrong place. The place could probably just use a good remodel, where they seperate the restaurant entrance from the store although having the two meshed together is a great concept. Aside from the condition of the restaurant and store, the food was good, but not great in my opinion. I ate there only the once and would be willing to try it again, as I realize sometimes you just pick the wrong thing for your tastes. I got the buffalo shrimp for an appetizer, served with their inhouse made ranch(delicious). The shrimp were big and hearty and buffalo sauce was really good. I then ordered the tuna wrap, the fries were great, but the tuna wrap left something to be desired. The wrap was tuna, spinach, feta and tomatoes. Now, in a wrap I would assume the spinach would be raw and the description did not specify it was cooked. Cooked spinach is watery and bland if not seasoned and it made the wrap soggy and the texture was unappealing, I would go with fresh raw spinach. The tuna however, was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My server was Tracy, she was very friendly and checked on me frequently. She had a good knowledge of the menu, but could not answer questions about available sauces or about the wrap in particular. This seems to be a locals spot and was getting a nice lunch rush as I was leaving.

Shrimp were spot on. Went during "happy hour" at 5:30. Service was fine, an attentive knowledgable server answered questions and suggestions. She crab soup was good. Shrimp special was very good. Shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. The only downside is that "happy hour" prices are only good at the bar, which during this visit seemed fully populated by regular clientele.

The restaurant has a nice location and is a great place for drinks, but the problem always starts with the first Impression. Attempting to speak to the hostess for a table, a women (who I believe was the manager) came out from the kitchen and decided to walk threw me like I was in her way instead of around me. I’m only here to spend money but please go ahead. Our wait was not long so that was a plus, and the bar staff was great. Our server Christi was very sweet and did a good job to guide us to the correct food off the menu. The problem was the overall experience. Once you get a table it takes 15 minutes to get a drink order, so please order when you are half finished. The food I ordered came out cold and it was not very pleasing to look at. Once it came back you could tell it had been heated up in the microwave. I took my food to go because the rest of my party had finished their main course by the time it arrived back at the table. I would only recommend this place for a fun evening of drinks with friends and not for their food.

We have always loved this place but after this experience we are sold for life. We walked in after being on a boat for 11hrs, 3 of those hours stranded waiting for a tow. Our day consisted of us having run out of water, we hadn’t had any food all day and we’re burnt and running on fumes. When we were waiting for our table struggling to keep ourselves together the hostess joked about me yawning. I told her about our day and she immediately got us crackers while we waited for our table. She refilled our waters and put us at the coldest table in the restaurant where our waitress took just as good care of us. The level or care and attention will always bring us back. This place is amazing!!

The crew was nice and attentive. We didn't catch many fish. We didn't stay in one location long enough first of all and the captain never turned of the motor. I won't go back on that charter. On to the next until I find the charter that cares about you catching fish.

Nice atmosphere indoor seating with views of the water. Seafood shop as you go out to pick up fresh for another nights dinner. Service was a little slow and had to run down someone to get more sauce. May have been understaffed that afternoon. Parking is hard to figure out first time but worth the trouble food was good.

Pretty good seafood, prepared about like you would expect. Mixed drinks served in plastic cups, with call liquor in the dining room was a little disappointing. Service was friendly and attentive. Quite busy during the season, be prepared to wait for a table. Side yard is dog-friendly, for well behaved dogs at least. Pictured is a whole fried sea bass, which was excellent.
