The store itself is quite large, but most of that space is empty or taken up by tanks. I only saw one reef ready tank for sale in their huge forest of medium sized tanks. The livestock section was abysmally small though. They seemed to have fewer saltwater tanks than the dreaded Petco, and their "live rock" was mostly dead white rubble at $8 a pound! I'm all for supporting your local fish store, but they didn't really have anything for me to buy. The dry goods can't compete with mail order prices and the selection of livestock is too small to find anything worth getting. It seems even pet stores aren't immune to the brick and mortar collapse...

If you want a good fish store, this is it..literally, this is the only one in the area that is not a petsmart or a petco. They have fish you can't get from the big box stores as well as a ton of equipment you wont find anywhere else but the internet. All of the fish we have purchased from this store have been healthy and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful.

I went in once (about 2 months ago) looking for a couple of clown loaches to add to my tank; I was in there 30 seconds to see a few dead fish and many (more than should have been) with fin rot in the displays. I asked the kid (16-18) how often they change the water in the system, he said "they have to change the water for fish?"..... I walked out....

Bought 9 fish recently from here, 5 red eye tetras and 4 gourami. When picking out the tetras, they gave me the most unhealthy sad ones they had. The gourami all had ich as well, they were in a community tank at the store, so I am sure the other fish in there have ich as well, plus they grossly overcharged us for the fish. We will not be shopping here again.

The location is convenient for me since I can stop in after work. Staff are nice, knowledgeable depending on who is there. Prices are good and competitive. I've bought quite a few fish here. I get the impression that there is very quick fish turnover and the fish can be stressed out as a result. I've had some unfortunate fatalities even with good husbandry at home. They have, or used to have a good variety of freshwater fish...unusual tetras, Oto catfish, pygmy cories, shrimp. I don't know if I've just been going on off days but the variety has gone down significantly. Bottom line, I've been disappointed lately but not enough to stop shopping here entirely. This just isn't my first choice for fish anymore.

The worst staff ever! They will actually overcharge you and then curse at you when you correct them. It's really a shame because the owner Dave is a very nice guy and they do get a good selection of fresh and salt water fish. Being in the customer service industry unfortunately I cannot recommend this shop do to the horrible staff. There are two girls that work there that know nothing about aquatics or aquariums. I wish I had recorded how they spoke and cursed at me which would have made a def YouTube post for worst employees of the year for sure. Watch out for the employees and if you go your better of ask for Dave or Daniel. personally I will never go here again nor recommend anyone!

The store is nice, the people were helpful, but the fish selection was small--literally and figuratively. I was looking for saltwater and there was a few tanks there for saltwater, and the fish they sell are baby size, like 1 inchers. If your looking for something exotic or something that doesn't come into petco, then don't bother with the store.

After some time looking at the reviews I have seen a lot of the bad ones are from years ago. Personally I have found their Rock selection to be amazing, and all their dry goods as well. I do agree with some of the workers aren't the most knolegable. The fish selection could be better, but they have offred more salt water, and freshwater fish lately. Their RODI water is pretty cheap, and the owner in my opinion is very helpful and kind.

I had a part break on my canister filter, Centreville Aquarium is at least 30 minutes away from me so I wanted to make sure they had the part before drove to the store. I called the store and asked if they had the part in stock after verifying the part and the model the part was for, the employee stated that they had the part in stock. As soon as I got off the phone, I drove to the store to get the part. Once I arrived at the store I looked around the store to try to find the part myself as well as grab a few other things I needed. After about 5 minutes, an employee finally asked if there was something he could help with. He looked around for a few minutes tried to give me the wrong part and finally went and got another employee. They both looked around a little more and told me “Yeah, we don’t have that it stock”. I explained that I had called less than an hour ago and was told it was in stock. He just responded with “maybe they misheard the part you were looking for?” I’m assuming these were the only two employees in the store, but they both acted like they had no idea what I was talking about when I said I had called to make sure the part was in stock. I asked if there was a manager I could speak to and the employee just responded with “No... not right now” and then went about his business. I left the rest of the stuff I was going to purchase and will have to go with a more reliable store. I’ll definitely be looking elsewhere for my aquarium supplies.

I was happy with my experience here. It is a bit of a drive for me, but the people at my LFS are not very friendly. It was the opposite here, so worth it for my saltwater needs. The clerk (I should have gotten his name) was very friendly, helpful, etc. They had great specimens in stock at reasonable prices. I will be returning.

Like any fish store buyers should beware and be knowledgeable when walking in. Do your research. Personally I wouldn't get live plants from here unless you already have nuisance snail killers in your tank. Buy them in the tube with a snail free guarantee. They might cost a little more but in the long run are easier than dealing with the snails! Know what a healthy fish looks like and get a small quarantine tank if in doubt. Staff is knowledgeable when they aren't swamped. As for the owner Dave, his attitude is hit and miss. But I do believe he does know his fish and set ups. His employees aren't going to know it all so make sure you at least know the basics before you purchase any fish! I think it's cool they do take in unwanted fish and resell them. Very hard to find a place to take freshwater or saltwater fish. So overall they definitely aren't the worst I have ever seen and not the best. For a little hole in the wall Aquarium shop they do pretty good.

HORRIBLE service. These people are rude and disrespectful. My one hundred pound wife picked up some RO water for me but the container was too heavy for her to carry. They REFUSED to help her to her car with the water. What kind of men won't help a woman carry something? They have the same dry goods as big box stores, just a smaller selection. And their livestock is a joke, little of it, nothing unique, and somewhat overpriced. This place is a waste of time to visit.

I try to give places second chances. I have quite a fee friends in the aquarium hobby and they have all given me several differnt reason not to come here. From personal experience the live stock here is very low quality and over priced. Everything from fresh to salt water fish dont seem to do well past a week. The staff's knowlage it decent or just completely off. With the exception being the owner. He seems to know his stuff.pretty well. However- they have great dry goods, and good sales here and there. I have been told that most of their fish are wild caught and this is why they dont acclimate well to a new tank after arriving at the store. But in the ends it's another aquarium store to visit, and I want to keep going there to hopefully turn this into a much more positive review.

This place was great! I was especially impressed by how much better they treat their Bettas so much better than most pet stores. They seem very healthy and vibrant and have plenty of room to swim. Their customer service was excellent—thank you Caleb and Brian (employees) for answering all my questions and being very patient with me as I hung around the store for way too long. They also have a great variety of affordable live food for fishies and lots of healthy, live plants. They are quite generous with their portions of java moss—which can be quite pricey normally. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Just had THE WORST customer service by Dave, the supposed owner. He was extremely condescending and rude! I was speechless because I couldn't believe how poorly he was talking to me. I came home and went online to find out more information to report him and then found out he was the owner - SHOCKED!!! This business will definitely go downhill. Then, I saw ALL of the negative comments about him. They are all RIGHT ON! Don't shop here. Go to Vienna Aquarium in Leesburg. A little farther out but VERY friendly and professional staff.

Very nice to deal with. Their prices are a little high but I'm a penny pincher. Staff is very knowledgeable and you can very easily get equipment advice. Current fish stock looked very healthy especially compared to what you see in box stores and they have a great selection of cichlids and tetras. I noticed there were a few nuisance snails on the plants in some tanks, I suggest getting an assassin snail it'll handle the problem for you and save you money in the long run in a planted tank. They also have a great selection of well priced tank rock and a good selection of random filter parts.

Came in with my wife about an hour before closing to look at their selection of African Chiclids. A basic selection similar to what "everyone else" carries but they did have a few tanks with some nice Peacocks and other rare Africans.....and by rare I mean to the NOVA area fish stores. Staff was friendly and helpful, asked if I needed help when I walked in but let me browse without over doing the customer service. I ended up purchasing 5 fish, all of which are doing quite well in their new home! The new aquarium selection is generous and the supplies for fish keeping are broad as well. I recommend stopping though if you're close enough.

I bought a pencil urchin at Centreville Aquarium several weeks ago. At the time I purchased it, I asked if it was reef safe (safe for my corals). I was told it was a great algae eater and wouldn't be a problem. Since putting the urchin in my tank, I have lost $50+ dollars worth of corals. Trusting the advice I was given at Centreville Aquarium, I didn't put together that it was the urchin responsible for all of this death until I caught it last night beginning to chomp on my duncan coral. I did some research and found out the pencil urchin in fact is not reef safe and promptly put it in a jar to take back to Centreville Aquarium today to discuss this poor advice. I spoke with the manager on the floor (who may actually have been the same guy that gave me the advice in the first place) and told him I simply wanted to exchange my coral killer for something of relatively equal value. He said he was willing to treat it as a dead return, and offered me a 20% off a fish purchase coupon, but that would mean I would have to spend near $100 just to get back the $15 or so I spent on the urchin. I told him I was even willing to take a $10 emerald crab, but he wouldn't consider it. Not only that, but he said because I didn't have my receipt there was no way to know what the value of the urchin would be. Really? There's no way to look up what you sell pencil urchins for? Right. I understand if I had been told to be wary or advised not to put the urchin in my tank and I did anyway that the coral death would be on me, but in this case, trusting the advice given to me by Centreville Aquarium, the coral death was on them- I wasn't even asking for as much in exchange as I had paid, nor for them to reimburse me for the coral I lost, and I was even going to give them the urchin back to resell if they liked. This ridiculous unwillingness to make good on their mistake and maintain a relationship with a customer is completely unacceptable, so knowing full well there are several other saltwater shops in the area, I walked out and dumped the urchin in the parking lot. If you've bought a pencil urchin at this place soon after this posting appears, know that it spent some time out on the asphalt and that it WILL eat your coral.

The fish prices are good. But their dry goods are very high. You can easily save at least 30% by going to Amazon but if you are purchasing a fish tank this place has a wide selection.

Living in Lake Ridge I have three locally owned aquarium shops to shop from, this one, one in Manassas and one in Springfield. I'll be visiting here equal to the Manassss location for all of my in-store purchases. This place is clean, friendly (very), and has a nice selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, plus many tank accessories and tanks. I deal with a lot of people for my job and need to inform them before they decide which way they want to go to achieve their end goal. I take time and make sure they know what it is they need. This is the level of service David has provided me. I have dealt with all LFS in NOVA and most in 270/495 area of MD. NO ONE person has listened or cared and was as informative. I will be a customer for the long run. I thought I sent this review months back but when I came to give a fresh review it had not been published. I now have more to report about this LFS. David has taken me from an average reef-keeper to above average. My reef is now popping up super colored rock and my corals are growing fast. Do not go in expecting to get in and out as this is a VERY popular spot with those in the know. I sometimes call ahead or ask while in store when the next stock will be ready. The prices are reasonable for what I consider FINE DINING. Yes, at times, the stock is small but the best specimens go quick. If you go in to check out what is there you will be remiss to not pick David's brain about YOUR tank if there is little stock. Again, I will go here for all my tank needs first.

We bought 3 cardinal tetras and a few decorative pieces for our tank from Centreville Aquarium. The next day I noticed the smallest fish swimming close to the top of the water and the next morning all of them were infected with Ick. So far, two of those fish died. I would not buy fish there again.

I have mixed feelings about this aquarium, mostly because I come here often and usually it's a hit or miss. While they have some interesting fish I don't usually see, they also tend to have quite a number of sick fish as well. This means things like Ich and fin rot might be something you'll see often in the fish that you might get here. Definitely should quarantine your fish Asides that, the workers are friendly and will be happy to assist you.

I love this aquarium. I buy all my fish here. The fish are always extremely healthy. The main manager who owns the place, David, is so helpful. He knows so much about fresh and salt water tanks. He always has an interesting variety of fish. Nothing here seems to be too over priced for the quality you're given. It's also a great place to call if you have any questions on aquariums.

Even Petco, the king store of awful fish stock, has a better guarantee. I just spent over $70 on fish. Half were dead just within their 48 hour "guarantee", and the rest dead the next morning. And these fish were placed in established, healthy tanks with other perfectly healthy fish. So it is very obviously NOT the tanks that were the issue. And there is no refund here. You get a "fish credit". What's the point of a fish credit if I REFUSE to buy fish from them ever again?

I shop just about every LFS in the VA/MD/DC area, and stop in here every few months to see if they are offering anything new. Once in a while they get something unusual or interesting but mostly the same common pet store stock. Prices are higher than most other stores but the place is clean and most employees try to be helpful. David is a great sales/conman, he’ll give you just enough info to get yourself into trouble, which he will be happy to sell you a way out of. My biggest problem here is that the fish (fresh and salt) seem consistently sick or unhealthy, yet they sell them anyway. There may be some good choices if you catch them as they just arrive, but then you risk them still being in shock from shipping. For these reasons, I no longer buy any livestock from here as it's too risky, and too expensive for what I would consider "truck stop quality dining".

Yeah... I hate giving places bad reviews but this is the one store (other than pet smart and Wal-Mart's ) that I have the most issues with. I have never had a fish live from here fresh or salt water. The only knowledgeable staff I have talked with is the owner. They are also on the pricier side of aquarium stores. P.S don't buy fish from Wal-Mart or pet smart...

They have a good amount of offerings and regularly get in more shipments. (+3 stars.) That being said, they have dead and diseased fish in their overcrowded tanks. There doesn't appear to be any isolation tanks. (-2 stars). The staff was helpful and answered my questions. They do offer a 48 hour credit if the fish you get dies but you have to bring in the dead fish, which can be a bit of a pain if you are going to go from work and its hot outside making it difficult to leave a dead fish in your car.

Unbelievable poor customer service experience. I bought two fish for $36 (and $170 in equipment) and in less than 24 hours realized they were very sick with Ick. I drove the 40 minutes one way back to the store and presented the sick fish. I was told the 48 hour "Health Guarantee" only applies to dead fish. They acknowledged they were sick, that the tank they came from had other sick fish and that the policy was silly. Realizing I wasn't going to get anywhere at this point I asked for the "Fish credit" because they wouldn't refund or apply a general credit and I went to buy medicine to treat my now infected tank. I didn't have a copy of my receipt so I told them I could produce an picture of it since I scanned it but they refused to take it. So now I am out the two fish, can't get a credit and have to pay money for medicine for the tank. SMH I gave the employees time to think about this and maybe make a call to the owner before I walked out never to return but it was in vain. I have shopped there because I want to have a personal relationship with a business. They are 30-60% more expensive than Amazon or Petsmart. They are FAR more inconvenient for me to shop with but I did so for personal customer service. Well- they totally FAILED. This is why people have switched to shopping online.

I'll end up here once or twice a year but mainly b/c of lack of options in the area. The tanks are generally healthy and okay stock levels of the normal stuff. The staff seems friendly enough, but quick to offer opinions even if they are not knowledgeable on the issue. For example; claiming something in stock on the phone that isn't in the store, incompatible fish recommendations, innocently charging a different price at the register than written on their tanks. All sales are final even on their own poor recommendations. Best to double check their pricing/math when you check out and do your own research before going in. Also, beware of taking home snails in the plants, especially out of their one large tank.

Great LFS (Local Fish Store) great selection of accessories, attachments, rock, substrate, tanks etc. This is what you want your LFS to look like. Prices range from great to fair. Most small items are cheaper then amazon. I do wish they had a larder selection of Live plants. But overall The store is great for fish selection and water change.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Stuff is a bit more expensive than at a chain petstore but the fish are healthier and they have a wider variety. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for natural aquarium/terrarium decorations. Lots of different stones and woods.

Watch out for these jokers. Called in for a Ruby Red Mandarin and they said they would reserve it. Drove 40 mins to pick it up and it was sold an hour earlier. I asked what was going on and all I got was I don't know what to tell you. Great customer service guys! Your 3.5 star rating is plunging even more.

I’ve bought fish from this place a couple of times because I thought maybe it was my tank or my water or I was doing something off. No no no. I have found out that they super over medicate their tanks with massive amounts of chemicals in order to keep the fish looking they way they do in the store. Every single fish I’ve ever bought there has died with in a day. I have a Molly from petsmart that has been in my tank for going on 3 months and he’s well and happy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE. I will never be returning.

Let me start by saying I have been in the customer service industry for 15+ years, and haven't had an experience like this in a long while... Tonight's experience was not the best at all... The ONLY reason I rated 2 stars, was the fact that One Young Man was very friendly(must've been a new employee) and tried his best to be helpful, which he was in fact! *Even offered to take my water to the front for me, nice young man. This was my first time back after MANY years to this particular store, as I just got back into the hobby of Fish/Reef Keeping. I came in to get Saltwater for my fish tank; 4 gallons to be precise, and some coral. We felt rushed (my gf and I) and their variety of livestock was nothing even close to as special as it seemed to be years ago. The corals were all bleaching or dieing(except the 2 mushrooms), the Birdsnest Colony looked completely bleached, but 2-3 Very small sections and still had a Pricetag for it?!?!? We knew we arrived pretty late to the store, 7:45 so we KNEW we had to look fast to begin with(will be a point to this remark later). I could overhear what seemed to be the Manager(older gentlemen) talking about/training it seemed; how they were about to do this, that, take out the trash, etc so they could be out soon. Seemed as tho' he was counting the minutes in his head... While I was looking at the Frozen Fish Foods, I hear the manager yell out from the back; "8PM!!". At that time I had both younger gentlemen with me up front, the helpful/kind one asked if I had any "?" Or needed anything else. I asked a "?', he answered to the best of his ability and the other youngman helped him to answer it for me. The last thing I asked just curiously was how much the Refractometer was; $99.99!!! WOW!!, Compare to anything on Amazon right now... I am amazed this store is even there still!!! I understand how there is overhead/etc that goes along with owning a buisness as such, but this was a Terrible Experience... I will NOT be going back. Please look at going to other stores people. I never felt more rushed at any Local Fish Store EVER!!! You are supposed to make the guests feel Welcomed and Appreciated the Entire Time, not rushed/unwelcomed. This Manager needs to be disciplined, retrained. I would not wish for him to be fired as many rely on their jobs for their family; and wish that upon NOONE!!!!! Instead, I will not be going back to that store Anytime Soon, and will Deffinately tell those around me about my experience this evening... I brought $80 to spend on Coral/Nutrients/Supplements, but left with ONLY 4g of Saltwater... *I have included my receipt so management/owner can review this event.

Purchased 3 beautiful neon tetras and a Discus... and had my water tested as well and had perfect water. Left feeling well taken care of by Johnny. The tetras died within hours. I took them back and they gave me replacements for the tetras. Took them home, acclimated them and then they died within hours.... again. Called the store and spoke with a condescending guy who turned out to be the owner that said they wouldn’t replace them or a issue a refund because of policy. His policy. Careful with these guys because I’m out $35 for 3 tetras and was spoken to as though I knew nothing about how to care for my fish. The fish may be unhealthy, despite claims to the contrary. Be cautious and maybe look for a more customer service oriented business with a better live fish policy.

This is my go to local fish store in Northern Virginia. Staff is extremely knowledgeable. The store is very clean and they have a great selection of fresh/saltwater stock. This store also has a wide variety of supplies/ tank set ups on display. This is a store that I will support fully, to show how good they are I drive 20 miles from Lorton and pass 2 Petsmart’s and a Petco to get here and it’s well worth it.

The fish are in pretty good shape as well as decently priced. I’ve been very pleased with all the fish I’ve purchased from them. This place has everything that an aquarist might need. They have knowledgeable, friendly staff and a good variety of supplies. The fancy goldfish I got there about six months ago is healthy and going strong. It’s really nice to see a pet store whose fish look happy and well taken care of. Fish are healthy. Staff are honest and knowledgeable. Free water testing. Good stock of aquariums and specialty equipment. They're very helpful if you want to start a new tank, or are fixing an older one. Use the big box stores for getting dog food. But if you have an aquarium, never, ever, bypass the local expert.

Our fish tank filter pump suddenly went bad following a routine cleaning and we needed replacement parts or a new filter in a hurry. Husband found the parts on Amazon but they would take more than a week to arrive. I called other local stores and found nothing. Then I called Centreville Aquarium and David was incredibly helpful. Had the part I was looking for and could advise me on a new filter system which I ended up buying in case our attempt to fix the 15 yr old pump doesn't work. They offered price matching (to Amazon) on some things but others they couldn't (makes sense since they pay rent on their brick and mortar!). I will definitely go back to buy fish once we get our system squared away. Completely worth the 30 minute drive. Great service!

Everything we bought from here died. Plants, shrimps, snails, and fishes all died. Our ten gallon tank is thriving, except for anything we bought from this store. We did not realized it at that time, but the snails were in terrible shape. They had holes in their shells and the shells were soft and weak. All the plants we bought from this store died within two weeks. Within the two weeks period, we had added more plants from other sources. The plants from the other sources are flourishing in the ten gallon tank.

Wow, what a disappointment. Owner (Dave) is rude and not very helpful if you have a lot of questions. Seems he gets tired of helping you after a little bit. If you don't want to help people then get out of the business. Shop is small, selection is limited. But the biggest issue is health of fish. Lots of dead fish and if you point it out they say "yea yea" Coral selection if very limited and high priced. Take your business else where, there are plenty of better Marine shops within 10 miles.

I've visited this place a few times since moving to northern VA. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Great diverse selection of fish considering it's not a huge LFS. I've picked up some plants and fish from them, very healthy all around. They've got a good assortment of tanks, scaping products and much more. Very glad this place is around!

Obviously its smaller than your massive big box stores(which arent soley fish), however, this places aquariums are extremely clean and well maintained. I saw other reviews of rude staff, I had an entirely different experience. Unfortunately I didnt get either of the names of the 2 employees working. The price I paid was comparable to other stores, but I dont mind paying more to support small businesses anyway. Ill be back!

Dave is great and this is one of the last decent fish stores in the area! Any fish from any pet store should be put in a holding tank for a few days to make sure everything is OK anyway. Why would anyone just throw new fish into your tank that you have spent so much time and money on? They will order any fish that you're interested in but I would do some price checks on products first.. But they have to make a little money somewhere or else close like most other good fish shops in the area!
